As nitpicky as it may sound, the fashion was one of my biggest issues with this film. The original mean girls film had so much thought and attention to detail put into each outfit and how they subtly reflected each character’s personalities. In the new mean girls it seems like they just recycled wardrobes from 2012 Disney Channel shows.

@qedproqwo1634 a) Heathers being better than Mean Girls (subjective opinion, obviously, but come on) b) The Heathers miniseries being advertised as good (better than Mean Girls, no less) c) That Mean Girls is a remake of Heathers (this one’s just factually inaccurate)
the thing that annoys me is in the Original Karen was dumb but also acted like a normal fucking human..... In the remake her character Acts like she should be on Medication
I think the actress did a really good job with what she was given, but yeah, if I think about it, it did feel like a cartoonish mockery more than a realistic depiction of a human.
I honestly thought that Karen was the best in this movie! Loved her silly Halloween song and her the scene of her wearing makeup. I wish they would’ve given her more attention I thought she was great. Maybe as a girlie with ADHD and Bipolar disorder, you might be right in one way
Maybe that was just me, but I thought the plastics in the original were mean to each other in a realistic way. Regina was full of herself and when she was in a bad mood she let it out on the others. Or Gretchen yelled at one of the other plastics because she felt treated unfairly or pushed into a corner. It wasn't okay, but it made sense in that moment. It was teenagers losing their tempers. It wasn't Regina turning around and spelling out to one of her friends that she is sooo dumb without any emotions displayed, just being plain mean.
The "she doesn't even go here" line in the og is funnier bc Damian isn't supposed to be there either (being a girls' assembly) and he's clearly trying to stay undetected atp but still couldn't help himself.
i do genuinely think janice and damian are the only believable characters in the whole film. and i guess kevin g too but other than that they all seem like caricatures of real teenagers. in real life regina would probably be more sneaky and probablematic, cady would probably be a lot more complex of a person, karen would be a lot less stupid and gretchen would be a lot less outwardly insecure around the plastics minus maybe karen
I think what I hate most about this movie is how much they changed Regina’s character. In the original she talks behind ppls backs. This Regina is just mean to ppl to their face which just isn’t realistic for high school girls in this generation. The old Regina is just a much more realistic of a popular, high school it girl and holds up way better in this generation than the new one. Also- ik Karen is supposed to be dumb but in the original they made her more dumb in a smart way if that makes sense. In this one she is literally nothing why tf would she be popular when she acts like that?
Thank you for saying that about Karen! In the original she’s dumb, but it honestly feels more realistic, I can see someone thinking it’s ESPN instead of ESP or asking “why are you white?” Then in this movie it’s cartoonish, and honestly almost childish. Even wardrobe wise, she wears freaking butterfly socks, that’s just so juvenile and a little weird for the character that’s supposed to be “slutty”
I mean Karen is dumber in the musical, that's mainly the problem with comparing the movie to the og movie when it's an adaptation of the MUSICAL. In the musical Karen literally thought she cured sex cancer when Gretchen told her sex cancer doesn't exist lmao
definitely a thing with the times. i was in high school in the late 2010’s and the popular people were definitely mean to peoples faces under the guise of being “funny”
What heavily agitated me was the "moral" of this whole thing. The OG wasnt shy about saying that girls were mean. They can be cruel, catty, and calculating and have the ability to destroy you. The remake is just "Oh girls are amazing! They never do anything wrong on purpose! Its because of men pitting us against eachother!" When thats not even it!
@@Liltwilightprincess2 i always read that as guys being allowed to be physically aggressive towards eachother when girls have to resort to psychological warfare
Literally! Boys weren't even a major plot point of the first one, it was centered almost exclusively around girls being mean of their own free will! Girls can be mean! Not everything we do has to do with boys!!!
My biggest complaint about this movie is that it took itself way too seriously. There were multiple points in the movie where it was an exact copy of the original, but with all of the original comedy somehow sucked out😭
@@koiloyloyeah I liked the meta moment where one of them was like ‘I’m sorry for saying you weren’t good in that song from earlier, there was a lot of pressure” I wish they did more jokes like that
"she doesn't even go here!" In the original, it was yelled from the back of the room/shot, but in the remake it's right on center, that's why it looks so "look we did it" and unorganic...I did chuckle at the "she sings well...but she doesn't go here y'all", better delivery. :D

@@marlynfermin8676 What? I've honestly never met a popular person at school who was not nice. (At least to other's faces). The one's who were too obviously rude and mean weren't actually that popular. And even then no one truly seemed to like her, look up to her and enjoy spending time with her. So I wouldn't call this being popular.

