  • We are using this brand new beach fishing rig to target some BIG fish! This rig can catch all sorts of species and has a secret technique that helps to avoid it getting tangled or snagged. This fishing rig is super simple to tie and helped me land a BIG one today! Have you ever used a rig like this before? What did you catch?
    This week, we are camping on the beach in North Carolina and I’m getting antsy. I am still looking to catch that BIG keeper. This new rig in combination with my own Squidy Bits bait is my secret weapon. These two used together caught me SO MANY fish today! Not to mention I get to end the day on a pretty satisfying catch.

    Just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed your page over the last two years! Between my health issues and the pandemic I’ve not been able to get on the beach much but seeing you and your family fishing has been extremely entertaining. Keep it up! I look forward to your new posts every week. THANKS!

    I’ve surf fished NC beaches my entire life. This is an ingenious rig. I’d use fluorocarbon for the snell leader. I’ve salted my shrimp for 55 years. I got my first Sputnik’s at Hatteras many years ago. They often come in handy in rough NC surf. Great video. I always enjoy your common sense approach to fishing as well as your sense of humor!

    I’ve been making my own leader rigs for a long time now. I like this design as you can space your hook links further apart. Even make multiple hook links. I also sometimes use a swivel on the hook to leader connection and don’t see any extra tangling. Great video !

    I see you've added the pendulum swing of the weight as you cast! Fantastic! That is vital to getting the longest cast, while incorporating the left handed "pull/snap"!
    If your going to continue fishing here,, remember the weakfish that you caught, is the grey trout. The speckled sea trout, is also a weakfish, and both are in the drum family!

    Look into using crimps, beads, and swivels to tie that rig. It's built bottom lead clip, crimp, bead, swivel, bead, crimp. then repeat the crimp, bead, swivel, bead, crimp as many times as you want on the main rig body. This allows the hook length to move 360° around the rig body with no tangles and gives you the quick change on hooks.

    Ive been using this rig for river fishing since i was 7, and every time we go fishing we catch either walleye or goldeye or sucker fish or mooneye. Because the first hook sits near the bottom, the second sits near the middle so any suckers and any walleye or something else will bite. Greeting from calgary

    Very cool, thanks for the video. It's not a "new rig" though. It's essentially a hi lo rig, but instead of using dropper loops, you are attaching a separate line with a hook. Anytime I go out on a party boat from Brooklyn, they always tie the rig this way (they do it very fast though, so I never learned it). This is the standard setup for porgies, blues, and anything else that's swimming around the party boat. As for the sputnik sinker, I will definitely have to get some for this coming season. We fish some rocky bottoms sometimes and I hate losing sinkers (both because of the environmental aspect and the fact that I run out).

But I have been using this rig for carp fishing in weedy areas for a few years. Nice to see a re-imagining of it to use in saltwater.

  • @MrMccurley

    A thought on knot cinching; a bit of spit on the knot can allow the knot to be cinched tighter, and smoother, without friction generating heat...

  • @josephwong6856
    @josephwong6856 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I learned this as the Morticians Rig.. from the Fishin Mortician. The way I learned was knots should be figure 8, since overhand knots tend to cut in on themselves. I attach the circle hooks with a rapala loop knot, it tends to let the circle hook rotate faster versus direct tying or snelling for me. Thanks for these videos from a fellow Marylander and Cal Poly grad!
