  • AMAZON HAWK 250 Motorcycle Maintenance: Tackling NOISY VALVES for Smooth Riding Experience!
I think I finally adjusted the valves to a quiet, but safe clearance spec! These bikes have very noisy valves from the factory, even in spec. I set the valve clearance to exactly .003mm for the intake and .003mm for the exhaust. The bike starts much quicker and seems to idle better. Stay tuned for the carb tuning and first ride in AZ!

    1) Intake Stroke
(From top dead center, as piston comes down intake valve opens or goes down)
    2. Compression Stroke (intake valve is closed as piston reaches Bottom dead center. Piston starts to rise back to the top)
    SPARK
    3. Power stroke, starts ** (piston is at top dead center. This is where you adjust valve lash. Both valves are closed or in the up position. ( Neither valve is opening or closing on this stroke.)
    4. Exhaust stroke (piston is at bottom the exhaust valve opens or goes down as the piston returns to the top)
The exhaust valve closes or goes back up as the intake valve opens or goes down.) This starts the intake stroke again.
TDC Intake stroke starts again (this is not where you adjust valve lash). This is where exhaust valve closes as the intake valve opens at top dead center. DO NOT ADJUST VALVE HERE.
    Repeat process.
    Hope this helps someone

i used .002 intake and .003 exhaust and its quieter, but they are noisy by design and remember that loose valves are happy valves.

That's probably about where I set them this time. It's definitely quieter, but you can still hear them.

    I did a gasket job on a 1992 honda elite 80
I checked and adjusted the valves just like this
    Great video

I have 2 RPS hawk 250s and I use one of them now for parts. You can totally have the baffle/spark arrestor out of my parts bike. I live by Bullhead city Arizona so probably around 3 - 4 hours from where you are at. I also removed my baffle out of the muffler because I get improved performance and it sounds better. I literally just took it out last week haha that's funny I'm seeing your video now. Anyways I could just mail it to you or something. I also heard that the valves are supposed to be set between .005mm and .007mm, not .003 so I'm wondering where you are getting the .003 from?

I did this I think I did it wrong because now it’s doesn’t start and white smoke is coming from my exhaust where it’s bolted on and it’s making a weird growl noise from the engine and the exhaust gets super hot off the jump I thing I might of damaged the engine do you have any ideas what it could be?

I think there is a chance that they are too tight. Do you have a compression tester? Tight valves would open earlier, causing lower compression. Also, there is a chance that you adjusted the valves 180 degrees from the compression stroke. The "T" will actually come around twice in a full engine cycle. One on the compression stroke and one on the opposite. This would cause all sorts of issues. What was the final valve lash that you set both the intake and exhaust to?

@@TyposGarage yea I don’t have a compression tester I think I wasn’t on the compression stroke I just bought the bike new and the valves where so tight the lash was .005 for both it’s also smoking from where the exhaust bolts on I can’t put my finger on what the smell is

@@TyposGarage and the tappet where the valve stem meets the rockers isn’t aligned it’s at a slight angle and isn’t on perfect flat

I’m also having the same issue however I think I’m on the right path because my bike is a lot less noisy but I think more adjustments need to be made also since you have your hawk brand new is there a gasket for the exhaust manifold?

What type battery do you have ?

I ended up going with a lithium ion battery from Amazon. The bike has been sitting for like a month and I was just able to start it up without any issues. "MMG YTZ7S Lithium Ion Sealed Powersports Battery"
