2015 Toyota Camry XSE: Not your mother's Camry! Real Review and Test

  • THere's no doubt that the the Camry is a smart buy...and that American's buy a lot of them.(It is the #1 selling car). That doesn't mean, however, they are highly coveted by the enthusiast crowd. In an effort to change that Toyota brings us the 2015 Camry XSE with the Technology package.
    In this video I go over the ins and outs of the Camry including the exterior and interior styling, driving dynamics, interior space and function, MPG and power, and technology.
    As always you'll find my car reviews to be real, authentic and unscripted.

    That was a good review. When compared to the Euro-sports-sedans, the Camry SE and XSE are quite competitive. In 2013, I had traded in my 2 year old 5-Series BMW for a silver Camry SE 4-cylinder, because I was so impressed when I test drove the Camry. Now, that I have driven the 2015 XSE 4-cylinder, I am even more impressed. My 2013 model is very impressive when cornering, high speed super highway driving is smooth and effortless. The car is right in line with the performance of my 2 year old BMW, without the reliability problems and cost of ownership. I actually like driving the 2013 Camry more than the BMW. However, I will be buying the 2015 Camry XSE with the even tighter suspension and upgraded interior. I will never return to BMW after owning a Toyota.

    I purchased a 2015 Toyota Camry XSE last week (Feb 11, 2015) with the blind spot monitoring, rear cross lane traffic alert, remote engine starter, and wireless charging. I traded in my 2013 Hyundai Sonata turbo for this vehicle. The Sonata was a very good car but it lost value really quick over a few years. I had no problems with it but I wanted a car with updated technology and resale value to include better gas mileage. Yes, the Sonata has a faster straight line take off but the Camry 2.5L 4 cylinder really impressed me.. It is tight in the curves... I was driving on I-75N leaving Knoxville, TN heading to Lexington, KY and this car held the curves with no problem and much better than my old Sonata. No roll, no squeal of the tires just smooth, quiet riding through the curves and looking great doing it! It is very well build and the interior is nice with the leather and suede combo seats. The video does not really represent the interior as well as seeing it for yourself. This car does not feel like a 4 cylinder at all, it gets up to speed pretty darn good and I'm thrilled that I made the upgrade and trust me, it definitely was an upgrade. If you want to get your money's worth, own a car that's sexy, reliable, safe, quiet/comfortable yet aggressive, then buy the Camry XSE with the 4 or 6 cylinder engine. You will not go wrong and will definitely enjoy this car for years to come!

    Its amazing we had a 90 4cly dx and a 91 6cly dx. What a difference from the 90s to today. The 90 deluxe was nice. Bucket seats powerlocks and windows. A basic boxy car. Now the power everything is amazing, comfortable and all the new age tech is just great. Such a nice looking ride.

    I liked your review, I look to make a purchase within the next week or so. I am currently looking at this car and the accord, and altima. This really helped because the"XSE" trim is really nice. I recently heard that Honda and Nissan's "cvt" engines were problematic so I will be researching that a little more.

    Nice video, I have a 2012 Camry SE, and my wife has a 2014.5, and we used to make fun of how many Camry's were on the road, but we bought hers back in July, and I bought mine used, about a month ago, and we've realized why so many Camry's are sold each year. Simply put, they're just that good, it's everything you need, nothing you dont, it reliable, has plenty of space (I can fit my drumset in mine), and in SE trim, are actually fun to drive, also I'm 6'8 and 300lbs, and I can fit just fine, if you're looking for a safe, reliable, and surprisingly fun car, the Camry is worth a look.

    Great Review! Just one thing: Toyota's target demographic is people ages 45-75. That being said, people of that age usually have a difficult time seeing. So, they make the buttons larger so they can see the buttons easier. Keep up the good work!!

    I bought my 2015 Toyota Camry XSE V6 used two years ago. It is quite a great car. When I heard you state the price for this 4cyl, I was thrilled with my choice. My last Toyota Camry SE V6 was bought new in 1994 - did I say, 2 door coupe? It was so reliable that I only replaced it in 2020 - just because I needed a bigger car. It had 158,132 miles on the odometer. The coupe's new owner loves her like his favorite child. If I strike it rich, I am going to beg to buy her back and restore her. Toyota only made the Camry coupe for two years - 1994 and 1995. Classic. If they brought it back, I would buy a 2023 Toyota Camry V6 Coupe in a minute. Thanks for this fun test drive. I love learning about cars.

