My Golden was potty trained in three weeks , Never once had an accident . I took that dog outside every 20 to 30 minutes around the clock , When he went potty where I wanted outside he got a treat and tremendous praise ! Yes it was exhausting ! But worth it ! No other way around it at all , no secrets , Just repetition !!

@@bringthesprite It was either that or deal with months and months of potty training issues. I'm too old for that lol, so I resigned myself that I was going to do it and do it right. And this was in the winter also. So I was having to go out in the middle of the night with -20° temperatures lol. It certainly wasn't easy but in the end it all worked out and within a month. Like I said I put that all behind me. He would go near the door and cry. I would let him out. He would do his thing and I would praise him, it's just something you have to do. If you want a dog it's part of it. It goes along with it. Sure I was tired, and my wife helped out also. She would also let the dog out at times. Puppies are not easy but it's over in a flash and then having a wonderful pet is so rewarding. I love my dog. He has three years old now and he is absolutely the best friend I have in this world. There was nothing I wouldn't do for him and nothing he wouldn't do for me. I'm absolutely in love with him

Potty training is a keep to routine. Which some people find exhausting. For going out with their pup every 1-2h or after they've taken a sip of water.
My 2 foster dogs i had was on leash at all times for the first 2 weeks (except during night). So if i saw one of them drink water. I went up and we went out, because they did some accidents inside directly after drinking water.
It is mentally and physically draining. BUT i'd rather not be lazy about it so that you actually can relax and focus on teaching the dog things in the future instead of being stuck on potty training xD
It's such an easy task to teach a dog/pup (in my eyes)

Thank you for sharing all your invaluable knowledge. My 15 week old male Australian shepherd puppy has been asking to go outside since he was 10 weeks and has never had an accident in his crate and very few in the house. He puts himself to bed at 9:00pm and now sleeps until 6:am. If he wanted to go out sooner we would take him. He is very vocal when he wants to go as well as scratches at the door to our yard. Yesterday afternoon he peed in front of me in the house 3 times without making a sound. I take him out frequently during the day even if he does not need to go. He is on a houseline so i grabbed that and took him outside mid pee. This morning after he had just been out he started to pee right beside me. I am home all day and he is supervised by my husband or myself. There are always eyes on him. We also go outside with him on leash and he still gets treats when he goes. He is not allowed to freely roam the house unaccompanied.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated - I would like get this fixed before it becomes a very bad habit. I don’t understand why now after 5 weeks of consistently taking him out immediately he just squats and pees. Thank you

This is terrific. Thank you! We did the cue word “poopen” training with our previous Lab, and it worked like a champ. When he got older we still used the cue word every time he went, and we also walked around for at least 15 minutes afterwards. We learned if we didn’t do post-poopen walk around, he would be stubborn and delay doing his poopen (he liked being outside).

I trained my puppy to use the yard... he was using the yard for like a week with the doggy door. Now he keeps pooping on my patio. I know he's trained because if I look at him through the Arcadia door when he's on the patio he'll run to the grass. But if I'm not looking at him or taking him out there he'll poop on my bricks. I'm getting really really really irritated. Everytime he goes in the yard he gets a treat. Everytime he goes on the patio I yell at him and put him back in the grass. I've had many dogs over the years and this is the first time I have ever dealt with this. I'm now looking at a sealant to put over the brick after everything is cleaned with soap. If it doesn't work I'm ready to give up and sell this pup and get a different one. I'm thinking he doesn't like the grass being wet.. cause he hated the bath I gave him.. and again I gave treats in the bath.

@BDTraining I had to originally train my husky to go on potty pads because I would be at work 9-10 hours a day. She did very well with this, but transitioning her to go outside has been difficult as she still wants to go on the puppy pads and I can walk her for a hour or 2 with another dog who goes outside and she sniffs it but isn't interested in mimicking the behavior. As soon as we get home, she goes straight to the puppy pad. It has only been in the last few months that she will do her business at the dog park. I immediately praise her once she is done. I have a senior chihuahua also and I have to leave a puppy pad down for her. Any suggestions? My husky will go on my back patio and I just immediately clean it up. Not sure about trying to crate her now at 16 months as I live in an apartment and think that she would howl all day while I'm working and disturb my neighbors. I have tried taking the pads away but then she goes on the floor where the pads once were there. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I have a 8week English Staffy baby at home, since a week ago, and i am kinda shook, she holds all night there was only once pee on the pad in her pen area, and that was during first nights when she was still adjusting to the new home..i would say she is 80% potty trained because sometimes she gets too playful and forgets to run outside in the garden to pee, otherwise really happy with how its going, and ofcourse I make sure to make her go outside often even if she does not need to go,just in case, I did not use treats tho only praise but I guess i should reward her with some yummies for being such a cute good baby and doing stuff outside most of the time

