How about a 12ft pole?😅
I'm shocked!
The 4AT old geared auto tranny from Subaru is pretty bulletproof. As well as being a true sequential when you’re in shift mode. Just horrible gas mileage😂🤷🏻♂️
My guy Fredy
Is better for him to change for a crosstrek, instead of modify this wrx. More space with better access, longer flat top (more roof rack capacity) bigger wheel and ground clearance. If he really want wrx power just swap the kit engine.
Thank you Scotty.

Hmm. I have a 2014 Outback with the 3.6 six cylinder engine and the 5 speed automatic. So far it has only lasted 10 years and 209,000 miles. The most serious repair has been a broken horn button. Apparently, the best mistake I ever made.
Yup my dad has a 2018 outback r3.6 500,000 km on it no major issues, it’s holding up amazingly
Change that CVT fluid if you havent already. Also the diff fluids.
I own a 2015 legacy 3.6 six with over 128,000 so far is running smooth as silk .
I'm a Subaru tech. Been a tech for over 2 years. I see 3.6L Subaru's all the time. And never seen them with engine problems. They are the most reliable engines Subaru made in my opinion. I've seen plenty of them with 230-260k on the clock and still running strong. Many times they are untouched for 200k miles. With that said, they are the worst to work on. No working room whatsoever, the engine is crammed in there.
We/ I had a Subaru Legacy 1992 Got stolen in May 2023; otherwise would have been continuing to Cruise around the City.
Fact: The Original Timing-Belt together with Water Pump and Thermostat replaced in 2019. The original Rims and Tires Bridgestone since 1992; rotate with Regular Rims and Tires All Season Treads.
I changed oil 3 times a year or when I came back from the Holiday Trips. Total Cost of Repairs including 2 CV-Axes and 2 Batteries (Original Made in J 🔋 🔋 last 15 years, they said I could have them refurbished at Subaru but I did not. The Total Repair Bills were $3k. Could not ask for more; Of course I have other Vehicles to drive when Subaru driven by Family Members.
Since it was Traditional Trans Fluid, I had my friend flushed changed in 2005. And 2nd sets of Spark-plug Wires and Spark-plugs. And every Winter I flushed the Radiator ... Took a few Minute to Drain the Radiator and refill.
Cheers,
My 08 Wrx made it to 200k until I decided to replace the motor due to a suspected failed head gasket or warped head. Turned out to be nothing and I started modding around 130k then bigger turbo at 150k and never skipped a beat. Only issue I’ve had in my 7 years with it was a failed alternator best car I will ever own
Headgaskets should be changed out every 100-160K miles, anyway. There's a full breakdown of maintenance required at specific mileages online, which is really helpful in keeping your Subaru running good long term.
thinking about buying a 09 forester
Replacing an engine due a head gasket is beyond moronic
When your engine is over 200k miles with over 300whp no, no it’s not moronic. Actually it’s the smartest thing todo if I have to already rip the motor out. I take it on long trips sometimes so It’s called preventive maintenance. Sorry your pocket isn’t as deep as mine I guess. @@griprep3506
Do you know where I can find something like this for a 22 wrx?@@hhaste
I have a 2018 that I love. I’m 66 and was a big muscle car fan back in the day. The WRX is faster 0-60 than a ‘70 Hemi Cuda and it corners like a go cart. I’ve got 55,000 miles with zero problems. I’m thinking the extended warranty was a waste of money. It’s the most fun car I’ve ever owned.
Llivving the dream. I'd still rather have a 70 as HEMI Cuda, I'd just go low n slow with it.
That warranty won't be a waste of the turbo goes. That's about the only thing you need to worry about
Got my 23 wrx last week really enjoying it so far especially after driving a chevy cruze the last 12 years
They are very fun to drive, especially once you do a couple small mods. Just don't do any performance mods that affect air or fuel without doing a proper dyno tune. Drop in panel air filter & cat back exhaust are fine without a tune, however. Front & rear sway bars & end links do a ton for keeping the car flat in turns and improving handling feel. Front & rear shifter bushings are also a must, in my opinion. Short shifter is up to you. A ton of people do the front grille chassis support, I can't think of the name of it right now but those look pretty cool.
