I have $500 knives and $10 knives and I've realized over the years, you are mostly paying for the name in the $500 range. I'll never buy another Benchmade, huge waste of money. My little Tac Force isn't a bad knife at all

I had a very nice Benchmade knife. I was fishing at the pier one day. I went to get my keys out my pocket, the keys caught on my knife and pulled it out too. The knife fell on the pier and went through the one gap in the boards that was big enough for it to fit. Straight into the ocean never to be seen by me again. $130 gone just like that.
Now I only use Mtech or Tac force knives. They're sharp enough for my use and if I lose one, oh well. I'm out $6.

    • @Colynthesavage
      @Colynthesavage 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Maybe you didn't carry your Benchmade how they're meant to be carried. I edc a Benchmade claymore. Tac force and mtech are no match to Benchmade. I put my claymore through cutting tasks that would snap the handle off the blade of your tac force lol. I've had it for close to 1 year. No chips in the blade. Minimal ware on the handle and blade.
Benchmade logic: Cuts anything you ask safely. Costs $100+
Tac force logic: Cut anything your Benchmade cuts no problem and you will be buying a new knife afterwards or you'll have a blade snap out of place and nick you in the eye all because you were dumb enough to buy a tac force.
      Costs: no more than $30

While watching some other knife videos, came across yours. No question they are inexpensive. But, I bought a few as gifts for my boys and they have carried them as EDC for several years, used them constantly and never had a complaint. Both had a clean snappy open with the finger assist, locked in place well, closed easily and cut. Decently sharp out of the box, with a quick sharpen they were even better. It's easy to get one's snob on given the massive variety available, including some fabulous knives. That said, it's also easy to dismiss the less expensive varieties as not worthy. Some may not be. There was no need for my boys to have $200 knives, yet. Had the tac force knives crapped out, I would have picked them up something else, a Kershaw, or Spyderco for example, better but still not top drawer. Didn't need to. As noted, the Tac Force knives have survived well through a substantial workout. They've been opened thousands of times and haven't failed yet. Considering they cost about $9, there is not much that warrants complaint.

A friend of mine uses his every day for work and his blade is tight, easy to sharpen, and he said that he's carried it every day for the past several years. He ordered one for me and it's a stout knife. sharp out of the box. nearly to tight to flip open with side bar, and is way to tight to flip open with the thumb assist. but I would be willing to bet that it'll last me for years to come.

The issue is their consistency of quality control. I've purchased them, handled tacs owned by others, and broken many. Just opening some have broken them. That isn't to say I haven't handled a good one, like I'm talking perfect alignment, no blade play, razor sharp out the factory. But the majority of tacs I've handled have all been dog shit. And that's only because they simply do not have a good quality control measure implemented into their manufacturing process.

I've personally owned at least 5 different style Tac-Force knives & had very few problems, those being that one wasn't super sharp out of box & the other being a significantly loosened belt clip, the latter being on a knife I've had for around 5 years & dropped many many times on concrete floors. I don't expect a $10-$15 knife to be indestructible but this guy makes it sound like they're gonna crumble to bits instantly. That first one didn't even say Tac-Force.

People get 10 dollar knives and get posed when they don’t look and perform like a 200 dollar knife.
If you know what you’re doing, a cheap knife can last you a long time. If you’re going cheap, first off, get a fixed blade, or a classic lockback folding hunter. Make peace with the fact it will need to be sharpened. Don’t torture the knife. Use it for what it was made for. And that’s it.

I’ve had a tf-469 I bought for like 7 dollars for about 4 years now. Let me tell you, for the price the quality of it is amazing. I carry it when I do heavy work because I wouldn’t care if I lose it or break it. The lock is still solid, it has no blade play, the coating surprisingly in good shape (considering that I probably opened a dozen cans with this thing). I also had bought a model that looked more simplistic so it doesn’t stick out. One thing though, the steel is terrible. I have to sharpen it back up constantly.

It’s fine if you want to criticize cheap knives for having bad paint jobs, but when you make nonsensical complaints you are outing yourself as someone who doesn’t know what you are talking about. There’s nothing wrong with a “thin liner lock” if it stays in place and the reason for drilling holes in a blade is to make it lighter for balance. As far as the blade being off-center, that is a matter of preference; you can adjust how tight/centered the blade is with a little thing called a screwdriver.

a knife is a knife. a $6 knife will just as easily tear through most flesh/tissue just as well as any other "pro" knife. If you are spending more than $30 on a knife for self defense. You are unfortunately ultimately losing, finance-wise
If your "life depends on it" then just buy a gun and get CCW license. for the money some people pay for "pro" knives, just buy a hipoint or canik TP9 chambered in 9mm for self defense and have it in a concealed holster or in your car once you have your carry or CCW license.

knives from master cutlery distributors like tac force and mtech are like the hi-points of the knife world. they're the cheapest options available and aren't as good quality as the next step up in price range, but in my experience they're still surprisingly usable despite their many flaws (at least depending on the model you get and QC. some are much less durable than others)

