Of what i can remember, i really loved akiza's character. too bad she got screwed due to real life events about the cult and the writers not being savvy enough (they Could have turned Crow into the equialent of Darth Vader/Vegeta, (AND make him more popular in the process)and give him a cool redeeming arc, while keeping akiza as an important character)
Episode 1 till episode 110 Yugioh 5ds is almost perfect a solid 9 out of 10. After episode 110 it seems to be average at best. Things i wish happened: 1. Crow should have been the final villain of the Dark Signers arc 2. Crow should have been in the fortune cup arc but left early due to some reasons 3. Akiza should have had a more prominent role in team 5ds and crow should not have been in it, the team should be yusei, jack & akiza not crow. 4. After team 5d's beats team unicorn then Yusei should join the team of Sherry Leblanc who should get a better role, after that have kalin fill in for yusei in team 5d's then we would have to see akiza & jack develop under kalin's leadership without yusei's presence and yusei is instead with sherry & her partner
Her being sent to the backseat might be the greatest writing crime in anime history to be honest. She is hands down one of the most, if not the most, interesting yugioh character.
I would love to see a Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's movie that takes place after the series ended with Aki in the main spotlight, quite similar to Seto Kabia in The Dark Side of Dimensions.
One thing I didn't like was that they stripped Akiza of her powers. I liked her controlling her powers in the filler episodes. She really was the muscle of the team who brings the brute destructive power that is needed. Like how she breaks open the truck holding Yusei or how when that biker drives at her she smashes him with her dragon.
@@lampad4549 It really didn't give her any sort of role. Before she had kind of a role as the muscle of the group which also was kind of a fun twist having the fragile girl be the strongman.
The ending of 5Ds where Aki just doesn't say anything to Yusei was a crime! Like, give us something to be happy for! It was so damn obvious that they liked each other! XD
It’s theorized that they kissed in that scene when they close their eyes and the way they let go their hands kinda supports it. Regardless if they kissed there I bet they got together later anyway
I liked 5ds and I liked the more mature tone of the anime. I like the plant deck it was a really good archetype. Yusei was also a great male protagonist after Jaden
@@StealthNinja4577 No he wasn't the only good Yugioh was Yugi, Jaiden, Yusei, and Yusaku Jaiden went through alot in Gx Jaiden was the Goku in gx until he was forced to mature and lost his love of dueling after his fight with Yubel in season 4 Jaiden changed he's depressed avoiding his friends lost his love for duel only dueling if he has to ( until he regains hes love for dueling it after his duel with Yugi ) Basically Gx is a coming of age story and its great.
such a shame her story got screwed due to that controversy. and the writers didn't got savvy about Crow (they could have gave him a redemption storyline, where Jack, Yusei, Akiza, and even Carly helpped him, and pretty much turn Crow into the equivalent of Vegeta in 5D´s, with his redemption and populatiry). Is there a way you can mention how that scenario of having a character with a popular deck in real life is repeating with Blue Angel and Ghost Girl? (the trickstars and Altergesit are becoming very popular in both TCG and OCG). Or that scenario where The Manga, save the original one (and maybe ZEXAL) always follows a completey different story compared t the anime?

sofar i'd say that Aki is CLEARLY the best female lead in the franchise. and yes 5d's is my personal favorite series in the franchise. as for why i love aki so much, well it boils down to the fact that in the anime aki gets a great deal of character depth and growth, and with only one exception, she never needed to be physically rescued. heck what i really enjoyed, was seeing Aki take charge of yusei's rescue midway through the pre WRGP arch. talk about a reversal of the damsel in distress trope. she was just a real bad ass character, even if she was pushed to the side more in the second half of the series
Wel Akiza would have been that female lead, if it weren't for that real life controversy of the cult, and the writers not getting savvy about Crow's development (they could have let him be the final Dark signer, And give him a really cool redeeming arc. and keeping aki as an important character, while developing crow). Frotunately, with the Trickstars being a really popular AND META deck, there is a chance we can get that strong female lead in Aoi Zaizen/Blue angel
I really enjoyed this. I never read the manga for 5Ds, but by the sounds of it, I prefer her anime personality more. Aki struggled a lot more and overcame her demons. In the other, she was worshipped like a goddess. While that isn't bad, it just seemed lacking more. That's just me.
Her anime counterpart put her manga counterpart to shame, I don't hate her in the manga. Even though Akiza (Aki) turned to a cheerleader because Crow came into the picture, she's still a amazing character in our eyes, long live the Black Rose Queen! I love the part where Dylan said "Step aside Yusei, Jack's next in line for the queen!", I do remember Sect, the little bug boy who went evil thanks to the Skeleton Knight. Red hair or Magenta hair, I'm gonna say.....magenta hair.
Things you missed: In the manga, she was originally from a psychic academy together with Sherry, and her abandoning for another academy is what led to their rivalry. She already has her license at the start of the manga and, humorously enough, uses her anime riding duel suit at school but her normal clothes during the competition.
Great debut episode I loved it.Aki is one of my favourite female protagonists I love both versions of her but I suppose the anime version wins out by a little because of her back story and character development. Keep up the good work can't wait until the next episode
Unfortunate that Konami actually cut out 23 episodes overall from 5'Ds during production,, 12 of which were supposed to delve into her backstory even more.
That's due to the fact they were gonna tackle Aki'z backstory of being part of a cult. unfortunately, a member of the staff of 5D's turned out to be part of a real life cult. so they sacrified aki's development in the process to avoid controversy
If I maybe a little bit honest, Akiza became my second favourite Yugioh character after Joey Wheeler. I just felt sorry for her and wanted to see her overcome her past. I do admit she took a back seat after the dark signers arc but to be fair I've heard that 5ds was suppose to finish after the Dark Signers arc so I'm not to torn up about it. I still rewatch 5ds anime from time to time and the duels between Yuesi and Akiza remain two of my favourites of the all Yugioh series. Still good video.
Aki/Akiza was always a really well crafted character, loved the dark backstory. I know that her character went south in Season 3, but that was probably partly due to the rewrite of Crow becoming the 3rd main character. Still love her though, and smoking hot. And 5Ds is the best, love it loads
Yuzu/Zuzu to me is 2nd only to Aki. I loved the way she was portrayed in the first season of Arc-V as a hot-tempered girl with an elegant and passionate dueling style. I do think the recent episodes have taken a wrong turn with her by making her weaker and getting less development. Hopefully she'll do something amazing before the show ends to really earn that ranking. (And support the Melodious archetype!)
Can someone tell me if I should watch ArcV? I started the first two episodes but I'm not digging action dueling nor do I understand it. I'm just wondering if it get like immensely better if I suffer through the first few episodes?
Kasem Salim Of the 3 seasons of Arc-V my opinion is that the first was the best one. The new characters are quite easy to get attached to and play fun decks. Action Dueling isn't actually that hard to understand either: an Action Field powered by the new Real-Solid Vision technology spawns several Action Cards around the field to assist duelists in pinch scenarios. Season 1 actually varies the Duel Arenas spectacularly, but the later Seasons drop that in favor of "Cross Over", bleh. Arc-V's main protag, Yuya, is an aspiring entertainer who believes dueling should be for fun first and foremost. I love how meta that theme is due to how drastic the stakes have gotten in Yugioh shows over a simple card game. I like the sort-of "Gen War" (Dimensional War) plot too. It's a very different take on Duel Academy. I think you should watch at least 15 eps. before deciding whether to drop it or not. Hope you like it!
I still enjoy going back sometimes and rewatch certain parts of 5Ds. Among them the very early stuff, the parts with Aki, dark signer arc and the very final duel with Z-ONE. 5Ds remains my favorite YGO series, and Aki my favorite female character.
I prefer the anime version of her character. In the anime she’s this scared kid who is hated due to powers and is brought into a guilt and groomed to be noting more then a solider by a possessive creep, she hates the world for mistreating her but later on after she meets Yusei and the others she goes from the bitter kid to a sweet but still powerful woman. In the Manga she just kind of has it made and ultimately becomes a damsel in distress.
She’s like the Gaara of Yugioh. Sad backstory, feels like their abilities are a curse, both have redemption arcs with help from the main characters, and both deserved more screen time
If there were to be a futurism finale series of YGO, it would be exhilarating to base it around the main protagonists from all other series', including the potentiality of the upcoming series. The plot could symbolize a concatenation, such as each characters attributes, how they are linked and what brought them together, and for what purposes. Of course this is argumentative and is *my opinion* :)