11:53 I saw a tiktok of a clip of this "movie" and someone commented that it looks like a school production of the real movie. No one looks like they're actually the characters and they don't look like they are really committed to the role. I absolutely agree, now more after seeing more scenes from the movie. Im glad I never watched it
I think they may have blackmailed Tina Fey or something to return for her ICONIC role cause ain't no way she saw this script and went "Ah, the perfect homage to the original"💀
I have three problems with this movie. One: Cady is so boring. The actress’ singing voice and style is SO far away from how they sing Cady’s parts on Broadway. She’s supposed to be enthusiastic, bubbly and cheerful. Instead we get this flat Mary Sue. Not to mention she doesn’t hold a candle to Renee’s powerful vocals. Two: the songs have been changed and rearranged, so a lot of the main characters don’t get to sing as much and express their parts in the story. The whole Plastics introduction on Broadway has both Gretchen and Karen singing about who they are next to Regina. That way, they are introduced as the GROUP of Mean Girls. Not just Regina. Third: the fashion sucked. Hard.
13:30 I’m glad someone else finally brought that up. I was so confused when she showed up in leather pants right after she said sweats were all that fit
It confuses me in the original as well. She's supposedly gained all this weight, can only fit into sweatpants, but then we see her in low rise jeans during the Burn Book page distribution scene. Even if she lost all that weight, it would've taken weeks.
@@edwardsdistress5599 i brought this up to my friend when I realized it and he tried to say it was just Regina exaggerating bout the sweat pants but considering she knew the rules why would she risk wearing sweats before Friday if she could obviously fit in other clothes
I saw this in the theater and I felt SCAMMED. When they said they were adding the Broadway songs, I thought they would be in a BROADWAY STYLE. But they changed the whole damn thing! They took out all the good songs and changed a ton of lyrics.
EXACTLY that made me pissed. The only rlly good part was Janice and Damien. only characters that yk, sold there characters like every character was supposed to..
@@emmajeanne1900 NO PROBLEM. But seriously, the cut down Grechen and Karen into extras pretty much. Like, cutting out were do you belong was the worst decision ever, but then they cut half of meet the plastics and STILL call it meet the plastics when its more "meet regina" if anything, they cut out grechens whole shpeil and karens verse as well and that pissed me off. OML THE FACT THAT THEY REPLACED IT ROARS FOR SOME STUPID POP SONG MADE ME WANT A GUN TO MY HEAD
"No mom the best way to deal with a bully is well placed fingerprints and hair follicles, you know what I'm saying" 😂😂😂 that line is funnier then this whole movie
By changing Janis and Karen's ethnicities, I feel like this remake basically threw away the original points and jokes about theses characters. Karen is supposed to be a dumb blonde stereotype and they threw away the lesbian/Lebanese punchline with Janis. Plus I don't really like how they made this Karen so cartoonishly stupid. I know the Broadway show exaggerated her stupidity as well, but even that version still had her "smart" moments and humility. For example, the musical number "Stop" reveals how she became a victim of sexting and questions why boys aren't taught not to pressure girls like that or understand the dangers of doing that to minors. Here, they just turn Karen into a walking vegetable rather than an airhead who's still a human being anymore.
Okay here’s a hot take- Renee did not play Regina well. Idk if it's the problem with the writing or what but she literally displayed zero emotions and the lines were delivered so flat. Plus the OG Regina is mean in a sneaky way while being nice to your face. Which makes sense why she’s popular. It’s realistic. Why would anyone wanna be friends with Renee’s Regina, who is just outright mean to everyone?
I think she did Broadway Regina well and can totally sing but the writing this movie did not do her any favors in terms of her characters complexity. Also I hate the excessive autotune gurl can sing why won't the movie let her
Exactly! That was the first thing about Renee's version that I noticed. Everything she says is just outright offputting and venomous in a way that you couldn't just put up with or ignore. She says everything with a tone that is just ridiculously over the top yet a delivery that also somehow feels flat. It's genuinely weird. Renee also ruined the "it's not going to happen..." line because she didn't say it in a sneakily mean way that allows her to shut Gwen up while also remaining "friendly", recommending that her efforts might be better spent elsewhere. She says it like she hopes Gwen will die or will be stricken ill after she finishes her sentence. Regina's character and Renee's portrayal make no sense nor does the reason why this movie was made and changed so dramatically. Disappointed and annoyed.
Exactly! How is everyone saying that Rapp “carried” the movie when her acting was just as bad as everyone else’s? People are praising her for her performance because she’s attractive and can sing, but the cast has literally said that she lost her script and just “did her own thing” for the movie, since she already knew the lines from the original. If that’s true, then it’s *very* believable, since she acts without any direction and looks like she’s doing improv while everyone else is robotically sticking to the script. Everyone’s performance was awful, but Rice and Rapp as the main characters especially stuck out. At least Reneé could actually sing though, unlike Angourie
It’s funny how this movie says it’s trying to be its own thing yet nearly every scene just feels like a clip show of all the iconic lines and moments from the original but made in a way that feels like the director is sitting behind you with his hands on your shoulders and going “Oh here we go, look, this part is coming up” in that tone of fake excitement you use when you desperately want someone to enjoy something that *you* think is good
The thing that made Regina work in the original was how nice she could seem at times. She wasn't always obviously "evil" and there were hints she wasn't entirely a bad person at heart. By the end she's actually changed for the better. You liked her even if you didn't want to admit it, so it was clear why she got to the position of power she did in the school. This one just makes her too much of a one-dimensional villain who's about as subtle in her behavior as Snidely Whiplash.
It should also be said that when Regina was mean in the original... She at least did it in a way that was often charming. She got into that mean part of your brain where you unconsciously could side with her.
Didn’t expect Tina Fey to ruin her own jokes so badly, the fact that Regina misunderstood Lebanese for lesbian and just ran with it was such a well done joke that required close attention to the movie was really good and to throw it away for a “spin the bottle” scenario is just dumb. Also, musical theater kid here, and I always felt the musical was just meh (except apex predator that was a bop), the original movie was way better.
@@DuelaDent52 yep it was just a theory. (a movie theory!) i don't think it was ever true, regina wasn't stupid to confuse those two, she herself says in the movie she didn't understand why janice was so obsessed with her.

