I really appreciate you playing this through real time. Thanks!!
I ordered one of these right after watching this video a few days ago. I was looking for something that would allow me to do an AT relearn after replacing my valve body on my 2016 Forester XT and this looked perfect. I haven’t done the job yet but just playing around with the Topdon it is really nice. With the immobilizer functions I also decided to finally attempt upgrading my instrument cluster. Thank you for the review!
Been waiting for you to review this one. Currently plan on purchasing one in the coming months.
Great review!
Thanks again.
Did my reserch, added your review and got one yesterday as I get more involved with my 2024 OW, thank you.
it appears to be positioning itself comparable to the icarsoft CR Max bt, as a multi-vehicle "prosumer" grade tool w/ lifetime updates. have you a comparison between the Topdon and it?
Mr Subaru - After replacing the original “A” suffix power lift gate control module with the new “B” suffix plg control module on my 2017 Outback per TSB 07-179-20 and TSB 07-195-21, the lift gate will not open.
With a button press it will unlatch and after a pause it will close and latch. If I open it up manually and press a button it will close and latch.
I disconnected the battery for couple minutes to reset the control module but, still doesn’t work right.
So, my question to you… is there a control or setting on your tool or the Subaru OEM tool to clear/reset the power lift gate control module after replacement?
Thanks for your expertise!
Update 9/10/23 - I resolved the issue. The lift gate memory button (on the IP left of the steering column) was pushed in (meaning “on”) causing the issue resulting in 3 quick beeps and no lift gate action. After I pressed the switch, turning it “off”, the lift gate operates as it should!
I must have got a bad one (TopDon Art Diag Pro), I could not even reset TPMS on a 2018 f350, it's slow - spends a long time Searching for VIN and more often than not can't find VIN. On the plus side it does do the Data Stream functions and graphing well. Whenever I'm doing a job on a Subaru I come here, your information is great, thank you. Master Mechanic 1988-Present.
I bought the Art Diag Pro and I needed it for a PMI on a Ford ABS module on my personal vehicle I had to replace. I tried Forscan but it wouldn't finish the procedure. The only thing I don't care for the Topdon is the Auto Vin function more times than not will not detect the Vin of the vehicle I'm working on. It will work eventually but it takes like 4 to 5 scans to finally work. Otherwise it works well.
Crazy. Never had an issue with the vin scan before.
I have been wanting to get a Subaru for a long time now, and I recently found a 2005 3.0R VDC v6 model with 110,000miles on it for sale. It seems to have been taken care of and in fairly good shape. I’ve heard the v6 engines in Subaru aren’t great, but if it is a 1 owner vehicle in good shape, should I consider? Any thoughts?
for those times when you have a skip, you know you have one , but the ecu hast decided to throw a code saying Cyl5 misfire , does this have a powerbalance feature or a running missfire count .. my current tool only had this function for 3 or 4 brands ...
MrSubaru1387 Would you please do a vid on diagnosing (2019 wrx) with a check engine and the cruise control lights on or if you already have direct me to it. I looked through all the vids and didn't see one but could have missed it. Thanks man
I just bought the UltraDiag because of your review, I've been wanting to pick up a decent scanner for a while now and the 10% was a decent savings so I jumped up a model with the $70 saved.
You're the man, thanks for the in depth review
Is getting the UltraDiag better then the 900BT? What are the differences?
Also do you need to pay a subscription like someone said in the comments
@@WenzelMachineandTool Hey! The UltraDiag is not not necessarily better but it does offer more options like being able to code your car keys and has a larger data library. As far as needing to pay a subscription I have seen that at all since I purchased it.
Just ordered one
Before I buy....what does it NOT do? Can I get readouts of interior switches like cruise and windows? What features does it have over the ArtiDiag Pro? I could really car less for Blue Tooth.
Hello,
What do you recommend for Ascent? Especially for EPB servicing. Thank you.
Are software updates based on subscriptions?
Just got this scan tool. After researching all the scan tools I feel this was the right scan tool for me. I was looking hard at Launch but all the Launch scan tools that are in the same price range are over seas models and the Launch USA Tech wont give you any support so you have to go thru who ever you bought it thru and Ive read and heard horror storys about that. Havent used it yet but looking forward to. I hope it lives up to all the reviews
Hey, do you know if the Artidiag 900 BT and Lite models work on a 2020 Forester Sport, specifically for the EPB Maintenance Mode? I went to the TopDon website for vehicle support info and the 900 Lite only lists a Subaru Legacy and then some Japanese characters as vehicle options.
From what I can tell from Amazon reviews and their pitiful website, the Lite model does not support many Subarus and definitely not the EPB mode.
