    In Tirox's defense, we added the word "Polish" because many "cleaners" were calling themselves polish. Adding a little bit of compound to our formula would bump us up for sure. PLASTIX is primarily a quick plastic, paint cleaner which was initially created for matte materials on many new helmets and bikes and was water based with an additive to help remove bug enzymes. New formulation is in the works.....good review...thanks...Laughed our butts off at the one comment down there @ ****HUB

      If this product was intended for matte materials, would that mean use on complete translucents would be sub optimal? Maybe more opaque plastics would be a target, like colored lamp lenses and such?

    I was lucky enough to fly helicopters in Northern Saskatchewan for years. We tried McGuires plastic polish but it was too slimy. Hard to get off. The best we found was turtle wax. So every week or two use soapy warm water and bare hands to remove the bugs. Bare hands because you could feel the dried bugs and loosen them up and off without scratching the plastic. Then a coating of turtle wax with a damp cloth and when dry, buff off. Slight grit in the turtle wax polished out minor scratches and left a nice clean surface. I still use that method on my windscreen and helmet shield.
    Thanks your vids. Well done and give me a good chuckle.

    Meguires Plastic Polish beats em all. Handles heavy abrasion, even smooths out deep scratches. Have used it for decades on everything from convertible windows, cheap kid dive masks, and motorcycle stuff, including the plastic fairings.
    Outside the visor, the water beading that results is GREAT at speed. Inside, as a fantastic polish, it'll need a water tension breaker.
    Canadian Polish...I thought that was Maple Syrup and courtesy.

    A lot of products (motorcycle waxes & soaps) damage polycarbonate. I know soap from showering has ruined the polycarbonate lenses in my glasses.
    National Cycle has the following warnings
    CAUTION: Sunlight Heat Buildup
    Sunlight reflected off the inside curvature of the windscreen can, at certain times of the day, cause extreme heat buildup on the motorcycle's instrument panel and possibly melt it! Exercise care in parking your bike to avoid this. Park your motorcycle in the shade or place an opaque cover over the instrument panel.
    Note that this is a common issue with all OEM and aftermarket windscreens that have a pronounced or convex curvature. Sun-induced heat damage is generally not covered under your windscreen's warranty.
    CAUTION: Harmful Chemicals
    Do not clean acrylic or polycarbonate screens with common glass cleaners. The solvent action of the alcohol or ammonia will destroy the plastic. Do not allow brake fluid, alcohol (including Rain-X or similar agents), ammonia, or strong solvents to contact the screen, as permanent damage will result.
    CAUTION: Long Term Storage
    Do not use low quality vinyl covers or old shower curtains to store your motorcycle or your windshield. These products contain chemicals that damage the plastic of windshields and the motorcycle bodywork or fairing.

      I've got a double-wall set of goggles ( made, I think, for snow-skiing obtained at a thrift-store ) which can be used with a full-face helmet with no "lens" ( thrift-store, probably intended for off-road use ) which would be similar to the pin-lock solution. It precludes moisture from respiration but my eyes seem to boil-off significant amounts of water vapor using single-layer goggles ). I had no "double vision" problems with the "double insulated" goggles creating extra internal reflections of oncoming headlamps or other caveats described in other posts. So w/o ever having tried a Pin Lock solution I'm going to use my double-insulated goggles experience as the basis of concurring with your assessment.

I use it on both sides and buff out after a minute. It lasts me for about a month before I need to reapply. I paid about $20 bucks Australian last time I got it and it’s a 445ml/375g or 13.2oz can. It's not much more than a visor for that helmet that is pinlock ready but has the second layer already installed. Reviews were quite good. I wear glasses and it's quite exciting to enter a fog bank and have the visor fog on the inside and then lift the visor and have my glasses fog instantly. I can't see much of anything but I'm going 65mph on the highway. Between this and the rainx which I already have I should be much safer.

I have one for all my vehicles that shows me how to do just about everything, and for the bigger selling, more popular 4 wheeled vehicles there are always guides on TH-cam with model specific, job specific tips. Most shop manuals will take you through step by step how to tackle any moderate level maintenance.

    I was disappointed with pinlock's durability. Even with careful handling, they scratch easily.
    I also found them dangerous while riding in the rain, at night. Although there was no fog, the extra refractions/reflections made for blinding oncoming headlight. Streetlights made for double or triple vision.
    Fine review, and entertaining, as always:D
    Thank you!

    • @sniglom
      @sniglom 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is my experience as well. Pinlocks are way too easy to scratch and they make everything worse in the dark, especially combined with rain. Whether extra reflections or extra fog is worse, depends on the season of course.
      I would love to see an improved pinlock from a less scratch sensitive material and with anti-reflective coating, if that's possible.

    • @diogeneslamplit6573
      @diogeneslamplit6573 ปีที่แล้ว

      First I'm going to freely-admit I have 0 experience with Pin Lock. But I do have a double-wall set of goggles ( made for snow-skiing I believe--obtained at a thrift-store ) which I have used in cold weather. Speaking strictly to the multiple-reflections issue you describe I've experienced no such ill effects from the double-insulated goggles. Sadly they do nothing to protect the nose from frostbite but other means can take care of that. Does any helmet brand incorporate double-wall construction in their OEM visor? I really haven't investigated that issue since I'm more of a 2nd-hand/work-arounds type on a real tight budget.

    • @skytower309
      @skytower309 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@diogeneslamplit6573 some helmets mfgs have a snowmobile version, with a heater. No strictly double-wall versions yet, that I know of.
      I'm also limited to long-oval helmets, which severely restricts my selection...
      Night AND rain were the problem for me, not night alone.

It's relatively inexpensive, as well as useful for polishing aluminum and chrome, does a good job of making my lenses look like new again. I haven't tried it on clear plastics you are expected to see through though.