Hey, I was curious to ask for some advice. Currently potty training my 8 month old dog. My routine is this. First thing in the morning, I take her out of her crate and go for a walk. If she doesn't use the bathroom, I come inside, feed her breakfast, play with her, then take her back outside. After that, I come back inside play with her for about 30 mins then put her back in her crate. I keep her in the crate for about 30-60 mins. after the crate session, I take her right back outside. After I walk, I then come inside to play for about 30 mins, and crate her again. I basically rinse and repeat this process for the whole day.
It's day two and the training is going well. She's starting to pee outside consistently ... getting her to poop outside is another problem though lol. But it will come with persistence.
Anyway, I guess I'm curious, do you think I'm using the crate too much? I notice that Beckman recommended to tether the dog to you. Would this be a better approach? There probably isn't one right answer. Btw, I'm not against crating. I just don't know if I'm doing it too much?
Also, if you think there is a better way I can approach my routine, please, let me know!

With my 5 month old puppy she is doing very good at potty training as long as we remember to let her out consistently. But she has yet to tell us that she needs to go out. So if she hasn't been let out for a while she will go in the house. I got a doggy doorbell and we have her press it every time we take her out but she hasn't pressed it herself to let us know she wants to go out. How do you train the transition to having them tell you when they need to go?

I just got a puppy who is already used to pee/poop in the grass... Problem is I live in an appartment and my vet told me the dog should not go outside to potty train until she has all her vaccines (I could still take him out on my arms or with a bagpack for socialization).
The pup is 2 months old and 2 weeks and manages to pee every 4 hours already which is impressive but I'm literally lost on what to do.... Tried artificial grass on my terrace, not working, she ended up peeing in her crate twice while she loves the crate to rest & eat treats...I'm kind of lost, I put diaper in the terrace and say out loud "hey" when she is about to pee and lift her to the spot I want her to pee but then she stops and will just go back inside to go peeing... I can't imagine handling 3 weeks until her full vaccinations.
The city I live is very (very very) dog friendly and according to the vet, that's the reason why my pup should not touch the floor outside.

I just got a 15 month old Doberman who is in the last week of her heat. And she has been holding her poop in the last couple days I’ve had her. And I take her out after events but she just won’t go on a leash since her last home she had a doggie door and could go any time of day.
I am trying to stay consistent but I think she’s feeling too vulnerable to poop and won’t even pee outside with me. She had an accident in our bed and her crate, just pee. I caught her last night peeing so I took her outside but nothing happened. It’s like she doesn’t know why we’re standing in one spot for 10 minutes so she can go. And I don’t want to keep saying potty until she actually goes potty. Please help!

Am guessing you have resolved this by now. Most puppies need to eliminate 5 to 20 minutes after they eat, sleep, or play hard. Starting when you wake up, take him outside on leash to the spot you want him to go. You're just doing circles the length of the leash in that area. I tell my guys to get busy or find a spot. As soon as they do, praise just not too exuberantly because you don't want to interrupt them. Treats immediately after they eliminate and treats outside, none for coming in the house until the housetraining issue is resolved. Even if you want to take them for a walk afterwards, please take them inside even if it's just for 3 seconds. Then, want to go for a walk? That way potty training is a separate event. They s/be on a regular feeding schedule too. Whatever they don't eat within a half hour, gets taken up until the next feeding time. By putting them on a schedule, you then know when they should have to eliminate. So no free feeding or grazing all day long, especially if you are still having housetraining issues. Hope that helps.

She looks so damn sad like “what do I do wrong? Why are you doing this to me.”
    That’s the look I get.
She doesn’t yelp or whine or bark once in there she just looks depressed as hell.
