4:22 The guy was right about those cities, sure took nearly a decade
yep he was right because he knew that Russians would not let fascists take all Ukraine, especially when you know Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk were Russian territories and build by the Russian empire..... These Ukrainian nationalists sold their country to the Americans
Yes, because Russians live there, and nazis from ukraine are killing them for 8 years now. It was about time to liberate it from nazis of ukraine.
and the old lady at the end. Wise woman
@@MrDusan25 by invading the country and pulverizing every city and village they enter? Raping, torturing and murdering Ukrainian civilians? Nice liberation by Ruzzia. We all know who the real fascists and Nazis are. Waving Russian flags and spraying swastika Zs on everything.
@@cskvision Brainwashed American who is killing, raping and torturing around the world blaming all the others, that is who yo are.
The warnings of many of the people in this video turned out to be prophetic. 😅
Well, they knew what they were guilty of. They knew how they are suppressing the Russian speakers in the name of Ukrainization. Russia just did what it had to protect ethnic Russians like they did in Crimea.
It’s horrible what Ukraine has done. I agree
@@MrPeterPan euhmmm there are things you could blame ukraine for, but you cant deny that the actual act of aggresively annexing a piece of land has been the kickstarter of the whole conflict
@@misterae6430 the Kickstarter was when they decided to oust their president in 2014. There are also many leaked calls with Victoria Nuland (USA) who discussed who would be in the new government
@@MrPeterPan Agreed, look at all those "Right Sector" flags. It's pretty clear who was leading those protests.
The reason why this protest was up because AVAKOV gave order for police to get Aleksandr Belyu (one of key leaders of Right Sector) and in the end police KILLED HIM. They said they would pay back and now they want them to leave (Avakov the minister) 2 Days ago Rada made a commision which would let a few people from Right Sector and Media watch how investigation goes.
And now about protest's they are still going on because in 2004 when people left Maidan everything became as always. Rada started to work just like as usual and nothing happened. Today it goes a bit better but some laws which go to fight corruption are being voted NO mostly by Communist and Party of Yanukovich. Those bastard's still vote NO for anti corruption law's. And there are rumor's that you for a million dollar's can buy a seat in Rada etc. That's why people aren't leaving. And today main candidat's to get power is Poroshenko(24.3%) and Tymoshenko (8.2%). Info from a native Kievan
I want to thank Vice and Simon for bringing us the real news. For showing what regular TV news won't show. Keep it coming guys!
Is he still alive, journalist? He’s very good at this.
All those people should really listen to the old lady ;)
And you wanna tell me these aren't fucking hardcore nationalists and neo-nazis????
Not "NEO NAZIs" Just nationalism
this is who america and the EU is backing, radical neo nazis, with very radical views, its a double edge sword... when you play with fire you burn yourself and watch Ukraine in the future years is going to be fucking crazy...
Kevin Cox you obviously have no idea what who's Red/Black flags belongs too.
Efreitor Habibulin
Anarchists?
david maltais The US and EU are backing the rights of an independent nation to govern it's citizens and remain sovereign. What Putin did was violate the sovereignty of an independent nation under the guise of "bringing order". The US and EU saw through that and they want Putin out of Crimea just as much as these protesters. These protesters aren't Neo-Nazis, they are the soul of a nation that has come under fire, and their government isn't doing shit about it.
I can understand where there government is coming from too; they don't want to start world war 3, but they can't just sit on their asses and do nothing while their country is being invaded. They need to take action or Russia will trample all over them.
3:13 this lady should be president, seriously!
She knew exactly what would happen.. extremely smart.
Yup, there are still good people in Kyiv and west Ukraine. Mostly the elderly though who know how the past was.
She had a point, and she was 100% right
Exactly through out this video. She is the only person with sound judgment of the situation
A looker too. It sounded like her name is Tatyana. Which is a cool name as well.
She's a defender now,she was also a popular activist in the Euromaidan protests, and was brutally beat up.
I was more amazed at Simons new clothes than what he was doing.
Berlin 30s
Ukraine is a restless, anarchic, irrational nation. Such is Ukrainian national mentality. This is why after 30 years of independence, once the richest & the most developed part of the USSR rolled down to chaos & misery, & became the poorest nation of Europe. Yelling "Glory to Ukraine!" is not a good substitute for a good life.
