Thank you 🙏🏻
So helpful in understanding the cons of FSD. As someone living in Korea, it was really great to hear the real defects that other youtubers don’t really talk about. Thank you!
Thank you 🙏🏻 glad I could help
I love to see familiar surroundings in your videos. You almost drove up to my apartment.
Thanks for watching, Tim!
Totally agree about that "swimming". Especially when just changing lanes. works fine on highways since it's using v11 stack. but v12 has that "swimming". I have the same 2024 M3
For the video purposes I just let it be, but when I’m driving or someone else is in the car I just disengage when it does that bc it’s too embarrassing 🤣
It may be a way of improving observability for interpreting the lane markings. There is very little information about velocity and acceleration for vision-only systems, so the manoeuvres are needed to 'understand' the scene. It is a consequence of not having velocity sensors, such as LiDAR.
I like your video. You helped to point out most of the errors or deficiencies that 12.3.6 still has. Thanks.
It’s amazing how good FSD is, but the little quirks like you mention at the start (choosing lanes, rapid acceleration from stop signs) those really annoy me when I’m doing FSD with my M3. That’s what keeps it from feeling like a normal drive.
It really is an amazing technology. But “human-like” right now? I don’t think so
Interesting drive, ty.
I had got 12.3.6 2 days after 12.3.5. It feels just as good. I think it still ignores my max limit speed set too much. I only seem to get nag if I keep my eyes off the road and then I just put my hand over the turn signals without touching anything and the nag goes away. Somehow it is sensing my hand hovering over the controls. I use assertive only and find it isn’t assertive enough at times. When coming off the highways it slows down below the speed limit too much before hitting the off ramp. NJ ramps are often drawn bad. I also get all the same hesitations while stopping, merging or stop signs turns. Blinking red lights are still an issue. I can see it noticing potholes because I daily drive on a bad road and it goes well under the speed limit due to the condition. Like 10 to 15 under. When I nudge the accelerator to make it go it’ll launch to max speed.
Definitely not assertive enough. I can’t imagine what the chill setting is like lol
You can flick the left scroll wheel, up or down, to provide the needed feedback for FSD nags. I find there's less tendency to accidentally disengage when using the scroll wheel vs torque on the steering wheel.
That’s what I use to dismiss the nags. Just wish I didn’t have to do it as often
I get the “swimming” thing. Every time some is behind me and that happens they must think I’m drunk or just a jalopy.
I always wonder if it looks as dramatic from the outside as it feels inside. Sometimes I too scared to make eye contact with people who have been behind me at a stoplight 😅
Some of this stuff is familiar, but never have the lurching so that is interesting feature I'll watch for:)
“Feature” 😂 thanks for watching!
I still have trouble with slow right turns on red and stop signs. In some left turn lanes I don't get a swimming motion, I get a straight up quick back and forth jiggle that scares me and I disengage. I have to go to chill mode to avoid a lot of lane changes because in my path to and from work, I go to the lane that will not merge up ahead or have parked cars during scheduled times. At this point I am not sure if I want to subscribe to FSD but I think these can be solved. Like you said, it doesn't really do a lot wrong, but it is going to annoy like a new driver.
I had the FSD for the month of April. The biggest issues I had with it were:
1) Choosing the wrong lane. It would often get in the “right turn only” lane when going straight.
2) Making a right turn on a red light, even when there is a “no turn on red” sign.
3) It doesn’t avoid pot holes.
I had to take over too often for it to be worth paying $99 a month. I’ll try it again in a few months.
Thanks for the video.
#1 is the primary reason I have 4 disengagements every time I head home from work.
@@Str8ABH AI and Neural Nets. Pretty impressive, eh? NOT
@@DerekDavis213It’s actually impressive as fuck 90% of the time. But you’re right, I should probably use another company’s non-geofenced, in-vehicle neural nets.. oh wait
@@Str8ABH All self driving systems are weak and buggy right now. But because Tesla is the best of them, we should admire them? NO.
FSD has been renamed to Supervised driving, which is a scam to all the people that paid $15k or $12k, expecting a Level 5 system.
@@DerekDavis213 The only “scammed” people that were expecting a level 5 system are the ones lacking reading comprehension. I couldn’t care less what or who anyone else admires. As long as my car keeps getting updates and makes progress on making my daily drives require less input from me, that’s all I care about.
