I've had it chronically for so long that I've just learned to live with it. It's always been perceptual to me. I don't have the anxiety most people talk about with DPDR. Life just never stops feeling like a dream/movie/game and I'm always aware of that.
Disappointing that there still isn't really much that can be done. I've tried grounding myself in the world as much as possible: working out, socializing, and just having more hobbies that are physically involved, but it has surprisingly helped very little. All that helps is the distraction. Gotta always stay focused on something. The more focus the better.

This is exactly what i feel like ever since i was 4, everything in my life feels like a movie scene in third person. Like its some sort of narrative in my life. The worse part is if I anticipate something that will also be a script or a story that i put myself into, i know what emotions might happen and ive pictured the event in my mind like the climax of a story, then improvise from there like im a play. its as if im the viewer, the character, and the author all at the same time without knowing where to go. its bothering me but ive lived with it for so long that ive always leaned on it to observe situations and describe them in great detail because it is a scene of a movie with an analysis to go with it, even if its my own life. Im worried everything in my life will be viewed as a movie, even big things are preplanned like a death of a loved one or getting my house or even getting a romantic partner. Everything is a movie and I dont know how to stop thinking of it as a movie/comic/game/show, i simply dont know.

Derealization has become such a big part of my life to the point where I’m rarely not derealized. It is such a rare occurrence to feel real to me that whenever I snap out of it I cry and laugh out of pure relief, even though I only get up to 2 minutes max of it. Not many people understand how much it can effect a person’s life. It’s a trauma response I learned at a young age after many years of pain, the first 8 years of my life were shit and because of that I have trauma responses so extreme I get compared to a soldier with PTSD by everyone. I’m in therapy and am currently discovering more about it, it has effected my ability of processing, learning, trusting, and communicating with people.

@gloruas_ don't worry my friend, I've had the derealization symptom as early as the age of 6, I'm now 39 years old. It's the way your brain processes things around it. I think some people have a more sensitive nervous systems than others. Rest assured it's not a serious illness that will kill you or drive you mad :). Yes it's very annoying and can be very debilitating at some times but you can learn to adapt and live with it and control it to live a normal life.
Three things you need to focus on if you could achieve them you will eventually control it and lead a normal life.
1- diet( eliminate or greatly reduce any stimulant foods from your diet such as coffee, tea, energy drinks, soft drinks, even processed juices) and sweets and fast foods. As all these trigger the anxiety symptoms.
2-do aerobic exercise, such as( running or walking) every day between 20-30 minutes a day or at least 3-4 days a week.
3- have enough sleep at least 8 hours a day. Never skip your sleep by staying awake till late night as this triggers the derealization/depersonalization symptoms.
If you could control these three areas in your life. I guarantee you will lead a successful normal life. Wish you a good health my friend.

CBT is the better way to get out of this disorder. Because derealization and depersonalization disorder has the same psychological processes than panic disorder. If you still struggling with theses disorders, it’s because you probably keep avoiding situations that makes you scared, but in reality there are not dangerous. Remember the first time you ride a bike or jumped into a pool. You were scared as hell. Look at you today ❤️

I went outside for awhile but it didn't change anything so I just tried to ignore it, even though it was everything going on at the time. It was truly a terrible experience, and I had that going on while I was almost trafficked (I had a really eye-catching dress because it was silver) and a weird guy kept filming me and another one came near me and smiled at me weirdly (both like 30-50) and I was underage. (Greek sht yes we're allowed in clubs) And that guy who filmed me started calling his friends to come in the club and when each of them came he'd point at me.

Watching thousand videos about it reading everything about it. I didn't take a pill to get rid of it I didn't take a drink to get rid of it I didn't go to therapy to get rid of it. I prayed. And kept moving forward I acted like I didn't care about it one bit and it slowly got better and better and better and now it's gone I don't deal with it at all anymore. I will add a couple notes though I was drinking two monster energy drinks everyday I stopped drinking the monster and it got a lot better all of a sudden. This is the most simplified way to put it your nervous system is thinking there is a fire when there's no fire. Retrain your brain tell it it doesn't need to freak out and move forward if you keep focusing on this that's all you'll feel. Ignore it and it will go away and trust me I understand you ignore it 2 months straight and see no progress give it time it's going to work I promise. I am now free🙌

In my opinion it is a starting point to something more seriously like suicide others attempted with this disorder and thinking about attempting suicide depersonalization-derealization is a major serious mental health condition I understand is part of our protective system bur when it keeps us in that State for a long time it becomes unusually and seriously for us to to cope with not to mention it brings on depression increase increase anxiety the medical professionals has to do way more better then that with the amount of people that's suffering from that disorder. it will be a lot of suicides and a lot of attempted suicides SAD it may be neurological issue but if the medical field put the right study it can be reverse if doctors put the effort of work into it by carefully study the brain and the nervous system from a deeper understanding it has to be done no excuses miss me with the BS.
The I don't know. We don't know word what doctors say nominally nowadays what kind of BS it's that what patients that's suffering with DPDR want to live in a society feeling like this who would want to live.. on the plantant witht a disorder like that this is terrible and unacceptable the medical field haven't been addressed this issue that literally makes you feel like you are a zombie you're not even living your natural human experience that can f***** up and very disturbing to live with that disorder it is a serious health pandemic needs to be addressed right away.✊💪💪

I have it all my life, or more accurately since early childhood and I don't remember how it was before I had dpdr and how I got it. I got used to it but I don't really see how would I be able to get rid of it at this point.

Try to get some anxiety meds and talk to your doctor don’t be scared it’s truly nothing to be frightened off at all I’ve suffered with it over 25 years it’s basically extreme anxiety that brings it on

Very limited information presented here and far too much about medication despite the author acknowledging there is no evidence for its use. Learning grounding strategies and understanding your triggers for this type of dissociation is effective, empowering and Free and has no side effects. Please do not use medication if you experience depersonslisation as your primary difficulty - it is liable to be ineffective and quite likely to make things worse for you

What really helped me with DP/DR was a heroic dose of mushrooms. It's like I became the center of the universe and made me realize what occurred. I felt enlightened, and I would recommend this for anyone struggling with DP/DR

It sounds like your brain is just overwhelmed on the subconscious level and your consciousness is trying to fight that weird floaty dreamlike state to assure survival, yet that itself makes you feel like the only answer is death. Otherwise there is nothing left to do but live on and continue to discover what the next day brings. Its what everyone else does just on a less conscious level and as bizarre as this seems its just the way animals work, yet some who are over or under evolved for their purpose and show mutation are the ones who suffer unfortunately. Its the masses vs us. I am not derealizing, I just have an interest in psychology and that weirdly enough puts me in the backseat of my own thoughts and I can look objectively. I also have adhd and bipolar.

In my personal experience, there is nothing that can be done to help anyone, if you exclude the option of getting turned into a drooling zombie.
Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, trauma, no help at all.
My last Psychologist told me I should kill myself, so I stopped going to see her after that.
