1. Tracking your spending 2. The miscellaneous category 3. Your budget will be different every month 4. Working towards a specific budget goal 5. Cash out the categories that you tend to overspend
Great advice. I can vouch for tracking your spending. You will be surprised at how much $$$ is going to purchases you thought "Oh, I hardly spend anything on ________". A few years ago I tracked how much was being spent on restaurants/bars, drive through, carryout, and delivery meals. Oh, that can't be right...and it was LOL! Nipped that in the bud!
rachel just said, '' purchases you need''. every thing i buy, i need. it either maintains my paid for house, or allows me the serenity to get up in the morning. ''all things in moderation, nothing to excess.''
Thank you Rachel! I'll have to try the misc. category for dental and vision appointments, these bills are never consistent and it drives me nuts. Worst system ever, you've had my insurance for two years. You should be able to tell me how much my appointment is going to be at the beginning of my appointment and add on work from there. SMH
Got a better app in mind? I use YNAB but my sister can’t afford the monthly fee so she is trying Every Dollar. Seems like a great app for people that don’t need bank integration
married for 29 yrs, till she passed. she was a disabled stay at home. she worked the budget, i worked the work. we were always broke, even tho the house was paid for and there was money for bills and day to day. turns out, when she passed i found closets stuffed with stuff and learned she was a shopoholic. ''just because you ''budget'', does not mean u do it well... 6 years on, i don't budget, i don't keep track and everything is auto pay. ''last 6 years have been the best ever.''
Free spirit spender doesn't mean you're not good at budgeting nor does it that you can spend money when budgeting. Budgeting simply helps you keep track of your habits and bills and keep you accountable to your goals.
Never understood why people do this thing call budgeting. When you don’t have money, only buy what is needed to live. Also, only buy things when you have enough $.

i always laugh when people talk about eating out/entertainment.
as a happy hermit, i just can't imagine paying money to be with people...
I remember when Dave said you should not have a miscellaneous category, because you’re being specific about where your money is going.

Good information. The envelope system really helps. Unexpected stuff comes every month. That is the toughest category to keep ahead of monthly.
Unexpected expenses category. What not used is carried to the next month, and next, etc. Shouldn't need it every month if doing an honest budget.
Background music annoying
Not to me
ignore mich. it's worse than my tinnitis...

Re different but known items each month sinking funds work to achieve consistency.
I wanna attend the seminar in Tennessee!
I love your advice Rachel, but I had to give up on this video because the background music was so loud and distracting!
😂😂

What’s wrong with that? She’s trying to help you budget. They built a great tool to help with that. We should be thankful.
Have you tried it yourself? I love EveryDollar and I plug it to my coworkers all the time.

Rachel is a self admitted free spirit spender… and she’s a budgeting expert?

You did 3 commercials in this maybe more
Sorry, I didn't budget for the $70 wallet

Some people just can’t stop spending.