Oleg Petrov this is specifically because Russia keeps meddling in Ukraine. Overthrowing their governments invading supporting terrorist. How will a country improve under this?
@@shahirani4762 Rubbish. There was no meddling from Russia before the recent events. All "the overthrown governments" were organized by the West, not by Russia (learn the History better). Ukraine got independent in 1991, and the recent problems with Russia came in 2014 after the pro-western coup-de-tout. In between, Ukraine had all kinds of presidents, starting with Kravchuk, the former Soviet Communist functioner, to the nationalists like Kuchma & Yushchenko. They all were corrupt & worked hard to break economy ties with Russia and enrich themselves by selling out the industrial & military assets they got from the USSR.
@Diego Hurtado both meddled in Georgia lol
incredible footage which describes the actual situation more than any news we are having right now.
first the old guy now that woman, there are some awesome old people in Ukraine
You need to get out more often.

This is precious material Vice made. Great job! I would like to work for the Vice on such reports.
Also, Klichko spoke clear Russian at that moment, and now...
4:22 That Person Predicted The Future.
Crimeans are so happy they changed their timezone and celebrated.
She was like, "Crimea is Crimea and Kiev is Kiev!".
And he was like, "Crimea is Ukraine!" over and over.
And she was like, "Damn it...".
What the hell is that British WWII pilot doing in front of the Ukrainian parliament?
Where?
These Ukrainian protesters all sound drunk, what a damn disgrace.
probably cause thier paid russians. Who would have thought.
@Filipe Marcenko facts hurt ur feelings?
Yea,the people who want to establish order in their country and live without bandits in government are drunk people.shut up.
Simon needs to go to Brazil during the world cup.
Scary shit will happen

Welcome to the new Ukraine ladies and gentlemen.
Sheesh, what a mess. Everyone's so radical about their own opinion. All I can say to you (if you're starting to scroll down the comments) DON'T DO IT. You'll either waste your time reading them all or getting caught up in an argument.
Truest comment yet lol... Almost every comment for almost every comment ends just the way you stated lol
Thanks for that ^_^
Yup no problem.... We're some of THE FEW nice people on TH-cam I guess lol
I must get some grant funding to synthesize more of us in a lab... perhaps Google would foot the bill, that would make perfect sense!
Unless all of their money is tied up with Veridian Dynamics to create military androids.
LOL yes I will back your experiment or whatever you want to call it lol
The goal of a nation is peace, prosperity, and fairness in law for its people and families.
What a fucking mess.
4:25 "tomorrow they'll come for Kherson, Luhansk, Donetsk". Unfortunately, it seems they knew exactly what was to come as soon as Putin lost his puppet in Kyiv...
They want to be in russia. Ukraine is a fascist state after the maidan
It's funny how we allow ourselves to be divided so our politicians can do whatever they like.
Serious issues aside. This is the best reporting I have seen in my lifetime. Very inspiring. What does everyone think? I hope both sides can find peace without more blood. There are westerners who have nothing but sympathy in their hearts for this situation. I hope the greatness I have seen amongst the normal people of both countries finds its way to the leadership of both countries. If this manages to occur then for the love of God tell us how you did it, our leaders are no better :)
Yeah... No more blood shed u said then? No one could possibly believed that eight years later Europe will face biggest war since ww2. Still, Russia is at wrong side of history, Ukraine must win...also im just curious are those guys in the vid still alive... Sad and horrible, but also heroic times..

i was wondering the same, where are the guys in the video now ?
Why they did not say what the reason for Avakov to be put under tribunal? Why not tell about assasination of Right Sector leader by Avakov order?

"он нам подавал патроны и бензин" - то есть оружие на мирном майдане все-таки было? Или они патроны в рогатку заряжали? Я совсем запутался.
им это оружие уже легально выдают в нац. гвардии.
а до этого они не раз светились со стволами на майдане

Thanks Simon for sharing the news the world needs to know.
Haha, think with your brain. Grandma had some choice words for that kid.
Great journalism.
Good luck and stay safe!
Funny that there were almost no casualties when Crimea was taken over but more than a hundred people died in Kiev during protests.
After twenty dispatches I think it's safe to say that Simon has balls of steel. Some of the things he put himself into the middle of were amazing.
great dispatch Vice keep em comin
did you see the video?