@hhaste yeah I ordered alot of parts but was only going to put on my exhaust when it comes in til I'm ready to get it protune I did buy a pitch stop sti Trans mount an rear bushing already probably within the week
My 2012 has an e-tune and a catless exhaust, and still is on the stock motor and turbo at 165k miles. still going strong. I can tell that the previous owners treated it right and didn't rag on it. The new WRX's do interest me, though I'm not convinced all the new tech in their cars, or any car for that matter, is something that I would want. Seems like it just increases complexity (and cost) and decreases reliability.
My 93 Impreza L wagon ran till about 330k with regular maintenance until I decided to get a new car.I got it my junior year of high school and drove it until I graduated college. I would still trust that car more than any other car I’ve ever driven.
I just bought a 2015 WRX, it's stock and will remain stock besides some wheels. They are incredibly fun and fairly practical vehicles. This is my fourth Subaru and I have experienced ZERO major problems so far.
Yeah you just can’t mod it at all unfortunately
@@ci6516 I think you can still mod them, but you need to use the correct parts and correct tune or you're just asking for trouble. But yes, the safe bet for sure is just leaving the motor stock.
@@ci6516 I have a 2016 WRX and am at stage 2 which is the full 3 inch exhaust from the turbo back, cold air intake and a MAPerformance tune with Cobb accessport.
Subarus are very underrated csrs. For the price, you cant really complain. If you can take care of them yourself, you can do just about anything with these cars, and they are relatively easy to work on (minus the spark plugs).
You need special Tools to Take out Spark-plugs for these Subaru and some tricks including one has to remove some parts around and re-install the Parts that was what I did on my Subaru Legacy 1992 Model = Still Running until we got Stolen in May 2023 -- two months ago.
@@Studio89Graphic you don't need special tools for the plugs. i do spark plugs every year om my 03 outback with basic hand tools

@@Studio89Graphic wasn't meant as a dig, some people think subaru's are hard to work on........
since when is a boxer engine easy to work on
Thank you Scotty. I wasn't a believer in turbos and fuel efficiency but I was blown away with a Jetta I rented about 2 weeks ago. I traveled from palm beach to Miami for 4 days on one tank. I didn't drive like grandma, but I was doing 75 on average. Now I'm looking for a similar setup, but not from VW. This Subaru is definitely up there.
I got an 07 Outback a couple of years back. Never drove a Subaru (had over a dozen cars before) never wanted a Subaru…actually hated it driving it home cuz I just wrote off an Escape and it felt like I was losing out.
Best mistake I made…don’t wanna let this thing go. I hope it never gets written off! I’ll just keep fixing it till I’m dead at this point!😂
I have one of these, awesome car super fun to drive. Regular maintenance and haven't had a problem with it yet 85k miles on it.
I had Subaru Legacy with 6 cylinders 3.6 engine. Zero issues with the engine. Although I sold it before reaching 130k miles
Those boxer engines are very reliable
If it were so good why sell it?
@@omarhudson9059 1) rust (I live in Canada - lots of snow and salt),
2) high gas prices, and high fuel consumption with this big engine,
3) low tech - it's 12 years old, so no screen, no android auto / car play, no bluetooth, no back-up camera, no adaptive cruise control, etc.
Engine was still fine and probably good for many more miles.
Replaced it with Tesla
@@mijas-rus2715 you still have the Tesla?
Once again Scotty you don’t disappoint. Thanks for the honesty about Subaru. Work at the plant and looking forward to your review on the new crosstrek wilderness. And maybe one day take a tour of the plant .. Thanks and God bless.
I want that Crosstrek wilderness.
Tell CEO to no be a f***tt.
I have a 2021 but I’ll be considering trading up to the new ones. I didn’t like the looks at first but it’s been growing on me. They’re insanely fun cars, easy to work on. They’re not winning any drag races but there’s nothing else I’d rather take on a winding uneven back road for a spirited drive.