Contains spoilers: I did warn you.... Read the manga online and I could say most characters outta there are too lame and kinda repetitive.... Like Yusei liking to duel and not showing his tech side... Aki being queen of a duel school... Jack too obssesive over power and he is pretty brutal just like kaiba... and most character roles are changed as well.... I am thankful to the production team that they changed the storyline but I would request a reboot... cause many great were not done because of issues of the cult... I love carly but hated her va (voice actress) after what she had caused.... because of her, carly was pushed out and the storyline got boring after dark signers arc
If it weren't for Carly's seiyuu, there is a chance Carl would have reained an important character (and pleasing Jackx Carly Shippers), and Akiza would not have lost her arc against the cult. Such a tragedy. Another reason to love Akiza is that her seiyuu has been part of the Sentai Franchise as DekaYellow (SPD Yellow's sentai counterpart) and as a ranger in Kyoruger.
Really great video, Dylan! I'm glad that my vote for Aki was the popular one. I don't think her character really got weaker after her duel with Yusei, but just after her final duel with Misty. I think it was so cool how she beat Yusei in the Manga! But I have to agree, I think she was much better in the Anime, and that her story is deeper. She has so much personal growth in the Anime, going from a girl that hated everything to someone that saved lives as a doctor. Once again, great video! Can't wait to see the next one in this series
As someone who never read the manga (didn't even know 5Ds had a Manga), I expected the Manga to be better and yet . . . it sounds shitter than the shafting Aki had in the Anime.
If you think about it, Sherry also got shafted too in the Anime. These Yugioh writers are really miserable at consistently making female characters good.

Something funny about Aki in the original Japanese series is that her voice actress played ANOTHER psychic character. She played the character Jasmine on Tokuso Sentai Dekaranger. And that girl too had a dark and tragic past due to her powers. She could touch someone and read their minds, and emotions. But it became too much and she almost tried to get herself killed. And Dekaranger aired before 5ds so yeah, I think that they cast her because she had experience with this character type.
I've read through the 5D's Manga itself fully, finishing it in December last year though, and actually I thought that she did have some feelings for Yusei in the manga, she was just fairly better at hiding them. But that's my opinion and I respect your opinion for Akiza's feelings in the Manga. And love the comparing series
One similarity that you missed is Aki went to a psychic duel academy in the manga just like in the anime. A few differences is that Sherry went to the same academy and unlike her anime counterpart she left before the manga started because she wanted to enjoy dueling and did not want to use her power as a weapon. Another difference is she doesn't start riding duel until later in the anime where her manga counterpart already knows how to duel in the manga. Aki in the anime is definitely better. She has developed so much from a bullied kid to a psychic witch to a hero.
After the Dark Signers Arc didn't Akiza go back to duel academy for a bit, have a mini-arc about becoming a turbo duelist, and then replace Crow for part of the WRGP?
She did! Kind of skipped over that part and went straight to the Crow/Sherry duel. Didn't want to spend 7-8 mins just talking about her anime backstory!
The anime vs manga series was a great idea Dylan, I really enjoyed this video and can't wait to see the next one. I've always liked Akiza in the anime, I haven't read the manga yet so I can't say how much I would like her in the manga. I do agree that she took a little of a back seat after the dark signers arc. I do like when she tried to save Yusei from the back of that truck on the episode when Sherry was first introduced. Her and Tea are the only female characters that got to save or stand up for the male protagonist ( Tea's moment being her dueling Mai in Yugi's place in duelist kingdom.) Jack also stood up for Akiza on the episode when she got her turbo duelist license, I remember he beat up the three guys that tried to ruin her duel.
Yugioh Everything Jack may be her bodyguard but Yusei still gets her love and attention. Jack still has good luck with the ladies though, Carly, Mina, and the girl from the coffee shop all love him.
i have only seen around half of duel monsters ,gx and 5ds (grew up with 4kids thats why) haven't red the manga but seeing these videos it appears that in manga romantic feelings arent that acknowledge but in anime they show obvious hints
Aki is pretty much my favorite character in all of YGO. Her backstory and character development are incredible, and I was often moved to tears. And her dueling - her duels with Yusei and Sherry are absolutely iconic. I really, truly wish she wasn't pushed to the backburner in the second half of the show. I read a while ago that she was initially planned to have Crow's tritagonist role but his popularity (i.e. his archetype brining in massive $$$) meant that Konami put him there. I imagine the scandal that happened when it was revealed that Carly's voice actress was part of a sex cult had an impact too, since Konami decided to jettison or retcon most of the cult elements so they could save themselves for more backlash had a huge impact on Aki's arc, too. I would've loved for her to get closure about everything that happened with Sayer and Arcadia. Maybe I'll be lucky and stumble across canon fixfic of that some day...
Cannot wait for you to cover the rest of main characters. I have read the pre-fight with grandpa episodes in Yugi to some extent and can say Yami is far more accurrate a name for Atem then one might guess. Jaden was the cause of it all in anime but manga mentions a mentor that the red jersey is from that was taken by dark forces. you covered where I got to in 5D's by mentioning her first match with yusei.
In the dubbed version, Jack Atlas was the closest to saying that Akiza loves Yusei in the episode where she and Jack were looking for Yusei. And I think I remember reading somewhere (I'm pretty sure it was the Japanese voice for Yusei and/or Akiza) saying that after the end of the 5Ds series, the two did get married.