Я говорю о том, что кроме отношения к ситуации в Крыму есть еще одна деталь - куда более важная. Деталь, на которой необходимо сконцентрировать внимание, а не спрашивать у всех подряд "что вы думаете про Крым?".
Congrats Simon ,you finally look refreshed, hope you feel better and Thanks for the Great Reports
Дубинки, щиты, цэ европа, цэ средневековый скайрим)))))) еще чуть чуть и дальше в античность, в бронзовый век)))
The old ladies got it right. Its a shame to see the right sector getting the support it is. If anyone in the Ukraine see's this. Read The Crowd by Gustav Le Bon. Read The New Libertarian Manifesto by Samuel Edward Konkin III. Read Psychology of a Revolution by Gene Sharp. Learn how to become the opponents of these Fascists become the opposition.
What you're witnessing is democracy at it's finest and worst. All works of life and society have a voice. On the other hand the far right/radical elements often tend to be more organized than the more "normal" ones. That is democracy's biggest weakness. Great ideas but lack of means/knowledge to broadcast/deliver them properly.
Mertaranta That my friend that is where books like the crowd come in handy. If we can get more people with what I guess you could say more common sense to organize better there can be an opposition. Hell the Crowd is arguably one of the most influential books in history seeing how governments still use its methods until this day
Awesome. Whatever side you take it's awesome reporting on the front lines.
This is Historic.
well at least this guys dont take cameras and memory cards
not yet, the media are in their favour for the moment, but once shit hits the fan and they get power, they would be quick to tell the media to fuck off
no they take your passport when you are trapped on a train and make you fork over all of your valuables, its just that Simon would never consider reporting that
They want the interior minister to step down because police killed the head of Pravy Sektor in Western Ukraine earlier this week. Seems that Simon Ostrovsky missed that small detail in his report...
police can and should KILL terrorists like them. gj ukraine police
now they have lost donetsk, luhansk, and soon mariupol... Poor guy
А теперь холодильник победил телевизор...
Millions upon millions have died under the Soviet regime and it is no fucking wonder Ukraine wants them out. Ukraine has my full support.
wtf do you know? I'm Ukranian and hate that US sponsored neo nazis ruining my country!!! GTFO with your Soviet "regime" knowledge. No other country in world did so much evil as Brits/US did. Indians genocide, slavery and how many countries US attacked? Don't you dare talking about Soviet Union "regime" asshole.
Efreitor Habibulin You are just jumping around all over the place. Do you even know what the Russians did to you?
Ukraine and russia were tied together for centuries, before Soviet Union Ukraine and Russia were same country for almost 300 years. Soviet Union constitution made Ukraine a republic, that in case of separation from URSS would become an independent country. in 1991 when Ukraine separated it was more powerful than the rest of Soviet Union (including Russia). Look at us now and look at Russia. Historically every time Ukraine was separated from Russia it was conquered by west (Like right now). My grand fathers spent their lives politically and physically (WW2) fighting these neo nazis groups that came to power today for the US money. Our country is divided and in chaos, thanks to you.
Efreitor Habibulin You need to get educated. EVERY civilization EVERY race has always had something to do with slavery. And believe it or not WHITE people were slaves once too! Russia invaded the middle east. Your government is obviously too stupid to protect their own. A revolution is needed in Ukraine.
wow, what are you smoking kid?
I really enjoyed living in Ukraine - more than anything the people I got to know. I hate seeing it on its knees like this. Thank you for the report.
Guys, the capital of Ukraine is KYIV, not Kiev!
It's Kiev in English
scpmr The name Kyiv is derived from the name of Kyi, one of four legendary founders of the city (brothers Kyi, Shchek, Khoryv and sister Lybid’). It's Kyiv for the United Nations: www.un.org/Depts/Cartographic/map/profile/ukraine.pdf and it's Kyv for Microsoft: kyiv.of-cour.se/2012/09/15/microsoft-windows-8-kyiv/ and many others who probably know English much better than you do.
Justice Rule Wow. Looks like any Ukrainians that decide to say in their Crimean homes are going to have a rough time of it. Putin's fascist supporters are some real racist assholes.
Oleh Khavruk

Thank you for this coverage, Vice!
