As a mother of 4 children my husband and I both worked and ran the house the same way. Sunday batch cooking was done for the week. The house cleaned from top to bottom. Now that we are retired we still do the same things except we do it any day of the week. Give the fur babies a hug. Jane and Mike thank you for everything you two do to help people all around the world. 😊
I found myself nodding to everything!!! I still have my Sistema mugs that I took to school every day and I still use them. One of my freezers is currently full of different types of soup in those mugs, ready to pull out for a quick meal. And yep I still have an organiser calendar up on the kitchen wall! Old habits die hard!! 🙂
Wonderful tips Jane and Mike . My word you have led very busy lives. The only tip I have find works so well for me is up every morning at 6.00 except Sunday ! Shop as early as you can. Lidl opens at 8.00 and my local Tesco opens at 7.00. This means you can park quickly and fly through the isles. I use the scanner they provide in Tesco so no queue at the checkout! Thank you both so much. Your positive upbeat attitudes are very uplifting 🙏🙏🙏🙏
As I have said before I am 75 so a different generation. My dad got up first buttered bread made tea and fried 3 eggs for breakfast, mum gran me and my brother had half an egg on a slice of bread, dad had double, with a cup of tea. Dad brought us this in bed every week day morning, then we got up washed dressed and got out either to school or work. Breakfast cereal was to expensive.
Absolutely agree with everything you have said. I did all of this as well or my week was garbage as a mother of 4 and working full time as a primary school teaching and my husband being a dairy farmer. There were never enough hours in a day or days in a week. I am loving your channel and have only recently found it to watch.
Oh me too I still use my systema containers & use them for frozen soups but also batch cook 2 - 3 days porridge & pop in the "soup" containers. Ideal as I can reheat when I want them. Ditto things like stews & casseroles 1 to eat, 1 for the fridge 1 (or more) for the freezer. I did very similar routines, daily but my dishwasher, washing etc. went on 1st thing in the morning as we had solar - then put washing on the line if possible or the rack if it wasn't - dry when I got home & mostly free 😁T.
My new (to me) slow cooker is my new best friend. I work Tue - Fri, so batch cook on a monday. I'll have something in the slow cooker whilst I do other things on the hob. I freeze a lot of things so I can take what I need out in the morning and it's defrosted by the time I get home. Batch cooking things like a basic tomato sauce and freezing it in portions helps - especially when I did shift work and had no guaruntee off finishing on time. It can then be used for a variety of things, or thinned down as a base for soup. On another note, working in a PRU is HARD work - hats off to you for being able to be so organised alongside such a demanding job
In the past i worked 9 to 7, 4 days a week. I would be famished when i got home so i would heat up what i cooked the night before. After a small rest i would cook for the following night. Now i check the freezer and plan for the next 2 days so i can thaw what i need. I freeze in plastic bowls and transfer to glass for work so the plastic doesn't have to go in the microwave
I love your tips Jane! My family has been sick this week with bad colds. I made a huge pot of chicken soup, and the next day a big pot of enchilada beef soup. It's been so nice to have the soup made up. I have cooked a few other things week, but mostly we ate the soup while we were sick.
Perfectly timed! I’m listening as I prep foods for work today and items for the fridge 😂 Egg bites in the oven cooking while I plan out today’s lunchbag
I was a stay at home mom. Just keeping up with cooking, cleaning and raising the kids was a challenge! My daughter works and seeing her juggle every thing with work and the kids just so hard. We help out what we can. Your suggestion are spot on.
My husband and I worked opposite shifts When I worked afternoons I had supper made and housework done When I worked days my girls would make supper I would tell them what to cook
I relied on my crockpot, frozen chk thrown in in the morning or stew, to be honest seemed to survive, my kids were latch key kids, it would be against the law today, they all grown now and are thriving, I made sure I got up early to get things done 😊
Your organization sounds very good. I know my mom used to organize everything as well although she didn’t have a full-time job outside the house, she had our family with father and 3 kids and she always looked after her parents and my dad’s parents. Also my father’s sister lived with us and she had a full-time job during the day and also gave gymnastic classes in the evening and my mom cleaned houses for two days a week. I have always been single without kids and did have a full-time job, but I love to eat easy meals like bread with eggs or cheese, make some easy pasta or eat some rice with stir-fried veggies. I’m not a big meat eater but I do like fish now and then. My meals are not complete to most people’s standards because quite often the meat is missing or I eat just fish with vegetables, so mainly my meals contain only 2 ingredients instead of 3. I have never been very organized, more likely to be called chaotic 😂, but that is easy if you live alone. I’m not a great cook like you and since I got heavily depressed my house looks very chaotic as well lots of the time, but I’m always trying to get as organized as you ❤.
I do batch cooking so there is always something to eat in the freezer; I also lowered my standards and never wax our tile floors - a bit of a shocking result at first but they look fine without it. Just a note that leclerc is giving 50% off the purchase of 2 containers of specific laundry soap now. combined with 2 promotional coupons of -2 euros/container; I have enough soap to wash 80 loads of wash for 9 euros; just over 11 CENTS / load.
Im much younger than you but live by your tips. Can't live without our family calendar, batch cooking, slow cooker and I am proud owner of multiple systema mugs 😂 I am a working mum to 2 boys, my afternoons and weekends are packed with football trainings, swimming etc. I have to be organised, its like militarily mission 😂
Jane it always surprises me how similar our work lives has been. I work in an SEMH school as maths lead (not English), I also marked exam papers and did private tutoring
Living on my own, I still make wholesome soups in large batches. I don't mind eating the same thing several days running. But my absolute rule is that the last serving ALWAYS goes in the freezer. Then when life does not go quite according to plan, I have something I can pull out , microwave and enjoy
I used to do a lot of these things when my kids were still at home. Now, sometimes I will double the casserole or chili And freeze half for those extra busy days or for those low energy days. Great video Jane. What is a PRU?

We have the wall organiser up in the office and I love my online reminders
Absolutely brilliant advice and wish I'd heard this 20 years ago! Thank you so much for sharing these ideas. I'm going to get organised!

We used to have frosties as part of our Christmas treat, that's how rare cereals were
How lovely to be brought breakfast in bed by your dad.
Slow cooker dump bags are a must 👍 for hectic weekdays
Yes they are!

Thank you. It was the best seven years of my teaching career.

Great job!
Great ideas, thank you Dolly, Mary, Jane and Mike.
@@Sandra-s3p thank you
Yay Sistema, from here in New Zealand. Very good quality stuff, lasts for ages.
The best!
Much respect you are a great example teaching us things not taught today.
My pleasure

@FrugalQueeninFrance Thank you!

I worked full time all my parenting years. It's a juggling act.
My husband and I worked opposite shifts
When I worked afternoons I had supper made and housework done
When I worked days my girls would make supper
I would tell them what to cook
@cathybooth290 it made it easier for me that my husband did and does half the house work
Great organization ideas
Thank you 😊

And they survived
Nice one thanks for sharing that ❤
My pleasure 😊
I break up housework into small jobs. Definitely plan a menu for the week.
@pkmat6786 thanks for watching

Great tip! I shall look for that. I was so focused on getting coffee on sale this week
Yes I’ve and do most of those things. I especially planned easy quick meals when I had no time . Many times I’ve cooked ahead. Great tips!!
Great job!
