I honestly don't see too many people cross shopping these two cars because they are so different other than speed. If you want a fast 4-door, get the G70. For me, it would be the Mustang because I like N/A v8's with a manual transmission. The Ford v8 will probably require less maintenance long term compared to a twin-turbo v6. It would NOT be orange, though. Full disclosure, one of my daily drivers is a 2004 Mach 1, 5sp manual, 124K miles, owned since new.

I had a 2016 GT with performance package, manual. As a 35+ male, with 2 kids, with traffic, it was a terrible daily commuter. As a weekend car, it was glorious. Getting kids in and out of child seats was terrifying at best. Fuel mileage was so horrific, gassing up every few days. The build quality was questionable with all the panel gaps and issues I had with the seats and breaks. However, out of the box, it sounded like Thor’s hammer, and had ridiculous speed that rivals anything German with wheelbarrows of cash to spare. I say all that to say this.... I got rid of the Mustang after a year and bought an F150 (with the 5.0) because the most important thing right now is ability to get my kids out of the car without feeling like I did a yoga session. But the GT, made me feel like I was 18 again and so, I’m saving up for another Mustang. 🤦‍♂️😏

6 months later in an 18 GT with the manual, can confirm this car puts a stupid grin on your face leaving work every day! I chose the 265's M+S rated tires on all corners and experienced first snow in Missouri just recently. With a trunk full of wood and full tank of gas, I made it to work with about an inch on the roads. Any more and will need some Blizzaks (which were absolutely fantastic on 16 Camaro SS). The Mustang averaged 29.7mpg highway at 65mph with 3.55 rear end. Dyno results were 434whp/397ft*lb. My biggest complaint is the new twin disc clutch that locks out gears after it gets too warm. By warm, I mean spending an entire Saturday from dawn till dusk driving twisty roads with friends. If you're worried about getting too "squirrelly", rest assured that the new traction management is a very strict nanny. In track mode, you are allowed to slide about 10-15 degrees before it brings you back in. The traction control also kicks in if you are not doing a burnout. You can hold the traction control toggle to disable the nanny by 90%, but it still kicks in with extreme scenarios (1 donut revolution usually triggers power cut). My only gripe is the lack of shifting within legal speeds... The gears are so tall, that 1st alone can hit about 50, 2nd goes to around 80, and 3rd tops out at the end of the quarter mile at 115. If you prefer to bang a lot of gears, Miata with 1:1 6th gear is a much better solution.

@@TheRickJames, Not just in a short straight line. That much lighter, more powerful Mustang would pound the G80 even more on a track. The G80 is not built for cornering. It's a boulevard cruiser built for comfort on freeway trips, not for cornering on a track. I've owned older variations of both of these vehicles. I bought a 2005 Mustang GT when the new body style came out. It had a 300 HP 4.6 liter V8 and 5 speed standard transmission. I've long ago got rid of that vehicle, but I still own a 2011 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 Sedan with a 385 HP engine and a 6 speed auto. The Genesis has a considerably more powerful motor than my Mustang had, but because it's around 500 pounds heavier, the Mustang had slightly better straight line acceleration numbers. The lighter, less powerful Mustang would walk all over the Genesis on a track though.

If you can only have one car and live north of the 40th parallel, you'll be happier year-round in the G70. Although the Mustang is a blast in warm-dry weather, I know from experience, once the temperature drops and it's wet most of the time, driving the mustang becomes an exercise in frustration as it has to be constantly babied. I switched to an Audi S4 2 years ago and am 100% happier for 6 months of the year, and only 10% less happy for the other 6 months. Then bought a used Miata for track days.

