    Tesla's are expensive but people that say they can't afford a Tesla haven't been paying attention to price increases in the non EV market. They are outrageous!! Tesla's are about 10 to 15 percent more expensive than a comparable car in their class but it cost 90 percent less to fuel and maintain them, plus you get technology the others do not have. Of course Tesla is selling like hot cakes in Cali their better cars and gas prices are though the roof.

    • @AORD72
      @AORD72 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Exactly, and if the massive demand for Tesla's dropped off they could easily cut the prices drastically due to the massive mark up they have. As batteries improve I think the manufacturing price of EV's will be far less than ice cars as well. Building an IC engine and gearbox must have huge costs.

    • @Bryan-fb8dh
      @Bryan-fb8dh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AORD72 Yep once those numbers get high enough the bulk discount will be equal with the other bigs. Except there are less parts in EVs and somethings are cheaper "motor". Won't be long.

    We've owned our Model Y for 2 weeks now and everyone stops me to ask how I like the car.
    I tell them it's the best car I've ever bought or driven.
    They then say yea but the waitlist is 8 months
    and I ask them if they have checked a GM car lately - 6-month wait
    The biggest complaint they then have is the time to charge at a SuperCharger 30 minutes is crazy
    I then tell them that I never waste time filling up the car weekly at a gas station - I fill it up every night in the garage
    So if I have to use a SuperCharger the overall wait time of over a year is still better than a weekly trip to the gas station.
    They then hold the chin and you can see the wheels turning...

      So true my friend. People have been FUDed to death to think they need a 30 minute charge whenever they leave their house. I was explaining how wrong this is to a salesperson at a furniture store, who asked to see my Model 3 LR. She said, "I want to get one but I don't want to wait 30 minutes every time I go somewhere." I explained that I can drive 300 miles before recharging, which I do every night when I'm not driving, just like a phone.
      It didn't even occur to her that you could charge at home.

      Well said. I own a 2017 Chevy Volt PHEV with 50 miles of range, and it takes about 5 seconds to plug in, and 5 seconds to unplug every time I drive. I love thumbing my nose at the high gasoline prices and the oil companies. The 50 miles of electric range covers 90% of my driving, and I resent the fact that it isn't fully electric when I start to use gas. It is just a transition vehicle until my CyberTruck gets delivered.

    We are happy to have two Teslas in our California garage, which we charge at night. We offset ~85% of our energy use, including charging our cars, with solar power and Powerwalls. Our running costs for transportation have gone down by about 75%. Maintenance has been minimal running about $500 per year per car including tires. Crazy high (historically) gasoline prices here at about $6.50 per gallon. Don't think prices will decrease anytime soon. Yes, a similar Tesla may cost more than a comparable ICE car initially, but that is paid back in a short period of time. As others have commented, people are not typically aware of the difficulty of buying a popular vehicle and the rising prices, so comparisons are actually better for Tesla than many assume at first glance. Many folks are getting the big picture about the future of transportation.

  • @frankcoffey
    @frankcoffey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think a lot of consumers are buying a car earlier than they planned to just to switch to EV and escape the high gas prices. It doesn't take much math when you add you monthly gas cost to your existing car payment you can afford a Tesla. If you drive a lot the savings on gas may even offset most of the Tesla payment. The savings is real and starts the first day you get your EV. Not only that but even gas cars are getting really expensive so if you need a car it's not much more to get an EV. High car prices + high gas prices will drive EV sales.

    This explains the explosion of Teslas in my area of SCal in the past 3-4 months. I live in south Orange County about 60 miles south of Los Angeles, the number of Teslas I see has been amazing. At every traffic stop I see one or more Teslas stopped or passing. Recently at a stop light there were 4 other cars besides me in my Tesla, three of the others was a Tesla, so 4 out of 5 was a Tesla, the other was a pickup, he must have freaked out, lol. Interestingly, gas prices have been soaring since two months ago yet the no. of Teslas was increasing prior to that. Also the wait time for a new Tesla is months, this tells me factors other than just gas price is causing the massive shift. Expect a real explosion in the remainder of the year as those fed up with paying $100 to fill up order and receive an EV, esp. a Tesla that they see more people driving.
    Here in sunny SCal if you can afford solar panels it pays for itself in less than 5 yrs, at least for me, even less if you have an EV. I have a modest 3.6kW solar panel system, net metering and EV TOU (Time of Use) rates, and a heat pump for heating and cooling. In a household of two people my monthly electric bill is a small negative ranging from -$10 to - $25. Sure beats pumping $5.79 a gallon gas. The math works for me, ymmv.

    The out the door price for a Tesla model 3 according to jbpowers is $66,000; California has the largest state subsidy in the USA. I honeslty think it is near criminal to steal money from struggling middle class and poorer families in Calfornia to subsidise rich people - there is not income limit to these in Californias program. If EVs are worth the money and a better choice then let those that can afford them instead of a ICE luxury sedan pay for them.

