I bought mine today and I am impressed. I had my ego lawnmower since 2018 from Home Depot (Depot no longer sells the brand) and later got the blower, then the trimmer and a few batteries and battery chargers. This cultivator is strong even on Texas lime stone and removing old dead grass. And investment in my case. Battery goes a long way while using it.
Hi Jason! In this video I used it to get rid of the grass, and dig up the soil underneath, as I am planting many trees for an orchard in this area. But I have indeed used this on grass I wanted to relevel and revitalize. Firstly, I cut the grass to a very low level with a mower, then I will throw a thin layer (2 inches / 5cm) of humus product such as cow manure, which is the best for lawns as it helps to unlock and aerate clay soil (which I have). But you can also use Peat as a common practice too. Then I will use my EGO Cultivator to break in to the top layers. After that I get a rake and level it out, and my Buffalo or (St Augustine) grass sends out runners and seems a lot happier. Just note you want to water it in a lot after you do this, or if you can do it before lots of rain :) PS: I do not recommend using a woody compost such as twigs, bark, and leaves as its not fine enough for the grass to sow into. Thanks for watching Jason :)
@@QualityGardener great info. I have some areas that don't seem to take grass seed very well and this looks like what I need to do. I'm in NY and it's cold now but spring time is coming.
Hi thanks for your comment! For laying down a lot of pipe that covers a lot of distance, I would not recommend the EGO Cultivator as I believe there are better tools on the market for that. I think this is tool is great for cultivating already tilled soil for vegetable gardens, or very small jobs as shown in the video where I used it to dig up a hole for a tree. This is my honest answer after owning this tool for a while now. Thanks for watching! :)
I haven't tried, so I can't say. It can dig around small feeder roots very very easily so I'm assuming it can deal with semi big roots but the big advanced roots I would say no.
@@QualityGardener Thanks. I have a flowerbed that’s near some bushes and it has a ton of roots just below the surface. Nothing like the size of tree roots tho.

I've never seen this tool before, but I think I need one 😁
Do you do this on areas of lawn that grow grass poorly? Do you need to add anything to the soil like humus?

Can it cut through big underground roots?