I was already aware of some of the difference between anime/manga Akiza but there were somethings I didn't know like her being a sacrifice to an evil deity and such. Akiza was my favorite character from 5ds. I heard rumors about a plan of her dueling Sayer which is very unfortunate that it didn't happen as it would have been amazing to see. Sayer is kind of what Akiza could have been if Yusei didn't come into her life. I think Sayer has a very tragic past as well.

How does the voice actor of one character joining a sex cult affect plans for other characters dueling? There's not enough points to connect the dots for me here.
Storywise the two are pretty close. Also having it dubbed just makes more impact. Just like a movie will make more impact than a book will even if the book has a stronger story. Also Akiza's story in both versions is pretty much the same. It's weaker in the dub version but the story itself isn't any different. The first series did have major changes but the later ones had far fewer. Also the dub names are far easier to remember. Finally the dub is more aimed at 12 year old instead of the original's 16 year olds. Many really exaggerate the differences and they are actually quite few. In Zexal everything is about identical. Many of the speeches are even pretty much identical, word for word.
I've seen both as well and while some of the dialogue choices for Nasch are a bit questionable I think the Archlight brothers were done almost perfectly. That speech that IV makes towards Vetrix was one of the most moving ones ever. III dialogue was I think the weakest but V was very strong as well. One very strange thing though is that their real names were never mentioned in the dub except for V. I love their European names of Daniel and Thomas. There seems to be also a problem of culture. When it's about christian ideas of love, trust, charity and humility 4kids tends to do fine. But when it goes towards more Bushido ideas of loyalty, honor and truth they tend to stumble.
It's not a judgement or anything but just something I've noticed. Western values they tend to do very well. The Archlight brothers arc was done almost perfectly.
Not trying to sound nitpicky here, Dylan, but your poll should have displayed "Rua (Leo)" in order to be more consistent with the other three options. What do I think about this new series? I like it a lot. I do not see other channels (that I know of) doing this sort of thing. Keep it going! Also, which of your friends are going to play as Kaiba and Jack? Are they just going to do ten rounds on YGOPro and report the score card back to you or will you include quick highlights in that video? Will the video include their respective deck recipes as well?
the reason there are 6 signers is because crow stole leos role as a signer due to the popularity of black wing decks. This is why life stream dragon is shown as one of the 5 Signer Dragons while Black wing dragon is not. Leo was then given his rightful place but this ended up creating a place for leo rather then passing it on.

I dont care what anyone says but Akiza will always be my favorite Female lead withon the yugioh universe. I just wish that the 5ds series could have continued on for at least one more season.
Oh yeah, I agree with you with Aki, since 5D's and until this day she has the first spot in my topten female Yugioh characters and no one, i repeat NO ONE will be take that spot from her, also, i love her so much that I draw her as a female boxer and that she is my waifu, and no other female characters from ANY other anime hastaken one spot, only two have reach her but not surpass her.
If you choose Rex Goodwin, will you compare him to Z-One or to his anime counterpart ? /!\ SPOILERS /!\ I ask because the final duel with Goodwin in the manga looks like the duel with Z-One (the 6 dragons are summoned, Yusei performs a level 12 accel-synchro and he wins with a combined attack including each dragon).
This was really interesting! Despite having not read any Yugioh manga (yet), I heard that Aki's manga counterpart was like polar opposite to her anime version. I do agree that her character development and backstory does seem better than her manga counterpart. I do like characters that go through that change from bad to good. As for who I'd like to see next.... Probably the King himself: Jack Altas.

Anime Aki is a Gundam character (particular from Gundam SEED) and a Yu-Gi-Oh female lead combined in one package: - Anime Aki = Cagalli + Shinn + Lunamaria - Manga Aki = Flay + Lunamaria
Aki was total awesome till later on she can only pull of one real win & that's with Crow [which is just lame] but she is probably the best [not my favorite but probably one of the best] cool video can't wait till the next
Aki not having much to do after the Dark Signers arc was the unfortunate mix of the writers of the anime planning to end the series at the Dark Signers arc, hence why it felt like such a proper conclusion, along with other problems. The Black Wing archtype sold really well so Crow was mandated by Konami to get more screen time, at Aki's expense. The potential Aki could have gotten from going after Arcadia was also lost thanks to a real life cult in a Japan and the anime writers felt using a cult in a plot would be a bad case of "too soon." Either way Aki was still a huge improvement over previous female characters by virtue of actually getting to do stuff alone. Her not having feelings for Yusei in the manga sounds like an improvement to me since her having feelings for him in the anime never went anywhere. I am really sick of seeing that.
I'm just gonna come out and say it, Anime Akiza is way better than Manga Akiza, one hundred percent. She may not have been able to predict what cards she was gonna draw and play, but she could still bring them to life, and had a well thought out and heartbreaking backstory that made almost everybody everywhere fall in love with this chick. Heck, even Yusei got to share some cute romance scenes with her in the Anime where in the Manga they were just buds, and it really sucked that she didn't fall in love with Yusei in the Manga, especially when those 2 are the best Yugioh couple ever in the show. Heck, even Sebastian from the little Mermaid, at this point would be all like "Dude, seriously, just take your chance and kiss the girl.".
Yugioh Everything sweet, also have you ever considered reviewing the fan series Revalations of the Orichalcos. It starts REALLY cringey but gets better as it goes. I only suggest it because it's probably long running enough for it.

