Description:
The new Doom took 2 days to be completed on ultra-nightmare while Final Doom: TNT Evilution took over 20 years for its first ever single segment nightmare run! Why has this not been done before now? Well, it wasn't before 2010 that map 09 (Stronghold) was completed for the first time on nightmare from pistol start by Xit-Vono.
Map 09 stood as the only uncompleted IWAD nightmare map for over 8 years after map 12 of plutonia was completed in 2002. In a full playthrough I would have to survive the first 8 maps before getting a single attempt on map 09 before then having to complete another 22 maps on nightmare without dying.
There is one advantage to doing map 09 after doing the first 8 maps, namely weapons like rocket launcher and plasma rifle. While there is a rocket launcher on stronghold, it is quite late and more dangerous to grab, also there is no plasma rifle. Unfortunately, map 09 comes after map 08, obviously, and map 08 happens to be a very difficult map because of the final room. Even if you survive you are very likely to start stronghold with under 100% health, so a disadvantage compared to pistol start. I've died over half the time on map 08, here I got very lucky and had good health for stronghold.

"TNT: Evilution, released on June 17, 1996, forms one half of Final Doom, a commercial product which consists of two 32-level Doom II IWADs (the other being The Plutonia Experiment). The "TNT" in the title stands for "The New Technology", and represents the name of the mapping team, TeamTNT, who created Evilution. It was completed in November 1995, and was to have been released for free. However, a publishing deal was brokered by John Romero the night before its planned release, resulting in the commercial publication of Final Doom by id Software. This commercialization of TNT: Evilution caused a certain amount of controversy within the Doom community, and Evilution is consequently one of Doomworld's "Top 10 Infamous WADs", albeit not for reasons of gameplay or level design. "
Final Doom: TNT Evilution is the last IWAD to be completed on nightmare. Ultimate Doom is not too difficult with 8(9) maps each episode, Doom II: Hell on Earth was completed on nightmare in 1998 while Final Doom: The Plutonia Experiment was completed last year.
This should also be the longest doom nightmare demo ever recorded.

I consider it good because at its core it's still Doom, but the level design is just...ugh. It's not a masterpiece.

@@evdestroy5304 Plutonia has some of the best map design in the classic doom games. I do agree it is too hard for noobs like me though. I’d still consider it a masterpiece though.

in old map versions, on the last map you could not get the Red key and get to the Icon,,, so it effectively made TNT impossible to finish.
Not true. The missing key is in a secret map (31), thus not mandatory, and with a bit of skill you could skip most of that map, making the missing key not required.

Modern sourceports fix the missing yellow key automatically.
There's also the fixed IWAD that was included in id anthology, and now you can get it from GOG.

In all my years, since 96, I played TnT but I kept trying to beat the last level, over and over. Never ever figured it out. See I had always thought you set it up with the rocket as per usual on the Icon of Sin. But I didn't realise till about a year ago that you use the BFG instead. Mind blown 21 years later.

Is this the most difficult/impressive speed run you’ve done in your opinion, or is there something else you’ve felt shined brighter?
I'm not sure, I don't know how lucky I got when I did this. I'd say plutonia on nightmare was more difficult, but my 2nd clear a few months ago wasn't difficult at all. So I think my current doom 2 nightmare record is best when it comes to difficult + good time and effort combination. My most optimized speedrun however is my ultimate doom episode 3 in 3:33, the time is so incredible I would never want to run against it ever. I plan to improve the doom 2 nightmare time soon though, so I expect that to be my best in the future, heh.

I know maps 2 and 9 have never been completed in vanilla doom and require crazy luck. But with your skills, have you ever considered trying a 30nm 100% secrets movie run? Or for plutonia? It seems there's nothing else left for you to accomplish.

I'm sure it's possible to do all levels for both, but it would take so much effort and if you get a lot of bad luck it could take forever to finish. I did plan on doing plutonia maps 11-20 and 21-30, but I doubt I'll finish those, and level 1-30 would be too much work, I don't have the motivation to attempt something like that anymore. That does leave something for someone else, maybe someone crazy enough comes along in the future, but not very likely :)
Zero Master what are your goals now? Nightmare doom II you said? Even crazier to do it no save/load. Ever think to try Heretic/Hexen again? Hexen has new tricks and is sub 10 with time lost.
doom 2 nm will probably be my last speedrun (assuming I reach my goal time). I like heretic and hexen, and I would have liked to done speedruns for both of them (my 1 video for hexen was quite low effort), but the lack of sourceports for those games makes it a bit difficult to get a working demo and a good quality video. The main reason though is that I don't want to invest a lot of time into it, also veovis is decent at both of them, but I'm sure they can be improved further.
So to sum up, I would have liked to do more, but lack of time + motivation means I'll probably never get around to it.

This is NOT a criticism post by any means. Your skills are insane and honestly I would classify you as a Doom God. You deserve that title not just for your skills either but for your knowledge of all of the maps and how you can exploit them such as clipping through the walls with no cheats activated. Anyways, so my post is to point out how I noticed you spend a lot of time killing the monsters..now I know in a lot of these cases you have to kill them to advance onwards..but maybe you could try finding more ways around them perhaps to decrease your time. Again, this is not a criticism post just more of an observation
of course he could improve it but he is human. This run is already pretty tight and risky at many points
i wont forget that human bbq shit map on nightmare. map 9 took a lot of attempts too. of course i completed nightmare with many many save slots, if that is even an accomplishment.

The maps 11-20 and 21-30 for TNT have been done with nightmare all secrets, I think map 1-10 would be too much for anyone. Map 07-09 for tnt would be too extreme, and map 02 and 04 become completely different where it would just be complete madness to even try to look at making the episode possible, let alone the whole wad.
As for plutonia, I believe maps 1-10, 11-20 and 21-30 can perhaps be done without too much trouble, but the chance of going through all of it in a single run would probably be around 1 in a 1.000.000, so I'd say none of them are ever going to be done :)
I ll try to do map 02 TNT on NM all secrets ;-)
I mean the episode runs are undone (map 01 through map 10), I don't know if there are any remaining individual levels that aren't done.

nah, I never want to play this wad again. It was fun to do though, but there's so much else that would be a better use of time than to try and optimize something like this. There's a lot of long open areas with few monsters that are kind of unintresting in this wad, lots of time on trivial things, now that it's done I need something shorter.

Im curious as to why for a run like this you decide not to do as many glitches/tricks as in the UV run. Is it because you would skip too many important things such as ammo, health armor?

There are 3 tricks I do in the uv run, on map 17 I do a glide which is dangerous, on nightmare it is extremely unpredictable due to respawn. On map 18 I do a rocket jump, which will cost a lot of health if done without the invulnerability, but I need that for the last section of the map so it's also extremely dangerous to attempt in a nightmare run. Then we have map 25 linedef skip, which requires a rocket boost, this trick is very very hard even on UV, nightmare doesn't make much difference, but the normal route isn't too dangerous and should I fail the boost then there is a big chance I will die. Also in every case I should end up with less health\armor, though I would probably save ammo. In short, because they are too dangerous and I don't care about the time.