I have a VB 2023 manual, I for sure see what your saying but the newer ones look so much better in real life. Not the fastest in the world but not a lot is more funner than taking it on windy back roads though.
@@reaperskeeper8259 Apparently the new suspension is really good too. I need to test drive one. I’m waiting till 2024 with the rumored performance package.
I actually really like the look of the new generation. Hopefully I'll be able to pick one up in 5-10 years time.
@@CrittekIve driven almost all generations of wrx and the VB is the best imo. Most comfortable. Most refined. Best stock tune. Car is a blast. Bought one last year after being an original hater.
@@8JFJK8 Ya it really does seem to be the best all around version. I was thinking of just swapping the engine into my VA but the price doesn’t make sense when I can just get the new model.
I sold my 2010 stage 2 WRX after 10 years, and 172k miles. There were some things like a crank position sensor, leaky steering racks, leaky valve cover gaskets, thermostats and water pumps were replaced, but other than that, it ran like a clock. It did consume a little oil at the end, but it was a nice powerful and fun car. Now I just drive an naturally aspirated MIata.
claim to be good cars then people switch lol makes no sense
@@Lemingtona-x5gtruth is they are not good cars but fanboys will be fanboys. In the modern era Awd car options are unlimited. Back in the day though when AWD wasn’t so common I could see Subaru maybe being an attractive option vs driving a pick up an poor fuel economy.

Still driving a 2004 5spd non-turbo daily at about 300K. Loving it :)
When I had a 2005 WRX, it had so much turbo lag that mods were a must (at least a chip tune and new exhaust). I replaced it with a 2015, and the newer FA engine is so much better, I haven't made a single mod to the whole car. It's probably one of the best small cars left on the market.
I just wish the 2015 had a mechanical linkage for the shifter, like in my old 2005. The cable linkage feels cheap and is a letdown.
Turbo lag can be fixed even better with other mods than the ones you mentioned. I'm sure you can improve the feel of your shifter a *ton* with aftermarket front & rear bushings etc.
whiteline positive shift kit, perrin brass shifter bushing, subaru oem group N transmission mount, subaru oem group N pitch stop mount, cobb short shift plate (its the only one that fits the oem dust shield), & perrin shift stop.
i added these to my wrx and it feels a million times better. it runs about $400 total for all those parts new. short shift plate is the most annoying to install.
I will be buying myself a wrx for my next car. I know someone who has a 2018 wrx, and absolutely loves it. As long as you take care of them, theyll last you a long time. And it has AWD, which is perfect since I live somewhere where it snows(will put snow tires on it). Big fan of Subaru, cant wait to buy one.
I recently purchased a brand new 2023 WRX. Absolutely love it!
They are very fun to drive, especially once you do a couple small mods. Just don't do any performance mods that affect air or fuel without doing a proper dyno tune. Front & rear shifter bushings are also a must, in my opinion. Short shifter is up to you.
@hhaste Yeah, I'll only be doing tasteful mods. I won't/dont want to do anything that might hurt the cars' overall performance. Might put a cold air intake in if it's needed, especially once the car starts pushing more horsepower(once other mods are installed).
Just sold my 2016 WRX. Made 377awhp on the dyno on and ethanol flex fuel tune. I loved the car. I may regret getting rid of it as it was the most fun practical daily driven car. It had 132k miles on it when I sold it a few weeks ago. Bought it in June 2017 with 10k miles on it. 6 years of daily driving fun. You absolutely need to maintain these cars for them to last but treat them right and they'll treat you right. Two sets of wheels for winter and summer tires, and it ripped up the roads no matter what condition. 44mpg? Even when the car was stock I couldn't get over 30 granny driving the thing.
What do you think about the new 2023 Subaru wrx? You should make a video I wanna hear your thoughts about it…
I have always loved Subarus.
Especially the modern era of WRX. The modern engine is great for daily use. Plus as Scotty said, "They are plenty zippy."
