    Thank you to Comfort Works for gifting me the Soderhamn Pure Linen Natural slipcover! To learn more please visit comfort-works.com?&
    In one of our previous videos I mentioned that I wasn't happy with the colour of my IKEA couch, and the DIY gods heard me! Comfort Works was so kind as to gift me a new slipcover that makes all of my warm-toned linen dreams come true, not to mention they added in some awesome mid century modern replacement legs which are a great sustainable solution to swapping out an entire couch. Plus, I took on fixing my front window, which I painted white, added curtains to, and DIY'd a vibey live edge natural wood insert to cover the warped wood on the window sill. Which home DIY should I take on next?!

I for one love your videos Becky (and don’t care about the length of your curtains, how you take care of your plants or whether or not you choose to fill the cracks in your wood 😂). • @erinmoore9681
      @erinmoore9681 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes, it’s a detail often used in a contrasting wood species/color to bring attention to it, but also joins the wood together. I’m second guessing now whether the split in Becky’s wood is too wide for it. But maybe at the base of the crack/check to prevent further cracking in combination with an epoxy fill. Imo

    That live edge is GORGEOUS. The curtains up to the ceiling is PERFECTION..... however, girl... they need to go ALL the way to the floor to look lush. IMO. But you do you. Still love that live edge lol

    • @amisra218

      I think this every time! Sooo many of the curtains they do are too short. It's a pretty basic design thing IMO 😬

    • @SuperLiesZ
      @SuperLiesZ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Question: If I were to hang a curtain +rail above a window that is maybe a meter wide in my bedroom. (Just one curtain. Not a 'split' curtain. Or 2 tiny curtains) Would you still hang it to the floor? Under my window is some space and then my radiator and it sticks out +- 20 centimeters.
      Would you then hang the curtain above the radiator or just below the window? Or not at all. Right now I have a roller blind.
      I got this very long red velvet curtain from my grandma's house. It used to hang in the hallway to block the cold from the frontdoor in the winter. But I am wondering what I should do with it. Velvet might look too heavy for in a bedroom..

      What drives me nuts is the fact that she has so much natural tones and stuff, but just straight up covers up that amazing wood trim. Just make the efford, sand that thing down an put a light stain on it, would have looked better imo

    I LOVE the live edge, and that split gives it character, but at the same time I worry it won't handle the wear & tear of being a window ledge very well. I really feel like the gap should be filled with clear resin. I know its less "natural", but it would make the split so much stronger.

    • @kcanded
      @kcanded 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I was thinking of resin, too, but with an iridescence about it. Perhaps a pearly iridescence? So there's not a lot of contrast.

  • @mzachary7326

    I love the sustainability of just replacing the cover instead of the whole couch, but yikes those prices! The covers are more expensive than some of the couches 😭 I love the idea, but I’m hoping I can find a more budget friendly option somewhere else online. Switching out the legs is pure genius though, it makes such a difference!

    • @blackcatz1364
      @blackcatz1364 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have done this by sewing my own, if you have a sewing machine and basic sewing skills its totally do able - I pinned each section inside out straight onto the sofa to fit it and just sewed it up. I made it removable so I could wash it as I have pets. Only cost was the fabric which I got from Ikea for maybe less than $100.

    • @im5143
      @im5143 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @blackcatz1364
      @blackcatz1364 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was rooting for the linen ❤️ linen is a much more sustainable fabric than cotton. It requires much less water, pesticides, processing, etc. I love the results ❤️ so cute

      Let's talk about the best pr move of all time - branding something that is essentially plastic as "vegan leather". I hate the fact that a lot of people who want to be more environmentally conscious get duped by this
      Leather is much better for the environment than "vegan leather"

      @@ettaz Hi,
      I don't know how this imitation lether is produced. So what does the production make so bad for the environment? Is it treated in a special way? Just because it is plasic doesn't make it worth than real lether. The cows have to be "produced" , too, and need a lot of water, pastureland, food ect. and fart methan.

    • @ahumanaperson
      @ahumanaperson 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Sara French sure, but cotton is much more hard wearing, lasts longer, whereas linen is very brittle, wears out and rips easier..

    • @ahumanaperson
      @ahumanaperson 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      chrisssssssi there are many more varieties of faux leather than actual leather, some of the cheapest forms are just poly/cotton weaves with a layer of plastic fused on top with a grain effect. There are thousands of types but all require some kind of plastic to achieve the ‘polished outer’ finish, not all of these plastics are vegan either. So all vegan leathers are faux but not all faux leathers are vegan ygm?
      I still think real leather is more damaging to the planet both environmentally and ethically. Because even real leather isn’t compostable after all the chemicals they have to infuse it with..

    • @ahumanaperson

      I’m assuming she reused the ones she had which probably fit the window lower, but they also probably weren’t floor length because the sofa is already close to the wall and it would look like a tangled mess

      @@ahumanaperson Since she does so much sewing, she could have (and still could) add some fabric to the bottom. I'm not sure the extra length needed to hit the floor would be that much different than what is already there in terms of getting tangled with the couch.