One think I am so happy for is that they didn't remove the "GLEN COCO GLEN COCO GLEN COCO" chant in revenge party. So thankful, the best part and most not needed part of the song💀
I love the GLEN COCO chant! I admit my friend and I were a little disappointed they changed where Regina cheats on Aaron versus the stage musical, if only because that dancing, gyrating North Shore Lions costume is one of those "if I had to see it, so do you" kinds of things.
Something I just realized about Caddy's Halloween costume. She still looks passably (compared to her usual look) pretty in it. I loved that Caddy in the original went all out with the fake teeth, make up and whole look to sell the zombie bride/bridezilla idea. She thought it was about dressing scary. The costumes in his movie suck. Like I saw another comment say in regards to this film; These girls look like girls the original mean girls would bully. Regina has had a chic/preppy/girly mixed with whatever SHE wanted feel to her wardrobe. Sometimes she was super fashionable, sometimes she was out there, sometimes she was relatively relaxed. She did not follow trends, even for the time she was in when the film was made. Plus the actress was, Rachel McAdams was 26 and Lindsey was like 18. This gave her an older feel, but still passable as a 18 year old high school student. It added to her bitchiness as a character and her leadership status.
Movie musicals were once the biggest tent pole of Hollywood. Now it’s something that everyone is just embarrassed by. Why did this happen? How did this happen?
I mean, yeah, just let us theater nerds be our own thing we don’t have to be mainstream because that just makes us the problem and liking feeder is more cringe than ever
I’m not really someone who comments, but as a fellow theater kid: just pivoting to say that ‘Hazbin Hotel’ is my new everything. All the best Broadway talent. Not a movie, but an animated musical series that is just…Listen, it’s so good that if you don’t have Prime, everyone should listen to the songs on TH-cam. It’s so good that I’m risking incredibly uncomfortable social-interaction awkwardness right now. (And it’s definitely not mainstream, in my opinion…yet…I think… (lol))
One small thing I very much appreciated with the remake was that the throwaway character ‘Trang Pak’ got changed to ‘Trang Pham’. It’s a small difference but I find it huge because it’s an accurate name and representation of an Asian girl (Vietnamese specifically) and the fact they took out weirder the scenes of her in mean girls.
yes! my name is trang and as a kid i hated that the only representation with my name was a girl who’s in a predatory relationship with a teacher😭 also because trang is a vietnamese name and pak is not a vietnamese last name, so it felt like writers didn’t even bother to look up her full ethnicity. it was giving cho chang from harry potter which if you didn’t know is two last names
thank you for mentioning the male lead. Respectfully, I'm so sick of Hollywood trying to gaslight me into thinking perfectly average people are hot ...why can I find like 4 of you at walmart on a Wednesday? This isn't what I paid for.
I would think it was good they were not just portraying unbelievably chiselled jawline in average high-school. Although there were a couple guys I thought were handsome lads in my school...I am not that way.
IKR, I'm so tired of pretending these people are attractive. And people will get so "overprotective" or "offended" for a random actor. IF THEY ARENT, THEY ARENT. That's it.
Honestly, LOVE that Alex brought up the whole "guys can do whatever they want and not get called out for it" thing. Everyone has different experiences but mine fell more in line with his. I've never seen a guy NOT get called out or insulted back for being a jerk. Maybe I was just "fortunate" enough to have that childhood.🤷♀ EDIT: I should clarify, I’m JUST focusing on what people say about guys because it’s never addressed. Women have a side to this too but it’s already talked about a lot more.😅
It happens, but it happens with women too. There are people out there whose mean behavior isn't called out, regardless of gender. I hate when Hollywood takes this weird black and white approach to this topic. It just feels like an excuse for problematic women to get away with being awful, so they write it in their movies and tv shows, they just use the "Well, if I was a man and I did this, no one would care, therefore it's okay when I do it!" excuse. That's another thing that I find annoying about the line.
I don't agree when Alex says that it's not true that boys don't have it as hard as girls. If Regina were a boy, she'd be punched in face for half the shit she does.
I think the movie (and by extension Alex) misunderstood the trope of women being called a bitch. There is a gender gap in which women who don't show enough emotion are considered bitchy even when they aren't being mean. Whereas men are able to act more "cold" and not necessarily be called a dick for it. I believe the research around this particularly looks at men and women in leadership positions in a corporate setting. The movie seems to have not understood this form of misogyny at all and instead tried to say that guys aren't called out when they're mean, which I think we can all agree isn't true.
Movie makers assuming that Gen Z doesn’t care about old movies because they’re, “old fashioned and boring” Want to know what my favourite movie is? Jaws. Made fifty years ago