Let me know when you have a giveaway. I still can't afford the great deal. I still greatly appreciate that you even got us a discount!
Have you ever done a video on changing the CVT fluid in a WRX/LEVORG, TR690 gearbox I think?
This scantool seems to be running the same software as ThinkTool Pro. Any advantage of topdon over ThinkTool?
Very good video that had a pretty in-depth use and functions of this bi-directional scanner. In your review, besides the cost of the unit, it would be good to advise the viewers if there is an annual subscription fee, and if there is, what is the annual cost for purchase of that subscription.
GREAT review (as always)! Just giving a heads-up that I don't believe that the 10% discount works anymore (at least it didn't for me). Looking for a $500ish scan tool (BIG upgrade from my current BlueDriver OBDii)and this model is in the final round of choices ... Thanks Dude!!
Can you do a review of the snap-on
EEDM596FK multimeter it looks nice but it kinda looks cheesy to me like a cheap Amazon meter
Does it program factory remote start?
Can this Bluetooth connect to the topdon battery tester? I have the battery tester and the app on my phone but would love to have it connected to a scan tool so I can leave my phone in the shop playing music.
Can you permanently disable Auto Start/Stop on new Subarus?!
Nice review, The Launch CRP919EBT can do same things and support FCA newer cars.
I am curious to know the opinion of Mr Subaru on this tool. Thank you for your knowledge and guidance.
My question is: How usable will it be when the free update time is up, and you do not want to spend the money? For a tech who makes good income it's no issue but for the DIY
who does not make a living from the work he does that's where the problem arises. I have been looking and it seems to me that Topdon is the best for the money in my search
for a great budget mid-level scan tool. The 250$ update a year fee is what holds me off. Keep the great content videos coming!
Thanks so much for the reviews. I have a 2015 Outback @ about 110k miles and the CVT fluid has never been changed....was duped by the manual that just said to only INSPECT, not drain/refill. UGHH!! Want to do it myself but have 2 questions:
#1 getting the car level....how anal do I have to be?: I have jack stands I put under the designated pinch weld locations. From the concrete to the rear pinch weld is about 10.5 inches but on the front pinch weld, it's about 9 5/8"; so the pinch weld sites, front to rear are not level. Jackstands are not adjustable in small increments to adjust for the difference in height between the front and rear pinch welds. So, in reality, all 4 jack stands are set at the same height but when I lower the Subie onto them, the rear pinch welds have to lower approx. another inch to hit the jack stands the same time as the front pinch welds. Does this constitute as being 'level' enough to do the CVT fluid drain/refill?
#2: Not sure I can afford the diagnostic/scanner to check the CVT temp. Is it adequate to use an infrared laser thermometer and aim it at the CVT pan to get the temp?
Gracias!!
@MrSubaru1387 will this scan tool work with your BRZ's body control module? Specifically the dealer adjustable settings for things like the chirp volume for door lock, or the ambient light setting for the auto headlights?
I’m not sure on that one. Would have to play with it and see.
@@MrSubaru1387 if you get a chance, I would love to know. I also have a 13' BRZ and would like to know if I can adjust some of those settings.
@@ManicMender I know it’s possible with the Subaru SSMIII. Not sure on the Topdon. Have a buyer lined up for my BRZ tomorrow. I’ll try to check before they come.
@mrsubaru1387 does this tool do the relearning CVT needed after replacing the valve body?
does this still work long after subscription expires? i rarely use a scanner so i dont need to stay up to date on updates. also if i want to purchase updates say 2 years after expiration, do i have to pay extra per year i missed out or just 1 total not per year?
Very nice ❤❤👍
As a fellow subaru mechanic, have you ever come across guide pins to guide the front cover on? One of my co-workers found a set but he can't find them again and i cannot find them anywhere. any ideas?
Cut off the old J-hook from the Subaru updated batteries
I have a 2014 forester, I have permanent codes. Will this clear them and unlock my ecu ? I'm not trying to tow it dealer to get this done.
Which topdon scan tool would you recommend for a professional collision repair technician. I’m not trying to be a diagnostician at a dealer. I just need something to save the day, run scans, test modules, maybe calibrate some things and solve issues to not have to send it to the dealer for every little thing .
I want the phenix elite I think but what would you recommend?
Can I program a key for my 2014 Subaru Outback Limited 3.6 R ?
Will the artidiag 900 lite cover commercial vehicles and construction equipment? Ex. Peterbilt trucks? Case/cat construction equipment?
Are make/model licenses required or can you just plug it into a supported vehicle and get started? Is a subscription needed?
