In 1969, The Who released the double album "Tommy", a 75 minute rock opera. In 1975, it was adapted as the feature-length musical film "Tommy". It's about a psychosomatically blind, deaf, and mute boy who becomes a master pinball player and subsequently a cult leader. In the film, Roger Daltrey (lead singer; 80 years old now) plays the title role of Tommy, and Keith Moon (drummer; died in 1978 from a drug overdose) plays Uncle Ernie. Pete Townshend (guitarist; 78 years old now) narrates parts. Pete, Keith and John Entwistle (bassist; died in 2002 from a drug-induced heart attack) also play themselves as the Band. The film also stars Ann-Margret, Oliver Reed, Jack Nicholson, Elton John, Tina Turner, and Eric Clapton.

The Who were ranked up there with the Stones and Led Zed and Pink Floyd and Deep Purple, only behind the Beatles in Fame

You should see them when they were younger. Particularly Keith the drummer was a sight and sound to behold.

This was one of their best album (in my opinion), released in 1971. That was a signature of the band, was destorying instuments, (Pete Townsend).

Oh My God I guess I'm old school for Rock & Roll. Their music was fantastic. Roger Daltry is a legend. The classic Rock & Roll will always be the best. 😉 Stay safe

I knew you’d like them although you would probably have appreciated it even more if you had done my other request, the making of video for Who Are You. It was made by the creative force of the band, Pete Townsend. You get a real feel for their personalities & uniqueness in that video. Yes Pete’s fingers were bleeding, they always did. He was famous for the speed of his playing, he has guitar solo’s no one has ever been able to match. The best example is Pinball Wizard at the Isle of Wright. He’s wearing a white jumpsuit and during the intense and lightening fast solo you can see blood flecking onto the white. He is the originator of the windmill guitar arm. Roger Daltry has an incredible vocal range (he’s done it all from rock to opera) and he never fails to catch that mic. Some of the best showcases for his range are Young Man Blues, See Me Feel Me Touch Me (from Tommy), Love Reign Over Me (from Quadrophenia) and Behind Blue Eyes. Keith Moon aka Moon the Loon was an incredible drummer with an even bigger personality. In the early days Peter smashed his guitar at the end of every show so Keith started kicking over the drum kit. He took it a bit far on The Smothers Brothers tv show & blew up his kit. No one knew he was going to do it and all were left with hearing loss for a week. John Entwhistle aka The Ox is the strong, silent timekeeper of The Who. His steadiness & brilliant bass playing was both hysterical and necessary. Only Keith could crack him up, you’ll see it in the Who Are You video. Thanks!

From the Sixties, I've followed the Who. My favorite band of all time. Thank you for playing this. In our current times, this tune makes so much sense. Of course realize I'm 40 years older than the KING, so I've go a historical perspective. Check out all the great MUSIC from The Who. Hey, Who are those guys?

I grew up on this music. I was born in 68, and it was still playing in the 80s. I can't remember the first time I heard it. It's like it was always there.
I love classic rock. They don't make good music much anymore. A good rock band had it all. The music was as important as the vocals.

The song is so real. Some things don't change. When will we as a people learn?
The music is so good you can get lost in the song. The lyrics are very true about politics. You need to check the lyrics and listen again.

The Who made a rock opra that turned into a filmed called "Tommy" It is a bit freaky ,but it's streaming here on YT. The Drummer was one of the biggest partying maniacs in rock history and passed away not long after this show .Maybe a year or so . The Bass Player died like last 20 years . They were almost geezers here. To see them in their prime check them out at Woodstock 1969 ! They were unreal !!

Good choice. This one is a must. Check out, "Love Reign Over Me" for the lighter side. The Who is one of the staple bands of their era. And they may have had a huge influence on punk rock (much like The Stones did).

And by the way, you were watching who many consider to be the best rock drummer ever (or Bonham, or Copeland, or Baker). When Keith died, the got a kick-ass drummer to replace him though (kenny Jones I think).

Some bands ( think RUSH) can’t run around and jump all over the stage because of the complexity of their music. Angus Young the guitarist from AC/DC famously jumps all around the stage. John Entwistle the bass player here is one of the greats from back then, so he needed to focus more on his playing than putting on a show.
    👍

Have you seen the video of Rush performing "Working Man" live in Cleveland on their Time Machine tour of 2011? Alex and Geddy are indeed jumping all over the stage, and Geddy even does several Pete Townshend-like leaps during the middle of the song. BTW, when asked what his "desert island" album would be, Geddy said "Who's Next" by The Who.

Hard to believe, after Pete Townshend smashed his guitar on the ground, that they ended up on a good note 🤷‍♂️