My dad has shown me movies from the 1930s-50s and some of them are among my favourite movies. The comedies were actually very tight, clever and quick. Not boring.
I’ve loved movies that came out long before I was born and the OG Mean Girls was one of my favorites and I loved all the songs in the OG musical but it’s kinda disappointing what they did
Idk, not long ago I’ve seen a tiktok w a lot of likes on how it’s impossible all these celebrities on letterboxd challenge “name movies older than 20 years when asked about their favourites”. Comments were calling them snobs and such🙄
15:06 was this scene scrapped in the original? I remember there was An apology scene but it was scrapped for being too cheesy? Which its ironic to keep in this movie because this movie is an entire dairy farm compared to the original
One thing I like is that they didn't remove the "He's too gay to function line" and so on, because I can see a world where that would be considered "too offensive to keep in" when in reality it's funny and I think many LGBT members agree.
It's funny when it's organic, it seemed like a reflex response, or a forced reference to the original in the clip shown here. I don't know how it comes across in context though.
Request: could you cover "A Cinderella Story" sometime soon please?? I'd love to hear your commentary and I feel like there is so much to talk about when it comes to Carter alone - he is literally one of the most 3-dimensional best friend characters I've ever seen in a Disney Channel Movie. (Please ignore me if you've already said you wont cover this 😭) Love you Alex!!! 💙
As an ex-plastic in real life, I loved how realistic the first movie was at showing how girl culture really is, how we talk about people behind their backs, and how everything is fake. But the new one is just unrealistic. The plastics wouldn't be this super tight knit group of friends, they would secretly hate each other.
"Sexy" might have done nothing for the plot, but it was the most entertaining thing for me in the whole movie. And I spent the whole movie going "Wow, Regina and Cady are really into each other".
Sexy did do something for the plot, it shows Karen's innocence but girls obsessions with looking hot on Halloween. Th only thing IS that they forgot the other scenes leading up to that so it failed
When I heard we were getting another Mean Girls I genuinely thought it was going to be like, the original girls grew up and had kids and now their kids were going to be dealing with today's high school issues. I didnt know it was just a musical remake 😕
They "kinda" did that, except it was just some phoned in ads for Walmart or some other store (can't remember which). So, what you said, but not even close at the same time 😅
This isn’t a remake of the movie, it’s an adaptation of the musical that was on broadway. However… there were definitely some baffling decisions that got made in translation from stage to film.
I agree it’s an adaptation of the musical if only they actually marketed as that instead of making it sound like it was a remake of the movie. It’s embarrassing to call this an adaptation of the musical with how little they cared for it😒. I don’t really like the musical that much either but damn they butchered it.
Ok a lot of people say it's not a remake is an adaptation of the musical. Ok but the movie and musical originated from the book . So it is a musical remake .😂
please add The Clique to your list 😭 it's literally a super pg/g rated version of Mean Girls! it has Dylan Minnette and the girl wjo plays the older sister in Good Luck Charlie 😂😭
One of the things I missed the most , that was in the musical but wasn't in the movie was Cady and Janis relationship. In the musical you can see them hugging in some scenes and being close friends, there's even a song about Damian and Janis trying to get Cady to "Stop" and you can see how much they care about her. So when Cady and Janis stop being friends it hits harder since you saw they were good friends. In the OG movie and this movie you kind of don't have that as much and that's why when Janis throws Cady the painting is not as sad as in the musical. Also Karen plays a dumb but wise character in the musical, even telling Cady how everything in life is not black and white ("her rule of twos") so having Karen in this movie as a typical bimbo felt like wasted potential. And as a lot of people have said the fashion was a big HUH. And they also scrapped a mini storyline in the musical where Aaron helps Cady sneak into prom and they have a cute sweet moment. Btw I'll never forgive them for changing Stupid with love, that song was so adorable and they made it this generic weird thing. I liked the movie but the OG version and the musical were so good this one just fell a bit flat. If you read all of this, I wish you a nice day :D
It’s not a remake of the old 2004 movie. It’s a remake of the Broadway musical adaptation of Mean Girls. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a crappy remake. But it was bound to be crap because they tried to turn a stage performance into a movie by slowing down songs and all that. Trust me when I say that the original stage musical of it was better than this crap they gave us.
@@YourFavBritishBoy_PipPirrupI hated any of the songs Angourie Rice sang, WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT TO STUPID WITH LOVE, THAT WAS ONE OF MY FAV SONGS AND THEY MADE IT SO BORING

