As someone who wasn't a fan when they announced this movie as a musical, this trailer really sells why this works. They are two crazy people who just bust out into songs to describe the situation. It fits their characters really well.
I wouldn't say I wasn't a fan, just doubtful of how effective the musical route would be... this trailer made me cry when I heard him start singing. There is a sad yearning for joy that I feel and empathize with. I'm so excited for this damn movie!

I love that they didn’t reveal the story of the movie in the trailer. Too many modern trailers are just recaps of the entire movie. But this told you just enough without giving away the plot but enough to grab your interest.

Instead, they used him as a vehicle to channel their own fear, not realizing how this destroys the most helpless, Arthur, among us. When the reporter says, “A monster,” it breaks my heart. Personally felt like it was a pretty good criticism on modern society in some aspects, specifically how people with debilitating mental health conditions are left high and dry by mental health professionals, or the difficulty in seeking (and affording) it. BUT I’ve also always loved the Joker’s character as just a pure agent of chaos, a chaotic madman who did deplorable things to others simply for the giggles of it, and has an obsession with Batman. In many Batman comic book continuums, the Joker’s origins are never revealed, and I always loved that. Sympathetic villains can be an awesome thing to go through with quality writing, and I’m certainly not trying to imply the first movie didn’t have quality writing! It’s just not the version of Joker I like the best. (Likewise, I kinda feel as if lazy and/or poor quality writing can portray “sympathetic villains” in such a way that it may make people, in real life, feel as if their own crappy actions are justified as they’ve been victimized, relating to these sympathetic villains and feeling empowered by them. Literally not a single soul goes through this world without difficulty and trial, but I don’t see almost 8 billion people constantly victimizing each other. I love every Ounce of this Film. It has so many Layers that many cannot see it directly or need to catch up. The Music was added to make the Relationship between Arthur Fleck and Lee Quinzel romantic. She loved the Joker and not the real Person which is Arthur Fleck. This makes a lot of Sense too (a different Approach of the Relationship with Joker and Harley) that Lee later on finds the "other" Joker and sticks to an Idea of Him. The Plottwist in the End is fantastic. This Film is another great way to reflect on Humanity. What started out as an untreated Disease (or many false Information in the History) led to a false Inspiration / led to a Misinterpretation in the Present. As mentioned, many Audience couldn't see it right away because there are so many Informations at once in this Film. The Music was wonderful sarcastic approach to over all how Humanity copes up or covers a lot through Music. Because sets the Mood of the Emotion and through that we tend to forget or neglect the Objective part of Life. "That is Entertainment" or better said Distraction! Again, what a fantastic Move. Love it!

I feel like some people think they’re cool for trashing this movie but haven’t given a thought on what message it’s trying to send. This is probably exactly what the director imagined would happen; people in the movie idolizing “Joker”, being overly aggressive and critical because Arthur finally chose himself, are the same cynical people trashing this movie for it not being something they wanted it to be. People (in the movie including Lee) only rooted for “Joker”, not Arthur, and didn’t love him for who he actually is as a whole but put him on a pedestal as some kind of a hero and worshipped him like they’re in some kind of a cult. Once Arthur realized and confessed he couldn’t keep up anymore, people’s reactions changed 180°. Many fans who watched the initial Joker expected the sequel to be something more dramatic and entertaining; so when they saw that Arthur was just Arthur, they acted just the same as the fans of Joker within the movie. Everyone wants catharsis and hates to be shown the reality. Of course if Lee loved him as a whole it would’ve been beautiful but in real life, not all love stories have a happy ending. And in the end, you’re the only person who can accept yourself for who you are, unconditionally. I think it’s one thing to not like a movie but another thing to scoff and comment on it with so much disrespect.
Fun fact: arkham asylum was done in a town called belleville which is located in new jersey. it has always been an abandoned asylum and when they were putting this in production the sign of said asylum was changed to say arkham.
Phoenix's performance is incredible-his range is just unreal. I still remember watching the first Joker on my Bouya film projector, and it was a whole experience. Can't wait to see what he brings to this new one!

