    I love the technical side to your review. I also like how you appeal towards an average audience instead of speaking to a racing enthusiast audience. Much appreciated. Good video.

    The Camry is a great car. The 2.5L is quite decent and the 3.5L is a beast! The new body style is quite the looker too. ;)

      +PX PX We have a 2.5L LE and love it! Jumping up on the highway is a breeze and the ride is wonderful. I like it so much I'm considering an SE or and XSE. Thanks for the thumbs up my friend.

      I think the current Camry's look really cool. They aren't a Mustang or anything but I wouldn't be embarrassed if I drove one.

    I bought a Black on Black XSE V6 last month & I love it!!! It's my first V6 & by far my most powerful car ever! Mine has most of the options except for the Blindspot Monitoring, Lane Departure & the Collision warning systems. I'll enjoy this car for many years! Toyota FTW!!!

      Very lively smooth an powerful engine, sometimes i feel it's overpowered, It never gets old i had the same engine and transmission in my 2007, used that car for close to 7 years, and still didn't get bored of it, but we had to sell it.

      Great review as always, it just makes me wanna cry Toyota doesn't offer these great V6's over here in Germany...we have a similar model here called the Avensis...but the highest hp you get is like 150...where's the fun in that when you have an Autobahn with no speed limit...I'll never understand why we only get the crap engines over here...Subaru did the same...Levorg only 170hp 1.6...the 2.0 DIT with 300hp is not gonna show up here...gonna talk to an import guy xD

    I have a 2007 Camry that basically has the same engine and transmission. When you move the gear lever to "S" the number designates the highest gear you're allowing the car to shift to, not the gear it's in. Odd system, but if you know how it works you can use it like any other flappy paddle setup. The key to remember is that "+" isn't an order to upshift immediately, but telling the car that it may upshift when necessary, like at the top of the rev range or earlier if at part throttle.
    The important thing is that it'll hold a lower gear when you want it to or downshift when you tell it to. I mostly find this useful for merging and I want to bring the revs up to get instant thrust instead of having to wait for it to kick down.

    • @Phantom-ez4zv

      Beast of an engine , very lively, i had a 2007 too for years but sold it, some guy managed to turbo it, just youtubr turbo Aurion ( Aurion is like the v6 camry of Australia and middle east and east asia )

    Nice coverage of the First year ever 2015 Toyota Camry XSE V6 trim (7th Generation 2012 to 2017), a new trim level up from the XLE.
    The 8th Generation 2018 Camry XSE V6 has increased its HP from 268 to 301HP and the 3.5L V6 is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission rather than a 6-speed.
    Unfortunately, the 8th Generation Camry of 2018, 2019, and 2020, encountered some issues with its new total makeover, much was corrected in the refreshed 2021 Camry year.
    The 2017 Camry supposedly is one of the most reliable years and with very few problems. The best years are 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Toyota will finally release its 9th Generation Camry in Spring 2024 as production of the 2025 Camry will then start. Unfortunately, all 2025 Camry models and trims are Hybrid. The end of the Toyota Camry is here after 22 consecutive years as the #1 best-selling sedan in the United States. Yes! Toyota has destroyed its reputation under new leadership and the company is foregoing its demise.
    Hopefully, you will gain some weight as 90 pounds is very underweight. Please gradually increase your weight if possible to 120 to 130 lbs since no one knows your health issues.
    Stay well and be safe.
    I paid $39K for my 2023 Camry XSE V6 fully loaded in January 2023 an MSRP of $41,305. Sadly, it gets very poor fuel economy averaging 19.8MPG not 26MPG. Drive 65% city/ 35% HW. After 1 year odometer read just over 6K miles. I've constantly complained about poor MPG, The Toyota Dealership insists everything works as it should at each 6-month services. Going to another Toyota Dealer for my 18-month service. also, I have a 10-year/100K Toyota Care VSA warranty as I only intend to drive 6K annually, and will take more than 10 years before the Camry exceeds 100K miles.

  • @raphymartinez
    @raphymartinez 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    When you upshift in this type of car you are not telling it what gear to go to, you're telling it what the highest gear you want to limit it to. It won't go 20 mph in 6th, but if you put it in 4th (from a lower gear) for example and hit the gas it'll go to 4th and redline (some hit the redline and stay there, others override you and upshift after redline but not before)

    • @jaredmckinnon3620
      @jaredmckinnon3620 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is a very old comment but I must say that 4th gear in a camry would bring you to its top speed of like 115. Lets say you're going 60 and you put it in 4th. It will donwnshift to 4th and stay there, but if you mash the gas it will downshift again into 3rd gear. Below 60 it will downshift to 2nd gear.

    I know that I am a couple years behind on this. But I just watched this video for the first time and wanted to say: Great Video. It is 2017 and in the beginning of this year I bought a 2006 Camry LE. It has a I4 with 2.4L displacement. I bought the car because I wanted a reliable car, that also is fun to drive. The body roll I can relate to. I fixed that issue with a Megan Racing upper Brace Bar and GodSpeed Coilovers. Car is lowered now and set to stiff. It drives awesome now. I can take curves were I before could only go 35 mph, with 50mph. No more (or at least very very little) body roll. My camry is not fast on straight roads. But It can kick a Mustangs ass in cornering.....

