    I know this is an old video, but I am absolutely blown away by the detail and thoughtful layout of this video. I’ve been researching these 3 models religiously as I plan on buying in the coming months.
    There’s really nothing I’ve seen that compares. I also appreciate him taking time on trunk space. It’s often skipped over but I feel like it’s such an important detail. And also showing the close ups of the dash, from other photos and videos I had no idea the dash was ✨plastic✨ on the xc40.
    Anyways, well done man! Thank you! Subscribed!

    I have a 2017 T6 AWD XC90 R-Design with the Polestar Software Upgrade, so the midrange power has no turbo lag. It has every available trim level option (4 corner air suspension, Bower & Wilkins audio, carbon fiber interior, heated windshield and rear seats, auto self parking). Audi Q7, BMW X5, Mercedes GLE, etc., will cost at least $10-20K more for the same amount of options, not to mention their lack of standard safety tech that Volvo is known for.

    First rate reviews Brian! We love our two new V90’s, and I agree with you on wishing for a few more basic controls, but the voice activation works well for adjusting the climate system (navigation not so much). The steering wheel is fine guys...lol.
    The cars look and drive amazing; so far beyond the P3 prior generation Volvo’s: handling/driving dynamics, steering assist delivery, braking modulation and feel, are all vast improvements, and now on par with the best in segment, IMO. Brian, more steering feel comes with the optional bigger wheels, lower profile tires. I will admit that I miss our older inline 6 turbo cars, but not as much as I expected. These 4 cylinders have good pep for their size, plus their lighter weight, now positioned behind the front axle, really influence that improved handling characteristics..
    As for price, Volvo always offers large discounts, and are guaranteed to be less expensive than comparably equipped Audi, BMW and Mercedes.

    Great video guys,the balanced opinions are respectfully delivered but the viewer can appreciate you have a higher than average experience to quantify your statements .I own a V90 X Country and the polestar software upgrade on my D5 engine does improve gearbox fluency and lessen lag to a point but a more progressive throttle input is the only way to mitigate against it.I need internal space/load carrying/off road capabilities for my hobbies but the hybrid XC60 may just be a compromise worth having.....,this is video review utopia ....well done in your presentation.👍

    Thanks for this beautiful and very competent review. I have owned ten Volvo’s over more than 25 years - 850, V70, XC70, XC90 T6 (2002), XC90 D5 (2004+2007), V50 2.0D (2), XC90 V8 and XC90 T6 (2017). My current XC90 has all available options. I am now selling the XC90 and seriously considering to buy an XC40 (B4 AWD R-Design). In the course of an international relocation, I do want a more compact and less imposing Volvo with lower running cost. I fear the XC60 wouldn’t be a real departure from the indulgence I have (truly) enjoyed with the XC90, other than that it has five seats rather than seven. Does that sound reasonable? Is there much to miss?

    Interesting but it would have been slightly more helpful to compare the three cars at the same level in the range - I.E. the R Design for all 3 with the top of the range (or bottom of the range) engine and gear box. Comparing the top of the range engine and spec for the XC60 against to bottom of the range XC40 is odd. For example the key with the RDesign XC40 is leather I.E. identical to the one shown for the XC90.

    The 'Cambridge' link to the 'Alpine scenery' was a bit strange, until I realised there had to be a Cambridge in South Africa. A very good review that got across the look and feel of each car and covered the significant points. Given that the XC60 is the family car, I would have liked to know how well it pulls up those hilly roads with three kids in the back and a passenger, since this is where, in central Europe, engines make it or break it, puff it or guff it. And even more so for the XC-40, given the three-cylinder engine.

    Hello from Sweden. I would like to say that this review is top class. An excellent presentation. I have the Volvo XC40 T3 (Osmium Grey), just like the one you drive in the test but somewhat more equipped. Absolutely love this XC40 - still very fun to drive. The fact that this little 1,5 litre engine is 150 kg lighter than the T5 with 248 HP creates a much better "balance" in the car, the weight is more centred in the T3 and thereby the entire driving experience feels more "light". Just a note regarding the cabin noise: I can see when you drive the XC40 in this test that you need to shift gears a bit faster - you linger for too long on the 2nd, 3rd and even the 4th gear. This revs up the engine too much, the rpm is too high and creates an unnecessary high cabin noise. A faster gear shifting will lower the rpm and the noise considerably.

      lol, if i have to change how i drive the car to reduce cabin noise, that’s what we call a non-starter. would’ve been nice to see/hear it in the highway as well. most people spend WAY more time there than in the mountains. geez.

    • @robert4you
      @robert4you ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scottl6490 What do you think happens to the cabin noise when you drive in second gear and revs up the engine to 4000 rpm? Or 5000 rpm in third gear...? Have you ever used a manual gearbox? You sound quite ignorant...