As a gen z this movie is NOTHING like how school goes so now it’s relatable to no audience, but I’m glad they got rid of that weird plot point of the Asian girls fighting over the gym teacher.
This is how I felt as well. I was prepared to love it because I generally like musicals, and I loved the movie, but overall just felt so unnecessary. It was like someone telling me what happened in the original in a less funny way, taking lots of breaks to sing songs, and it just made me impatient. Also plenty of people have pointed out the abysmal fashion in the new one--the Plastics are supposed to be as attractive as possible, so why would any of their clothes fit weirdly and look bad? see specifically: that corset/mesh pink camo top
@koiloylo ikr , regina doesn't have that snarky , smiling while roasting you , teenage bimbo energy , she's dull , andjust mean but not in the funny kind of way , like sure , she's supposed to be hates but you were also supposed to be entertained by her , find her funny but you want to stay out of her way , this regina is just mean and you just want her gone Like the actress is fun outside of the movie , she isn't giving regina but she's fun on her own
What sucks about this movie is that they tried to take the songs from the musical and the story from the movie (which are essentially the same) and recreated none of the magic from either property. Also as someone who saw the stage musical, the songs had something to say about each character and gave them all a little more dept than the OG movie. This musical movie stripped everyone down to a troupe and gave no explanation for anything. It was super unfortunate
“Stop trying to make Fetch happen…” But she only said it once in the remake, how is she trying to make it happen? For something to become a thing, to happen, it need more than a one second mention.

