This is quite interesting. My driving school in Germany uses Walkie-talkies for communicating with students for Motorcycle lessons. Yup. My motorcycle club has been using them for years. Works way better than any Bluetooth based device when it comes to communication range. And if you can even program some of the baofeng uhf radios to be able to communicate with these Motorola units. Although you need to check with your country's laws if they're legal to use in your area. The advantage is range and has no limits to how many riders can join in.
I wasn't very impressed with the speakers in mine so I spent another $20 and bought a set of cheap gaming headphones, cut out the speakers and soldered them in place of the originals while keeping the stock wiring and mic. Sounds amazing and the only reason I kept the original mic is because people say I actually sound better when I'm wearing my helmet.
Awesome video as always. Got a vnet in june, the volume is basically impossible to adjust while riding, and the power-off button is right next to the volume up button and DOESN'T require a long-time press. 50% chance of shutting it off. I found it to be quite loud without earplugs, though with earplugs it might be a little too quiet depending on the type of music or your partner's voice. Also, the intercom only works for two people at a time, you have to switch between "channels"... So basically, it's a 2-person intercom. However, for 115 CAD for a dual pack, it's still worth it imo. Plus you can share it your second unit with whoever it is your riding. If range becomes an issue (never was for me), you can always make a phone call. Sound is great even without a full-face or windshield (riding buddy rides a sportster and wears a Bell Rogue.
I think I watch all of your videos and you're usually spot on with your lab work. However this time, when doing the distance test early in the video, your antenna polarity wasn't matching on both ends. The true test is to have each antenna straight up and down and line of site to each other. Try it again as mentioned and I think you'll get much better range. Thanks again for all your hard work. MC
Im sold this channel is THE BEST! I have been binging on F9 videos and have kinda known something set it apart. And I just cant say enough how much this channel deserves millions more subscribers.
There might be an issue here. From what i can tell from pics, the input on the walkie seems to be TRS. that means either 1 mic + 1 ear audio or 2 ears audio with no mic. Phone headsets WOULD NOT work (they are TRRS). Could we get an informed answer on this, please?
Your product reviews are absolutely world-class, largely because you seem completely honest coupled with the fact that, while you pretend to be just an ordinary dude, you obviously actually know what you are talking about. Wish we had someone like you in the Whitehouse. Honest and knowledgeable. Is it a Canadian thing?
Sweet, I use my ham radio (Yaesu VX-6R) with my hand mic clipped to my collar, only downside is if I'm moving with any speed there is too much wind noise. I wonder if putting a sock over it would help? It's modified to work on FRS (Family Radio Service) frequencies (that would be the ones that Motorola and other "bubble pack" walkie talkies you'd buy at walmart or wherever work on) Difference is that I get to use 5 watts out of a huge antenna which means I can talk much more reliably than a stock FRS radio which is limited by a little antenna and only half a watt, but, those still should have plenty of range for a motorcycle group. Bonus of the ham radio is it can also be used to communicate with other hams possibly through repeaters so it can also be useful if I ever need to get ahold of someone in the bush as a bonus I have a long roll up j-pole antenna that I can string up in a tree for even better range.
Motorola walkie user here! Simply add a no-name-made-in-China PTT helmet speaker and mic set for hours of trouble free chit-chat with my hubby. Works great when he decides to take a unscheduled detour and I have to pull a U-turn whilst spewing much needed expletives. ;-)
Thank you, I appreciate the work you put into evaluating things. I think it's valuable to have the opinion of an actual rider rather than accepting what somebody was paid to say. I'm curious to know what you think of Sena 10C Evo.
Our group has now upgraded to Cardos Packtalk Slim coming from other Cardo units. The new generation is really good and we are quite happy with it. What I dont understand is that Shoei has locked itself in with Senna. It was previously my go to helmet choice. Now I have to look for a new manufacturer. I dont understand why a helmet company would do such a thing. I can more easily convince myself to buy a new helmet as to convince my whole group to switch headset brands.
I am using a Cardo Freecom4+ on my Shoei Neotec 2, it ain't that hard to install and no different than installing on any other helmet. Just that it can't be as integrated if you were to get the Sena SRL
Acoustician here, the SLM (sound level meter) readings at 04:37 actually seem to show different results. The Uclear at the bottom left is set to "Max", as opposed to what I assume is the average for the others. I would also question if that SLM measures average over time or just an instantaneous response. I wouldn't put too much faith in an SLM like that, useful for indicative ballpark numbers, but I guarantee you they are not accurate to 0.1dB
I was looking to see if anyone noticed that 3 of the four systems were labeled as the wrong brand at the same point in the video, so not only were they listed incorrectly but also had different settings on the SLM. My search for audio comparisons between these continues I guess.
Ah, well-played yet again, Ryan, reprising my all-time favorite video of yours (which helped lead me to buying Cardo's Packtalk Slim, which was, and is, fantastic). The Motorola would make for a cool backup unit (or something to toss to a comm-less riding companion in a pinch).
I use a combination of a cheap china reciever like the BT-S3 (QA is hit or miss) and a adapter cable to a fit a kenwood/baofeng walkie talkie. Twice the hassle and a whole lot cables but you get both the fidelity of the bluetooth and the range of a walkie talkie. Still looking on how to mod a CB to use the system for that ultra long range thou
12:00 the best advice EVER! In Czech Republic we usually (judging by customers needs) recommend Interphone as over 70% of the market owns them. Best bang for buck is definitely model TOUR (EPIC battery life)
yep, can confirm, rechargeable packs for these radios have the lifespan of an antivaxxer child. go with energizer AAs as it seems to be the battery I've had the best luck with time-wise.
Went with the Freecom 4 by Cardo. Just bought it for the music and JBL speakers. Totally happy with this product. I don't like most people and certainly don't want to talk to anyone while I'm riding.
I got a Sena SMH10R in 2014, installed to a Schuberth C3W and it still works fine. 95% of the use case was just listening to music from my phone combined with GPS directions, but phone calls too were crystal clear up to 90km/h. Below that speed the people on the other end didn't even know I was riding. Only ever used it in paired comms with a buddy a few times, but it synchronized in just a few seconds to his older SMH5 and got a few hundred metres of range which was nice. TL;DR If you're on a tight budget and primarily listen to music, I can recommend a used, older generation Sena
Will never buy a Sena again. 20 replaced under warranty then failed. Now using a 10 and it's always losing sound in 1 speaker. Cardozo next for me. Great vid !
Same here. Had Sena 20s, was fine on its own, but unusable with 3 riders. Sena customer support was horrible and left me with same feeling that I would never buy a Sena product again. Have since gone with Cardo Packtalk units and they have been great. The main issue with the pairing and crackling sound of the Sena was resolved and no issues with the Cardo.

