Modifying 21335 Motorised Lighthouse to work without batteries on a 9V power supply

  • In this video we've built and placed set 21335, the new Motorised Lighthouse in the Lego City.
However, once we placed it where we wanted it, we realised we needed to eliminate the need for removing the set from the city layout in order to change the batteries. We didn't want to do any permanent alterations to the battery box and render it unusable later so we came up with a solution using a 9V power supply and the existing battery box which doesn't require permanent changes.
We think the placement of the lighthouse near the castle and having the train travel between both will look really cool later on when the Lego Mountain is finished.

This is a really great video for those interested in converting from battery to wall power! You did such a good job explaining and showing the whole process - and you answered all the questions I had. Thank you so much!

Excellent video. I wouldn't have known where to even start with this, and anything similar on TH-cam seems to be US-oriented.

Perfect! I was looking for a way to control the lighthouse with Siri along with the rest of my modular building LEDs. I just need to follow your method and plug it in to the same smart plug as the others. 👍

How about alligator clips on the ends of the wires which one would attach directly to the contacts inside the model. This eliminates the need to use the battery box at all. Also what gauge wire did you use?

Thanks for the video. It is just what I was looking for. Have you had any issues with the heat caused by this method? I have been told converting lego motors to electric can over heat and cause damage to the lego bricks.

Hi, thanks for the comment! I haven't had any issues at all. Once you use a max 9v DC power supply, it should be exactly the same as a fully charged battery box.

Can you post a link to the materials you used to convert it? This is awesome, and I was hoping someone had worked out how to get around using batteries. I just bought this set, and the battery issue was something that had been nagging at me possibly keeping me from buying it.

Hi Kevin, I'll add links to all the parts in the description tomorrow. I purchased them all from Amazon but I'm sure they can be got elsewhere depending on where you live.

Parts links now added to the description. These are all UK links as that's the Amazon site I use but you should be able to search for the same parts for your region. Best of luck with the mod.