      I purchased the XSE V6 version I actually haven't gauged the mileage but, it seems a little gas hungry compared to the SE 4 cyl version around town driving for obvious reasons but it's not a gas guzzler big 6. I'm planning a trip to L.A. from Vegas next week so, I will keep you posted on the performance.

    Mine has a V6 and it is a wolf in sheep's clothing. It just doesn't stop. Only complaint is torque steer.....not good when you hammer down while turning from a stop, it could get away from you. I had an '06 with a V6 and test drove the 4C 2015 SE and it surprisingly compares nicely. When I got behind the V6, OMG, hammer down and it just pulls. Can chirp at 30 MPH! Paddle shifters are nice too. Got the Black and had windows tinted with side window vents. Downside is Navigation as you can't change destination on the fly. Also, as you pointed out, the ride suffers slightly with the wheels/tires. Black is PITA o keep clean...LOL.Thanks for the review and mostly spot on.

    Well done review sir! The Camry is a very nice car indeed, I have the 2016 base LE model. The 2.5L works well in the car, jumps right up on the highway. I think the XLE trim would be icing on the cake.

      They are both great trim levels it just depends on if you want the sport model or the luxury model. I also have always liked the wheels better on The XLE.. they look more in line with the Lexus ES 350 and it really makes the car stand out.

    Toyota did a really good job with this new camry. I love the looks in the XSE model and the interior looks great. I LOVE the fact that they have SUEDE on the interior. Great review. Crazy driving in the beginning but a good overview. Off topic but um, what's what the non-standard Altima lights at 2:51? And I believe the Accord at 2:54 is a PHEV electric vehicle. Hardly cars we can see at the local dealers and none of them are the same as the compact Camry, which is MUCH improved over previous models. Maybe even a man will buy one now that it's "butched" up. But $32k is ridiculous for a Camry. Better to get a stripped down Audi A3 which offers all the same tech. Crazy price.

    • @DisneyMusicVideos
      @DisneyMusicVideos 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Antonio Cognato Yes I did & it's amazing!!! The V6 is extremely refined & has a nice quiet rich sounding growl! It's very fast & pretty fuel efficient as well! It's also very rare on the road & at dealers where I live cause everyone buys the OK but somewhat boring 4-cylinder versions, but the V6 is far better! My grandparents drive the Lexus version of this car the ES 350 with the same engine. Trust me, it's well worth the 5k premium over the 4-cylinder.

      +Antwoine Wallace The Lexus has a few more luxury features that aren't available on the Camry such as power folding mirrors, & power adjusting steering wheel & memory seats. The Camry V6 starts at 31k & the Lexus starts at 38k. Either way they're both great cars & will last for many years with very few problems.

    I just bought a Toyota Camry XSE 2.5L 4-cylinder as well and I LOVE it. I traded in my old 98 Toyota Camry LE 3.0L V6 and I am amazed at how great this car feels. In my daily driving I also drive a 2013 Lexus RX 350 and I love that car but to be 100% honest, I love driving my new Camry more. If you are considering this car, I would highly recommend it! I think it comes equipped with more than the competition does, and it's a nice blend between a sporty and family sedan. The Mazda 6 is obviously more of a sports sedan; but I wanted reliability and re-sale value in my new car as well.
    If you can shell out another $5,000, I would also recommend the V6. It posts a 0-60 right at 6 seconds, which is amazing for a family sedan that you can get for under $30,000. Toyota did a great job with this re-skinning as well.

      Wait so are you saying we should buy a 37,000 thousand dollar Camry give or take a few bucks! Man you must be smoking something! Especially when I bought a 2014 Accord Sport for 19 grand out the door. No need for blind spot, adaptive cruise, or any other distracting price gouging technology, I know how to drive without the technology training wheels. Just my opinion

      youngblood23rb That is the top of the line model.. You can buy a Camry SE for $19,000 OtD as well. I don't need any of the technology either so I walked OtD with a 2015 Camry XSE for $24,800. However, I did get the moonroof package, and a few exterior enhancements on mine.

    Why can't we get these in Europe?
    The last Camry we got was the mK5; I had a Mk4 which I imported direct from Japan via Toyota Ireland. Only way I can get one of these as RHD is from Australia but the speedo is KmH, whereas here in the UK we use Miles still like the USA. I am prepared to hunt the world for a RHD with MPH speedo.