Same here. My first one was an 88 Touring Wagon. There have been 7 Subarus in my life so far, have a 2023 Outback and thinking about my next Subaru, which may be the WRX.
@@michaelking42 The WRX is fun 🤩.
Is that your favorite of the Subaru line up?

@@WarriorsPhoto Thank you. I am looking for a commuting car, I do around 30,000 miles per year and travel to a bunch of different states. Icy roads in winter mean Subaru AWD for me...just 'need' something economical on the highway....and hey if it's got a turbo, all the better.
Thanks for the great video, Scotty. I recently bought a 2018 Impreza Premium hatch with 42000Kms on the clock. Cost AUD24K & I'm very happy with it.
I remember now why I loved Scottys channel years back. Feels good to be back...love this guy.
I have a 2017 wrx with 100k miles. The best advice I got that I still follow is do more regular oil changes, and the ebgine will last longer. Its cleaned better, lubricstes better. I do some spirited driving though most of the time I just go a ressonable speed for a long while and enjoy the ride. Only problem here are the valve cover gaskets are starting to leak, and Ill fix them in the next week or so
yes regular oils changes drastically increase the life of the car in the long run keep it up👍

@@Kai_Keller02 yeah then again most kids won't do it cause you can get 6 to 8k out of the engine oil forgetting that's like highway miles and not driving the piss out of the engine so less heat and stress makes the oil last longer
how many oil changes should be performed per year?
I have a 2016 which I bought brand new.
The factory tune on these are SO bad I thought something was wrong with it when I first bought it.
Threw a COBB access port on it with a base map and it cleans up how it drives substantially.
I’ve heard this from people. At first they think that the stock tune isn’t that bad and that they can live with it, but no. It’s bad.
Then a tune comes in not long after. I think it’s with almost every WRX owner.
Recently bought a 97 WRX STI gc8 here in Japan... Best decision of my life!!
I would absolutely love to have one of those, I may try to find a clean condition one and import it. I've had my 06 STi for 15 years but those GC8's look incredible.. and they're lighter.
I bought my 2017 wrx new in 2016 with 66 km on it. It has been modified to stage 2+ since 100,000 km and currently has 360,000 km on it. Has had very few issues other than your standard wear and tear (brakes, tires, etc). Throw out bearing went at 280,000 km. Car has not been babied but also not abused. Most of my driving has been from a 100km highway commute to work. Has been a very reliable little car.
Over 100,000 miles on my 16. FBO running an E60 tube since the first week. Drive it “spiritedly” every single day.
Got a 2019 series Gray WRX - love it. Recaro seats, and just enough tech to make me feel like I got an upgrade from my 2007 Cobalt SS. Fantastic all year round car in the North. 65K and counting, no issues to speak of.
Same ! Just added an AOS
To speak of..lol. they're nice, but at 65k you shouldn't have had any yet
Don’t tune it and make sure you change the oil 5k miles or less .. purchased a 2015 wrx brand new .. joined one of them Subaru clubs .. can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people with Cobb tunes and downpipes destroy there engine.. always started with there engine making a clicking noise then proceeded to get worse .. @@richsweeney1115 Should, but doesn't mean much these days! The fact I got to 60k with no issues gives me hope I'll make it to 200,000. Or Trade it off for that (also amazingly reliable) Audi RS3. HA!
@@stevenw3060 Definitely. It's staying stock. Once the extended subaru warranty is close to expiring I'll trade it off for another 2 year old car.
I've had several Subarus. My 05 STi was good mechanically and even had a factory clutch still at 221k. No turbo issues or major repairs..not even wheel bearings. My 2016 is ok. The tune could be better, but the gas milage is really good. I average 26 mpg city, 37 mpg at 55 mph and maybe 33 mpg on the highway at 70 mph.
I traded in my 2016 wrx with 139k tuned for over 65k of that with 300whp and traded it back in all stock and it still ran like new never any issues ever, now I have the 2022 wrx whole new platform.