Kiev after Crimea looks like Mordor after Ithilien
its really ironic that Kiev was the first capital of Russia. And its funny that their protests wont do nothing they're just throwing time in a trash with those protests haha. And don't forget that Ukraine gets more then half of its gas from Russia. All Russia has to do is raise the gas price and Ukraine is in big trouble.
Russia and Rus were different states with different capitals and territories included in them, separated by the Mongol Invasion, you shouldn't equate them.
Sobakus lol it was still the first capital. And its like me saying the guys that settled america are not Americans because it was a long time ago.
HappyHere Can you even read? It was the first capital of another country that's different from both Russia and the Ukraine. The first capital of Russia was Moscow. As for the guys that settled America, they were British, French, German, Spanish and every possible nationality, but not American, since the nation did not exist.
HappyHere
Kiev wasn't the first. It was at least third after Novgorod and Ladoga. Both of this cities are still in Russia. Kiev was invaded by mongols, so it is not in Russia now. When it will be clean, we will return Kiev to Russia.
This whole thing should be settled by a fist fight between Klichko and Putin.
that wouldn't be a fair fight but sounds good to me
Unless you know what fascism is, don't call people a fascist. I see that word in every single political argument, yet no one ever seems to use it correctly.
Alaskans also support Russia. They also want to break off from America and rejoin Russia. They even signed White House petition for this. Google it.
ALASKANS DONT WANT TO BE PART OF RUSSIA. IT WAS A JOKE. THERE ARE MANY JOKE PETITIONS SUBMITTED TO THE WHITE HOUSE THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE.

3:27 Who's this guy think he is, a world war one pilot? LOL
Крым - Россия! Киев - Россия, Львов - Польша, Ужгород - Венгрия! Нет, не было и не будет никаких украин более!
It's amusing where all there protesters keep saying they're willing to fight...where were they when the Russians rolled into the Crimean peninsula? Personally I think what Russia did was wrong, but as a former US soldier that has watched 2 generations of our youth being committed to king making and Government building since I got out, I am tired of our kids being committed to wars overseas.
I don't think the Ukraine would stand a chance either, the Russian forces are alot different than when they rolled into Chechnya when Boris Yeltsin was president.
I honestly and truthfully wish the Ukraine luck and no more threats on their sovereignty, but not at our expense. ....and BTW, the Neo Nazis/Nationalist were already there, they were just waiting.
Majority of Crimea is Pro-Russia so there wasn't much resistance. Russians closed off the borders to prevents the radicals from coming in since the radicals are from the west but currently camp out in Kyiv. Russian local forces then took over the military bases and gave the Ukrainian marines a choice to stay or go.
v4rmru171 No arguement here, the majority are Russian anyways by way if the mass population shifts that was so emblematic of the Soviet era, Just like Stalin shipping off the whole populace of Chechnya, he also shifted populations around to minimize nationalism, and there is huge pockets of Russians virtually in every older 'SSRs, bedsides the fact of smaller break away nations also looking towards Russia for their very survival (S. Ossetia, Etc)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapons_and_Ukraine please do your research, nobody wants blood but false promises and trickery is what the USA is good at. Russia just broke the Budapest Memorandum and as for Britain they have their own little bubble and have lost their standing.
Yevgeniy Riley Im not saying the Russians are right, or wrong, if the US had a massive fleet just south of us in Mexico, do you think for a minute it would be in our interest to stand aside?....no, they have every right by treatise to protect their interest, additionally the Ukraine still holds a sizable nuclear arsenal....the "Pro Russian" populace is just a legacy of the Soviet era, Stalin virtually moved whole populations around the USSR to keep the majority to a minimum with a sizable Russian minority. South Ossetia, Ingustia ...there will be a Russian legacy in that part of the world for a very long time, The Bear IS the legacy of the eastern slavic base.
The US is just being hypocritical also, we have spent nearly 30 years since I left the military jumping into brush wars virtually everywhere in the world, we have played King Makers in Afghanistan and Iraq, government building as an aside, dictated foriegn policy by use of force ever since the early 90s...we have no right to talk.
Its about the principle and what happens next. How does one attempt to live a stable life in this world without cheating their way up to large amounts of money that lasts as long as the system lasts.
very interesting if chaotic transitional times. thanks for capturing this as it's happening
thank you vice for doing real journalism!