    • @B61zz13
      @B61zz13 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, you've practically convinced me to get strut bars for my 2016 Camry now. Coilovers are a tad expensive for now but I really do like my 4-banger and wanna have more fun with it.

    I have this car...the system is not meant to tell which gear you are on....it is the max gear you can get depending on S what you select...lets say you are going 40 mph and then you want to speed or gun the car..you just move the stick to the left and the computer will go automatically to S4 that is like the middle gear you then have 3 down and 2 up from that you will know if you want to shift up or down depends on your situation and you have to feel it like there is an rpm revs and there is a speed meter....so i go with the numbers i shift and the rpm with the speed...it is pretty cool....or if you are like racing in range between 30 and 60 MPH so you choose S4 and the transmission will never go to S5...so the engine will always rev high and prepared for race maneuvers...+ - shift with the stick shift is quite fast.....but with pedal shifters may be slower

    If there is one thing I’d have to critique about this car since I do have the V6 is the brakes for sure. They don’t seem as effective as they should be. After driving my sister’s newer gen le that’s at least what I’ve noticed

    Honestly, I been looking at not too old used cars, and the fact that you can swap out the infotainment system for something new, is really making thinking about having this car. Toyota reliability, and ability to swap out the radio for a double din dash unit? Intriguing.

  • @jblyon2
    @jblyon2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've been averaging about 27-28MPG in mine. ~70% highway, but there's lots of hills between me and work...and that V6 is all too willing to rev...which I might take advantage of too much.
    If you go to buy one make sure it has the Michelin tires on it. If you see the Bridgestone tires demand that the dealer swap them for the Michelin's. The Bridgestone tires might seem fine on a test drive, but by 7-8k miles you'll get a dramatic reduction in traction, especially in the wet. They also wear out much faster than the Michelins. I replaced mine with a set of Pirellis at 14k and over half the tread was already gone.

    It's an excellent commuter/family car. Let's just leave it at that. Not every car has to be a racecar, TH-cam commenters.

    The Camry is really the only car I can think of in the midsize category which uses struts on all 4 corners. Probably makes for a cushy ride, but wheel articulation would leave a lot to be desired.
    The 3.5 V6 is actually quite a powerhouse; these Camrys can be real sleepers to any unsuspecting German sport sedan in a stoplight drag race.
    Overall the Camry is a nice car, but not very interesting to look at or drive. It does make a great rental car & if I were to buy one for some reason, I would pick the 2.5 Hybrid SE.

    The paddle shifters are not really a steptronic mode, it's a gear limiter. So say you're in 4th, it'll shift up to 4th gear for you and stay in 4th. So since you were in 6th, it'll shift up to 6th gear for you. It's not a conventional steptronic/tiptronic gear box. Idk why Toyota does it this way.

      I have the 2016 Camry as well, 2.5 SE. It's just a facelifted version of your version, only changes made from yours are cosmetics. It's actually a pretty fun car, I love hugging the corners with it and once in a while, just flooring it as I merge unto the highways. I think Toyota/Lexus have been doing the transmission thing for years. My 2001 Lexus IS has the same thing happen in "manual" shift mode. It displays the highest gear I allow it to be in at the time, not necessarily the gear the car is using at the moment. I'd rather have the gear being used be the one indicated as well.

    And that's normal for the brakes now. The last Camry was as sensitive as sleeping baby and I feel like I heard someone say that they made them less sensitive at some point.. Mine is exactly the same way and I have just the base SE.

    I hav a 15' SE 4-cyl & feel I should have gone for the 6-cyl due to the lag when I hit the throttle. Would you personally go for the V4 or V6 15' Camry if you were in the market & why? Also, I completely concur on the paddle shifters inaccuracy & slow response time. I rarely use it. Great review by the way!

    correct me if I'm wrong. I know that no two cars are alike. but honestly comparing the corolla to the camry... aren't they pretty much the same asides from the different interior and that camry are available in V6 ?

    • @drinkingthatkool-aid3193
      @drinkingthatkool-aid3193 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Corolla is a compact sedan, Camry is midsize. So they're not even in the same class. Regardless, the Camry is a different interior, more expensive and is you could a bigger Corolla (8 inches longer, I believe).

    How does this Camry XSE V6 compare with the 2015 Subaru Legacy 3.6? Which one is more quiet and fun to drive, and which one do you recommend overall?Thanks

    • @EngineeringExplained
      @EngineeringExplained  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Good question. First off the obvious of whether or not AWD is necessary, Subaru does a good job of making a system that works and isn't incredibly inefficient. Both had similar gas mileage on my test course. The Subaru had more comfortable seats for me personally (softer), but they were a bit wide. I also think the Subaru's touch screen was more receptive. Both had solid audio systems and were similar in how quiet they were. The Camry was definitely quicker (and lighter, thanks to FWD). I don't think I'd characterize either as all that fun to drive, but the Camry would probably have the edge (as long as weather was nice). My decision personally would probably come down to whether I needed AWD or not, as honestly I thought they were both great. That said, I'm yet to drive some of the competitors which also have been well received, such as the Accord, Passat, and Mazda 6. I certainly think it's worth testing several and choosing what fits you best personally.
