Many professions still use folding rules. I’m an archaeologist and we use them to measure how deep the holes we dig are and how thick different stratigraphic layers of the soil are. They’re actually way more convenient for that than a modern metal measuring tape.

The chest of draws with the weird numbers is most likely a type case cabinet. The numbers are what pt size the letters are, some numbers might also repeat for different fonts. People would have to arrange newspapers letter by letter in order for them to be printed via letterpress. (It's also where we got the term upper case, and lower case. Capital letters were literally just in the next draw (case) up).

Value village is alright but my small local thrift store has everything at a fraction of their prices and the money goes to the local women’s shelter 😎😎 (and its all run by sweet volunteers) If you guys went to thrift in the country a little bit (just anywhere outside of Toronto) I bet you’ll find the best small thrift stores!!

Anna C are you in the GTA? I would just look up thrift stores where you want to go and anyone that’s not a name-brand like goodwill or value village I would try! I’m out in the boonies so I wouldn’t recommend coming out to me, but I’ve found some gems in the Durham region area! I will say they are generally small, so the pickins May be slimmer but the deals are great! I just remembered that I have a local church thrift store near me (it’s also the local food bank) and it’s in an old house. There deal is “fill a bag for $5” so the one time I went i got a pair of good quality boots and a bunch of clothes and books for me nephew for $5! Such a steal!

Each set would have 6-12 different animals in it and they would change up the theme of the set (circus animals, forest animals, pets etc) every free months, so you kept having to buy more tea to get them all. Ok, rule-of-thumb is: If the vase cost MORE than $100, it's pronounced VAUSE. If under $100, it's just a VASE. 💓
And, I would glue bamboo skewers, running vertically, to the lampshade Becky bought.

The "straight pot" is a crock for fermenting, like making sauerkraut. The #4 indicates the size in gallons. $60 is about what that size is new and that one didn't have the lid either.

Becky, keep the lamp shade, it's the perfect shape. I say try a different fabric on it after you turn it on and see how much light comes through. Definitely put something inside the base. By the way, your sweater rocks!

Great lamp! Love it! Please show it in your place. I have a thing for lamps, very often I find them without shades. You're so lucky to find it with a shade, shades can be more expensive than the lamp. Great deal and beautiful shape.

The first thing you picked up was a macrame table. You put glass on top. I made these years ago and they sold like crazy. Haven’t seen one in many years. Love the lamp Becky. Maybe wrap jute around top and bottom edge of shade. That pot and beaded hanger was a steal for $5. Good catch Tashsa. Sorry Kelsey but at least you only bought what you needed. All and all it was a great adventure. 👍💕

One thing I discovered when shopping for lampshades is that they are expensive and I think you would have a hard time finding a shade that matches the shape of the lamp better than the one that you have. But I would change it up either with fabric or I wonder if peel and stick wallpaper would stick to the shade??

You can use wallpaper glued with double sided tape and ribbons to finish the top and bottom.
before using any material try to see what it will look like with the light on, some textures will give you nice patterns, some will block the light...
Also if you are using led it will stay cold so you should be safe.