While hunting I use a corded microphone single earpiece on my walking talkie. If you think about it as half an apple corded ear bud that is what it is. Works really well
My personal hack for communication is the Sony C200 Bluetooth headphones. They are small enough to fit in your ears and have none of that annoying ANC. They are wired bluetooth, which means that you can put the remote control unit, which has the mic on it, at the front of your helmet and you can even whisper while riding and the voice clarity is hard to beat. I use an AGV K3 SV with a small chin guard at the front and I simply let the remote sit there. If I receive a call or want to play music I just lift the visor a bit and click the button and the voice assistance does the rest. This solution cost me 15 Euro and I cannot be happier 👏
Had the Sena 20s and now I use the Sena 50s. Works for 8 hours and has a standby life of 16, 1-2 hours charge time. As long as you have clear line of sight to other riders the sound quality was great and it stayed connected. 70+mph and wind noise is too much for talking but is fine with music or radio. Only complaint is that if you don't put speakers in your helmet correctly it does hurt your ears after 2 hours of riding.
I spent like 6 hours looking for a compatible mic with both PTT/AO functionality, both the radios and the throat mics will be arriving in about a week or two, I'll update if they work well.
"...And play the Canadian National Anthem" - Hockey Night In Canada Theme - That put a big smile on my face. The Justin Bieber made me hoot. Hilarious. Great video, by the way.
I must apologise to my Interphone Sport comms system. I thought it was rubbish, until Ryan rolled this video. It cost me £125 three years ago. A year ago I had to replace the mic boom as I have a dual sport helmet (25000miles covered!). Up to 60 miles an hour, with the face open on the helmet, I can be on a phone call or chatting with my pillion without any hint on the other side that I'm being blasted in the face by wind, whilst riding my bike. I don't know how good the noise cancellation is above 60mph as that is the limit of me being able to hear people talking to me. My Comms are easy to pair with up to another three mates, but they're all Philistines and refuse to modernise. My Comms also have a built in FM radio, that I use when I'm on the motorway, either on the UK or abroad.
RyanF9, based on your reviews and my subsequent independent research, I've purchased the Heidenau K60s, Bell MX-9 Adventure mips and MEE in-ear monitors. Your recs are on point every single time. The Heidenaus in particular are incredible. Keep 'em coming!
When im on the road my comunication system is perfect its just me, The wind,The view and the road. No talking to anyone the only voices i hear are those in my head.
Thanks for the helpful info Ryan! Just to point out that Cardo units are rated at IP67 and are relatively waterproof (backed by the manufacturer) whereas Sena units are not waterproof or water resistant in any way. Sena units come with 'dust covers' for open ports etc but are not suitable for rain! Sena make no mention of any 'weatherproofing of any of its product documentation. I live in Northern England and found out the hard way. Canadian weather riders be warned!
If you want good audio for music, you really need some in-ear goodies. You'll never EVER get good audio quality from in-helmet speakers so long as they're competing with wind noise. I own a pair of Shure SE215's and the sound quality for the road is unparalleled. Well, actually, the only earphones better than Shure SE215's for motorcycle use are the higher-end Shure SE series. They have memory foam tips so they block out just as much sound as dedicated ear plugs, and if you buy the optional in-line microphone, then practicality is on-par with ANY of the aforementioned products. The 215's are a little lacking in low-end ooomph, but if you fork out a bit more and get one of the better SE series then you'll be laughing all the way to timbucktoo and back. Ride safe.

