There are Thousands of instruction videos... But there's something about the way this channel delivers it.. Matt inparticular . This is channel is apart of my daily routine!!
Once again, perfect video! Plus your voice is so soothing, it calms me. Thank you again for being you and giving this gift. Simple, doable and clarity.
Saving this and one other video, to help with what I now realize is GT that came to light when you tried to kill me with that follow along you created for you 70-something mom :D Love your channel, thanks for all you give to the world.
Thank You Matt HSU. My left hip was burning 🥵 with pain. I hope to do your exercises morning and night so the pain goes away over time. GOD BLESS YOU. I used to do yoga 3-4 times a day in my 20’s, swimming, running and then I stopped working out but relatively skinny with muffin topping and I’m no longer size 0, I’m like worst than a size 4 and it sucks to be in pain. I’m avoiding yoga also. I hope to be able to do all my workouts again soon and not be in pain.
Thank you Matt. I have been watching, and doing (most of the time) the exercises you and your group have on this channel. I have sent your link to house bound friends . Hopefully they will get off their derrieres and exercise. All the best for you, your family, and your able colleagues, 🙏😎
Been having hip pain!! And I tried that butterfly stretch and it relieved quite a bit! It reminded me how I used to do it every day in gym class in middle school, no wonder I didn’t have hip pain until recently
Just starting today. Love your videos. I’m very inflexible!!!! Miserable with less movement. Too sedentary for years due to back, hip and knee pain. Overweight!!!!
Omg this is amazing. This work out is really helping me out. I was so stiff couldn’t tie my shoe on the left side once I try this stretch it started helping out instantly.
Thank thank thank you, all of your hip material is off the chart👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. I was begging for hip replacement because I was in soooooo much pain all the time.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼you are the best.
Thanks a lot for this video.i always find it difficult to do sitting exercises like what u hv shown now on yoga mat or on the floor..I am sure using the block will make it a lot more easier.
I am 45 years old and I have recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my right hip. Too young to already have these complaints and too early for an operation. Your videos inspire me, although I don't know if they are intended for my complaints. I do notice that it improves mobility and reduces pain. I prefer to postpone surgery for as long as possible. Are there any exercises that you can recommend to me?
What can you do for hips that can't do the butterfly at all. I've been told by two orthopedic surgeons that I need hip replacements on both sides. I've been to PT twice once in 2011 then in 2018. Same exercises clam shell bike steps monster walk. Nothing that really helps with more range of motion so I can sit butterfly style. The pain is excruciating and Both Drs told me my right hip femoral head was deformed from a bone spur. There must be something I can do. Can't even meditate and sit lotus style or do any of the poses that cause you to open up the hips. I believe I can gain more flexibility. Just don't know how. At 45 I am not doing a double hip replacement. 😬😭
Matt ive been dx with bilateral FAI. X 2 surgery made no difference on right hip. Its mainly deep acheing pain in trochanteric region, there is no groin pain. The big trigger is the sitting yoga position which leaves bilateral soreness for weeks.. any tips. Could it be gluteal tendionapathy, although pain is not palpable. Could you put some more videos on tips for those with FAI + purely lateral trochanteric pains and whether we need to avoid external rotation and abduction stretches initially as per GTPS protocol.
These were pretty good stretches my inner thighs feel great rn but I thought this was for hip stretches, still really good just not what im looking for
Thank you for this video, I recently got into rock climbing and I realized that my hips are very stiff and not flexible. I cannot even sit flat against the wall because my hips are so tight they are always slightly bent inwards. Do you recommend me doing these stretches or something else to further help my hip mobility?
Hello thank u for ur vidéo. I m not confident enought to do theses exercices on thé floor. Would you be kind enought to " elaborate" exercices from a chair. That what i actualy try to do with you video 😉😊
Hi, I was diagnosed with F a I syndrome and I was told never to do internal rotation stretches like that. It seems to aggravate my hip. What are your thoughts?
Hello, Matt. Thank you for these exercises. I have a question about the shoes that you're wearing here. I like being barefoot or wearing barefoot-minimalist shoes, and I am looking for something to wear indoors. Thanks!
The stretch isn't too bad, it is the contraction after it is finished that is painful. What am I doing incorrectly or is there some else I need to work on first?