No subscription on this.
As a diy it’s not the cost of the Topdon scanners that gets me, but it’s the cost of the yearly subscriptions to keep on using these tools. Why does Topdon make it so hard to find out these costs? I recently ordered and then returned the Phoenix Plus when I found out the yearly subscription cost is around $600. And now I’ve just spent the last 30mins trying to find the cost for the Phoenix Lite 2 with no luck. Also, on top of this I’ve read so many posts from folks telling us how their scanners were bricked soon after their subscription ran out. BUT I do see the ArtiDig900BT has no subscription. Nice.
I have the 800 BT
No yearly subscriptions and free lifetime updates
It works really well
It doesn’t have bi directional capabilities but you can figure out a lot by using the live stream data
Its a mid level scanner with some perks
For me it’s a great tool and I have solved a number of problems on several cars using this.
I recommend this for anyone who wants a good functional scanner without paying a yearly subscription
My impression, these scan tool companies are counting on making their money on the subscription fees just like major beard shaving companies making money on blades and not the 'razor tool'. That is IMO. Would love to hear others views on this.
I don’t think you need to pay for the subscription unless you want the next year of updates. That’s how it is for the snap ons
For the price they are selling it at you could use it a couple years then get you another one
@@michaelmooney6701 that is a good way of upgrading too just get a new one with new and improved software. And sell the old one
Very nice..
Hi! does this work on hybrid vehicles? or can you recommend an OBD for Ford Fusion hybrids? Thanks
It'd be nice if Subaru could change the algorithm on the sunload sensor so that it wouldn't give a trouble code just because it's in the shade.
Get a Subaru without all the wanna be Tesla tech. Problem solved!
Throw your cell phone light on the sensor. #hacked
@@itadakihokkaido4305 Brilliant! I'll just dust off my time machine.

I need a bidirectional scan tool to close the vent valve solenoid on the evap system so I can do a smoke test on a 2010 Subaru Forester…do you know for sure if it would do that? If not this one...do you know of a reasonably priced one that would? I want a mid range scan tool like this but I want to make sure I hear it from someone that knows it will specifically do it first.
Can’t find an answer to this - does this scanner have ABS functionality? Some of my mechanic friends have tool truck scanners but only one of them has one that can read all of the abs codes?
Bought this TOPCON in order to be able to service the CVT properly among other things. I have three Outback’s. My 2015 has about 125000 mi. and drops about 100 rpm at a stop light and seems a little rough. Never changed the CVT fluid since it was supposed to be life time. Changed the CVT fluid thinking that might be the problem. It was certainly off color similar to your other videos. Changed it twice as you recommended in one of your videos. More than a little annoying there is no CVT service interval. Apparently the CVT fluid wasn’t the problem, any suggestions? Do you know what the proper operating temperature is for the CVT. This car runs 95% of its life in non stop highway driving about 26 miles per trip.
Did you find a solution to the rpm drop?
@@devilslide01 I changed the plugs but there was nothing wrong with them. Probably were changed by the dealer. Pretty sure cleaning the throttle body did the trick.
Sounds like a possible issue with the torque converter. Earlier models had this issue but not sure if it was corrected by 2015. Check out his videos, there's one or two that cover the subject
Can you program keys with it if you have the t dart with it?
Can the top don AD800BT do adaptive relearn on a ford focus transmission after getting a new programmed TCM
Does this allow you to program replacement key fobs for push button start models?
I haven’t tested it, but I believe so. You can check the Topdon application guide on their website to be sure.
I want one, but i wonder when they will integrate AI into these toola and make all the previous ones feel obsolete. It always bums me out to see a compiter or camera or something that cost a fortune sitting in the corner of the basement while wearing a two dollar pair of socks that lasted longer.
just scored one for 300 bucks on lightning deal for one of these on amazon
So many vehicles require temperature for changing/filling transmission fluid, will this display trans. temp.?
Yes
Will this put a Subaru with electric parking brake into brake maintenance mode?
I’m replacing an ecu on a 2011 outback, will this tool do programming?
Can the TopDon ArtiDiag900BT clear and recalibrate AT module after valve body replacement?
you mentioned that it can program key fob?
I need an affordable reprogramming unit for transmission control module
Or Powertrain control module
Do you think this scanner shows injector balance rates on diesel engines like my LBZ Duramax?
Mr.Subaru what was that model on the Topdon scan tool the one you just showed.
Artidiag900BT
Thank you brother
Does this tool allow you to check o2 sensor voltage? I bought one and can’t find that function.
Can this scan tool allow you to program new ECU?
