I drove a 06 Gallardo at the dream car drive in central FL and I honestly expected more of it from it in terms of cornering compared to the F430.
The steering was really heavy and fought you especially coming out of corners in comparison (expected of a awd car with a bit of power). It had terrible throttle response for the first 2 laps while popping and sputtering when hitting the gas at low rpms and It’s pretty much what I expected for a baseline vert Gallardo, at first.
Once it warmed up and was feeling happy though, it took off like a bat out of hell in the straights and became a totally different car.
It was a car that’s had a rough life so I wasn’t too hard on it’s engine condition and it should be expected of any car with a racing life.
All and all, in terms of straight line speed (and sound) I had the most fun in the Lambo. In cornering though, the F430 took the cake and still was no slouch when it came to straight line speed and it would have been a good race between the two of them.
Both of them were super fun though and if anyone lives in central fl, you should give it a go if you’d like to drive one they way they are supposed to be driven.
It’s like riding in a drivable rollercoaster and something you’ll look back at and defiantly remember.

  • @diestar1

Having many hours of experience behind the wheel of a manual first gen Gallardo - you hit the nail on the head with this. I was curious to hear someone else’s thoughts and it sounds like you found all the same points.
I will say - I really don’t mind the rough ride and can spend hours driving the car really hard without feeling like I need a chiropractor after but it is entirely possible that it’s just me.
Far and away my favorite part is how mechanical it feels. It feels like you’re just being pushed from behind by this raw engine/machine and that feeling is pure bliss.

Dude maybe the transmission is bad, but to me it doesn’t feel it. Sure late in the day when you’re headed back to town and just want to get some food some of those downshifts at the stoplights throw you forward a little much and start to get on your nerves once you’ve had your fun for the day. But for me, Saturday morning when you’re ready for some antics, it just translates to straight drama once you get on it. I love that gap of silence between the shifts that feels like it takes foreverrrr for the next gear to kick in 😂 then you get a horse kick in the back as you run into the next gear. Also, like you said best part is the upshifts 100%, so loud and aggressive. This car still commands as much attention going through town as any modern Lambo. Nice video loved the thorough review.

I honestly think I would prefer a transmission like this one to the newer and smoother dual clutches. There's a roughness and a raw racecar feeling there that I just like. Honestly, I think I like that car more than the newer ones. Haven't driven any of them, probably never will, but that's just my opinion from what i've seen.

I think that if you plan on buying a pre lp you need to get the gated shifter. It will probably be more collectable in the long run.

I was curious to watch this. I picked up a pre LP (also yellow, but gated) last year that needed work. Having *mostly* sorted it, one thing I'll say is that it's pretty usable, I'm not sure I'd be inclined to drive a "big body" car as often, whereas with the Gallardo it's easy as "I have an errand to run, I'll take the Lamborghini". Thus there is some non-monetary value proposition there of lower barriers to just jump in and go. It's also been shockingly easy to work on, although in typical fashion, the mostly-italian shop manual is garbage.

When it comes to design and looks every Lambo was ahead of its time and aged well. Countach came out in early 70s and it turn heads today as much as it did half a century ago. Just look at the Aventador, it came out 13 years ago and it looks modern in and out. It even had a digital cluster as a base model!
