    The 2AR absolutely WILL burn buckets of oil if you take Toyotas advice and change the oil every 10K instead of every 5K. The piston rings get gummed up, scores and damages the cylinder walls, and BOOM, burning buckets and buckets of oil. They see it every single day at the Toyota dealership. Those who DO change the oil every 5K or 6 months (and yes time matters just as much as mileage) fair much much better. But this engine CAN absolutely be an oil chugger if you don’t look after it.

Most conversations about why they choose their vehicles waa that they wanted and have passed down the vehicles from generation to generation. One guy bought a Sienna cuz he had 3 littles ones. 14 years later and he still had the van and was still in great shape. I always kept that in mind.

      Toyota covered the torque converter for 8 years or 150k miles. Mine just failed last February at 86k. My 8 years was in June.
      My dealer replaced the torque converter free of charge no questions asked. Best customer service on a vehicle of any brand I've ever owned, including Honda.

    I just wanted to point out the fact that the Toyota Camry has had the 2AR-FE since 2009. This was the year the engine was introduced and utilized in a lot of Toyota vehicles, it was meant to replace the 2AZ. If you're looking for a used Camry in North America, anything 2009 or newer is a safe bet. 2008 and previous years used the 2AZ which was known for its oil burning problem.

      It's probably more prominent on the 4 cyls. I've had my '20 xse v6 for 4 months, no transmission issues. I Have witnessed the transmission "lag" people speak of occuring rarely whenever I drive on Eco mode. It's like a tiny delay, rather than a lag. Like it's trying to find the right gear for you. Then again it's Eco, and trying to save you gas. I drive in Normal and Sport modes more often and have never had this "lag" issue on those two driving modes. The car wants to learn how you drive, so It can adapt more AccorDingly. Get it, accord? Nevermind.

It’s a beautiful Cosmic Grey 2012 SE that only had slightly under 116,000 miles on the clock and only one previous owner whom obviously babied it, as I had discovered when I washed it and detailed it for the very first time 2 weeks ago. And as far as being “the perfect used car for anyone,” you are 100% correct! In addition to such crucial categories as safety, reliability, fuel economy, comfort, and low annual cost of ownership, it’s got everything else I really wanted: leather interior with sueded inserts, sunroof, paddle shifters, Toyota’s awesome Entune infotainment system…the works! And the proverbial ‘icing on the cake?’ ‘Shadow’ is quite a looker! I get tons and tons of compliments from all of my colleagues on ‘his’ angular, lantern-jawed looks, which is all the more remarkable considering how I park on the side of our office building where 4 of our executives park (a.k.a. Millionaire’s Row) and they all own 3 newer Mercedes-Benzes and 1 newer Volvo S60 among themselves. In a nutshell, my Camry SE more than holds its own in the aesthetics department. Really glad I’ve watched your videos for a little while now, because 2 months ago, I found myself shopping around for a nicely used Camry and had to choose between a white 2010 LE model with the exact same 2AR 4cyl/6spd auto power train or a 2012 SE V6. After driving both and looking at numbers, the older one came home with us! The SE was far superior in terms of power and tech, but a $5500 price difference and harsher ride wasn’t worth it. The 2.5 in ours has plenty of pep to get us up to Tahoe and all around Northern Nevada with relative ease.. and with gas prices being jacked up around 35-40 cents more than the national average around here, it’s miserly fuel consumption is greatly appreciated 😂👌 Keep up the great work, Scotty! Your content has more than likely saved your followers millions!!

    The best thing about toyotas, is that they have an amazing engine bay design, simple, elegant and easy to work on. This was for me, pretty much the decision making point, when deciding between a civic and a corolla as a first car. When I popped the hood of the civic, it was too cramped. I then bought a 2005 corolla. Best decision ever!

    I've got a 2012 le with the 6 speed and it's had shifting issues from the start. There was a recall on them, but I missed it by a couple weeks.
    It shifts fine from first to second, but throughout the rest of the gears it bucks and chatters as if it's slipping if driving normal. Now if you drive it kinda hard, it shifts beautifully. It's a little better if you shift it manually and let the rpms climb higher before shifting.
    Toyota said it was a programming issue on the transmission and it required a reflash.
    I bought the car used over 3 years ago, and seeing as I missed out on the recall, I can't see paying the outrageous price they want to do the programming on a 12 year old car, so I just drive it kinda hard.

    I own this model and after a good while on research, I recommend to buy the 2014.5 model instead. It comes with standard back up camera while 2014 and previous years doesn't. Also 2014 and previous years have issue with transmission lock up something feature that maximise the gas mileage which cause the shudder at city speed and been claimed as can be fix by updating the computer module. (Some car reported to have torque converter has to be replaced)

    • @vuvu3421

      @@brittmounce2949 the problem doesn't seem to be coming from mechanism design but the computer's software on when to shift gears base on speed. So i guess by update to a less aggressive gear hunting code, it solve the issue.

    • @brittmounce2949
      @brittmounce2949 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vu Le so as far as you know this isn’t a physical transmission issue?! My brother is a mechanic and he ran the code check and nothing came up so he just changed the spark plugs and fluids. My car has 125000 miles on it and never a problem just this shudder at low rpm’s sometimes?! I’ll keep driving it as is because everything looks good. My 2009 Scion xB did the same thing for 2 months after I used the shift tronic thing once just to pretend I was using a manual. Anyway the shudder disappeared after a few months so my guess is maybe overdrive computer glitch that may fix itself.

    • @vuvu3421
      @vuvu3421 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brittmounce2949 my car is 2014.5 so i never had a chance to experience the issue myself. But base on my research and review from my friend about his '12, the problem does not seem to effect all camry 2012-2014 and if does, it should show symptom at very early mileages.
      Your car has well passed 100k miles so i would say the trans would break down already if it's in the blacked list.
      And as mentioned in Scotty's other videos, it seems like Toyota is really pushing to meet that mpg regulation with newer models. So unless you gotta has a brand new car every while, it would better keeping the current one until its last days than trade in for a newer that hunt gears every second given the fact that new Camry trans has 8 speeds to switch around with.
      Bonus point here, Toyota receiving numerous amount of reports with paint issues so they are setting up to has a repaint program for all super white/pearl color models at no costs. Not sure what is your car color but if it's super white or pearl. Hold on to it. Cheer!

    Dads 2012 camry finally died on us after 285k miles, it would’ve went to 500k but my dad had never serviced the transmission and never changed the fluid so it ended up going out on us. He says it’s the best car he’s ever bought and though he replaced it with a 2023 accord hybrid he still misses it.
