- I made another visit to Glen Sherup Woodlands to capture the soundscape, and was surprised by the noise from the near by wind turbines. On my last visit they weren't active but I could hear them clearly this time as they harvested the winds power.
The pre-dawn start was well worth it to enjoy the peaceful ambient sounds, I hope you find it worthwhile too.

Very nice Andy. As a beginner field recordist with a pair of Usi's (same as Clippy) I find them ultra sensitive. Maybe that's why you picked up the turbines easily. I need to try some Cardioid mics for a comparison, as I find the Usi's can be annoying at times at how sensitive they are. Seriously, I can record rain at the back of my house and hear people around me in their kitchens, yet I can't hear that with my own ears ! When I first got them I tried to record sounds in the house with all doors and windows closed and I could hear kids playing outside very clearly. Maybe it's me being a dumb newbie, but they do seem crazy sensitive.
That was the biggest surprise to me also when I started using sensitive mics. It is mind boggling how much our brain tunes out due to it deciding what's important to hear.
I've yet to find somewhere that I can record for 30 mins and not hear any human or industrial noise, but I will :-)
