Man, that just looks SO much better! The Dark Red really helps break up all of that white, and really helps give the lighthouse more of that vintage feel in my opinion!
I like it. Having worked as a painter for a short time, I wouldn't worry about the white showing through. It could be worn from the weather, the structure shifting and causing gaps to appear, or just a lackluster job by the painter to fill the seams with paint. I like to explain things a little too much...
Jippieh, you are back! I already missed your videos. I really love them and watch everything single one. One can feel the great passion and the large amount of effort that you put into your city. That's what makes your channel great. Always continuing your motto "packed and stacked".
After not watching for a long time now binge watching to catch up. Wanted say I only thought lighthouses' ever had red and white stripes, and big thumbs up to Smeaton's Tower (Plymouth, UK) photo used at 2:30 mark. Love the final result.
Fixed indeed! It definatly stands out more against the wall now, and thanks for that partlist. I will fix mine as well, I really enjoyed building it but did'nt understand why they went for only white either. Anyway good to see you back and I look forward to included with some witty RHB banter!
Love this one and you're right about the top band being too thick. Nit picking, but would add some dark green sea grass, seaweed at the base of the rocks to break up the transition with a few orange crabs for a splash of colour - maybe one on the beach or at the back of the cave peeking out / standing guard. I'd add a flotation ring to one of the bollards and maybe a fisherman there to show some sign of [minifig] life.
@Robin Hood Bricks more than like, Robin. You inspire me and many others with your designs and fun attitude and approach to them. My 5 year old especially loves watching you. He always asks to watch the 'Lego Hand Guy' on my phone.
I love the pop of colour on the lighthouse ! It looks miles better now. I would possibly add a layer of white stripe at the top to break the band up a bit and its slightly to big in my eyes, but still awesome regardless! Glad to see you back as well!
Definetly improves the look of the lighthouse against the white wall, and I glad you chose the dark red rather than the brighter red I think it matches the wee cottage much better. A quick but very effective upgrade. 👍🏻👍🏻
Absolutely brilliant, Robin! I plan to do this to my light house set as well. It definitely makes it pop. Great job on refitting it. Keep up the amazing work, my friend.
A great customisation. And I totally agree about adding a little bit of white right at the top. The upper band of red looks slightly too thick at the moment and I think the white would add to the look.
Definitely an improvement to an already wonderful set! I do think the top stripe looks a bit off being thicker than the rest, would love to see how it looks with a smaller stripe of white at the top to balance it out. Hope you’re well Robin, glad to have you back!
Well Robin, you beat me to it. This was the first thing in mind when I saw the set. My favourite real life lighthouse is striped like this (Nieuwpoort, Belgium). Now I know how it will look like when I can modify mine but I will choose the normal red. If interested check out the lighthouse of Ostend, Belgium. Really cool striping for that one. 😁
Great job Robin. 😁👌 Flashy..with out wasting money trying to get ..say. The dark red light house parts to you's from the Ninjago light house or hidden side light house..one s I'm Shaw the same red . .I'm guessing it was just a white light house .cas most light house s are just white. Now days. And the strip red an white one s was more a late 70s 80 s style. .but I like the strip style ..an that's why I got the creator set light house ..
So much better!!!!!!! It looks worth the price as a stripped lighthouse. The all white looked bland. Very well done Robin, now it stands out from the wall as well.
Thanks for the idea, it looks great! I decided to use the same color scheme. However, I left two more white studs at the base so that the alternating bands end up as follows: From base: 2 golden 6 white 6 dark red 6 white 6 dark red 6 white 5 dark red This way the top red band doesn't look overwhelming and, furthermore, the replacement parts are fewer in number and types.
You're welcome. I tried about six different options out digitally and thought this looked the best, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder so I'm glad you also got a look you like!
The new look is much better. I think the idea you had at the end about putting a single strip of white to keep the red bands consistent would look better and improve the pop of the top band and light level accordingly. It Looks like a little too much dark colors at the top in proportion to the rest of the build. Would the little light house work in one of the corners of the deep sea cabinet? Maybe if you don't want rocks going so far up it could be submerged at the top of a rock face area at the back or crumbled like the rock it had been built on had collapsed. It could then be a place of interest for divers to be poking around or reacting to a sea ghost/monster. It makes me wonder if the webbing piece on that set could be used for an unusual fin on something. For a suggestion on theme with this video maybe there could be someone with a red and white striped torso who had just finished repainting the red stripes on the lighthouse. I think it needs at least one figure somewhere on the lower level of the light house to make it look more inhabited regardless of what they are doing. Another option could be a small family on the stairs and/or using the viewer. Maybe a kid leaning over the rail to look but not quite see the treasure while their parent holds them back? The rail should work as a natural point for the kids hand to be to help hold them in precarious place. I think in the last tour video I noticed that the car had the top unoccupied. If that's the case it could be a good spot for a car related scene such as diy car repair such as changing a tire or checking under the hood.
Robin, you already have the LEGO Scooby-Doo 75903 Haunted Lighthouse, so what if you add them to your inner harbour, it's entrance channel and get the Lego 70431 Hidden Side Lighthouse for the other side of the channel? Turn one red and they could act as light channel markers, that are not floating in place. That then also gives you a second reason for why they are so low, the big one, is the main lighthouse, can't distract from that one, right? That it also gives you some added play options, in terms of hidden adventures... Plus for the Ghostbusters to go too and clear out, as well.
Love the dark red stripes. Looks much better. I remember you mentioned on your previous lighthouse video that you didn't like the fireplace light coming out the side of the building. I covered the back of the light with black electrical tape, and it completely blocked out all that light, so now you only see the light coming out of the fireplace.
@@RobinHoodBricks ahh, we’ll if it’s structurally made difficult I’d say it’s not worth a change. I thought maybe it was a simple switch. Thanks again for the video. Been looking forward to it all weekend. I watch all the older videos in between new ones coming out. Very best build videos and city out there I think.
Yes, yes, yes…..striped looks much better……especially against the white wall. Well done Robin.🎉 I do wonder if the small band of the top landing where the lite is, might look better as a narrow white strip.???
Your idea that the width of the band can tell you the distance away from the light house is not that far fetched. But rather after identifying which light house it is, you can look up the total height of the lighthouse in a big book, all ships have. and by measuring the angle between the bottom and the top of the light house, with a sextant you can calculate how far you are away from it! Doing that with only the width of the band would give you to small of a target and to big of an error compared to the whole height. *I know this, because I am a merchant navy sailor ;)
@@RobinHoodBricks usually you time your observation to the moment the ship is straight. Or you do it 3 times in a row and average it out. It also depends on the level of accuracy you want. If you do it right you can get up to 0,01 nautical mile accurate. but if you need that distance between you and a dangerous shallow you are cutting it very close.
Long ago I had a set called "apple tree house" that had this great looking dark blue roof. Maybe try that blue for the roof on the little building just to provide a contrast with the dark red lighthouse, or perhaps any colour...just think there is maybe too much red...or do the roof in normal red?