Metztech can you tell if regen braking is being used for the majority of the time in FSD?
I think you are correct, when it left that gap it was doing so so that cars exiting or entering that parking lot (business) on your right would have room, but the reason why once traffic started moving it didn't wait for that person to pull out is because that person was giving almost no indication they planned on pulling onto the road, they didn't creep forward and indicate they were taking the right-of-way. I think you should have just let the Tesla drive, in my experience it detects fairly accurately when other cars are asserting their right-of-way, if they don't assert themselves that's their fault.
Totally. It’s tough when that person in the other car is making direct eye contact with you as you let the car drive past them 😅🤣
Just got this last night. Is this permanent or just a trial?
You got a 30 day trial
Yes! Every single issue you showed here is an issue I have identified multiple times to the FSD team, and the problems are not getting better. I have seriously begun to think that FSD is never going to be ready for Level 3 self-driving.
Yes, so many v12 point releases, and the problems persist. Maybe v13 will be a major jump?
@@DerekDavis213It’s getting pretty good but no way is it as good as me. I hate when people over hype it.
@@ken-mb5cp I hate when people over hype it too. But that happens a lot. I would not trust the lives of my wife and child with FSD. Absolutely not.
@@DerekDavis213 Though today was the first time while using it that I though gee this is actually ok. I’ve been saying it sucked up till now.
Wear sunglasses. It will mitigate the nagging. It also learns to trust you when you are responsive to the nagging and as a result, nags you less and less.
Can FSD do u-turns?
Yes.
Good review video.. Does anyone tell you you look like Derek from the movie step brothers?
Ha no I haven’t heard that one!
I seen where if it nags too much that in the same trip to disengage and then re-engage fsd you won’t get nagged as much 🤷🏻♂️
I’ve watched other people hit a button on the screen that flags that spot so that it can be reviewed probably by computers but at least reviewed. Do you ever hit the flag button to show the problems? Just curious.
I have done the voice clip when it disengaged but I haven’t do the spot button. How do you do it?
@@MetzTech I’m just now researching to buy a Tesla in the next two months, I just happened to watch a few of the people who are doing reviews on each update and noticed that when they say something like “let’s flag that as a mistake or problem” they reach up and seem to just tap something on the top right of the screen. My comment was just as a curiosity if you ever did that or maybe you could show others how it’s done. We are all learning so if I find out I will pass it along.
The button is only available to OG FSD testers. Everyone else just has the voice input upon disengagement.
My 2021 model 3 has yet to update, it’s still using version 11.1
Anyone can help?
Are you on 2024.8?
@@MetzTech yes
That’s why. They haven’t released v12 for the 2024.8 branch
If these are all the complaints we have with FSD, it’s on a really promising track.
It’s definitely on its way!
Your camera placement prevents viewing the road ahead.
If you turn off assertive it will not speed up fast and slam the brakes.
I always interpreted it as “assertive” on lane changes and turns more so than acceleration
Mind of nag as much when I am just looking forward and it is a road that does not have that many intersections
Even when I’m not talking to camera and looking fully forward it nags me 😪
12.3.6 on my 24’ model 3 is crazy scary
Other people are scared too. Despite all the AI and Neural Networks, FSD continues to make mistakes every day. Human supervision is 100% required. So disappointing.
The hope is that as it gets smarter and smarter those mistakes decrease. Same concept with cars adding safety systems. No matter what it’s a great % safer than the average driver so it’s a net positive. Hopefully FSD continues to trend that way
@@MetzTech _No matter what it’s a great % safer than the average driver_
May I ask, what is the average driver?
I am average, I think. I can drive every day for 10 years without an accident, and in any city in America. No problem.
FSD is not better than I am! 😄
Then I would say you are above average.
@@MetzTech Mr Metz, you've probably had a drivers license for at least 5 years? You are also a much better driver than the Level 2 FSD software.
love your videos. but the volume is little bit too low
Really? I haven’t heard that one yet! I’ll keep that in mind
The swimming thing is a big nuisance. Especially, like you pointed out, when there is anyone else behind you.
No doubt. That needs to be corrected quickly
😍
Elon mode = no nag
Elon mode = take the money and run. To Mars!
Highway is v11 stack. City driving is v12
🥳❤💯💢💥💫👍👍👍