    Beware, We collected a new, Shanghai Model Y LR 23rd February 2022. Brilliant car, even better than our terrific but lethal in rain spray Model 3LR of 2 years, due to repeated emergency braking from 60-70mph - Tesla Tech are still working on a fix, except for .... the Hankook tyres on the Model YLR seem to crash on the road so hard, that deep bass, sound pressure waves reverberate throughout the cabin so harshly, that we get headaches from it. No parcel shelf provided either. Tesla Service, Nottingham (UK) said that "Yes, it is harsh to the ear but, as it is a characteristic of the car, there is nothing we are prepared to fix" We rejected the car, as is our right, via Tesla's UK finance partner, Black Horse, as Tesla won't deal any further with us directly. Black Horse have now taken a further 2 months, allocating the complaint to a legally trained, "Complaint Manager" who has admitted that he has "no knowledge or experience of Teslas" and got his "facts" wrong and has achieved absolutely nothing to assess this problem. This hasn't stopped him issuing a claim rejection letter to us. 3 months after buying it and 563 recorded miles, we can't drive our Model YLR without getting headaches & nausea.
    I am a chartered Mechanical Engineer with over 45 years in the motor trade. I have had problems with new vehicles before but, never anything as outrageously bad as this.
    Now submitted claim to UK Finance Ombudsman.
    If that doesn't produce a fair result, we will buy this awful vehicle out of the the appalling finance agreement and pursue our claim directly against Tesla.
    Major shame, as we are EV fans in general & Tesla in particular, with reservation on a Model X Plaid - no idea when that might appear though. Apart from of course, opening Superchargers to non-Tesla users, who block 2 bays to make cables reach. 😤🤯🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤦‍♂🤷‍♂

      Right now 3 year old Teslas are selling for almost as much as their owners paid for them, some even making a profit. When Tesla manages to get manufacturing up to meet demand so there is almost no wait time the used car market will fall to a more reasonable price. 3 year old cars typically have dropped 40%. One of Tesla's aims is to produce the most reliable cars on the planet, they really are over-built and designed to last. So in 2025 would you rather buy a 2022 Tesla or a brand new Toyota Camry for the same price? This is Tesla's plan, build reliable cars and let their used cars compete in the lower price range market. I think when the 4680 batteries are in full production and in most if not all their cars, Tesla will come out with the longest and best warranty on the market. This warranty will cover 3 year old used cars so you would get a real apples to apples comparison of a used Tesla to a new car of other brands.

    • @avery4528
      @avery4528 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@royh6526 At $30,000 I'd buy a 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid or a 2025 Golf GTI over a used Tesla Model 3 if I did not own a home. That the crisis. You need a car. You don't own a home. You have no personal charging access. As a home owner I would be looking at electric cars that still have their 7500 federal tax credit in the US. Maybe used Teslas will be popular in 2040 when there aren't tax incentives left and battery packs are more developed. Best off getting a naturally aspirated hybrid, a GTI, or a small diesel SUV can tow for the time being. If you don't mind waking up at 5am once or twice a week to go to an empty charger go for it but as the market becomes more saturated the amount you pay at the pump will even out with the electric vehicles. A lot of infrastructure needs to be built in terms of chargers but also nuclear plants and upgraded electrical lines.

      Toyota could have sold as many Primes and Hybrids as they could make , but they didn't make that many . The dealers have been gouging for the few they get. With the 6 dollar gas people that would have considered these now want a fully electric.

    Probably one reason so high in California is because they are bought there but then transfered to another state that won't allow sales?

      Went on a 15 minute drive to the dentist yesterday, saw about a dozen Model Ys and several Model 3s. And I'm not in the bay area, where this has already been the trend for a while.
      The amount of Teslas on the road is rapidly increasing.

      Traffic still sucks, but being able to enjoy the comfort and extra goodies that our tesla has makes sitting in that sucky traffic a little more bareable, not feeling as guilty for having the AC on knowing I'm not using up gas, or polluting the environment as I sit in traffic is also a really nice feeling!
      Edited for spelling.

    My concern is how Tesla will keep customers happy. What will customers do if they can’t order or have to wait more than a year? Also still no announcement of any new Gigafactory while we are almost half 2022. Silence before the storm perhaps?

    • @Tom55data

      It is about expectation management, like very thing else in life
      1) You read the online form for Tesla - it gives you a price and delivery date. Your expectation is - I will pay that price, and wait that time, or buy difference car. You make an order with a November delivery date - you plan how you manage the lack of car (after giving back you lease car), then you get a delivery date of June. You become very happy. Expectation managed well.
      2) You go to a non-Tesla dealer, they screw you over on the price after you paid the deposit, then keep asking for more money to keep you on the "preferred" list and the delivery date goes backwards. Expectation managed badly.

    Buying twitter is not the problem. Saying he’s going to vote for the GOP because the democrats are too mean is the problem.
    He’s basically publicly announcing that he’s backing the people trying to overturn democracy. Kind of not cool.
    That may not be his intention, but that’s what it comes across as. Better to stay non partisan.

    Sam, I live in Ohio in the US and paid $4.40 per gallon for my Toyota 4 Runner. California is higher than the rest of the US because of taxes and doesn't represent average price per gallon across the US.