I just saw this today and I’ve got to tell you in all my 44 years of life on earth this is the first movie I have ever walked out on. It was a snooze fest and damn near a musical. They really dropped the ball on this one.
People loved Toby Maguire's Spider-Man (2002), but there were so many changes to the original teenage character from the '60s that I walked out and didn't watch any more Spider-Man or Amazing Spider-Man movies until _Spider-Man: Homecoming._ So I was so-so about those actors coming back in a multiverse story and upset they fridged a character and didn't have the Sinister Six.
Well did we want _Joker 2_ to be a musical? No. Did we want Arthur to become a psychopathic killer? Maybe. Did we want him to be a hero to the downtrodden and poor? Maybe. I'm not sure he's sane enough to be some kind of successful crime boss.

What is the point of me proving anything to you or anyone?! This is a waste of time. I just expressed my opinion! This UNDERFILM = TRASH must fail. I told you, but you didn’t read carefully, why they didn’t give an Academy Award to the 2018 film “Venom”?! These films are similar, plus or minus. Lady Gaga is not an actress, and Joaquin Phoenix is not an actor - he is a grimacing clown, like Tom Hardy, and plus he is the same in his acting from film to film where he appears. He, like Lady Gaga, is a disgrace to the Oscars. Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino, Daniel Day-Lewis, Anthony Hopkins and I don't want to go on (there are not many of them) are real actors, and real actresses are Meryl Streep, Halle Berry, Elizabeth Taylor, Octavia Spencer, Cate Blanchett. Right now, the Oscars and not only in movies are awarded either for skin color, or sexual orientation, or gender, or for antics and hackwork, like these two idiots, but NOT FOR TALENT.☝☝☝☝☝

i just read a newspaper article which covered that statement, that Todd made. I think, he said that to reassure the skeptical part of the audience, anyways i'm still skeptical about it but i guess we'll see.
Which tracks, because it was essential to the first one. I watched the Oscar's for the first time in years - because I wanted the movie, Joaquin, and the score to win. I was elated when the score won - it was almost another character in the film, and the best example of how much a good one can add to a film.

The fact that they gave it a real title and not just “Joker 2” and that they put so much thought into the trailers…I have faith that this could be a really good sequel.

I love that they didn’t reveal the story of the movie in the trailer. Too many modern trailers are just recaps of the entire movie. But this told you just enough without giving away the plot but enough to grab your interest.

Todd Phillips and Matt Reeves really captured that dark, psychological, and realistic ambiance that I grew up knowing DC comics to be.

The opening of this trailer says it all. The moment the reporter says, “He’s a monster,” it just hits. Reflecting on the world today and reading the hate this movie and Arthur receive in the comments (and within the movie itself) touches something deeper. Arthur needed help, but society failed him. Instead, they used him as a vehicle to channel their own fear, not realizing how this destroys the most helpless, Arthur, among us.
When the reporter says, “A monster,” it breaks my heart. So many people need help but don’t receive it and are seen as monsters. I truly hope the world becomes kinder in the future. Let’s all try to be more compassionate. Wishing you all the best.

Personally felt like it was a pretty good criticism on modern society in some aspects, specifically how people with debilitating mental health conditions are left high and dry by mental health professionals, or the difficulty in seeking (and affording) it.
BUT I’ve also always loved the Joker’s character as just a pure agent of chaos, a chaotic madman who did deplorable things to others simply for the giggles of it, and has an obsession with Batman.
In many Batman comic book continuums, the Joker’s origins are never revealed, and I always loved that.
Sympathetic villains can be an awesome thing to go through with quality writing, and I’m certainly not trying to imply the first movie didn’t have quality writing! It’s just not the version of Joker I like the best.
(Likewise, I kinda feel as if lazy and/or poor quality writing can portray “sympathetic villains” in such a way that it may make people, in real life, feel as if their own crappy actions are justified as they’ve been victimized, relating to these sympathetic villains and feeling empowered by them.
Literally not a single soul goes through this world without difficulty and trial, but I don’t see almost 8 billion people constantly victimizing each other. Whether or not someone has been hurt, NOBODY has the right to victimize and/or hurt or abuse others. Hurt people, hurt people is an EXPLANATION, NOT an excuse.)