There's nothing positive about it. I'll explain later in detail. I enjoyed this Yugioh series the most compared to any other Yugioh series I've seen (i.e. Duel Monsters, GX). I've heard mixed feelings towards the other Yugioh series with people claiming them to be subpar and less mature in a way or some of the best Yugioh shows as another perspective. So after finishing 5Ds, I immediately went into Zexal to see what it's about. I've so far seen the first two episodes, but I'm not really interested in it so far (nonetheless, I'll see more into it as I know the beginning of the other Yugioh series usual start lackluster [except 5Ds for me]). I hate how there's never any serious continuity with any of these Yugioh shows. It always feels like just another reset where the past series' main characters and their influence in their world are all irrelevant or nonexistent in relationship with the subsequent Yugioh series. I didn't expect 5Ds to be my favorite Yugioh series. I liked many characters in this show and admired how some were handled to an extent beyond my expectations. I know for sure though that none of the main characters really reached close to their full potential. Yusei is nearly a Gary Stu the entire show winning almost every duel. He usually delivers miracles and saves the fate of his friends whenever he can. It's quite a problem especially because he never really develops much during the main storylines. Most of the main characters remain static except for the likes of Akiza and Jack who changed significantly between the first two seasons. For the sake of supplementing tension, Yusei should have lost more duels to make him seem less like an unbeatable duelist when his duels came to fate, destiny, or his friends. As the stakes got higher, it was easier to comprehend how unlikely it was for Yusei to lose, knowing how much would be lost if he did. So if Yusei were to lose more naturally, the plot would need to be changed as an accommodation because most of his duels are too important to lose. Yusei's teammates undoubtedly could have easily been primed to recoup some of Yusei's extensive dueling glory that he accumulated in the other seasons. Akiza absolutely needed a better role than what she received in most of the seasons. There is no reason for her best individual duels to have been from the first two seasons. I know about Crow's marketable deck (made the writers give him a lot more focus than other characters) or how Carly's former Japanese voice actress's occult conspiracy affected possible important character arc stories (regarding the psychic Arcadia Movement and Dark Signer occult implications) for Akiza and Carly's character herself, but that doesn't excuse their extremely diminishing roles in the later seasons whatsoever. There were plenty of opportunities to improve or invest in making her character more important! The main writer who took over after the first two seasons finished, admitted to preferring writing male characters more than female characters... that can pathetically explain why he continuously kept having Yusei win duel after duel and relegated Akiza as a benchwarmer (when she was shown in the show's 5th season's ending song, she was literally referred to as her team's benchwarmer [Aki Izayoi--Team 5D's Benchwarmer]). (Akiza was given only one 1vs1 duel between Episodes 65-154)! When Akiza was inspired to go through with turbo-dueling, it seemed like she was on her way towards meaningfully contributing to the general turbo duel-bots plot or Grand Prix tournament. Of course, her time spent being a turbo duelist was never provided with any worthwhile pay-off. The writers hardly defined her character meaningfully within the main plots of the last three seasons and miserably established her more into a supporting character role rather than a main character role like Yusei, Jack, and Crow. When I was watching the Grand Prix tournament episodes, Akiza's lack of importance was especially highlighted throughout that arc. Her one-liners and awkward facial expressions are ever so reminiscent of Bastion's portrayal during Yugioh GX's second season and onwards. No decent character deserves to be written the way Bastion gets treated in Yugioh GX's other seasons. Eventually, around the middle of season 4, I realized how unusual it was to leave out Yusei's Satelite friends out of any sort of plot. Even including not being featured in any of the abundant filler/slow-episodic episodes. They were heavily important for Yusei's character and the story across the first two seasons. So I realized why wasn't Yusei ever thinking back in retrospect the friends he had at the satellite? Yusei's new team of friends consisting of Akiza, Crow, Jack, Leo, Luna, Bruno, etc. have all meaningfully established a new, greater unique bond with him, but again, Yusei's Satellite friends should have been dealt with through closure, not as forgotten/written-off characters. Why writers? Some of the numerous, slow episodic filler episodes should have been dedicated more to resolving the fate of Yusei's friends from the Satelite. Jack taking a trip with Yusei and Crow to see how the old Satelite community is doing for a few episodes is enough time to flesh out his old friends while preparing an appropriate closure for them. So on the topic of closure, I'll like to talk about the ending. Team 5Ds deciding to part ways seems like a forced half-baked choice the writers came up with. With everything I've seen from Yusei or the other characters, the decision between each group member to leave each other in pursuit of their careers seems absolutely rushed and somewhat thoughtless. Together as a team with a very strong bond, they experienced saving the world multiple times as well as each other. So why or where do they get their motivation to seriously move on away from each other for eight whole years? They can decide their own path, but its made to seem as if they're temporarily breaking up their close friendship for inconsiderate reasons. They don't talk about how they will see each other again in the future, they don't talk about how they'll possibly communicate with each other (Except Luna who said she'll write letters weekly) while going their separate paths, or where they'll be going exactly... they just all collectively leave-adios, while giving each other very vague information about their future. Between Yusei and Akiza, have they ever gotten in contact with each other over those entire 8 years? Rhetorically speaking, Akiza in the time-skip implied that she hasn't reunited with Yusei yet ever since the last time she saw him at his garage. Has Yusei gotten in touch with anyone else from 5Ds after all those years? I'll like to think so at least. I don't see anything wrong with Yusei or someone else from his team visiting each other occasionally or consistently messaging each other before they finally coverage back again to Yusei's city. Yusei becoming a scientist and Akiza wanting to be a doctor came out of nowhere. Akiza's reason to study abroad is more puzzling for me. Why can't she seriously study within the domain of Yusei's city? As it is, the city itself is technologically advanced to help suit Akiza's desire and potential of being a doctor. With the value of connections she has between Yusei, her parents, and Lazar, there's no doubt she would have gotten an amazing opportunity studying around the city she already lives in. Her particular decision felt really forced as a reason to be away from each other when the writers could have easily decided to let them be together (A situation where Akiza changes her mind entirely about leaving abroad in favor of supporting Yusei in his journey with transforming his city.) while developing on their relationship through the time skip. Marriage development? Children? Anyways, leave me a reply so I can discuss much more!