Crimea is Ukraine! Radical party is the best!
Tell me why is Crimea ukrainian land ? Any historical/spiritual argument ?
That Kat with snoopy helmet, legend!!!
"Crimea is Ukraine" ... gotta say, that was a very powerful chant.
Powerful hysteria, not powerful enough to return Crimea. ;-)
one chant doesn't change anything
Crimea is not Ukraine. It's Russia. The voters said so and they have that right. Self determination - it's a good thing. Molotov cocktail throwing, club wielding crazies and Anglo-Zionist engineered coups - no so much.
***** What the fuck does Zionism have anything to do with this?????
Where is the referendum for Chechnya?? Where is their Self determination?
The guy saying it looks like the pilot in the mummy
I don't see how this is propaganda in ANY way. Russian propaganda? No. NATO propaganda? No. This is showing both sides of the story. Maybe not equally in ever dispatch, but they are showing both sides.
I think Simon is one of Vice’s best journalists, give him all the funding
The main core of this protest was not a Crimea problem. People are gathered because few days ago Sashko Biliy (Сашко Білий) aka Oleksandr Muzychko, the member of Right Sektor, was killed in very strange situation. Officially minister Avakov told that Sashko was armed, and it was the special operation to arrest him and then he shoot first, then was wounded and then accidentally killed himself (there is still no any real proof of this).
The second version is that minister Avakov just send his people to kill Sashko Biliy. There is a very mood video from cctv cameras (its almost nothing can be seen there), report from the local police officers who don't know about this special operation, and the body found with 2 shoots in heart.
So one part of society start to thinking that Avakow works against the Ukraine, and kill the people with illegal methods or try to provoke a public mess and destabilization (btw when Maydan vote for new temporary government most of the people were not agree with his candidature as minister, but the government is pressed his candidature to people). And the second part of people start to thinking that the Sashko Biliy was real crime (he liked to walk everywhere with his AK-47 last time) and the Right Sektor works against the Ukraine and try to provoke mess and destabilization to take a reason for Putin's army occupy the rest of the Ukraine.
Next day after this crowd protest the special official public+government consequence group was organized. The results and all the process will be publicity known at Tuesday.
Guys, New Year Tree in central square is still standing?
I don't see why they insist on calling these videos the *invasion* of Ukraine. Why not *liberation*? I wonder whether Iraq was liberated or invaded in their opinion? I would prefer them calling it *turmoil* in Ukraine or something similar so I can make up my own opinion what it really is.
I often hear it referred to as the invasion of Iraq... I don't think I've heard a local news source call it liberation. Both instances by definition are invasions.
You can make up your own opinion about the invasion, but let's call things what they are.
Ok then let's make a documentary about Guantanamo and call it The Invasion of Cuba. Your opinion is that Ukraine was invaded, my opinion is that it fell apart and parts of it decided to separate just like many republics did in the USSR.
Point is, this title implies a political stance which is not neutral.
guitarbrother How is it a political stance? Invasion means a foreign army entering a territory. That has nothing to do with politics. Russian troops entered a region which was (at least at the time) a part of Ukraine, without the authorization of the Ukrainian government. That's called an invasion. Your favorable view of it doesn't change that fact.
And what does Cuba have to do with it? Is that all you can think about? If someone doesn't bow down to Putin and his bullshit he must be an American imperialist pig, right? Just how limited are you?
Mr. Smarty Pants
I don't see where I am limited, Mr. Smarty Pants. It can't be called an invasion if the troops were already there _legally_. The agreement was signed by Ukraine and Russia in 1997 to allow up to 25,000 Russian troops in Crimea. So boom, not an invasion.
Well this is one fucked up situation.
It sure is now.
great video, excellent job vice news.
These motherfuckers....made my day :D
Watching this Dispatch brings tears to my eyes. The Ukrainian people want order and they only have Chaos. The new Government needs to get its act together fast. Start doing meaningful reforms. The people are no longer willing to put up with corruption, that much is evident.
My Family is in Kremenchug, a four hour drive from the capital, but many young people have gone there to participate. And before people say that the "right" are fascist, what are they fascist against? Surely not Russian Speakers, because most people speak both languages. Are they fascist against Jews? The Prime Minister is Jewish. Who are they Fascist against?