I love every Ounce of this Film. It has so many Layers that many cannot see it directly or need to catch up. The Music was added to make the Relationship between Arthur Fleck and Lee Quinzel romantic. She loved the Joker and not the real Person which is Arthur Fleck. This makes a lot of Sense too (a different Approach of the Relationship with Joker and Harley) that Lee later on finds the "other" Joker and sticks to an Idea of Him. The Plottwist in the End is fantastic. This Film is another great way to reflect on Humanity. What started out as an untreated Disease (or many false Information in the History) led to a false Inspiration / led to a Misinterpretation in the Present.
As mentioned, many Audience couldn't see it right away because there are so many Informations at once in this Film. The Music was wonderful sarcastic approach to over all how Humanity copes up or covers a lot through Music. Because sets the Mood of the Emotion and through that we tend to forget or neglect the Objective part of Life. "That is Entertainment" or better said Distraction!

I’m not generally the biggest fan of musicals, as I just find them impractical, but there are certainly circumstances in fiction where a musical will draw out the theme best. I feel like the theme of mental madness will fit people randomly bursting out into song quite nicely lol 😅

I feel like some people think they’re cool for trashing this movie but haven’t given a thought on what message it’s trying to send.
This is probably exactly what the director imagined would happen; people in the movie idolizing “Joker”, being overly aggressive and critical because Arthur finally chose himself, are the same cynical people trashing this movie for it not being something they wanted it to be.
People (in the movie including Lee) only rooted for “Joker”, not Arthur, and didn’t love him for who he actually is as a whole but put him on a pedestal as some kind of a hero and worshipped him like they’re in some kind of a cult. Once Arthur realized and confessed he couldn’t keep up anymore, people’s reactions changed 180°.
Many fans who watched the initial Joker expected the sequel to be something more dramatic and entertaining; so when they saw that Arthur was just Arthur, they acted just the same as the fans of Joker within the movie.
Everyone wants catharsis and hates to be shown the reality. Of course if Lee loved him as a whole it would’ve been beautiful but in real life, not all love stories have a happy ending. And in the end, you’re the only person who can accept yourself for who you are, unconditionally.
I think it’s one thing to not like a movie but another thing to scoff and comment on it with so much disrespect.

Phoenix's performance is incredible-his range is just unreal. I still remember watching the first Joker on my Bouya film projector, and it was a whole experience. Can't wait to see what he brings to this new one!

Had to walk out because I didn't want to fall asleep in a movie theater.... It turned out to be a MUSICAL. All I wanted was to see a live action dynamic between Harley Quinn and the Joker for years and they turned it into a musical...........................................

It’s crazy how we’ve got many great duos in recent years in movies that have been great like Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in A Star is Born, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in Barbie last year and now Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in Joker 2.

I just saw this today and I’ve got to tell you in all my 44 years of life on earth this is the first movie I have ever walked out on. It was a snooze fest and damn near a musical. They really dropped the ball on this one.

People loved Toby Maguire's Spider-Man (2002), but there were so many changes to the original teenage character from the '60s that I walked out and didn't watch any more Spider-Man or Amazing Spider-Man movies until _Spider-Man: Homecoming._ So I was so-so about those actors coming back in a multiverse story and upset they fridged a character and didn't have the Sinister Six.

Joker 1 wasn't a very good movie in the first place so that was expected. And Joaquin Phoenix is hella overrated.

Newsflash: Movies aren't being made according to what you want. They're being made according to what the filmmakers behind it think is interesting. You're allowed to dislike it
@@shaharkapili1809 People may make low-budget movies based on what they want, but when big bucks are involved, those putting up the money expect a return on their investment. And that means making a movie they think will put butts in seats; so making it for what the audience wants.
The court scene looks like it's going to be as Oscar worthy as the monologue with him and Murray Franklin.