Power of Akiza changed to regenerate people. Akiza always helps people with power. It was logic to become doctor with new power . I agree , fillers epsiodes would be better used for development character of Luca and Aki . I would like duel Crow vs Aki to choose titular. Aki would participate in quart of final of wrgp. Of what i can remember, i really loved akiza's character. too bad she got screwed due to real life events about the cult and the writers not being savvy enough (they Could have turned Crow into the equialent of Darth Vader/Vegeta, (AND make him more popular in the process)and give him a cool redeeming arc, while keeping akiza as an important character)
I also just read some stuff about Aki's voice actor getting married so the writers were also forced to demote her to the sidelines because of that.

Episode 1 till episode 110 Yugioh 5ds is almost perfect a solid 9 out of 10. After episode 110 it seems to be average at best.
Things i wish happened:
1. Crow should have been the final villain of the Dark Signers arc
2. Crow should have been in the fortune cup arc but left early due to some reasons
3. Akiza should have had a more prominent role in team 5ds and crow should not have been in it, the team should be yusei, jack & akiza not crow.
4. After team 5d's beats team unicorn then Yusei should join the team of Sherry Leblanc who should get a better role, after that have kalin fill in for yusei in team 5d's then we would have to see akiza & jack develop under kalin's leadership without yusei's presence and yusei is instead with sherry & her partner

One thing I didn't like was that they stripped Akiza of her powers. I liked her controlling her powers in the filler episodes. She really was the muscle of the team who brings the brute destructive power that is needed. Like how she breaks open the truck holding Yusei or how when that biker drives at her she smashes him with her dragon.
I think it was good that they stripped her of her powers.

sofar i'd say that Aki is CLEARLY the best female lead in the franchise. and yes 5d's is my personal favorite series in the franchise. as for why i love aki so much, well it boils down to the fact that in the anime aki gets a great deal of character depth and growth, and with only one exception, she never needed to be physically rescued. heck what i really enjoyed, was seeing Aki take charge of yusei's rescue midway through the pre WRGP arch. talk about a reversal of the damsel in distress trope. she was just a real bad ass character, even if she was pushed to the side more in the second half of the series

Wel Akiza would have been that female lead, if it weren't for that real life controversy of the cult, and the writers not getting savvy about Crow's development (they could have let him be the final Dark signer, And give him a really cool redeeming arc. and keeping aki as an important character, while developing crow).
Frotunately, with the Trickstars being a really popular AND META deck, there is a chance we can get that strong female lead in Aoi Zaizen/Blue angel

I really enjoyed this. I never read the manga for 5Ds, but by the sounds of it, I prefer her anime personality more. Aki struggled a lot more and overcame her demons. In the other, she was worshipped like a goddess. While that isn't bad, it just seemed lacking more. That's just me.

Her anime counterpart put her manga counterpart to shame, I don't hate her in the manga. Even though Akiza (Aki) turned to a cheerleader because Crow came into the picture, she's still a amazing character in our eyes, long live the Black Rose Queen! I love the part where Dylan said "Step aside Yusei, Jack's next in line for the queen!", I do remember Sect, the little bug boy who went evil thanks to the Skeleton Knight. Red hair or Magenta hair, I'm gonna say.....magenta hair.

Things you missed: In the manga, she was originally from a psychic academy together with Sherry, and her abandoning for another academy is what led to their rivalry. She already has her license at the start of the manga and, humorously enough, uses her anime riding duel suit at school but her normal clothes during the competition.
Great debut episode I loved it.Aki is one of my favourite female protagonists I love both versions of her but I suppose the anime version wins out by a little because of her back story and character development. Keep up the good work can't wait until the next episode
Unfortunate that Konami actually cut out 23 episodes overall from 5'Ds during production,, 12 of which were supposed to delve into her backstory even more.
That's due to the fact they were gonna tackle Aki'z backstory of being part of a cult. unfortunately, a member of the staff of 5D's turned out to be part of a real life cult. so they sacrified aki's development in the process to avoid controversy

If I maybe a little bit honest, Akiza became my second favourite Yugioh character after Joey Wheeler. I just felt sorry for her and wanted to see her overcome her past. I do admit she took a back seat after the dark signers arc but to be fair I've heard that 5ds was suppose to finish after the Dark Signers arc so I'm not to torn up about it. I still rewatch 5ds anime from time to time and the duels between Yuesi and Akiza remain two of my favourites of the all Yugioh series. Still good video.
Aki/Akiza was always a really well crafted character, loved the dark backstory. I know that her character went south in Season 3, but that was probably partly due to the rewrite of Crow becoming the 3rd main character. Still love her though, and smoking hot. And 5Ds is the best, love it loads

Yuzu/Zuzu to me is 2nd only to Aki. I loved the way she was portrayed in the first season of Arc-V as a hot-tempered girl with an elegant and passionate dueling style. I do think the recent episodes have taken a wrong turn with her by making her weaker and getting less development. Hopefully she'll do something amazing before the show ends to really earn that ranking. (And support the Melodious archetype!)
Can someone tell me if I should watch ArcV? I started the first two episodes but I'm not digging action dueling nor do I understand it. I'm just wondering if it get like immensely better if I suffer through the first few episodes?
Kasem Salim Of the 3 seasons of Arc-V my opinion is that the first was the best one. The new characters are quite easy to get attached to and play fun decks.
Action Dueling isn't actually that hard to understand either: an Action Field powered by the new Real-Solid Vision technology spawns several Action Cards around the field to assist duelists in pinch scenarios. Season 1 actually varies the Duel Arenas spectacularly, but the later Seasons drop that in favor of "Cross Over", bleh.
Arc-V's main protag, Yuya, is an aspiring entertainer who believes dueling should be for fun first and foremost. I love how meta that theme is due to how drastic the stakes have gotten in Yugioh shows over a simple card game. I like the sort-of "Gen War" (Dimensional War) plot too. It's a very different take on Duel Academy.
I think you should watch at least 15 eps. before deciding whether to drop it or not. Hope you like it!

