The one thing, no matter in sport or track mode, is that you can not turn off torque vectoring. Ford claims that it works so well for turning that unless turned off from a pro tuner, you cannot turn that off. Just traction control (wheel spin, which pulls power from slipping wheels through drive train) and stability management (applies brakes and pulls power when sensing too much roll, or car sliding, almost like drifting). Torque vectoring is the car slowing down the inside tires and speeding up outside to allow it to turn better. Hence why ST owners can actually get the rear end to slide out, almost like drifting, because they are one of the view FWD cars that has oversteer. Normally, FWD cars suffer from understeer. (They go straight when turning too fast).
One of the bits of info about the ESC/TSC is you do not want traction control on nor should it be in Sport mode on the track..it will eat up your brakes bad. You need to completely disable traction control if you're really pushing the car. also, if you pre-load your wastegate, as stated, definitely get a tune for it.. Another thing thats nice to know if you're out hooning your car, is Ford gave you a little power assist if you go WOT...your TPS tells your PCM to temporarily disengage the A/C... so you dont need to worry about having A/C on and remembering to turn it off when you are running someone ^_^
Many say the 2016-2018 Ford Focus ST models (the last ones made, sadly) are the best, fastest most powerful best equipped & most importantly most Reliable/rugged & less problematic of all the Focus STs. Prob same applies to Focus RS but not sure. Please advise. Thanxx
Aside from the intake sensor being slightly different, 2013-2018 models are mechanically almost identical. I have a few buddies with newer and older STs in the range, and speed and reliability just varies individually based on driving habits, maintenance and mod choices
The main thing is your preference on aesthetics...interior is a bit different (steering wheel, gauges), and the bumpers/valance differ... but one of the biggest differences and actual performance upgrades is the 2014.5+ have bigger front rotors/caliper brackets. If you try to put a 2013/early 2014 on a 2015+ it wont fit at all. Auto parts stores dont often know this and will sell you a 2012+ caliper/brakcet/rotor/etc.... they're wrong. But the engine/trans are identical between all the STs.
I don’t know if it’s just me but the car feels and drive a lot better with out the stability control and “torque vectoring” the steering just feels more responsive. Maybe a placebo but who knows
I put it into Sport mode as soon as i start the car every time, unless its raining or when i was datalogging and was keeping myself from going into boost lol...I hate when i forget to activate Sport Mode...then i realize the tires were trying to slip and the car bogs out 🙄
Sync 2 looks so much cooler than sync 3. Sync 3 is really dull and has so many limitations on customization. I wouldn't actually reccomend tightening the factory waste gate. It is made of brittle plastic and is already prone to failure, especially if you push the car alot and or have mods. Mine blew itself apart very early on, probably like 28k miles or so. Id reccomend the mountune "recirculation valve". It's the same design as OEM, but made of metal components. I push 21-22psi out of it, and it's been holding up with no issues. You also get a significant 'whoosh' sounds too. It's a super easy install: just 3 Alan head bolts.
how’d you do that? and is there a way to get rid of the traction control off light while in sport? that’s the only thing that bothers me, i don’t like seeing lights on my dash lol
@@landonmarriott2027 I got my car mapped at a place called wayside performance in Coventry (UK). Ive got stage 2 additional parts in the engine as well, Not sure if you can turn traction control off all the time, pretty sure there will be a way but I'm not aware of it, I leave it on most of the time as it doesn't make much of a difference anyway, I had the car on a dyno and it's running at 310bhp, its nice 🚗💨

I actually have a ‘15 with SYNC 2, I believe SYNC 3 only comes in ‘16 and up
Can confirm, also have a 2015
@@jasonpoletta1797 I have a 2015 and I've never seen another 2015 that was a pre-facelift. 👀 PFL was 2013 and 2014

Good video, Nick! The card slot + clip are nice quality of life things. 2015 ST2/3 was a weird year because it's facelift, but came with Sync 2
I was wondering why my 2015 can still do that lol
Great tips for the ST, looking forward to seeing what else you have in store for us!

Your air box mod is great, super clean

Bro where did you get those rims from!?!?! Absolutely sick!!!
I have a 2015 face-lift and can change wallpaper on mine exactly the same as you've shown I'm in the UK if that makes a difference
You can tell how much he cares the car still looks brand new inside and out
How much do a toon cost
I think you will find facelift models still have this feature as long as the image is 800x384 you can upload what you want
I have sync 3 and can customize my background
As much as I love my 2018 wrx, I always miss my 2013 focus ST.
i have a 15 you can change the wallpaper on the sync 3 its not just the pfl all years can change that btw
EU models had sync 2 / mft also fitted to facelift ST's. There are even facelift ST's that don't have a touchscreen (sync 1?)
Are we all gonna pretend we didn’t see the power wire routed through the door jam?
Can you show to tighten the blow off please
How's the phone mount working for you? Any links?
I got it Amazon I think but it works really well and can hold the phone even during aggressive driving
my focus st3 is 2016 and it has sync 2
What’s your wheel offset
18x8.5 +35
i have a 2013 ST3 why does mine not have carbon interior trim?

Good info. I have a 2013 ST that I bought in 2014. I didnt know any of this. 🤣🤣
2015s and first half of 2016s also have sync 2
Like to know how to tighten the wessgate again I got an 13 I’m trying to do some things too yours is looking good I’m from the 302
Don’t it requires a tune it would be better to get a turbosmart actuator

The wastegate isn’t plastic, that’s the bypass valve/recirculating valve/ bov.

It’s not got torque vectoring it’s got brake vectoring
it is, 100%, Torque Vectoring Control. Literally called that by Ford.