I have a 2009 Subaru Legacy 216k miles, only major issue was had to replace catalytic convertor at 175k.. over 10+ years of reliability can't complain there and it's an automatic.
It feels Weird that Scotty is talking about this car. I just got a 19 WRX very recently and I must say I am loving it right now!
If you're new to the Subaru world, just don't do any performance mods that affect air or fuel without doing a proper dyno tune. Drop in panel air filter & cat back exhaust are fine without a tune, however.
10 year owner of a Forester STI Lichfield 330 id did change the head gaskets for Cosworth double layer olds and never had a problem, If tuned properly by professionals (big up Litchfield) and oil changed every 4k they seem to be very reliable even running over stock slightly like 330hp mine has always ran since 1000k on the clock now at 125,000.
2002 Subaru outback H6 with 280k on her. Still running great! Needs a new suspension soon and cant wait. Great power, reliable decent mileage…i will be buying New/used H6 motors to swap in once this one is gone :) been told she has the best undercarriage from mechanics for what theyve seen from these same models/years
Subaru has removed the manual transmission option for all but TWO models, the WRX/STi and the BRZ. Subaru had a press release stating that 9% of vehicle sales were manual transmission cars. Most manufacturers have gone the same route. The flip side is that nee automatic transmissions are CVTs and almost no nee vehicles come with a conventional gear box.
I hate being that guy but 29k is not loaded. The Limited was like 38k with not even every option. I still massively respect your content! Keep it up!
I've had nothing but good luck with my 02 since 2007
Just replaced head gaskets on my ‘04 WRX but I didn’t maintain it well. The head gasket issues is overblown and primarily affected the ej25 engines. The gaskets were just not well made.
BUT DEFINITELY DO THE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. Anyone with a WRX…CHECK YOUR OIL REGULARLY AND DO YOUR MAINTENANCE and they will last you a loooooong time
Chiming in to say the 6cyl boxers are great engines. I’ve owned two. My 3.0 h6 I sold with something like 225,500mi on it and it was running like a top. Never had any issues other than standard maintenance on an engine with that many miles. I currently have a 3.6 h6 with 236,000mi that shows no signs of slowing down. My shop says I should be able to take it to 300k no problem. I guess we’ll see; but in my experience with ‘Roos it’s always been the 4cyls that have the issues.

I've got a WRX that is the same generation as this, and based on your description, pretty much that same equipment. They come from the factory with Summer only tires. I got through several Winters in Maryland (state just South of PA) fine on those. Then again, I love driving in snow and have always driven manual transmissions, so I may have had some advantages. That said, when those tires wore down I replaced them with a set of all seasons which handle snow a lot better. I know dedicated snow tires would be even better, but I think that would be overkill for this AWD vehicle in Maryland conditions. PS. I've done the math, and the Subaru road computer over-estimates mpg by about 2. So when the car says you are getting 28mpg, you are really only getting 26.
Coming from an Infiniti G37X I was blessed to choose the WRX. I can drive it like i'm baby driver and I still get 26mpg city. My G37X I'd be lucky to get 20 driving like a grandma and spirited driving got me 12-14mpg. Ik V8's with better fuel economy lmao. Turbos are the move and same exact 0-60 ❤
Small flat bed trailer(< $1000). Put everything on it and tow it to campsite. Take off your ATV, motorbike, equipment, water tank, then set up 6'x6' tent on the trailer, with air mattresses. good to go!
I have a WRX and I haven't had a gasket problem yet. Gets me from A to B with no problems at all.
Another reason to maintain your car with manual transmission is to be away from tricky mechanics. And save on gas, too.
Bruh I end up wasting more gas always shifting late. If it's got range left in the power band might as well finish it nomsayin.
I've had a few Subarus, currently a Levorg [WRX Wagon thing] in Japan with a CVT that actually works okay.
Of course, Scotty, you've made this video primarily for the North American Market. But this is the World Wide Web, and there's plenty more Subarus lurking out there. AWD and otherwise...
Couple of points: If you drive 'conservatively', the turbo is NOT 'ramming more air into the engine' off boost. C'mon, Stoichiometry anyone?