I still enjoy going back sometimes and rewatch certain parts of 5Ds. Among them the very early stuff, the parts with Aki, dark signer arc and the very final duel with Z-ONE.

I prefer the anime version of her character. In the anime she’s this scared kid who is hated due to powers and is brought into a guilt and groomed to be noting more then a solider by a possessive creep, she hates the world for mistreating her but later on after she meets Yusei and the others she goes from the bitter kid to a sweet but still powerful woman. In the Manga she just kind of has it made and ultimately becomes a damsel in distress.
She’s like the Gaara of Yugioh. Sad backstory, feels like their abilities are a curse, both have redemption arcs with help from the main characters, and both deserved more screen time

The plot could symbolize a concatenation, such as each characters attributes, how they are linked and what brought them together, and for what purposes. Of course this is argumentative and is *my opinion* :)

Read the manga online and I could say most characters outta there are too lame and kinda repetitive.... Like Yusei liking to duel and not showing his tech side... Aki being queen of a duel school... Jack too obssesive over power and he is pretty brutal just like kaiba... and most character roles are changed as well....
I am thankful to the production team that they changed the storyline but I would request a reboot... cause many great were not done because of issues of the cult...
I love carly but hated her va (voice actress) after what she had caused.... because of her, carly was pushed out and the storyline got boring after dark signers arc
If it weren't for Carly's seiyuu, there is a chance Carl would have reained an important character (and pleasing Jackx Carly Shippers), and Akiza would not have lost her arc against the cult. Such a tragedy.
Another reason to love Akiza is that her seiyuu has been part of the Sentai Franchise as DekaYellow (SPD Yellow's sentai counterpart) and as a ranger in Kyoruger.

But I have to agree, I think she was much better in the Anime, and that her story is deeper. She has so much personal growth in the Anime, going from a girl that hated everything to someone that saved lives as a doctor.

As someone who never read the manga (didn't even know 5Ds had a Manga), I expected the Manga to be better and yet . . . it sounds shitter than the shafting Aki had in the Anime.
If you think about it, Sherry also got shafted too in the Anime. These Yugioh writers are really miserable at consistently making female characters good.

Something funny about Aki in the original Japanese series is that her voice actress played ANOTHER psychic character. She played the character Jasmine on Tokuso Sentai Dekaranger. And that girl too had a dark and tragic past due to her powers. She could touch someone and read their minds, and emotions. But it became too much and she almost tried to get herself killed. And Dekaranger aired before 5ds so yeah, I think that they cast her because she had experience with this character type.
Except that in the end Jasmine married that little kid from episode 8.
I've read through the 5D's Manga itself fully, finishing it in December last year though, and actually I thought that she did have some feelings for Yusei in the manga, she was just fairly better at hiding them. But that's my opinion and I respect your opinion for Akiza's feelings in the Manga. And love the comparing series

Yeah there are a lot of big differences between most characters in the manga and anime! I'm glad you enjoyed!
One similarity that you missed is Aki went to a psychic duel academy in the manga just like in the anime. A few differences is that Sherry went to the same academy and unlike her anime counterpart she left before the manga started because she wanted to enjoy dueling and did not want to use her power as a weapon. Another difference is she doesn't start riding duel until later in the anime where her manga counterpart already knows how to duel in the manga. Aki in the anime is definitely better. She has developed so much from a bullied kid to a psychic witch to a hero.
After the Dark Signers Arc didn't Akiza go back to duel academy for a bit, have a mini-arc about becoming a turbo duelist, and then replace Crow for part of the WRGP?
She did! Kind of skipped over that part and went straight to the Crow/Sherry duel. Didn't want to spend 7-8 mins just talking about her anime backstory!
The anime vs manga series was a great idea Dylan, I really enjoyed this video and can't wait to see the next one. I've always liked Akiza in the anime, I haven't read the manga yet so I can't say how much I would like her in the manga. I do agree that she took a little of a back seat after the dark signers arc. I do like when she tried to save Yusei from the back of that truck on the episode when Sherry was first introduced. Her and Tea are the only female characters that got to save or stand up for the male protagonist ( Tea's moment being her dueling Mai in Yugi's place in duelist kingdom.) Jack also stood up for Akiza on the episode when she got her turbo duelist license, I remember he beat up the three guys that tried to ruin her duel.

Yugioh Everything Jack may be her bodyguard but Yusei still gets her love and attention. Jack still has good luck with the ladies though, Carly, Mina, and the girl from the coffee shop all love him.
i have only seen around half of duel monsters ,gx and 5ds (grew up with 4kids thats why) haven't red the manga but seeing these videos it appears that in manga romantic feelings arent that acknowledge but in anime they show obvious hints

Aki is pretty much my favorite character in all of YGO. Her backstory and character development are incredible, and I was often moved to tears. And her dueling - her duels with Yusei and Sherry are absolutely iconic. I really, truly wish she wasn't pushed to the backburner in the second half of the show. I read a while ago that she was initially planned to have Crow's tritagonist role but his popularity (i.e. his archetype brining in massive $$$) meant that Konami put him there. I imagine the scandal that happened when it was revealed that Carly's voice actress was part of a sex cult had an impact too, since Konami decided to jettison or retcon most of the cult elements so they could save themselves for more backlash had a huge impact on Aki's arc, too. I would've loved for her to get closure about everything that happened with Sayer and Arcadia. Maybe I'll be lucky and stumble across canon fixfic of that some day...
Cannot wait for you to cover the rest of main characters. I have read the pre-fight with grandpa episodes in Yugi to some extent and can say Yami is far more accurrate a name for Atem then one might guess. Jaden was the cause of it all in anime but manga mentions a mentor that the red jersey is from that was taken by dark forces. you covered where I got to in 5D's by mentioning her first match with yusei.
In the dubbed version, Jack Atlas was the closest to saying that Akiza loves Yusei in the episode where she and Jack were looking for Yusei. And I think I remember reading somewhere (I'm pretty sure it was the Japanese voice for Yusei and/or Akiza) saying that after the end of the 5Ds series, the two did get married.