SOLD OUT😮💨
how it compare to Xtool D7, D8 or Autel MK808BT? it all in the same price range.
Haven’t used an XTool before. No experience with the Autel 808. Have used the OTOFIX D1 Pro which is similar to an Autel 906? I believe.
That’s Great , but what do you do to clear the faults , do you repair the fault or replace part , could you explain what you do when you find the fault , cheers
Can you tell me if this works for a 2000 jaguar stype 4.0
Will this model lock and unlock the doors on a 2016 Subaru Outback?
Meaning bidirectional control through the body control module?
Yes
@@MrSubaru1387
Does this have traction control monitoring capabilities?
Has the Subaru10 code expired? I can’t seem to get it accepted as a valid discount code now.
will this scan tool work on older vehicles, say late 90's fords , Chevy's...etc
I would imagine anything OBD2 ('96-present).
To hell with those subscription costs for DIY purposes.
Can you do eBreak retraction
Please answer this question. I know you don't respond to many comments. At 6.36 in the video you commented that it was getting really warm. The batt level was at 90%. I've never used a scan tool, but is it normal for a tablet "like" scan tool to get really warm at essentially full voltage and only a few minutes of use? This kinda concerns me.Thanks!
I'm obviously not the poster of this video, but I think he was referring to the temperature in the car. IDK where he is geographically, but he posted this two months ago, and in Missouri it was still pretty warm in September.
What's that thing cover on the ez30d 2001-2004
Haven’t pulled it up to the old LL Bean yet. I’ll try it out and see.
I would truly appreciate it if you did. It would be tremendously helpful to know.
Any luck seeing what this covers on the old LL bean
does this actually work better than using dash command and a cheap 20 dollar obd2 to wifi/bluetooth adapter?
100% works better.
as cars become more advanced you need a map scan tools are needed but not all created equal as i have a boneyard of Awefails due to the warranty and the durability of tools,, when you restore an autel you lose information even though process states return tool to factory , the process is simply a guaranteed subscription grab any issues they push sub even though warranty is rejected??? Remember buying tools other than Autels site were said to be counterfeit therefore easy warranty denial!
Sold out! Oh well.
I have a 2023 Subaru Crosstrek and want to know how often I should change the transmission fluid.

Whats the difference between the 800 and 900
Looks pretty good. Seems good value, but still beyond my budget.
the artidiag pro is $499 before discount and they do have less expensive ones as well. I personally have a bluedriver scanner. can't command things on but can do everything else.
@@dreadswizzard9142 I'll check one out. Thanks.
Hard to believe you have to spend either 500 or 4500. There MUST be another option in between that suits the technican who works for a shop but wants to add to his home shop
There is.
First!
This question is not related to this video in any way but does anyone know the part number for a waterpump for an N.A. automatic ej20?
I'd this sponsored review?
They sent me the tool to check out and review, but they aren’t paying me for the review nor the video.
this is an ad! 600$? yeah i know
Is there any Western (not Chinese) company that competes in price and quality with these Chinese companies? 🤨
love how he thinks this is affordable.....
It's affordable if you're making money with it. I'm looking for a bidirectional in the $100-200, because I'm not making $$$.
A snapon scanner runs 12k. So yeah it is compared to that
The way i see it, is affordable because is a once investment to always fix your car, that saves you a lot of money that usually the dealer will charge you, but you have to be mechanically orienteted and be ready to do the job yourself, I think Mr Subaru gives a great Information to fix sooo many issues in you car all you need to know is your type of motor and alway research the parts and keep you motor tuned 100%
How much!!?????

I’d really like to see the extent of the bidirectional controls it has as I often for example would manually toggle a fuel pump on and off or blend doors inside the vehicle for hvac and obviously it’ll vary with the vehicle you’re working on at the time but with the videos I’ve watched of this scanner I haven’t seen much detail on the options this tool has for that purpose if you could touch more on that subject it’d be helpful @mrsubaru1387
Excellent video! I didn't notice if it could do a recording session where I drive the car to replicate whatever issue I have going on and the tool to record everything it can. Since I am by myself, I can't keep my eyes on the scan tool and drive. If it can, I am going to buy one.
Went ahead and picked one up. Discount code was great, saved nearly $60 and I think shipping was free. There were tons of stored codes from lord knows how long in there. I went ahead and cleared everything. Then using another of your fine videos, did the throttle relearn procedure. Car is now running better than it did before. I am getting a persistent C0071, Steering Angle Sensor malfunction. Happen to have a video on that?
Does this (or another) show live Misfire data on each cylinder?
Yes, they'll show all that info and more as long as the vehicle is storing that information.
Can it program tpms sensors?