Yeah she’s like a caricature of a caricature, it’s just too ridiculous to make her even dumber than she already was lol
I think the actress did a really good job with what she was given, but yeah, if I think about it, it did feel like a cartoonish mockery more than a realistic depiction of a human.
I honestly thought that Karen was the best in this movie! Loved her silly Halloween song and her the scene of her wearing makeup.

@@RedMoonSolitary Yeah I don't blame the Actress, she totally killed the 'Dumb' Role. I 100% Blame the writer
Right Regina would say something snarky and most likely write it off as trying to nice the new Regina is just flat out mean in people’s face
@@yemisifamu2169 I agree! That's what made you see how deeply manipulative she truly is.
This one was kind of realistic because I see other girls insult their friends and be blatantly rude to them and then act nice aftert
The "she doesn't even go here" line in the og is funnier bc Damian isn't supposed to be there either (being a girls' assembly) and he's clearly trying to stay undetected atp but still couldn't help himself.
It sounds like all the actors are reading a script. The movie has no “soul”
i do genuinely think janice and damian are the only believable characters in the whole film. and i guess kevin g too but other than that they all seem like caricatures of real teenagers. in real life regina would probably be more sneaky and probablematic, cady would probably be a lot more complex of a person, karen would be a lot less stupid and gretchen would be a lot less outwardly insecure around the plastics minus maybe karen
its hard to make it ur own too when so much of the lines were owned and delivered by the OG movies characters :/

Like the emotion is kind of there but I just can’t see it well enough
It's WAY too exaggerated. Watch the "you think you're pretty" clip for reference.
Oh my God I love that comment LOL
That’s what I was thinking! Karen in the original movie is dumb but she’s not a useless character.

I DIED laughing at that part XD
“not ur mothers mean girls” i swear all teens watching this have seen the original and though it was way better.
Hard.
Oh yes, the fashion is soo awful.

I think it applies to being far away acting different than up close. She probably sold it on stage, but in film it’s not there.
Yeah that’s exactly what I thought after watching it
It’s funny how this movie says it’s trying to be its own thing yet nearly every scene just feels like a clip show of all the iconic lines and moments from the original but made in a way that feels like the director is sitting behind you with his hands on your shoulders and going “Oh here we go, look, this part is coming up” in that tone of fake excitement you use when you desperately want someone to enjoy something that *you* think is good

Honestly, LOVE that Alex brought up the whole "guys can do whatever they want and not get called out for it" thing. Everyone has different experiences but mine fell more in line with his. I've never seen a guy NOT get called out or insulted back for being a jerk. Maybe I was just "fortunate" enough to have that childhood.🤷♀
EDIT: I should clarify, I’m JUST focusing on what people say about guys because it’s never addressed.
You've never called out a man for being a jerk? I sure have.
YES, agreed!!