I was already aware of some of the difference between anime/manga Akiza but there were somethings I didn't know like her being a sacrifice to an evil deity and such. Akiza was my favorite character from 5ds. I heard rumors about a plan of her dueling Sayer which is very unfortunate that it didn't happen as it would have been amazing to see. Sayer is kind of what Akiza could have been if Yusei didn't come into her life. I think Sayer has a very tragic past as well.

How does the voice actor of one character joining a sex cult affect plans for other characters dueling? There's not enough points to connect the dots for me here.
Storywise the two are pretty close. Also having it dubbed just makes more impact. Just like a movie will make more impact than a book will even if the book has a stronger story.
Also Akiza's story in both versions is pretty much the same. It's weaker in the dub version but the story itself isn't any different. The first series did have major changes but the later ones had far fewer.
Also the dub names are far easier to remember.
Finally the dub is more aimed at 12 year old instead of the original's 16 year olds.
Many really exaggerate the differences and they are actually quite few. In Zexal everything is about identical. Many of the speeches are even pretty much identical, word for word.
I've seen both as well and while some of the dialogue choices for Nasch are a bit questionable I think the Archlight brothers were done almost perfectly. That speech that IV makes towards Vetrix was one of the most moving ones ever. III dialogue was I think the weakest but V was very strong as well. One very strange thing though is that their real names were never mentioned in the dub except for V. I love their European names of Daniel and Thomas.
There seems to be also a problem of culture. When it's about christian ideas of love, trust, charity and humility 4kids tends to do fine. But when it goes towards more Bushido ideas of loyalty, honor and truth they tend to stumble.
It's not a judgement or anything but just something I've noticed. Western values they tend to do very well. The Archlight brothers arc was done almost perfectly.
I like Akiza's anime version like you do because of basically almost the same reasons man.

Not trying to sound nitpicky here, Dylan, but your poll should have displayed "Rua (Leo)" in order to be more consistent with the other three options. What do I think about this new series? I like it a lot. I do not see other channels (that I know of) doing this sort of thing. Keep it going! Also, which of your friends are going to play as Kaiba and Jack? Are they just going to do ten rounds on YGOPro and report the score card back to you or will you include quick highlights in that video? Will the video include their respective deck recipes as well?
the reason there are 6 signers is because crow stole leos role as a signer due to the popularity of black wing decks. This is why life stream dragon is shown as one of the 5 Signer Dragons while Black wing dragon is not. Leo was then given his rightful place but this ended up creating a place for leo rather then passing it on.

Oh yeah, I agree with you with Aki, since 5D's and until this day she has the first spot in my topten female Yugioh characters and no one, i repeat NO ONE will be take that spot from her, also, i love her so much that I draw her as a female boxer and that she is my waifu, and no other female characters from ANY other anime hastaken one spot, only two have reach her but not surpass her.

This was really interesting! Despite having not read any Yugioh manga (yet), I heard that Aki's manga counterpart was like polar opposite to her anime version. I do agree that her character development and backstory does seem better than her manga counterpart. I do like characters that go through that change from bad to good. As for who I'd like to see next.... Probably the King himself: Jack Altas.

Anime Aki is a Gundam character (particular from Gundam SEED) and a Yu-Gi-Oh female lead combined in one package:
- Anime Aki = Cagalli + Shinn + Lunamaria
- Manga Aki = Flay + Lunamaria
Aki was total awesome till later on she can only pull of one real win & that's with Crow [which is just lame] but she is probably the best [not my favorite but probably one of the best] cool video can't wait till the next

Aki not having much to do after the Dark Signers arc was the unfortunate mix of the writers of the anime planning to end the series at the Dark Signers arc, hence why it felt like such a proper conclusion, along with other problems.
The Black Wing archtype sold really well so Crow was mandated by Konami to get more screen time, at Aki's expense. The potential Aki could have gotten from going after Arcadia was also lost thanks to a real life cult in a Japan and the anime writers felt using a cult in a plot would be a bad case of "too soon."
Either way Aki was still a huge improvement over previous female characters by virtue of actually getting to do stuff alone.
Her not having feelings for Yusei in the manga sounds like an improvement to me since her having feelings for him in the anime never went anywhere. I am really sick of seeing that.
Her feelings towards Yusei in the anime wasn't developed properly. Blame the writers, not the characters.

I'm just gonna come out and say it, Anime Akiza is way better than Manga Akiza, one hundred percent. She may not have been able to predict what cards she was gonna draw and play, but she could still bring them to life, and had a well thought out and heartbreaking backstory that made almost everybody everywhere fall in love with this chick. Heck, even Yusei got to share some cute romance scenes with her in the Anime where in the Manga they were just buds, and it really sucked that she didn't fall in love with Yusei in the Manga, especially when those 2 are the best Yugioh couple ever in the show. Heck, even Sebastian from the little Mermaid, at this point would be all like "Dude, seriously, just take your chance and kiss the girl.".

Yugioh Everything sweet, also have you ever considered reviewing the fan series Revalations of the Orichalcos. It starts REALLY cringey but gets better as it goes. I only suggest it because it's probably long running enough for it.
Aki is the best yugioh girl ever and that's a fact. It's a crime how underated she is. She has one of the best AND COOLEST decks in any yugioh series.

