Hi there. I have the Ex Tech 505. Its out 50mv low @ around 5V dc,just over 100mv low @10V dc and so on. Its 4V low @ 244V ac. Its great on resistance but murder on capacitors. Its ok all round on Amps and temp. I have a Fluke 177 and Hyelec MS89 too so manage everything between the 3 of them. The cheap Hyelec matches my Fluke on the things they both do. I like the look of the Ex Tech and use it for the things my Fluke doesn't do. I may send it to get calibrated just because I like it. They get a bad name from the EEV faithful but I like mine. The ones who don't like the do so because Dave says. Sheep. Dave's a very very clever guy and has my respect because he's top of his pile. He's bias as hell about some things but I suppose he can be right? Shite eh? Lol
I like your videos better! You'd take Dave in a square go too...Ha Ha 😀
Sorry for the copy paste but I may have to correct the original post. Not impressed seeing anyone trying to profit off my work. To me its an indication of how they conduct business.
I had ran an EX430 some time ago that was damaged from the piezo grill ignitor. I'm not sure if CEM makes that one as well. These fail around 2.5KV. Not the most robust but better than many of the ones I have looked at. It's been a pretty good meter for work and at the $120 they were selling them for, it was a great deal IMO. Per Mark's point above, it sounds like you want to have the meters aligned first.
I'm not much of a fan of any handheld meters. My BM869s is still my favorite of the ones I bought but if I found something I liked more, I would post about it instead. When it comes to running tests on them, I try to make sure everything is the same to give you a good comparison (and myself as well). I don't sell meters or work for any place that designs or makes them. No one is sending me free meters to run and I have no ads or any other income from these videos. I really could care less what people spend their money on. If I had a stake in it, I certainly would look at it differently.

I just got a new EX520 and was bummed that the temperature range is about 4°F high, while my EX430 is good. I think it measures temperature differently, because with no probe, it reads OL whereas the 430 has an internal sensor.

4 degrees high compared to what? Another low cost meter or you have a standard that you are using? Is it a constant four off over the entire operating range? If you have a standard, you may be able to align the meter.

@@joesmith-je3tq Compared to my Elitech temperature logger, my EX430A, and my Etekcity lasergrip 1200. I know they are all low cost, but the EX520 is the only outlier. As far as how the error behaves at different temps, I'm not yet sure.

@@kennethanderson7642 Were all of the meters allowed to stablilize at the same temperature before you tried this? You state you just got the meter. Did you pull it out of the box and try to make this measurement? If so, you may want to let everything settle for several hours first.

Ok I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Hi Joe, I enjoy your videos though much of the content is beyond my current understanding. When you say it's been calibrated but not aligned, does that mean it's been tested against known standards and any differences recorded, but the meter has not actually been adjusted to read the same as those standards?
I had always thought calibration meant adjustment but I re-watched one of Dave Jones very early videos on counts recently and he mentions it's not always about adjustments, but about having historical trace-ability. And then I saw your use of the term 'aligned' here. I guess that means if you are recording any measurements that matter, you are able to perform manual offsets from your calibration certificate to get the 'correct' measurement, rather than simply recording what reads on the screen? And alignment is actual trim-pot twiddling or changing of stored calibration offsets in EEPROM so the screen reads the same as (or very close to) the standards it was measured against?

Much better than my ut61e. After 6-ish years at 2.5 v it is already out at 2.467 😂

I have seen several people post about their UT61Es long term drift.

Do you remember how much you paid for this? That model is discontinued, but can be found for about $340 USD now.

Sorry, it's been way too long. A few of us picked up the CEM OEM ones for $120 a few years ago during a huge sale.
