One of my favourite videos of yours as you showed all the methods and then “allowed” the owner to choose the one that she prefers. Huge respect for that rather than telling her to follow a single method.
Thank god for these videos. I actually used these methods to control and educate my 6 month old corso. And thanks to all the tips my boy behaves better then the 7 year old dog we have in the house.

I've got a dog, Torvi, and she's a beast in her training. She's like a robot except when I first let her out of her crate she jumps on me... none of my other dogs do this and I've tried so many different things. Thanks for making this video!!
Like psychos my husband and I got three boxer puppy’s this summer. They’re doing great but one might as well be a kangaroo. Nothing works. But Joel has given me hope. I’ve gone to petco classes with her and am looking to get a trainer but Joel explains things so great and shows you how dogs think play and it works!
I can relate! We have ONE 7 month-old Boxer. She’s sweet, but such a jerk sometimes. I cannot imagine three! Kangaroo, check. Monkey, check. Bull in a china shop, check. She’s exhausting. These videos are a godsend.
Great video. Great to see the client come up with the idea to use the step-on-leash method when the dog leaves the bed (I think she did, she was too quiet for me to definitely understand). In the spirit of exploring further ideas, I would suggest as soon as possible inviting over a healthy, adult neighbor or friend (who could handle it if the dog jumps on them) to come over specifically so you can practice these methods right away, to begin building the habit and memory to use them, rather than wait for someone to come over organically. Then later that day or the next day, invite another person over. Then maybe the next day, invite two people to come in at the same time. I’d love to see a video dealing with mouthing, especially with an older and bigger pup like this guy. My Aussie mouths and we’re trying to find an effective method.
My first method is snapping their nose with one hand, say "no mouthing," and if they keep doing it I sit them down and keep their mouth shut with my hand. If they mouth someone else do the "hey" and move in and sit them down like Joel does with all rough behavior. Alternatively you can grab the cheeks with both hands instead of the nose/jaw. If it happens while playing, redirect to a rope or stick after the correction. Satiation is great. Get them to bite other things, like ropes, other dogs that like to play rough, bones, etc. Some dogs are too into it, and they need a stronger correction. Then you sit them down and you act like they just committed a cardinal sin. "Are you crazy? What's wrong with you?! No biting people! Place!" The idea is to overwhelm them with negativity, you can see by their reaction if they understand what they did wrong or not. Let them sit in their place for a couple seconds, then make up. This is a very important step.
Such a great and informative video, this is what my adult dog does! I am definitely going to start implementing these tools for when people come into my house, especially need to as my dad is elderly and frail. Thanks heaps Joel 😊😊
I needed this! My 1 yr old lab/pit wont jump on me but he loses his mind around guests and jumps like crazy. I even took him on a 3 mile run before guests came over to try and tire him out which helped a little bit but he still jumped on guest even when i keep him on lead
Great video! I must have picked up the "leash correction method" on one of your other videos, that's my current solution. Ditto about jumping on elderly/kids. That poor lady has so many scars already Edit: Just want to say I also really enjoy the impulse control activity you do at the doors, correcting them flying out. I've been successful in using this method to prevent chasing the cats and chickens
@@vikingdogmanship yes I wanted a husky, German shepherd, or doberman to go on runs and bike rides with. Someone gave me a Yorkie. Im gonna have to get a baby carrier backpack to strap her to me 😂. This beautiful dog would make a great biking companion
Thank you for this very helpful video. Our little Boston just turned 1. Although he is much, better than he was a few months ago, jumping and mouthing are still an issue. Do you use the same approach (kneeing) with small dogs or is there a different move you recommend? The satiation method by enrolling him in doggie daycare has been a huge help! But currently he has to take a sabbatical after contracting Kennel Cough. So I am using alternative methods of correction and play to address these things.

Trained well up to 5 months now nothing appears to be working for us. Love your videos they have helped me a lot but a great dane jumping and mouthing is not nice and not easy to control when you are the subject. Easier to pull him off and correct when you are at the end of the lead and he is may be jumping at somebody else, but so so difficult as I said when you are the subject.
Agreed!! Any mouthy and chewy behavioral correction would be wonderful!! My husband uses his hands a lot to play with our pup and I think that may be teaching her to be more mouthy, any thoughts? I usually only use toys when playing and correct when she goes for any hands or body parts because I don’t like that behavior.

JOAL I Have a 11 mnth o;ld Rotty that iv only had 2 weeks he is very excited and Jumps and and very mouthy ( especially when i go to let him of the chain ) luckly he isnt a lead puller and he comes when called and isnt a barker
"He did little half jumps and I still gave him a little knee." Part of it was just excitement but I bet part was also testing to see if you'd let him jump on you. Not from dominance, but from thing. We don't accept either.
Joel, what do you do with a dog who, for the most part, is pretty good on leash, but will out of the blue have spontaneous zoomies while on a walk? My 7 month old pup does this at least once almost every time we walk. She even fractured my pinky finger on one occasion because it was so unexpected I didn’t see it coming. She just takes off sideways and tries running in circles around me at the end of the leash. Once I get her settled then she will walk well again. It’s gotten to the point that I dread walking her. She’s 43 lbs - strong and fast - and still growing. She needs the exercise, but I’m on guard during the entire walk. No fun. I’m at my wits end.
I have a mastiff that does the same. And she is 90 pounds+. My solution walking with her, is walk on a short leash/heel for most of the walking part, then stop where it is a good spor for it, and let her explore, go potty, and have her zoomies, before I gather her up to a heel and keep walking. I also use a gentle leader on her, as the pulling is much less to deal with then.
I love how Joel tailors his recommendations to each client & dog, as an individual. Making it more realistic that they will stick with it

Yes, I could do with that too for my 10 mth old flat coat retriever who has been a challenge.

Use the leash. Lower it so you can step on it like Joel showed when comming in the door. And dont let him be petted before he sits or calm down

My puppy is 8 weeks old should i be correcting jumping yet or should this wait until shes slightly older and can understand better?
No at his age just make a marker noise and turn away.
