    Nobody in their right mind would be maniacally laughing while falling headfirst from a skyscraper. Except the Joker, of course.

      Not sure about that. Many people laugh in extreme situations. Even in great fear some just laugh. Happened to me as well during a car accident. Was sure i was gonna die, but couldnt stop laughing.

      tommaspawn I don't think that would've worked. In whichever stories Harley is, that iteration of the Joker has a bit of an uncanny charm to make him likable. This Joker is more of a downright psychopath, cold and manipulative. No one really wants to get too close to him.

    Heath Ledger was previously known for being the stud and good guy in these romantic comedies and stuff. Not to mention Brokeback mountain, which is why DC fans SERIOUSLY doubted Nolan's decision to cast him as the Joker. Not to mention Ledger NEVER played a villain before.

    The scene where he falls nearly having his last laugh meant a lot. Not that many people know, but it was the most fearless thing he has ever done. He has almost brought proof that Batman was not a hero. He thought he won. If they made him die falling, it would make more sense, showing why Batman is not the hero we deserve. Heath ledger has made a big commitment to this act. The joker really is the Agent of Chaos. Always.
    I still remember when I saw this in theaters, everyone gasped and was shocked when he fell, meaning that Batman nearly lost.

      Roy W For someone like Batman to nitpick the details like that and justify his actions by technicalities isn't befitting of his character at all. In both situations he had the opportunity to save someone from certain death. For a 'hero' to abstain from doing so over something as silly as "well I pushed this guy but the other guy was already here..." calls into question his entire moral code. The circumstance leading to Joker's fall were the consequences of his own actions, just as they were for Ra's.

      I thought it was because the joker believed he had finally 'corrupt' batman, as he did Dent. The joker is manipulative he wanted to show that even the best of people, for example batman and Dent, could be manipulated to 'eat eachother'. Joker knows that in order to do this to batman he must force him to break his 'One rule'.. That is to kill.
      So in summary he was laughing because he beloved he had finally forced batman to break his one rule, thus showing even the best are corruptible.
      Joker is always willing to die in order to prove how corruptible everyone is. That is why early in the movie he gave Dent a gun and put it to his head.. He knows that if he makes them kill him, he has won.
      Just a thought..

    • @smilingnihilist9620
      @smilingnihilist9620 9 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      MrInkblots There are subtle details to suggest he was desperate, maybe even insecure, in his misanthropy. In the mob scene, when Gambol calls him a freak, his eyes glisten, suggesting irritation he sharply breaks off of his trail of thought, changing the focus of the conversation from "a guy like me" to "I know why you (the mob) are afraid to go out at night," as if to deflect the offense away from himself on to the others. When another mobster calls him crazy, he somewhat angrily say "no, I'm not" and his eyes glisten. In the interrogation scene, he tells Batman "to them, you're just a freak, like me. . . they'll cast you out, like a leper," showing that he is aware what people think of him, takes it to heart and wants to project his social alienation onto Batman.
      Later, when the Russian mobster calls him a freak, he says "freak" back in a strained way and briefly loses his temper, which is out of character for him. Finally, after his social experiment fails, Batman says "What were you trying to prove, that deep down, everyone's as ugly as you? You're alone." You can tell that he hit the nail on the head because Joker is clearly upset, but tries to hide it w/ some unconvincing lines like "you gotta do everything yourself," and "it's a funny, funny world we live in," before trying to change the subject to "you know how I got these scars?" The last shot we see of him as he's laughing while hanging shows facial expressions indicating discomfort and sadness, rather than sadistic glee.
      I think the whole agent of chaos thing was at least partially a cover. He was just a human being in the end, just like Batman.

    Heath was incredible in this movie. The Joker's dark, disappointed visage at 1:01 when his big plan and philosophical stance failed was so well done.

    I am so glad Heath Ledger won an oscar for playing the Joker he nailed it! I wished that Heath Ledger would have lived on to play in Sucide Squad along side Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn! That would have been awsome! Sad that he died so young!

      Aimee Adesso This joker ain't got no time for romance. He is too busy getting in the Batman's head and fucking him up. He even says, "you complete me" to Batman in the interrogation scene.
      In hindsight, that would be awesome if there was another movie with this joker. But no toxic romancing with Harley Quinn. Just no!

    • @RCAvhstape
      @RCAvhstape 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shreyasingh117 In TAS where Harley Quinn was invented, Joker had no romantic feelings for Harley; she was the one who was in love. Joker just kept her around because she was a great henchman, and often he didn't care much about her at all. Suicide Squad was a flawed film no matter who was cast as Joker; but a straight up Batman film with Ledger and Robie would've been cool.

    The “funny” thing is you could argue Batman breaks his one rule with Harvey in the end. He tackles Harvey to save Gordon’s son, but in doing so, Harvey falls to his death. Just another way that the Joker ultimately “won.”

    I feel like the reason joker is laughing while he's falling is because he finally got batman to break his one rule by having batman drop him to his death but when batman brings him back up he gets disappointed and says "you are truly incorruptible" but that's just my thoughts on it