And, 'Boxer engines are never insanely high horsepower'.... I've actually owned more Porsches than Subarus. Not all turbocharged and I'll respectfully disagree with your statement. GT3???
Otherwise, entertaining.
I was always scared to get one because all the head gasket stories , but once I seen Scotty give it the pass then I feel safer buying one
Great Content Scotty... my 2014 Outback with 192k still going strong...!
He was a customer of mine at Autozone on Montrose in Houston, TX 10+ years ago....guy has so much knowledge
VA (chassis) WRXs came with “summer” sport tires, not all seasons or “regular” tires, which is why the first thing I did when I bought mine was buy a spare set of wheels with Blizzaks. I have all seasons that came on my STI and they were just fine in the snow. Just don’t drive in the snow on the stock summers unless you want to die.
In the nordic countries, snow tires are mandatory during the winter. The concept of only putting snow-tires on the driving axle if you have two-wheel drive is new to me

Turbochargers recover some of the energy from the heat / pressure that would normally just be lost out the tailpipe. And, yes, if you have a lead foot you can trade fuel for scoot.
That cleared some misconceptions I had about Subarus, thanx Scotty, and I love Manuel transmissions!! I used to drive semi's, so I know how to shift the gears!! Lol!!
I can drive semis no problem but can’t operate a manual on a car to save my life. I attribute it to not being able to float gears in a gas cars with stiff clutches.
I have been shocked too many times by Scotty. Here’s another one. More shocks to come and I am not ready.
What was so shocking ?
Got a 2012 Legacy 3.6 R and just replaced the torque converter. Only has 65k miles and Subaru said it's kind of unusual to have that problem. Other than that no issues here, drives great and has just enough tech to keep it "human". Still has traditional auto transmission not CVT! Kind of sucks how too much technology actually ruins cars and driving experience.
New would be the 2024 Impreza RS, which I may be getting. Not an WRX, but has everything I want with a 182 HP N/A Boxer engine. Subaru could come out with a performance version with the BRZ engine and the WRX 6 Speed Manual.
….common sense, what I like with Scott KILMER is his common sense oriented speech & contents & I follow him for quite sometimes now.
THXS 4 everything….😊
Just sold my 14 Crosstrek because I didn't need AWD any longer and moving on to a used Tundra.
163500 miles. Not one single issue with the Crosstrek engine.
& CVT.
i have a 21 base model WRX and on my fairly twisty levee road commute i get 30mpg with ease. fun to drive car too. tons of low end torque, they have a twin scroll turbo that spools incredibly fast, they make full torque at 2500 RPM lol. although, i wouldnt be flooring it at low RPMs and lugging the engine.
Just bought a 2011 wrx premium hatchback two months ago with 119,000 miles on it. Most people know that people around my age destroy most of these cars with wrongfully modding them or putting mods with no tune etc. But I had a great find with the first owner an second owner lightly modding this car and actually tuning it. These are great cars and the people that blow them up give Subarus a bad rep. Just like most other cars take care of it well and it will take care of you. I love my wrx hatch that I’m thinking of getting a sti later in the future.
U should autocross it
hope you didn’t overpay before uncle rodney comes knocking.
Love the unbiased knowledge Scotty speaks✊🏾🙏🏾
My dad has a 16? Ish outback the 2.5 non turbo. Every year pulls a trailer for 1500miles on holyday trip. The car runs like new. Change oil and filters that's it. Some tires and a belt. Way better than a vw. The 4wd makes it a workhorse with a trailer no problem uphill. He even get speeding tickets while pulling a trailer haha.
I love the WRX, it’s a fantastic car! I’m just not interested in paying $400 a month for car insurance because of my age lol
I pay $133 for full coverage on an STI, such a pain.
@@WaltzwithAIlmao i pay $300 a month and I drive a hybrid.😂

Me with a '20 STI, hearing 40mpg... 😢
Still love the EJ rumble though.