    I regret that the auto companies reduce features when they reduce size. For me, I would prefer XC90 trim for XC60 price in XC40 size. I took European delivery on my XC40(T5 R-Design); Yes, I am a suburban American, but I found parking, especially in some of the historic town centers, to be doable but not trivial. I can not imagine an XC90. Similarly, while I loved the Norway tourist highways like Geiranger-Trollstigen and Aurlandsfjellet, I do prefer when two-way roads have two not one lane. :-) While there were all sorts of busses, vans and campers there, it is another case where smaller felt better.

    We compared Audi Q5, BMW X5, MB GLE 450 and Volvo XC60 Inscription T8 PHEV for about 1 - 2 weeks from a high end rental business. We bought the Volvo kitted out with the heated steering wheel and other goodies. The Mrs likes it so much we are trading in our Subaru and getting a 2020. But since she got to choose the options on that one, I get to chose the colour and other options on this new one. I think the colour will be the only difference and maybe cargo nets and some little things. My only disappointment is we cannot get a diesel powered model in North America. Is it worth upgrading to Inscription from Momentum? I'm looking to change my 2016 Honda HR-V in a few months.

    • @jeffs6090
      @jeffs6090 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jacobthompson8507 - first off, that will be a huge and incredible upgrade from your Honda. You'll love it!
      Second, not so much imo going to Inscription. It really doesn't add much more since all the options are roughly the same. The Inscription gives chrome inserts in the grill and chrome around the windows. I definitely prefer black window surrounds. The Momentum allows for different interior color options, like the amazing red I have. So, it depends on the overall inside and out appearance you want in yours as to what trim you get. My Momentum has all the options boxes checked which isn't different from all the Inscription's boxes being checked. The Inscription also has a crystal shifter and a leather wrapped key - not really worth it. I hardly touch my key but to put in my pocket in the morning and take it out when I get home. I have yet to need to hit any buttons on it for anything. The door handle does all the locking and unlocking.
      The R Design was also out for me. Although I liked all the design features that are different, I know I would not have liked the seats. Though they are nice looking, the suede inserts are hot and make me sweat.

    • @jacobthompson8507
      @jacobthompson8507 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeff S That’s exactly the same for me. I hate these new ‘suede’ seat options on sportier trim levels, Audi, Merc, BMW and Volvo are all doing it. There should at least be an upgrade option for leather. That is the only thing that rules out the R Design for me, as I like the 2 tone roof, but Leather seats are a must, my 2010 Vauxhall Astra had them, and now my Honda has them. The leather key will only be scratched anyway, but since I’m looking at a Onyx Black on the XC40, I think I prefer the chrome. I need to see the car in person anyway, but I wouldn’t mind waiting too see what the new Lexus UX and Audi Q3 are like. Thanks for your advice anyway 👍

    • @jeffs6090
      @jeffs6090 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jacobthompson8507 - the UX looks pretty nice, but I think that's where it ends for that car. It's vastly under powered and a Lexus trimmed Toyota ch-r (aka cheaply built). The new Q3 however will be a great vehicle! One worth waiting for. Last I heard from my Audi dealership, it'll be here spring time. The current Q3 fell flat for me. I considered it, but too needed more power. 200hp was just too sluggish. I hope the new model will have more. The XC40's ~250hp is perfect.

    • @jacobthompson8507
      @jacobthompson8507 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeff S Yeah, but I feel like I should try something other than another Audi. (I’ve always had 3 cars). Basically, I have a City car (A VW Polo), average sized car (The HR-V) and a Premium car (An Audi S5). I want the next SUV to be premium. My biggest cars have ALWAYS been Audi’s, and I’ve not had another brand. I’ve currently got a S5, and I feel like I should try something different rather than adding another Audi too my long list of previous Audi’s. I’ll wait to see what the Q3 and the UX are like anyway, because the current one is way too out dated. I’ve narrowed it down to those 3: The Volvo, the Audi and the Lexus. Hopefully I’ll get a 19 plate in March if those cars are in dealers quick enough 😂.

    That hoarse joke at the end..... haha

  • @softgrapes
    @softgrapes 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is a bit unfair really, you should have compared the same trim across all 3 models. An R-Design or Inscription XC40 would not feel as "economy/cost effective" as the Momentum in this video when compared to those R-Design XC60/90. The key fob in the XC40 in the R-Design and Inscription trims is leather as well. There are also more engine options available other than the 3cyl petrol in this video. The same 8 speed auto from the bigger cars is also offered in the XC40...you failed to mention both those facts.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, do you know what effort it already takes to get three different new cars on one location? It's not on us to decide which trim they are. The pure availability of those vehicles in one spot is already special. The extensive facts on each car are in our separate videos: th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=autogefuehl+volvo+xc

    • @MJHKing1
      @MJHKing1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Have to agree with Ronny. Quite a few comments suggested that it was the model that was responsible for the feature rather than the trim level such as the comment that Volvo want you to know you are in their cheapest SUV. You don't just buy an XC40 because you're a peasant, you might buy it because you live in a narrow terraced street but you max out the options to make it feel luxurious