As always my friend, another great vid with great info. Thank you for doing them. Sometimes you would like comms after a current set dies but do not have much money at the time so Sena stays on the shelf. Dang, just saw this and probably when you were doing the actual review I was buying the V6 BUT I only paid $29 for it so I could not pass it up to try, and it is the TWO pack! I love auctions AND it does what I need it to do-Phone/NAV/etc AND it works well talking to other riders BUT only one at a time. I mostly ride solo so it works with the main functions. I DO also have a good WT comm system that reaches out a few miles. Anyway, I found the Vnet to have pretty clear sound and works well once you do get used to those tiny buttons. I have it down now, its just the OFF button is the littlest of them all. I fit them in my helmet to get the best sound I can get with placement. So I can talk/hear music up to around 75ish (full helmet, 50/50 knobs tires) also cement the main into its base, since the little push release somehow was getting pushed. I also give it a spray with silicon just to seal it a bit better than factory. Used it a year and a half now and its working fine. Would I need to do that with the others- Probably not but if it bumps up the life of it for next to nothing then all good. Maybe I just got a decent set since I am sure qual control is not strict!. When it dies, set #2 will go on and by then the inexpensive will be good with the leaps of tech. When I can get a better comm I will and it should last until the tech changes. SO even though this vid was made a while ago we were getting them at the same time! As always, take care and be safe in your travels my friend!

