cjflo umm it is irony. They imprisoned joker with the other guy( forgot his name), but actually they imprisoned the other guy with joker. They did the opposite of what they wanted to do, therefore making it irony

The Joker is imprisoned, locked inside a room and being both held up against a wall and punched by Batman.
Yet, he's the one calling the shots. He's the one in power, even when locked in a room and being brutally attacked.
That is, by the very definition of the word, ironic.

Heath Ledger was only TWENTY SEVEN years old when he filmed this movie and you would never be able to tell. To give a performance like this at such a young age is absolutely jaw dropping. This is a performance that the highest caliber of actors that have had decades in the industry could only dream of giving.

Exactly. Phoenix played an amazing Joker, truly. But Ledger laid the ground work for how terrifying this character could be in live action and this performance won't be topped. 14 years later and any new Joker will always be compared to this legendary performance. It's a true shame he left the world so young because of prescription drugs, like so many do. I'm convinced he would have had several more ground breaking roles in the last decade and a half if he was still here.

Batman’s philosophy: Humans are naturally good. Their environment makes them act badly.
The Joker’s philosophy: Humans are naturally bad. Their environment makes them act good.
That’s an extreme oversimplification, but their ideological conflict is based on human nature. This is why the Joker is fine with Batman killing him. It’s proves his point. It shows that everyone, even the most incorruptible person, can be corrupted. That our nature, when “all the chips are down” devolves into chaos, not of order. Getting Harvey Dent to turn was the Jokers masterpiece. So much so that Batman and the Gordon choose to lie because they knew how devastating it would be if Gotham found out.
They respect each other, because they both have good points. This is truly a beautifully written movie and it’s no wonder that it set a new standard for what a superhero movie should be.

From my understanding that implies the police and law enforcement have a pure and righteous ideology on an individual level that can’t be realized because of the society they exist in. Perhaps that’s true in Gotham but certainly not in this world. Insofar as he is referring to the film’s reality, part of the corruption that led Gotham to become a haven of crime was corruption that had to exist in every level of law enforcement including the people he suggests “are only as good as the world *allows* them to be.

This scene is terrifying, in a way: Joker's in jail but he has all the cards. He always had them, he gloats about it. People laugh about the fact that he says he has no plan when he clearly does, but let's not forget that he doesn't think like we do: his plans work because he knows how to read people. I'm not even sure he was planning on lying to Batman by switching the addresses for Dent and Rachel, he could have decided to do that on a whim, just for the laughs and the chaos that would ensue

oh, he totally had the switch up planned, that's what makes it so genius. Since he saw Batman unhesitantly jump off that roof for Rachel in the penthouse, he knew how close Rachel truly was to him and Dent. By switching the addresses and killing Rachel he could not only punish Batman for choosing love over justice, as he knew who Batman would choose but also send Dent even closer to the edge while securing that he would live due to Batman's intervention. I bet that even if he did choose Dent over Rachel or if Dent died somehow though, that he would have carried on with a different plan.

The whole entire point of this joker is that’s he’s a liar. He parades as someone without a plan but he constantly always was planning ahead. He knew bat would go to china so he tried to plan ahead. He knew Rachel was going to die that plan was solely to emotionally damage Dent I don’t think he accounted for the accident but he benefited from it regardless. His plan to blow the boats up. He planned ahead if the people didn’t blow each other up. And the hospital bombing he went there to fire dent up and turned him into a murder machine. He was literally a man with a plan at all times. Including this one.

He literally manipulated him to chose Dent over his ex-girlfriend.

He switched the address because joker knew batman would choose love over justice

he punished him for choosing love over justice. the joker knew that batman would save Rachel over dent so he switched them to trick batman. like that he destroyed batman's soul and kept dent alive to turn into two-face. it was a brilliant idea for his plan.

Thank you for explaining the scene I just watched. I totally didn't understand what was happening literally in front my very eyes

After seeing him throw himself from a penthouse to save her he knew he was going to go after Rachel, so he made a switch so that he could break both Batman and Dent (ideally). Batman wasn't interrogating Joker, it was the other way around, Joker was checking how he would react.

by switching address, either way Batman chose, he will not get what he wants. Maybe this could mess with batman's mind. and Joker is trying to drag batman into madness or the level he is at ?
