      I love how most How-To videos are uploaded by rank amateurs performing their first ever home repair, skipping “small,” yet crucial steps while holding the iPhone in a poorly lit room with whining kids, barking dogs, and the neighbor’s death metal playing in the background, interrupted by multiple ads.
      THIS should be THE template for all How-To videos.

      and for me, its following the video, being stupid taking off my glove, hitting my hand on the side of the back of the washer, blood gushing everywhere, ER, "patched up" then now i have an open wound and a tetanus shot... and now to take off the front of the washer...

      Hmm. watched this video; no doubt there will be some abbreviated parts, but even so just over an hour's worth of video. Would probably take longer than that to organise a replacement machine and dispose of the old one. What this world needs are more repair men not so called maintenance men.
      Also not so sure how you can determine if it is a "serious repair" until you've found what the fault is.

    Fantastic video, I cannot imagine how much money and time (if I'd been dealing with a repair service) this video saved me. I followed it to the letter (twice) and replaced the spider (twice), the shaft seal and the balance ring this time. Worked perfectly.

  • @razoredge6455
    @razoredge6455 4 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    FYI, Shocks and balance rings along with the spider arm and bearing require a complete tear down of the machine. Well, the shocks if you really want to call them that can be replaced by removing rear panel and the front assembly. But you are already half way to complete tear down.
    The balance rings, spider arm and bearing and seal require you completely remove the drum assembly. The motor must be removed off the back and springs removed, it is a long process and if you are doing this buy the spider arm, new bearing and seals, a new drum seal, and balance rings, and also buy the bolts for the spider arm. Your old bolts will break when being loosened.
    If you find any of your old parts are still good, then return the new ones. Their video should mention this.
    In my case, I did replace everything mentioned above and mine still will not spin correctly. This leads me to believe it is the control board which is not available. So, I could have bought a new machine for what I just spent on parts that were not needed to fix a problem that they describe which can be unrelated to the parts they are saying to replace to fix the vibration problem.
    Do yourself a favor and pull up a chair and watch your machine go through its cycle.
    Mine would not distribute the clothes properly like it used to. Before it would spin up slowly until clothes were distributed evenly then speed up to max RPM.
    Now, it spins up and stays at a medium speed which if unbalanced, lets the machine beat itself up. I can compensate by pushing the pause button which stops machine allows it to change spin direction and then try to distribute clothes evenly. This use to happen automatically when it was new, which makes me suspect the control board is bad or a sensor is bad. None of the parts this company has videos for that I replaced fixed my vibration problem.
    Just putting this out there for anyone else to consider and save some time and money if like me, their machine is otherwise in good shape, but it is no longer going through the spin cycle correctly.
    Good luck

      Was it a bad sensor? And is the clothes not spinning out all the way a symptom of something being wrong with the computer or sensor part?

    • @SybilDefense
      @SybilDefense ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine won't complete a spin, but only doing towels. No noticeable wobble. I did see a little piece of Grey plastic when cleaning the drain, but everything works for %70 of wash loads... just towels. My front load year doesn't offer a replacement spider arm with out the drum assembly ($500+!), so I don't want to get hosed replacing parts that won't fix 6 year old front loader. I can only assume LG and other front loaders have similar design flaws, as they are all made with china-cheap plastic and corner cutting alloys

I also took out the drum and pressure washed it and it is like new. overall the unit is like new now for a cost of about C$400 versus C$1400 for a new equivalent model. It should be good for ten more years! Oh - be careful not to mix up the screws especially the door ones as there are different sizes.

    After gettng terrible racket at the end of the last fast spin cycle (progressively getting worse) and observing the tub seeming to be out of alignment, took mine apart pretty much all as described with only couple minor differences. Found the spider assembly to be good though was full of gunk. Bearings seem fine and no sign of leaking. Balancing ring still has liquid. Could it just be the gunk on the spider assembly that is causing the noise and vibrations?

    I have a GE front load washer GFWR2705H1MC which had a failed seal. The bearing failed from the water breach. Looking at the obvious it would seem that a new quality seal and bearings should do the trick but not exactly. Upon inspection, the drum or basket came in contact with the tub. In doing so it cut groves in rear section of the split tub. A new washer has very little basket movement in all directions. The basket spider attaches to the basket and makes the whole assembly rigid when bolted in place. The tub should never come in contact with the spin basket. If it does, your looking at a complete series of events that lead to the final failure of water leaking. First, the machine started getting noisy long ago but we forget how quiet it use to be. The balancing rings lose their fluid. The spider on the back of the spin basket cannot be loose, or cracked. The balancing ring or rings must be sealed and contain Salt Water and ball bearings that rotate the ring in fluid. Next is the seal and the inner and outer bearigs. All these parts add up to overall basket rigidity. The balance rings only affect the spin of the drum. Any excessive basket movement when pulled in any direction is a real problem. If the bearings and seal have been replaced, and the excessive movement is still there tlhen the spider to basket assembly attachment has a problem. The moral of the story is excessive movement in the basket mount has repercussions in all facets of washer balance. When it's all said and done, the balancing rings, springs and shocks cannot compensate for a failed spider to basket assembly and bearings that have excessive movement.

    What was the reason to change the balance ring? Was it broken? Did it make any noise? My washer makes a very funny noise, only when is turned off. I spin the drum by hand just a little and I can hear something moving in the front balance ring. I looked everywhere and is something trapped in between the balance ring and tub. Any help? Thanks .

    • @fairbornCCF

      The balancing ring is a liquid filled ring with large bearings that move around when the drum is rotated. They should not make loud noises since they are in fluid.

    This part is a $100 replacement, after all this effort you might as well replace the shocks, pump, etc. Even just replacing the ring isn't really worth it. Matt,
    Other commenters have asked these questions, but I do not see any responses.
    So what was the original problem? The difference between the old and new part was not obvious.
    How would this part become defective?
    And why replace one balance ring and not the other especially when a total dismantle is required?
    And while you are at it, please show the correct way to determine if a shock is viable or not.
    Haven't seen any specs on these or how to determine if replacement is needed.
    Samsung sure doesn't make technical information available for its products.
    P.S. Older Samsung front end machines don't have a discharge filter nor an emergency drain hose. An absolute horror when filled with wet clothing a water.

    • @billthompson2860
      @billthompson2860 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I swear this question has been asked repeatedly and purposely ignored. Why? From what I have read elsewhere, the balancing ring contains bearings in sodium chloride (Salt Water). If the salt water leaks out, the bearings move to quickly and make a lot of noise as the drum turns. If you rotate the drum by hand, a few inches of movement rolls the bearings in the ring. If there still is salt water in the rings the balls are controlled and much quieter. There are control codes for testing the machines and they are a very guarded secret. My GE front loader has the ability to offset a 5lb unbalanced load using to wet towels tied together and using control codes to run the spin cycles and observe the function.