I’ve loved movies that came out long before I was born and the OG Mean Girls was one of my favorites and I loved all the songs in the OG musical but it’s kinda disappointing what they did
Mine is white chick's, never fails 2 make me laugh

Agreed, also wth is this comment section. It’s sad guys, replying the same thing on all the comments on here.
It's funny when it's organic, it seemed like a reflex response, or a forced reference to the original in the clip shown here. I don't know how it comes across in context though.
It’s literally me
Alex’s increasingly accurate jokes about lesbians lead me to become even more suspicious of him actually being two small lesbians in a trench coat
His girlfriend is bisexual. He's also a former theater kid so he's very well-versed with queer people.
BAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA STAWP I CANT 💀😭
This is one of the funniest comments I've ever seen👏😂👏😂👏😂👏😂
Request: could you cover "A Cinderella Story" sometime soon please?? I'd love to hear your commentary and I feel like there is so much to talk about when it comes to Carter alone - he is literally one of the most 3-dimensional best friend characters I've ever seen in a Disney Channel Movie.
(Please ignore me if you've already said you wont cover this 😭) Love you Alex!!! 💙
I love the movie.
But, funnily enough it’s not a Disney Channel movie.😂😅

As an ex-plastic in real life, I loved how realistic the first movie was at showing how girl culture really is, how we talk about people behind their backs, and how everything is fake. But the new one is just unrealistic. The plastics wouldn't be this super tight knit group of friends, they would secretly hate each other.
“It’s not bad, but just, like, why?” - Alex Meyers, 2024
That could be the motto of the entire 21st century so far.
8:52 Im sorry but this was such a jumpscare like why does he look like that💀
omg😭😭😭
Unattractive.
Man y’all are a bunch of Reginas here 💀
@@Rosa-kd2clI think it's the way he turns that makes it so jarring.
Like, my god, he's going to break his neck. It looks so uncomfortable.
Does anybody notice that in 9:47 the mom is holding the camera backwards😂
"Sexy" might have done nothing for the plot, but it was the most entertaining thing for me in the whole movie. And I spent the whole movie going "Wow, Regina and Cady are really into each other".
Yes! They should’ve said “fuck Aaron, let’s date each other.” In the credits, Regina does kiss Cady’s forehead.
I love sexy so much
Sexy did do something for the plot, it shows Karen's innocence but girls obsessions with looking hot on Halloween. Th only thing IS that they forgot the other scenes leading up to that so it failed
Literally everyone is gay in this movie
It was a bop, not going to lie.
And the last scene Regina and Cady had with each other, I was thinking 'Regina, just asked her out already.' lol
When I heard we were getting another Mean Girls I genuinely thought it was going to be like, the original girls grew up and had kids and now their kids were going to be dealing with today's high school issues. I didnt know it was just a musical remake 😕
That would’ve been better
Yeah I would have enjoyed that.
They "kinda" did that, except it was just some phoned in ads for Walmart or some other store (can't remember which). So, what you said, but not even close at the same time 😅
Same. Idk why but I thought this was the case with Lindsay as the School Counsellor. LMFAO
This movie feels like the Disney channel straight to dvd/streaming version
As an African, it's so hilarious house she's just sitting in a national park or something ☠️ literally no one ever does that
Fr, we have literal hotels in national parks. No need to thug it out in a tent
I love how Hollywood thinks all of Africa’s wild lands are just barren and dry near-deserts. They did it in The Lion King remake too.
@@DuelaDent52The Lion King was never supposed to have humans and some of Africa is kinda like that
Her mom is a zoologist, so it kinda makes sense in this context
Here in the U.S We have national parks, too. I stay in tents.
Love how he dropped this movie on a Wednesday
Bc on Wednesdays we wear pink 😁
I love your videos so much!!!!! They are so funny! You should do videos on the Divergent series!
It’s such a shame bro because the musical is so good but they butchered it so badly 😭
I jokingly call it “if Mean Girls and Gossip Girl crossed over into one film but aired on the Disney Channel”
You mean Bridgit Mendler.😉
You mentioning Crazy Ex Girlfriend just made me imagine what it'd be like to have Rachel Bloom write a spoof of a movie musical. She'd kill it!
This seems like a drama play at a highschool function by regular highschoolers tbh
9:13 IF THIS MUSIC ACTUALLY PLAYED IN THIS SEEN, I WOULD BE THE HAPPIEST PERSON ALIVE-
*Scene.
One thing I know about Hollywood now a days is they don't know how to remake movies
@@YourFavBritishBoy_PipPirrupthe original stage musical was better yeah, but it still wasn’t GOOD…