Cant speak for the other brands, but RyanF9 has never contacted us once to check facts, and he gets several statements plain wrong while also managing to omit key points. Why, because of sales margin. Cardo and Sena give him the highest dealer sales margin so you get pushed by a salesman who admittedly edits together very good videos. If he at least was accurate, or did fact checking, we could respect his opinion. You are being lead based on an internet dealer's pocketbook... a dealer who will soon be shut off from the brand. Cardo and Sena make very good products, no disputing that, but to say UCLEAR is (1:49) "less reputable" or (11:27) "you should avoid it" is bogus. Saying we have the USAFE "motion chip" in the Motion 6, but we lock the feature off unless you pay more (5:53) is also a simply untrue, false, BS assumption. How he got intercom disconnected at (3:34) 270M is suspect, considering we routinely ride connected well beyond double that distance and check with laser range finders. UCLEAR sales grew by large double digits last couple years for a reason, much of this from happy repeat customers. We are continuing to innovate, improve, provide more features for the price, and to take care of any issues our customers experience. Thousands of happy customers, just not according to RyanF9. We're different on purpose, we're proud of what we do, and we love our loyal customers. If you hate the brand that much, RF9, stop selling it, because we're not about to raise your margins.
Was your issue with his testing? Because as far as I can tell, he received your product and received what every other customer would for enclosed information and went from there.. Are you suggesting every single customer need contact you directly to understand and get full use of your product? It’s no secret that Cardo beats everyone, and that Sena is also well liked.. this is not new…there are thousands of unbiased reviews by everyday riders with no brand affiliation. Also Uclear is also sold on FortNine.. which means there’s obviously profit to be made by your sales as well.
@@lady-os1sm I work at a retail store that sells both Cardo and Sena. Senas sell at about a 10 to 1 ratio to Cardos (I'm probably being conservative on that number). And our Cardo case is right next to the register, while the Sena case is across the store against a wall... That being said, we get customers coming in and asking about UClears all the time. Personally my first helmet Bluetooth system was a UClear, that was about 5 years ago. They're good systems and there's a reason they're still in the business.
@@headkicked *Based on your commenting time you should know UClear has changed their comment since my original comment. That was not their comment when I responded to it. That’s great for Sena that they’re succeeding so well at your specific location. I was speaking for overall. Cardo is better received by the general public. I also did state in my original message that Sena was also well received. (And up until a couple years ago better received) As for UClear, obviously they have to do something right or they wouldn’t be on the market and I’m glad to hear you had success with your unit. But it’s also no lie that’s not a shared feeling among ~50% of their customers… just a quick, google/amazon/youtube review search will show you just how split the feeling really is. Which is why it’s up to each customer to do their research before purchasing to decide what unit is best suited to them. People like different things that great, that’s what makes people interesting! That being said my only issue with UClear is this comment. ** Was this comment they have since changed it ** From a business standpoint this comment was inappropriate.. to leave a comment being rude and insulting to a what 25 year old doing his job? Because you didn’t like his opinion? Grow-up. Ryan F9 works for Fortnine, the only large Canadian store to carry all dirtbike /motorcycle/atv ect. gear AND review products this way(In addition to other content). Which incase you don’t realize that’s a huge gift to us. Rocky Mountain and Revzilla and other American companies do a great job of this but when it comes time to order it either doesn’t ship here or costs quite a bit and then you have to worry about getting hit with duties. Having Ryan F9 is a wonderful thing for Canadians, and a brand trying to tarnish his name is immature and uncalled for.
I mostly ride solo and at times, have a pillion. Been using v6 for like 2 years and 30k km now, and its still functions nicely. Ridden it through rain many times, and for the price I paid for it ($100 for 2 units + shipping) its worth the price. The 2 things I hate about it is the charger, it uses that 3.5mm jack thing, and its hard to find a replacement. I've lost one and theres hardly any online, and now I'm using 1 charger for 2 units, and I can't connect it on my phone and another v6 at the same time, technically you could, but you'd have to switch to which connection to listen to. Edit: I'd like to add you cannot really have a group talk with v6 as far as I know. You can have up to 6 connections (you + 5 others), but you'd have to press 5 different buttons for each rider, you can't listen to everyone simultanously.

