This week, the Ukrainian military launched an anti-terrorist operation to quell the pro-Russia violence and unrest that has swept eastern Ukraine. VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky interviewed troops deployed in the operation at the border between Kharkiv and Donetsk, and then traveled to Kramatorsk, where pro-Russia protesters were attempting to take over an airfield. When Simon arrived, it seemed that the airfield was still under Ukrainian control, but the pro-Russia protesters were outside preparing to seize it. Once the head of the anti-terror operation appeared outside the base, the commander was accosted by the protesters until he retreated back inside - so much for his anti-terror operation.

What about the complete ignorance of the propaganda which Vice sent out at the end of the last dispatch which was proved to be false by almost all major news networks, even they apologized for their mistake, that shows how little Vice really cares for objectivity

    Side note, but important.
In my opinion, this has to be the
"best TH-cam video series" here by Vice that has ever been made/presented since the birth of such technology as TH-cam.
Being that in almost real-time, daily videos of actual "history in the making" can be viewed by a guy from Detroit, Michigan, USA, me. And how I'm able to follow such information through these videos that it makes one feel so invested and informed on this "history in the making" that's happening on the other side of the world is incredible.
It's a beautiful thing how far us humans have come.
PS. Thank you Vice for making that happen.

This is old news. We've known for the last month that Ukraine and Kiev are not in control anymore and Ukraine is in a state of decay, meaning in splitting up into smaller, more or less independent regions. There is nothing that Kiev can do about it. If the ukrainian police and authorities cannot be in control, then that part of the country is lost. And if the lack of action is a political decision, then it tells something about Ukraine. They keep telling that Ukraine is a sovereign state etc, but it seems that if the law and order is lost by their command or by lack of obeing command, then these areas are no longer any part of sovereign ukraine. I don't undestand why there was a need for a military operation and why they had to call it "anti-terrorist operation" as it's clearly internal matter and should have been handled by the police.
At this point, ukriane should raise their hands up and make the call that if different regions want to vote, let them vote and then just go with the flow.
Kiev has lost it's control and authority.

I'm simply enjoying the great footage regardless of its purpose. And what do they get for that?
      Nothing.
When Crimea got occupied, TV crew and unarmed Ukranian soldiers approached russian soldiers by slowly walking in order to make peace, to agree on some terms, russian soldiers fired in the air as soon as they saw them.

After reading so many comments that call for blood I felt compelled to create an account and give my modest contribution to this group of “tolerant, well informed, people and peace loving individuals”.
It truly scares me that so many of you call for blood and violence. You are so fast to judge without even trying to understand the conflict. And that makes you better than these “drunk Russians” that you are so eager to kill…and all that sitting in your comfy (most likely) USA chairs, drinking your beer and watching like it’s a game something that for so many people could be difference between life and death.
I don’t think you will ever understand that there is a world outside of the one you live in and not necessarily bad…just different. You see the world in your simplistic views. Russians and Ukrainians are whether you like it or not very similar people. They are just exhausted (both Russians and Ukrainians) with centuries of conflicts (not necessarily created by them), luck of jobs, life insecurities, all things that most of you take for granted living in a country that never saw kind of destruction that ravaged Europe many, many times.
No doubt USA is a super power but I don’t see them using peace language here (true representatives of the most “peaceful contributors” to this conversation)…that’s because they don’t care about people. For them it’s all about the money regardless who gets killed in the process. Sorry this is too long. I am just pissed and more so because I believe that you will never change!

Why would a military general allow himself to be pushed around like that? They are unarmed but come on, some authority and order would be nice to see, these civilians behaved really cocky, nowhere in the world could they do something like that.

i feel like ukraine should use at least a bit of force. The crowd was attempting to drag him somewhere. Doesn't that mean civilians used violence? Plus aren't the civilians trespassing? Do something Ukraine

Ukrainian government is using military against its own people... people are not happy... they dragged him for a second, but they let him go.

to Daniel M : your conception of democracy poses a problem. Real democracy (not western corporate illusion of democracy) as you've been watching on this film, is by the people & for the people. What you've been watching is democracy in action. Wether you like it or not. Hands off western imperialism !

why does putin support these "russian speakers" who protest in other countries but doesn't allow peaceful protests in his own country? ii keep waiting for someone to comment on this but i haven't heard it.
also, FREE SIMON! everyone was hating on this guy when this series first started. i'm glad everyone can see now that he's a great journalist. i hope everything turns out well with this crazy situation but if anyone could get out of this shit it's him!

Because he is a greedy cunning treacherous manchild. He wants those extra crumbs of land to his territory. And Crimea is of strategic importance. In winter it is the only warm water port for their navy when all the rest of their ports are frozen solid. He has nothing to gain by entertaining Russian protesters in his own country. But if he supports the russian speaking Ukrainians, he gets more goodies!