Only thing that changed for the good is that Cady transferred from Kenya (an actual country in the continent) instead of just Africa and having everyone assume, she lived in the jungle or sth😭. 8:03

1:26 did she just run away from her mom while singing?
In 20 years have 2004's teenagers had teenagers? Like, they all saw this at 13, had kids as 20YOs, now their kids are 13? I mean, I guess, but how common is 20YO parenthood these days?
Common enough. I have a few friends with teenagers. I'm 35
@@xletragedyx I mean, fair enough, my brother likes this movie and was 21 when it came out and now has a nearly 12YO. Still, the whole "not your mother's Mean Girls" thing strikes me as about 5 years too early.
@samos4924 it's very strange to be old and not really feel old. My kids are 3, and yet to be born. Seeing my friends' kids touring colleges on Facebook is very very weird. Also probably depends on what part of the country you're from lol
Im 35 and I have a 15 year old. 😅
@cjd5235 I love my kids and my husband but I do wonder what it would be like to be my current age and almost done with child-rearing instead of just beginning. People my age and a little older with kids in their teens and 20s are always on vacation and stuff 😭
13:04 Well said 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
As a gen z this movie is NOTHING like how school goes so now it’s relatable to no audience, but I’m glad they got rid of that weird plot point of the Asian girls fighting over the gym teacher.
I mean I never thought gen Z had spontaneous musicals 😂😂
that's probably cause they don't really go to school anymore, they just make tik-toks and march for whatever "activism" is trending.
@@m0t0b33That's a lie, kids were fighting to go to school during the pandemic
@Snow-xd4rv why would they fight to get sick
@@WutherRailthey're teens, they thought covid was just a cold for a hot minute (like almost everyone)
This is how I felt as well. I was prepared to love it because I generally like musicals, and I loved the movie, but overall just felt so unnecessary. It was like someone telling me what happened in the original in a less funny way, taking lots of breaks to sing songs, and it just made me impatient.
Also plenty of people have pointed out the abysmal fashion in the new one--the Plastics are supposed to be as attractive as possible, so why would any of their clothes fit weirdly and look bad? see specifically: that corset/mesh pink camo top
i honestly don’t mind that top it just does not fit regina’s character at all
@koiloylo ikr , regina doesn't have that snarky , smiling while roasting you , teenage bimbo energy , she's dull , andjust mean but not in the funny kind of way , like sure , she's supposed to be hates but you were also supposed to be entertained by her , find her funny but you want to stay out of her way , this regina is just mean and you just want her gone
Like the actress is fun outside of the movie , she isn't giving regina but she's fun on her own
What sucks about this movie is that they tried to take the songs from the musical and the story from the movie (which are essentially the same) and recreated none of the magic from either property.
10:49 Hold up. Wait a minute. Something ain't right.
MY NAME IS REGINA GEORGE AND I AM A MASSIVE DEAL 4:03 also I love the original I am a theatre kid as well
10:40 or so
I realised something
Karen is like the patrick thing with spongebob going on like
Patrick in the beginnign wasnt just dumb but with the new writers...just yes
And i feel the same with OG and new karen
I feel like the "new one" (forgot the actresses name) kinda tried to hart to deliver
Ok i shouldnt compare the musical movie with the OG but with the musical itself
