Yeah. I buy a vehicle and drive it till the wheels fall off, then put new wheels on and drive it some more.
I've had multiple vehicles that I drive for 200k plus miles.
Had a 92 buick regal that the odometer broke on at 192k. I drove it for another 8 years. Probably had 400k on it when I gave it to my dad to trade in at a push pull or drag sale for $1500.
Had a subaru WRX. I drove for 200k like I stole it every day. Only cost me about $1500 in maintenance over the 10 years I had it. Bought it used for $18k.
If you calculate out the cost of ownership per mile. Putting a few grand into keeping an older vehicle on the road saves a ton compared to buying a new car.

The other car in the family is 16 years old and was dealer purchased after one of those stupid guys leased it for 3 years and returned it in perfect condition. Each of the cars has a few body spots where a rock made a little "ding" or whatever, but sound motor, great inside, and great cars.

One party is incentivized to break the sacitity of marriage and the other is just a complete victim with zero rights. So why do so many women nowadays have husbands who are more like another child to take care of- including many who aren't earning money? They stay married a long time! I know of several- and they won't divorce no matter how pathetic he becomes because she loves him.

That man's lady is already signalling she's problematic. That man knows that but is allowing is 'feelings' to keep him 'moving forward' rather than his thinking. His thinking got him to ask this show what he's already in conflict about (his feelings vs his thinking... he should side with his thinking).
It sounds like that man been on his purpose and has done well to accumulate his money and now he's 38. My question is the question every man should ask himself when he's thinking about bringing a lady in. For what purpose will she advance or "new" purpose is she intended to fill? Will she be a 'acceptable return' on his investments or a 'money pit' (most women are the latter so be ready vetting such ladies out without hesitation).
She's already in conflict with that man's purpose with her money atrophy mindset (undermines what got that man to where he is now). If that man isn't looking for 'kids', she really has no 'purpose' beyond a recreational arrangement (aka: we're not building a family but we're just having 'feelings' and costing him the amount of money 'feelings' without purpose deserves...not much, as 'feelings' are a temporary 'state of mind' and not something attainable). If the man does want kids, she has to have the self discipline to honor duty to the family he's creating as her feelings will 'wax and wane' and she has to persevere despite that.
That man's lady doesn't appear to have the self discipline with money he needs to compliment his life and not create serious atrophy to his fortune. A women you are going to be 'stuck with' through marriage needs to be 'unproblematic'. She is problematic now. A prenup is important but that's your final line of defense if she becomes 'problematic' _later_, not already 'up front' (and don't be magnanimous with it, make it harsh... as she won't have to 'worry about the terms' unless she wrecks the whole thing). Your primary line of defense is:
    1) Does she serve a 'purpose' to that man? Not 'emotional'. If she is not going to make kids for that man, it's pointless to get married (the most expensive way to get stuck with a lady and have nothing to justify the expenses and risk being introduced). Marriage is 'for the kids'.... not for you... it's a sacrifice you make for the betterment of raising the kids and not justifiable otherwise. It's a big loss to the man so don't take that loss without the prize being included (aka: the kids). You'll lose a part of your fortune raising those kids but they are worth it (she's not... she's just a necessary expense as a means to have and raise those kids).
    2) Is she problematic? A suitable lady should be fit, feminine, friendly and agreeable. Ever lived with a disagreeable person before? Perhaps a roommate you had to kick out or somebody that stayed with you for a while. It's a nightmare. This is way worse getting 'stuck' with somebody like this though a marriage contract (the most expensive eviction process for you caused by voluntarily entering a restrictive marriage contract with a problematic lady).

Always, always, always, get a prenup, and signed way before you decide on a marriage date. Clause #1 we add up all income from the time we are married to the time we get divorced, subtract all expenses, (and I do mean ALL), then we split the remainder 50/50. No Alimony, child support if applicable, and no tapping into wealth earned prior to the marriage.

If she's not following your lead.. which it's kinda hard to expect a woman in her late 20's to do. Asking her to be a submissive wife is like asking an old used piece of tape to still be sticky. Unless she was recently widowed and had only been with that one man, or something like that. She's in her settle down with an older man with money stage. This comes after her promiscuous youth and before the likely divorce. Follow your gut brother!