If Yuzu didn't exist Aki would be my waifu she's one of my favourite characters and I love her deck.
Also thinking about it now I think her taking a back seat in the second half of 5ds could be a good scene, she's overcome all the trials thrown her way, becomes a kinder person and has a good supportive friend circle, and sure she had a giant crush on Yusei I could also view this time as her trying to figure out what to do in life, she tries turbo dueling and even duels for team 5ds in the WRGP but in the end settles on becoming a doctor and helping people, I'm honestly just trying to put a positive spin on her taking the back seat after the dark signer arc
There's nothing positive about it. I'll explain later in detail.
I enjoyed this Yugioh series the most compared to any other Yugioh series I've seen (i.e. Duel Monsters, GX). I've heard mixed feelings towards the other Yugioh series with people claiming them to be subpar and less mature in a way or some of the best Yugioh shows as another perspective.
So after finishing 5Ds, I immediately went into Zexal to see what it's about. I've so far seen the first two episodes, but I'm not really interested in it so far (nonetheless, I'll see more into it as I know the beginning of the other Yugioh series usual start lackluster [except 5Ds for me]). I hate how there's never any serious continuity with any of these Yugioh shows. It always feels like just another reset where the past series' main characters and their influence in their world are all irrelevant or nonexistent in relationship with the subsequent Yugioh series.
I didn't expect 5Ds to be my favorite Yugioh series. I liked many characters in this show and admired how some were handled to an extent beyond my expectations. I know for sure though that none of the main characters really reached close to their full potential. Yusei is nearly a Gary Stu the entire show winning almost every duel. He usually delivers miracles and saves the fate of his friends whenever he can. It's quite a problem especially because he never really develops much during the main storylines. Most of the main characters remain static except for the likes of Akiza and Jack who changed significantly between the first two seasons.
For the sake of supplementing tension, Yusei should have lost more duels to make him seem less like an unbeatable duelist when his duels came to fate, destiny, or his friends. As the stakes got higher, it was easier to comprehend how unlikely it was for Yusei to lose, knowing how much would be lost if he did. So if Yusei were to lose more naturally, the plot would need to be changed as an accommodation because most of his duels are too important to lose.
Yusei's teammates undoubtedly could have easily been primed to recoup some of Yusei's extensive dueling glory that he accumulated in the other seasons. Akiza absolutely needed a better role than what she received in most of the seasons. There is no reason for her best individual duels to have been from the first two seasons. I know about Crow's marketable deck (made the writers give him a lot more focus than other characters) or how Carly's former Japanese voice actress's occult conspiracy affected possible important character arc stories (regarding the psychic Arcadia Movement and Dark Signer occult implications) for Akiza and Carly's character herself, but that doesn't excuse their extremely diminishing roles in the later seasons whatsoever.
There were plenty of opportunities to improve or invest in making her character more important!
The main writer who took over after the first two seasons finished, admitted to preferring writing male characters more than female characters... that can pathetically explain why he continuously kept having Yusei win duel after duel and relegated Akiza as a benchwarmer (when she was shown in the show's 5th season's ending song, she was literally referred to as her team's benchwarmer [Aki Izayoi--Team 5D's Benchwarmer]). (Akiza was given only one 1vs1 duel between Episodes 65-154)!
When Akiza was inspired to go through with turbo-dueling, it seemed like she was on her way towards meaningfully contributing to the general turbo duel-bots plot or Grand Prix tournament. Of course, her time spent being a turbo duelist was never provided with any worthwhile pay-off. The writers hardly defined her character meaningfully within the main plots of the last three seasons and miserably established her more into a supporting character role rather than a main character role like Yusei, Jack, and Crow.
When I was watching the Grand Prix tournament episodes, Akiza's lack of importance was especially highlighted throughout that arc. Her one-liners and awkward facial expressions are ever so reminiscent of Bastion's portrayal during Yugioh GX's second season and onwards. No decent character deserves to be written the way Bastion gets treated in Yugioh GX's other seasons.
Eventually, around the middle of season 4, I realized how unusual it was to leave out Yusei's Satelite friends out of any sort of plot. Even including not being featured in any of the abundant filler/slow-episodic episodes. They were heavily important for Yusei's character and the story across the first two seasons. So I realized why wasn't Yusei ever thinking back in retrospect the friends he had at the satellite? Yusei's new team of friends consisting of Akiza, Crow, Jack, Leo, Luna, Bruno, etc. have all meaningfully established a new, greater unique bond with him, but again, Yusei's Satellite friends should have been dealt with through closure, not as forgotten/written-off characters.
Why writers? Some of the numerous, slow episodic filler episodes should have been dedicated more to resolving the fate of Yusei's friends from the Satelite. Jack taking a trip with Yusei and Crow to see how the old Satelite community is doing for a few episodes is enough time to flesh out his old friends while preparing an appropriate closure for them.
So on the topic of closure, I'll like to talk about the ending. Team 5Ds deciding to part ways seems like a forced half-baked choice the writers came up with. With everything I've seen from Yusei or the other characters, the decision between each group member to leave each other in pursuit of their careers seems absolutely rushed and somewhat thoughtless. Together as a team with a very strong bond, they experienced saving the world multiple times as well as each other. So why or where do they get their motivation to seriously move on away from each other for eight whole years?
They can decide their own path, but its made to seem as if they're temporarily breaking up their close friendship for inconsiderate reasons. They don't talk about how they will see each other again in the future, they don't talk about how they'll possibly communicate with each other (Except Luna who said she'll write letters weekly) while going their separate paths, or where they'll be going exactly... they just all collectively leave-adios, while giving each other very vague information about their future.
Between Yusei and Akiza, have they ever gotten in contact with each other over those entire 8 years? Rhetorically speaking, Akiza in the time-skip implied that she hasn't reunited with Yusei yet ever since the last time she saw him at his garage. Has Yusei gotten in touch with anyone else from 5Ds after all those years? I'll like to think so at least. I don't see anything wrong with Yusei or someone else from his team visiting each other occasionally or consistently messaging each other before they finally coverage back again to Yusei's city.
Yusei becoming a scientist and Akiza wanting to be a doctor came out of nowhere. Akiza's reason to study abroad is more puzzling for me. Why can't she seriously study within the domain of Yusei's city? As it is, the city itself is technologically advanced to help suit Akiza's desire and potential of being a doctor. With the value of connections she has between Yusei, her parents, and Lazar, there's no doubt she would have gotten an amazing opportunity studying around the city she already lives in. Her particular decision felt really forced as a reason to be away from each other when the writers could have easily decided to let them be together (A situation where Akiza changes her mind entirely about leaving abroad in favor of supporting Yusei in his journey with transforming his city.) while developing on their relationship through the time skip. Marriage development? Children? Anyways, leave me a reply so I can discuss much more!

Power of Akiza changed to regenerate people. Akiza always helps people with power. It was logic to become doctor with new power . I agree , fillers epsiodes would be better used for development character of Luca and Aki . I would like duel Crow vs Aki to choose titular. Aki would participate in quart of final of wrgp. Crow can fight demi final and final