@FortNine: What headset did you use for the test, any suggestions? Also, is it possible to get music + com in the helmet with the motorola?
11:51 - Great ending to this one! Best analogy I have heard in a while.

@@guille_snapshooter how do you do it at the same time?
Mats Nygård same
@@roberoba06 the V6 only let you talk 2 riders at the same time, but if you connect 1 V4 with 2 V6, 3 riders can talk at the same time
I wasn't very impressed with the speakers in mine so I spent another $20 and bought a set of cheap gaming headphones, cut out the speakers and soldered them in place of the originals while keeping the stock wiring and mic.

This motorcycle channel is so outstanding great, just best in class worldwide, no doubts
Any suggestions on a headset for the walkie-talkie?

@FortNine, we need answers!
@The Underground Man headphones aren't the problem the problem is having headphones that fit under a helmet and a mic
@@CoreyBrass Look into Rugged Radios
Works great when he decides to take a unscheduled detour and I have to pull a U-turn whilst spewing much needed expletives. ;-)

Extremely well spoken man, so I was SHOCKED to hear him say "perfer" instead of "prefer"!!!!
Thank you, I appreciate the work you put into evaluating things. I think it's valuable to have the opinion of an actual rider rather than accepting what somebody was paid to say. I'm curious to know what you think of Sena 10C Evo.
Wish I'd seen this $250 ago . Professional level production once again. Thumbs Up !
Not a dull moment. This guy is really something.
To lock out a feature that could save lives like that is dispicable.
Great amount of hilarity in your vids, that's why I like watching them so much. 6:30 biebers singing made my day.
Love the letterkenny theme lol
I own the Cardo for a few weeks now and I LOVE it! Couldn't be happier. Glad I listened to the pros when I purchased it.
Hahahaha, love the Letterkenny reference! PS, when will you be doing a review on the KTM 790 Adventure and Adventure R?
My buddies and myself got SENA 20s’s for $220 at the Edmonton (Canada) motorcycle show in 2017. Always deals at the motorcycle shows.
Love the video!

Just bought it for the music and JBL speakers. Totally happy with this product. I don't like most people and certainly don't want to talk to anyone while I'm riding.
Cardo Packtalk Slim is still the best. Love mine so much.
Talk about timing. Was literally researching on Google.. these videos are worth watching for newbie riders like myself. Thanks mate. 🇦🇺
So you wanted to talk to your buds while ridin’ the other dayyyyyy....
Just so you know if your friends run sennas your going to have a bad time..

Have you ever tried any of the earpiece/mics made to connect to walkie talkies? Love a review on those if you have.
Nice Romeo and Juliet reference at the end :)

"...And play the Canadian National Anthem" - Hockey Night In Canada Theme - That put a big smile on my face. The Justin Bieber made me hoot. Hilarious. Great video, by the way.
In the time I watched this video, it went from 400 views to 2400, man!

I'd check Autocom's intercom, they're fairly robust, quite good and would consider them top choice if I were looking for this part of the kit.
The labeling is wrong for the sound test UCLEAR is top right not bottom left
Man you’re so good. Editing, ,music, script and content are awesome.
Is there one with great speakers out of the box or do you have to upgrade to get good sounding music?
I have the Cardo 2 freedom but I updated the speakers which sound way better than the original ones that came with it.
Ride safe.
Cardo packtalk bold with the JBL speakers is pretty good right out of the box even if you wear ear plugs

Me and my friends get together on a conference call while riding. I don't know if it's a dumb idea but the least expensive and never failed yet.
Works until you ride out of cell service.

Thank you for everything Ryan. Take care.
Love the Letterkenny references, and a great video as always👍👍