I'm not able to do the third stretch with my right leg wrapping back (left leg wrapping back is fine, as are the other stretches). Is there a modification to this that I can use until my hips are ready for the right side? Or a warm-up that help get there? Crossing my fingers someone from Upright Health sees this sooner rather than later and will respond :)
I'm in my late 30s and already having hip problems. I feel I need to maintain flexibility now or I'll be a stiff, crooked old man long before my time is done.
Matt, hello! Hopefully you can give me your best advice but I'm feeling an odd pain on my left upper glute and may be the reason why my outer knee feels slightly funny though nothing painful. I have been weight lifting for many years and lately I been trying to improve mobility and flexibility. I was thinking if improving hip internal/external rotation would have any benefits?

Definitely a good idea :). Tips are to keep doing the corrective exercises and make lifestyle adjustments so that you aren't rounding shoulders as much when on the computer / phone. Examples could include getting a standing desk, taking breaks every hour, etc.
hi Matt, quick question, I believe my hip pain is stemming from impingement. I've been trying your suggestions and my hip feels better after but I feel an uncomfortable pinch just shy of painful during mobility movements. should I continue to push through it?
Hey Matt thanks so much for this. I really struggled on the first excercise to keep my knees together my right groin started cramping. I really struggle when im on my back to bring my knees together and flex towards my chest. Any tips?
As someone who sleeps on the floor having a tight left hip I’ve been doing this every morning without knowing it doesn’t work maybe because i dont have yoga block
I appreciate all of your content and find much of it useful but the Butterfly is a problematic stretch. Earlier this year I hurt me knee pretty badly doing the Butterfly stretch. It set me back almost two months. Only afterward did I find out that the Butterfly stretch is known to put pressure on the medial meniscus.
Sounds like you were putting in WAY too much intensity on the stretch. DON'T try to force yourself into positions. Doctors like to blame tiny structures like meniscus and cartilage for mobility issues. It's a pointless and disempowering perspective backed by ZERO science. ATM. Always think muscles. Walking, running, skating, hiking, jumping, and walking up stairs all put "pressure" on the medial meniscus. And millions of people are walking around right now with "meniscus tears" with zero symptoms. Learn how to stretch properly. If you follow the advice of "don't do that motion ever again..." you'll find yourself in pain, lying on the floor, wondering why you can barely move anymore. I can tell you that from experience.
@@Uprighthealth "If you follow the advice of "don't do that motion ever again..." you'll find yourself in pain, lying on the floor, wondering why you can barely move anymore. I can tell you that from experience." I believe you about your personal experience, and I'm sorry you've had to go through living with pain. But I wasn't doing the stretch intensely. I hadn't even placed my hands/arms on my knees yet. I just got myself into position, and almost immediately felt a sharp pain in my inner knee. It was a position I'd gotten into basically every day when I was younger. But with an older body that has taken a pounding (from various things, including martial arts) stuff that used to be OK isn't always OK anymore. "Learn how to stretch properly." With respect, I've been an athlete since I was 12, and among other things was part of a highly competitive martial arts team with instructors who had won or were competitive in various national competitions. I know how to stretch. I've read about stretching extensively including authors who are academic researchers and others who have trained olympic athletes. If I were a betting man I'd be comfortable wagering that I've read more about stretching than some trained physical therapists. The butterfly position was fine for me for years, until it wasn't.
Yoga block was the missing magic bullet for me, THANKS!!!
Enjoy!

Can these routines help with FAI?
Awesome. But my problem is i fall back when i sit on yoga block. I want to sit without any back support as a priority. Please help.
Like the pants Matt, where'd you get it?
What's the length of that yoga blocks??
Hi luv your work, will these stretches help me turn my hips over for high kicks in Muay Thai ? Thanks

Does the yoga block make the stretch deeper?
So i dont have a yoga block can i ude something else?
VekzusV2 ofc, there is nothing magical about the yoga block. Take anything that gets you to the right height. Books probably work
And ruin my books?!? No way!! 😉
You must have fragile books?
Ouch pinching pain in back on last stretch
Can you do it without yoga block?
Where can I get those shoes?
Shanley Shoupe- try looking at the detail under the video - there is a link to recommended gear. Hopefully the footwear will be in that.