People talk about Stephen Bandera when they discredit Ukrainians. Here is a snippet about Bandera:
"Stepan Andriyovych Bandera (Ukrainian: Степан Андрійович Бандера) (1 January 1909 - 15 October 1959) was a Ukrainian politician and one of the leaders of Ukrainian national movement in Western Ukraine. Bandera the leader of the Ukrainian nationalist movement which fought for Ukrainian independence.
Stepan Bandera was responsible for the proclamation of an Independent Ukrainian State in Lviv on June 30, 1941, eight days after Germany's attack against the USSR. Members of Bandera's Ukrainian nationalist movement thought that they had found a new powerful ally in Nazi Germany to aid them in their struggle against the Soviet Union.
Instead the Germany leadership arrested the newly formed government and sent them to concentration camps in Germany. Bandera was arrested and imprisoned by the Nazis until September 1944. Bandera was assassinated in 1959 by the KGB."
Does that sound like some fascist? The USSR was just as, or even more, oppressive and murderous than Hitler. They had two bad choices and he saw an opportunity to try to get help freeing themselves from a country (CCCP) who had just committed genocide against Ukrainians, killing over 7 million, only years earlier. Can we really judge him harshly for that?
Ukrainians deserve our support in their struggle.
Slave Ukraini.
dejanSLO84 when did Ukrainians do this?
Be specific.
***** what a constructive comment. Thank you.
***** Can you blame them? After all the genocide Russia perpetrated against them? Not to mention every election in Ukraine since it's split from the USSR was dictated by Russia. It's always a Russian point man. So fuck off. Ukraine has been raped enough by Moscow over the last century.
dejanSLO84 WTF are you talkin about? Russia is the one with the history of mass rape, genocide, gulags, war mongering, etc...

these people do not come because of the Crimea, but because of the new government that killed their colleague Muzychko
Where are they now?

Great video, im so happy vice covers this... Also nice haircut
This is ridiculous, at least the Crimean people had a vote as to what do to with their current government. Yet some how the current Ukraine government that was established through force from Neo-Nazis is some how legitimate? How does that make sense?
not all of the opposition are far right nationalist..you idiots love generalizing smh
Hurt Kobain
"Today, Svoboda holds a larger chunk of its nation's ministries (nearly a quarter, including the prized defense portfolio) than any other far-right party on the continent...Ukraine's deputy prime minister represents Svoboda...as does the prosecutor general and the deputy chair of parliament...one of its freshmen members of parliament is the founder of the "Joseph Goebbels Political Research Centre" and has hailed the Holocaust as a "bright period" in human history."
"the smaller, even more extreme "Right Sector" coalition fills the deputy National Security Council chair."
A quarter of the interim government are a from a literal nationalist party.
www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2014/03/18/yes_there_are_bad_guys_in_the_ukrainian_government
Hurt Kobain Of course the whole movement wasn't far right sector. However they're the ones that escalated the violence during the protest.
James Alvaren i didn't say there weren't far right nationalists in the opposition..i said NOT ALL were far right..reading comprehension lmao
Hurt Kobain
The ones that started the revolution were right nationalists, the ones fighting were right nationalists, and the party that gained the most seats that it didn't get in the election was right nationalist. Seeing as they are also still trying to take seats by force, I would say that they constitute a majority of the current opposition as well.
3:30 her facial expression is priceless lol
Why doesn't the western media show us the protest against the criminals in Kiev, as for that ex boxer, he needs to wake up and understand that the west are using him as punching bag.
He understands that don't worry. He is just wiling to do anything it takes to get political power.
Do people here not realise that since 1991 Russia and surrounding nations haven't been the Soviet Union? Why do so many people think that the Soviet Union is an alternative way to refer to Russia. I'm looking at you America!
I love how you completely neglected to mention why these protests took place
Why Simon? Why?
I recommend you watch the video again, but pay attention this time.
Mr BubbaSkeeter
I suggest you google Oleksandr Muzychko
He asked the protesters why they were there. Did you miss that part?
Monsignor This is about more than one man.
Mr BubbaSkeeter
No. That particular protest was about the assassination of Muzychko. It was why they were demanding that the interior minister step down and it was why they were there
Praviy Sektor were mainly protesting on this day for the interior minister's resignation due to the death of one of their leaders, Oleksandr Muzychko.