I got one for basically $1+ tax. (was $9.99 but I added it to an order and got free shipping -$8.99) and let me tell you...
...It's just terrible even for $10. It was dull right out of the box, the glassbreaker was attached by glue to a plastic spacer in the handle, the torsion bar makes it slam shut from about 45° when closing which would be dangerous (if it was sharp enough to cut something) and I had to cut a screw slot it the pivot to be able to tighten the wobbly blade. I had to put in work just to make it usable, and an hour later I had a new favorite knife...to leave in the drawer when I'm choosing a knife to carry for the day.
If you're at a gas station and you absolutely must have an ugly sharp piece of metal that folds up, right now, sure...buy a tac-force. Otherwise, go to Walmart or something, and get yourself a cheap Gerber, or Kershaw. It won't be 5 different colors with pictures of American flags, and punisher skulls on it, but it will be a well constructed (safer) knife with better blade steel.
Mtech are not really good knives either, but the ones I've seen are still better than this Tac-Force.

Got mine now (spring assisted speed karambit in black / red). In my opinion, it's a great knife, especially considering the price. It is solid, well built, nothing cheap or trash. The blade is very sharp and pointy out of the box, it opens fast and smooth, arresting firmly and there is absolutely not 1/1000 milimeter play - never mind if opened or closed. Also, the blade is centered absolutely and 100% exactly. To close, you have to press the liner firmly - which shows, that it has a strong resistance and stays in place when the blade is opened; being closed, the blade does not snap immediately - you have to add a good pressure, because you have to "work against" the spring, assistening the opening motion, which also is a very good characteristic, because one can control the closing very exactly. I got the impression that it locks very secure (nevertheless one should avoid impacts on the spine, for the knife is not made for this).
Once opened, the opening flipper protrudes on the downside of the handle in front of your finger, and - given, you do not have too small hands - so offers a protection if the blade is unlocked unfortunately, because it's the flipper which touches your finger first, and not the blade itself. The red spine with inside-serrations along the upper side of the handle helps - together with the very well crafted serrations on the handle and the upper part of the finger ring - to provide a good overall-grip, stabilizes both the finger ring on the rear and the front-part,where the blade rotates. The 4 holes in the handle save weigth and are a nice design - also, especially the hole next to the finger ring, can be used to fix a lanyard etc. Even the mentioned inside-serrated spine provides such possibilities.
For me the only - minor - downsize is the clip: The knife protrudes from the pocket a little bit - which is good for grabbing it, but bad for concealment - and using the clip, you can only carry tip down / finger ring down. To open it, the knife has not only the flipper, but thumb studs on both sides of the blade, too. The finger ring is "Emerson-Style", consisting of 2 parallel rings, which I do like for control.
In closed position, one can use the knife as an impact tool and, maybe, also as a glass breaker - the tip seems pointy and sturdy enough.
Maybe mroldman had bad luck with his tac force knife - me, I cannot find any bad characteristic. Perhaps one could consider, that these knives are produced over years and mine could be a younger one, where some flaws were eliminated. Or: I had extremely good luck. All in all I would give this knife 9 out of 10 stars.
Here in Europe we cannot buy it as cheap as in the states - I paid approx 25 dollars - but even for this price I guess, this knife is formidable. To give 10 stars, it should have a backlock or a triadlock and the wave feature, also the option to carry tip up / ring up. Glad to have it. Worth every Cent, and even would be worth a higher price. Congrats to Tac Force. And: mroldman - no offence. Just personal opinion.

yea i think tac force isnt really aiming for actual use knives and just goes for look a fancy thingy u can show off and not use, some tac force knives are pretty decent for a low price, u just gotta sharpen them more then high quality ones

I have high end blades also and have no issue carrying a tac-force folder for defense only purposes. I hate knife snobs....FYI those Kershaw knives you showed are made in the same place as the tac-force blades...hmmmm...

LOL! If John Gulish did his google search he'd know that this isn't a tac force but z-hunter (brand owned by master cutlery) tac force has nothing to do with this, to say that the karambit is tac force and make video about it really shows his level of intelligence. Anyway tac force does make similar style karambits and to be honest there is nothing wrong with them I find them besides being affordable, also really great! This guy is just a tool :D The camo knife is the ONLY tac force here and again every knife has it's purpose and I find them to be just fine.

I took it home, cleaned it up, researched it and realized I had found a $9 knife! Haha! So then I bought a Byrd (related to SpyderCo, I think?) because I wanted a "decent" but cheapish knife. But just this morning, I bought a big Tac Force because I think that it can serve its purpose - I'd like a nice new big knife that I don't really care about bc it's so cheap. It was $12 or so. Ten and a half inches. It might be the same as yours!

I have like 2 knives by tac force out of all 60 of my knives. I use it at the very minimum though. It is by no means my every day carry. You mentioned the brand I carry everywhere I go. Microtech!!! Yep, I am with you 100% microtech is over the top as far as quality and price. The price part being over the top is for a reason though. Its because Microtech isnt one of them brands you buy and regret day 1. My opinion is if you get a tac force then make sure you use it on something that will break it. They are not meant to last a lifetime like microtech. Gerber which is the same price range is even better than Tac force🤙🏻🤙🏻
