    To all of you out there going through the potty training process and feeling like you have hit a wall and struggling to find the energy to get through this for both you and your child, listen to this please.
    Remember that you are strong and can endure this process. It’s going to be a tough road to travel but hang on because truly it’s going to be a short period that will be paying off ten fold once your child slowly gets it down. There will be many failed attempts before you find the secret sauce but you will find it. Celebrate any behavior that they learn that gets them that much closer to gaining that independence of using the bathroom on their own. Keep in mind that if you’re getting frustrated your child is probably frustrated too. Allow yourself a few moments to regroup and calm down. You’re doing it for both of you. Children only want to please so try not to take their frustration or outburst personal and as emotions run high allow yourself that checked out minute or two to regroup and when you are jumping back in, reinforce your love for them and they will start to get in tune with what is being taught. Repetition works. This is a slow and steady race. Soon you’ll see both of your efforts will provide the lifelong success.
    Lastly give yourself grace.

    WOW, it took years but you did it... That's insane dedication, y'all are amazing!! I see so many autistic adults who still are in diapers and its so depressing to realize they fully could be trained as a child, but their parents couldn't stick with it. They probably tried a few months and thought "it's hopeless, our kid can't be potty trained" but it's not true. Y'all invested a couple years but it totally paid off bc now you won't need to buy and change diapers for decades. Just discovered your channel and been watching a few videos. Y'all are approaching all this so logically and intelligently which is not true for most parents.

    My son turns 4 this June and lately I’ve been thinking about ways I could possibly start with him. Because he is under the spectrum as well and nonverbal. I absolutely love your patience and the amount of times you said you had to reinforce over and over. I too, am constantly trying to stay and calm as long as he’s comfortable and okay it should not even be much of a struggle as it is for us than it is FOR THEM! They are definitely amazing in their own way. Your story definitely sounds like a challenge but I honestly believe they would totally eventually catch up to us and try and try as well. Thank you for sharing you gave me hope after being depressed as to HOW DO WE DO THIS?!!!!! Amazing!👏🏻

    I really needed to hear this!! My son is also autistic and three. He’s speaking but not in sentences and he does not communicate if he has to go potty we just take him every 30 min and he’s pretty good about that but, he doesn’t care either if he’s peed or pooped, need to try the briefs soon!! Thank you!!!

      i have the same issue , my son is 3 and i have been trying to potty train him for the past 5 months or so, if you take him to the bathroom to pee he will but he wont tell you when he wants to go, he isn't non verbal but he doesn't communicate when he wants to relieve himseld and he doesn't interact , he will pull you for anything else he wants but not for potty activities. He counts, says his abc says a whole lot of different words but he doesn't respond to you most times when you speak to him nor can he interact nor communicate with full or proper sentences. He pretty much repeats words randomly and he sings. It is has been frustrating to say the least. I am determined to press on though.

    Great tips!! And I love the part you said about kids developing differently and that they may not be ready at age 3, or 4, or even 5! That's so true!! I read something the other day that said something like "popcorn kernals all go into the same temperature oil, but they all pop at different times". Same is true for kids, they aren't going to get it until they're ready!! My oldest son was pretty much potty-trained by age 3 (though he's almost 5 and we still have accidents every now and then). My youngest is 3 now and he shows no signs of being ready. I'm okay with that too!! We'll wait til he's ready! So proud of Christian! That's such a huge step of Independence!!

      @@rameetahuja yes, we predicted which times of day he wanted to go number 1. And as a father, I decided to go with him during those exact times and tried to make it exciting for him (usually first thing in the morning). I did this by encouraging him before and praising him after. In some cases we offered cookies or low sugar lollipops after he did what he was supposed to do.
      Eventually, he went on his own to do number 1 and then later on, number 2. Now we are working on wiping. Please be mindful that not all children are the same even if they are on the same level of the spectrum.

    Thank you so much for this video 😭 a lot of these videos I see make it seem like 1…2…3. I beat myself up for not doing what all of the world was suggesting such as putting my 4 year old on the toilet every 30 minutes because I’m a single mom and I have a daughter as well so doing that and trying to manage the household and retain energy and patience was detrimental to my mental health. However I am now in a place where I feel like I can take this on with Gods grace and your video truly made me not feel so guilty for not being ready sooner. My son still isn’t interested in using the bathroom on his own consistently but he will be 5 so I wanna try and see what progress can be made with ABA. You can do it, try not to stress, my son was also fully potty trained the summer after he turned 5, # 1 wasn’t much of an issue for us but was inconsistent at times, #2 was what took forever it was rough but we got there. I hope you dont mind me chiming in. I know its easy not to stress but if your stressed it may make him worse. I would also say be consistent ( But also know its ok to take breaks), try not using pull ups during the day either ecspecially if your home ( I put a tarp on the couch to protect it) and then gradually try that when out. Potty books are really important, and anything that distracts them to stay on the potty. I found w us giving him independence with it really helped, i tried not to be too intense. The day he got it he was in the bathtub by himself he got out to do his business i was so surprised. Be patient and know he will get it in his own time. I hope this helps.

It was a long journey to get him to finally potty train and believe me all your tips are being very helpful for us to fulfill that goal. 👏👏👏👏 the only thing we have been struggling is when we go out to public places or a long drive we still have to put him on diapers because since he doesn’t talk I haven’t find a way for him to communicate and let me know when he needs to go to the potty. I have been trying to use the sign language for potty, but still no success any advise? I appreciated it 🙏

    • @ROCKNSTIMS
      @ROCKNSTIMS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a hard one. I would always just take him every time we got to where we were going and also right before leaving. I would be stressed but that was what we a had to do. We Just made sure he went every 30-45 min. For long road trips I still had him in pull ups for a while. This last road trip I made sure he didn’t have lots of liquid and we stopped every 1.5- 2 hours to potty. My advise would be to try to have him point to a toilet pic if he needs to go. I would make sure to have him sign or choose the picture even if he doesn’t do it independently, just to try to get the repetition down so hopefully one day he will do it 💙
      Even if he doesn’t tell you with words you can also look for the signs like (potty dance,hyper,fidgety)

    How did you dedicate so much time to take him every 5 minutes or 10 minutes? At home does he have open access to the bathroom without an adult? I am afraid to let my son roam the house so we have a gate in the playroom. He elopes all the time and will go out the doors leading to outside. He can open doors even with child locks on them...

    • @ROCKNSTIMS
      @ROCKNSTIMS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was extremely hard and not something I would recommend now. I think every 15 min is the shortest time in between I would do but 30 min to an hour is usually good. He does have access to bathroom without an adult at all times. Have you looked into getting Chain locks that are high enough for him not to reach ? Eloping out the house is such a scary and dangerous situation. I’m very fortunate that my son never tried leaving the house but he has tried eloping in public.
