When I was a kid we used sponges with nasty stuff in a tube for catfish. Worked well when you didn't have fresh bait. Also used to tie floating flies with a piece of sponge and elastic bands from old underwear for legs, lol.

That looks like so much fun! Unfortunately I'm in Nebraska, but I will try Spongebob for catfish next summer when the ice is gone. Thank for sharing!!

One day in the boat, no one was catching anything, so I put on a banana peel and caught a nice drum in a few minutes. Thinking it could be a flook, I tried it again and boom, hooked up with another one. Anyone else ever tried banana peels for bait? Weird or what?

We catch suckers in the Rifle River here in Michigan, in the spring on yellow sponge. They try to eat it, because it looks a lot like the roe of other suckers. We don't put any sent on it though, we just put it on a hook and drift fish it in the current. lol.

Something that I found out when surf fishing is to look for holes where when the waves are coming in watch for the curl to lay down then pick back up, the curl lays down when on deeper water that is where the hole is, then cast to the hole for more fish😊

One day we made it out of the channel before we realized we forgot the squid strips.
So, out came an old white washcloth, a small tube of anchovy paste, and a pair of scissors.
We limited out on 22-26” fluke on cotton strips coated with old anchovy paste!

It's not a good idea to use synthetic materials that fish must swallow and escape. These materials are toxic and it will do damage to the fish when digested. Also someone will eventually eat the fish. I hope we don't propagate such fishing techniques.
