How To Paint Wheels & Rims

This is a quick tutorial on how to completly refinish your factory wheels/rims. In this video I am working on factory GM Rally Wheels from a 1984 GMC Jimmy.
You will need
-400 Grit Sandpaper
-Rust Converter Primer
-Base Coat Made for Wheels (VHT ESP186007 Chevy Rally Silver)
-Clear Coat Made for Wheels

love them. put a set from an 84 suburban on my 94 Caprice Classic LS. Got rid of it and now have a 73 C10 and wishing I had kept them.

They are really cool. Most scrap yards have them still.

Make sure you wipe the wheels down with wax and grease remover, it'll prevent the solvent pop that you see all in the primer.

I love the stock rally wheels. I'm buying a set for my winter wheels and painting them black with the chrome caps and rings and I'm thinking of adding a set of 6 lug ones on my 2001 silverado

What color is the base paint, I just sandblasted rims off my k10 and I like the look of this paint

I used a sand-able primer for the primer coat and then used VHT ESP186007 Chevy Rally Silver Wheel Paint for the rims. Then came back through with a clear coat.

How did you polish out the 4x4 logo to look that new again and get the colors di bright

I just lucked out that they didnt have much fading on them. Used mothers mag polish on them too. You can find new ones though from JC Whitney and other random places online.

How did you glue the 4x4 logo back onto the cap?

Super glue. Held tight all the way through a Montana summer and Winter.

Good video. Guna Paint mine soon. Why do we bother painting the whole wheel anyways if its all covered by the nice beauty rings. How many cans of paint and clear did you use for all 4 wheels?

I just like to go all out even if stuff is hidden. I was able to do all 4 with two cans of paint and one of clear.

Those are the original ones believe it or not. You can buy the whole new center cap with sticker though from classicmuscle.com. They are only $20 each. Look up SKU 160017R