Re: snow tires. I live in Syracuse, the snowiest metro area in the US - I got along just fine with my FR-S, even on the stock all-seasons. That said, I use Sottozero winters on the STI and it's basically a 3500-lb snowmobile.
I have a 150k, 2017 wrx base. The head unit is atrocious, and the the mpg is not great. That being said, I love the thing. Pennzoil platinum 5-30 with K@N oil filter every 3-5k, I have had 0 problems. Actually I think the driver side window switch cluster is going out, it acts up and won’t roll up any windows, once in a blue moon. No engine mods other than a cat back, I plan on doing Bosch shocks and struts, wider rims, oil and tranny cooler, oil catch cans. I recommend that everyone get shifter mods such as bushings and slop stops. Eventually, when it’s paid off, I plan on non-op and tracking it.
I still drive a stock auto 02 WRX Wagon 2.0 with 170K on it. Other than wear maintenance parts it's only had the alternator replaced. Amsoil fluids since new all the way around.
That's a 2020, not a 2022. I had a 2002, it blew a head gasket at 50K miles and went through 3 trannies and 2 rear diffs in that time. Of course, I blame the fact that it had around 500 horsepower and the HG blew at the track on a hot day. I sprung a coolant leak at the turbo and didn't notice until the car shut down because I was running water and not coolant at the time. If I was using coolant I would have smelled it before it was too late. That car was incredible and defied all logic with what it was capable of. What a wonderful car.
You are correct. That is my car and I think Scotty misheard me. It is a 2020 model.
Thanks Scotty ,to share love on subaru's I have my 20 subaru sti with 47k miles and still running strong.
I got a 2014 scion frs(same as Subaru brz) kept mine stock, its pushing 120k miles and still going strong with 0 issues
I drove around Long Island through Blizzards and on the roads afterwards for ten years in my 1987 Ford Escort GT without snow tires. The Eagle GTs that came with the car were great for three seasons but I replaced them with Michelin MXVs and used different iterations of those for the rest of the time I had the car and I never needed snow tires in all of the worst winters.
Come on Scotty Subie stopped making the 6 cylinder years ago. And there switches are from the 90's . Subaru is definitely of the mind set if it ain't broke. FYI I have a 23 Crosstrek Ltd. 2.5 liter NO Turbo. I'm gonna drive it till I die. Oil Change ever 5k miles no and if or butts.
I had Three Subaru Foresters. Never used snow tires. Just snow rated all season tires. Even in a Blizzard I had no problem in the snow. And that has been since 2002 .
Yeah, those will be fine. Anything that isn't a summer tire, really.. the only issue you'll has without a dedicated snow tire is ice/black ice.
My dealer through in a lifetime warranty for free. It covers nearly everything but the clutch. So yeah I don't mind driving it hard LOL.
Love your videos been a fan for years.
Daughter has a Impreza and was pushing 49mpg on the highway. Couldn't believe it until she showed me the dashboard display
It's nice to see a real engine and not a stinking battery.
(heard in the 1900s) You keep driving that horse and buggy.
These gasoline powered automobiles that people are buying are probably just a fad.
I’m all about electric motors. Look at the RC car industry. Butttt those batteries are cheap, interchangeable and easily replaced. If only the auto industry tried to build the best product instead of planned obsolescence.

If you are an auto technician then you lightly modify a VA WRX STI and not think about it. So far the only thing wrong was the stock clutch slipping haha! Better than the guy who spun main bearings on the older WRX Im replacing the engine in currently!
I own two Legacys. A 1993 station wagon 2.2 GX and a 2011 GT 2.5 turbo.
Amazing cars.
My wifes mom just bought a 23 subi legacy, its the rootbeer brown, its really nice..its an automatic, shes in her 80s, she had an 03 or 04 crown vic that she just traded in with like 44k miles because it had a hole in the frame, she was going to haveit fixed, but she didnt think shed feel safe anymore..im against people buying brand new..,i think its a waste of money, but she had she crown vic since it was new, and just traded it in last year, the subi will probably last her the rest of hr life, seeing as she put like 44k on the crown vic in about 20 yrs
I have a 2015 Forester, and outside of regular maintenance, no issues.