Few things they missed on the Mustang GT (Premium) that made it seem to give the Genesis an edge as a daily driver:
    - Comfort steering mode and quiet exhaust mode that make it easier to steer and quieter to drive. They make a big difference and quiet mode can even be scheduled for certain times so your neighbors don’t hate you. (See 12:15 for quiet mode on exhaust mode select screen but not mentioned)
    - The recaro seats (expensive option) are not heated and cooled but the regular leather seats on the Mustang GT are. The regular leather seats also have lumbar support adjustment.
    - Trunk space. The Mustang has a huge trunk and foldable back seats. 13.5 cubic feet vs 10.5 for the Genesis.
    - The back seats in the Mustang have just four inches less legroom than the Genesis.
    - Finally, they did not mention the snow/rain driving mode but mentioned every other one (track, drag, sport+ see 12:24). So the con of the Mustang in slippery conditions seems not so bad when that mode is an option.
Disclaimer: I love my Mustang GT

@@LanguagesWithAndrew The snow/rain mode increases how much you need to depress the accelerator to move. It prevents you from spinning out since the car has a lot of torque and it could be a problem if you have lead foot. However I never use it in the rain. Interesting comparison. I bought a 2018 base stock 2.3L 4 cylinder Ecoboost, six speed five months ago. It's got all the good traits of the eight cylinder, it's a little edgy to drive at times and keeps you on your toes and it's such a blast to drive. It's not too loud and gets great gas mileage too, about 29 mpg highway. For a daily driver it's pretty hard to beat. And let's not forget an Ecoboost Mustang has 310 hp and 350 ft/lbs of torque. It breaks the rear end loose just like V-8 and I got mine for $21,500. It's got to be one of the best bang for the buck performance cars you can get. And it just rolls down the highway at 90-100 too it's very smooth. I love it. Tom Rolland

Great video again, Throttle Beards are killing it. Totally agree that these cars could be crossed shopped, a near empty nester may not need 4 doors, but not sure if they want to go to a full on coupe V8 but know they want a sporty RWD car of some sort.

    Hey Blake Swan,
I drove the 3.3 TT (slight turbo lag) for an entire weekend in Vancouver, Canada just 30 days ago and totally luved it except for: (a) the rear seats are small (b) The resale value & reliability concerns are HUGE (c) I found a huge vibration when cornering - could be the brake vectoring.
BUT - The price point, the maintenance included, the valet service that I received was top notch, that engine was put thru its paces and handled it very well, huge amounts of torque (I enjoy to drive spiritedly when safe to do so- Very very happy with that engine & transmission), many Drive Modes, great sound system and all the safety features.
I used that right pedal and my mileage took a big hit. I also drove on eco mode on a highway trip for 100 kms and got 12.6/100 kms.
The comparable cars will set you back $15K for similar features and options.
I like the looks. My tester had the Blue ext with Red Brembos, dark wheels along with the black & red int. That quilted interior is gorgeous.
Really it has every feature that you want AND the drive, sportiness, turning radius, that ENGINE...WOW!!!
    Cheers from Vancouver, Canada

I don't see why reliability concerns you, it's made by the Hyundai/Kia group which is right up there in terms of reliability and is much better than any American or German brand and even some Japanese brands like Nissan. On top of that, you get free maintenance for 5 years or 100 000km and pretty much every one leases these kinds of cars for 4-5 years, so why would you care? Either way, it's not like it will break down after 4-5 years lol

The resale value is big for me but I tend to exit my cars every year or two and my Hyundai Genesis tanked worse than any of the last 10 cars I’ve lease /owned!! It’s a great car ...I rent it out on Turo cos I rarely use it anymore till my lease is up ... and I don’t love Hyundai customer service or dealership service for the price point at all!

Hyundai/Kia and now Genesis are easily one of the most reliable brands on the market. There's a reason they slap the best warranty above all brands on there product!

Great review, I switched from a gen coupe to a G70 and I couldn't be any happier with the car and despite being AWD it really feels RWD even around the city. Also from a consumer view in my opinion, the G70 has a lot more to offer in quality and usability. I just wish that there would be some kind of valved exhaust on the car or have it as on option from the dealership.

It just ticked all sensible buttons. 5 months ago I sold it and bought the 2019 Mustang Bullitt. Ohh man... perhaps I will one day again drive the Luxury car, but until then I will just enjoy every single drive with a big smile looking after where they put the speeding traps 😎

The Mustang is a fantastic car . . .for my son. I think that's really the issue I have with it. The lack of premium build materials, the boy racer design . . . it's a blast to drive but ultimately if you're over 35, there are more grown up cars that are just as fast if not faster but are built way better. Yes, they're more expensive, but that's why you make an adult paycheck.