    Excellent review!! II had a 1986 Camry for six years and it was very dependable car but a bore. This 2015 car has pizazz. But calling this car's interior akin to "Euro" styling is like saying to your wife at a restaurant that you like her but prefer that blond waitress looks. Also, $200 for a floor mat makes me suspicious. wish you'd do a comparison w/ a Honda or other cars in this price range.

    its apparent that this guy has not driven the V6 Camry if he thinks the 4-cylinder is quick or peppy. I disagree with his statements that the V6 is unecessary unless you drive really fast or drive in hilly terrain--Its also about accelleration and injecting the "fun-factor" into the equation--theres no point in having low-profile grippy tires without adding the fundamental ingredient for performance--the powertrain--the engine. I have a 2011 Camry SE V6 and the engine is by far my favorite thing about the car-- it gives it a little bit of respect--othewise it is just a run-of-the- mill-appliance car that it is known for. Disclaimer: I realize that the Camry is by no means an enthusiast's performance car, but the engine is fundamental to driving enjoyment.

    Never thought I would be in such a disappointment with Toyota! I have always been a fan of Toyota cars, and own them. However this time I had a very bad experience from the Toyota Company and I feel that I had to share my experience!
    I walked into the dealer knowing exactly what I wanted to purchase, which was the brand new 2015 Camry XSE. One of my most important concerns about my car is the stereo and speakers. I believe that we spend so much time in our cars and I love to listen to my music while I'm driving so therefore my stereo and speakers needs to have the best quality. While doing my research on the car it explains that this car (Camry XSE 2015) has 10 speakers, so my expectations about my stereo were met, or so I thought. When I walked into the dealer and signed the contract it also stated that the vehicle had 10 speakers. As I drove the car for a couple of a days, I noticed that the speakers were not as loud as I thought/ expected from 10 speakers. So I started examining the car, and noticed that I had only located 8 speakers in the entire car. I took the car to the dealership; they could only locate 8 speakers as well. Five speakers in front, two very small speakers in back and one subwoofer that doesn't work!! Really!! The car has two spaces in the back where it should fit two big speakers, one is filled with a worthless subwoofer and the other space is empty. What kinds of manufacturers design this kind of sound system???? I immediately took the car back but TOYOTA would not do anything to accommodate me for this issue. I called corporate and they did not seem like they wanted to help me either! I paid $5k extra in order to get the premium package, but corporate tries to tell me that since this car is eco-friendly, this is all the quality I will get. They also mentioned that I have to maximize the sound to be able to hear the music, which makes NO sense to me what so ever! If I’m purchasing a new vehicle, and paying a lot of extra money
    for it, I would like my expectations from the car to be met ESPECIALLY when the contract states that there must be 10 speakers in the car! I shouldn't have to spend more money to change the speakers of a brand new car, since the Toyota contract is misleading, and I trusted them enough to sign! I'm VERY disappointed with TOYOTA! I'm unhappy with my $35K purchase due to misleading info, and I will NEVER walk into any TOYOTA dealership again. I just though I should share my experience with everyone so this doesn't happen to anyone else.

    • @gcavy1
      @gcavy1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nilo Mashhadi thanks for sharing, that's a bummer. I do know more manufacturer are using lighter speakers to save weight. All things being equal this would mean the speakers would be quieter. You can get lightweight speakers that also crank, but they are more expensive...I'm guessing maybe Toyota wanted to hit a certain price point and the speakers was an easy way to do so. I think the Camry XSE is a cool ride, and it still may be worth it to stop by a audio shop and see what they think.
      Thanks for watching!

      Are you really getting mad because of speakers. Sit down and really think about how well this car does everything and it will out way this little flaw. There are probably 10 speaker but may be hidden.
      Andif you cant hear without volume on max either you need to get your ears checked out or adjust your settings. If you have ASL off the car will sound very bad. I would take the time to read through your owners manual as well

      +lelUwotm8 No, only because of the gearing. The 4 cyl could probably go around 138 ish, but due to tire type, gearing, aerodynamics and the fact that the computer limits the fuel injection to 130, that's all you get. I suspect with the computer control off, the V6 could go 160, but that's probably not too safe in a Camry...