Do you think the car industry is ever surprised or wowed? Or always just shocked?
2:15 all i can focus on is the cat in the background lol
He made it disappear when he waved his arm
Back up cameras are a STUPID IDEA. I like mirrors, The back up camera gets me all f'd up, backing up.....
Use both
Had an 03 wrx stage 2 for 6 years daily driven, zero problems except for ac hose 😄
Good cars.
Everything was built from the factory as it was factoring in all their research and development. What we have driving off the lot is the end result of that data and decisions made accordingly.
I don’t understand why people act as though cars are supposed to be modifiable without breaking. If you want it so you have to spend the money and do it right.
I have a 2012 Prius and I couldn’t be more happy with it but I really do need AWD since I live in the PNW, my parents bought a 2023 forester and it’s awesome, I fell in love with it, so I’m considering buying a 2024 Subaru Acsent
even if it was 2wd, i would still put 4 snow tires on, when the grip on the front exceeds the rear, you slide around, when the grip on the rear exceeds the front, you dont turn...
The va (2015 - 2021)chassis was ok but had it's problems. I put 137k on it. Got 20k on my 22 and i love it so much more so far
VB looks ugly tho
I recently bought a new 2023 crosstrek premium with a manual because of a video you did awhile back. I wanted to give you a big thank you for that vide, and all the others. My wife and I love it, and it's my daily drive to the Ford plant I work at. 😂 I would have bought a new Maverick or even Bronco Sport... but supply and demand didn't meet the demand... none available. I had to drive 1,200 miles in a single day for the pickup, but worth it.
Nothing will ever beat a dedicated snow tire i ran blizzaks and I love them
Our 2010 Outback just blew a head gasket. (~175k on its second gasket- MLS too)
Avoid EJ25 engines altogether folks. I’m sure the newer 4 cyl engine designations are much better (although I did hear that some earlier FBs were getting failed piston rings), but avoid that 2.5 like the plague.
I have 100,000 on my 2016 WRX with regular tires and drive in Minnesota, I do snow removal I drive it in the blizzards 2' of snow and it's better than my '21 Tacoma TRDOR
I saw a Subaru commercial where they claim they are more reliable, safer, and rated better than Honda and Toyota.
The infamous J.D. Powers said that.
Very helpful video. Yes to Subaru AWD system. No to Subaru automatic transmission. Maybe to Turbo if you drive it conservatively.
I had an 02 Impreza with 200,000 miles on it. I bought it with 150,000 on it and a bad engine knock. Paid $1000. Added STP treatment and drove it no problem for 3 years and 50,000 miles till the motor finally let go.
Snow tires work better than AWD. Having both is better still ... but snow tires are more important. 🌨❄☃
That's exactly right. The difference between a good snow tire & an 'all season' tire isn't even close. The stopping distances are often the most shocking. Most snow tires will stop a vehicle in less than 1/2 the distance of an all season. Sometimes even less than that.
@@Mayamax3 Our Legacy 1992 Model = We/I had 4 Rims/ Bridgestone Winter Tires Org from Japan and the All Season Rims. The Original Winter Tires/Rims still on and Good until got stolen this May 2023.

own a WRX, besides the gas mileage nothing need to be worry if you bring it for service on time
Wrx overlander? Would love to see...but a crosstrek would be more ideal for that lol
The INDUSTRY IS SHOCKED AGAIN😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
My dad picked up a 2023 2 weeks ago and I'm currently really working on convincing my wife to let me get one now too lol
Nice little car. The all wheel drive is good to have. But if I lived in an area with the potential for significant snowfall. I would get a vehicle with higher ground clearance.
The Outback or Crosstrek would be perfect
People have actually raised WRX's up with lift kits and they look badass with off road tires. Like the other person said, the Crosstrek is perfect for that. I was just parked next to a Wilderness edition and it had a surprising amount of ground clearance.
