    Thank you for a really gentle and relaxing video, that was just what I needed today. Good points well made as always, as pretty as that set is though, I could never justify that amount of money for it.

    The price of this is always going to be the constant sticking point and rightly so. There's a lot of other much larger more voluminous sets to get at a similar price to this. At one point, this cost virtually the same as the Ninjago City Gardens set, which has nearly three times the number of pieces and is a lot bigger overall, even ignoring extra thin extension parts. The Haunted House is similar in volume but it is still larger and it was less costly, despite having a lot more pieces. Yes neither set I mentioned have electrical components but there's more meat to them.

    • @searme
      @searme  ปีที่แล้ว +14

      As I mentioned, the electrical components cost $60 total when bought directly from LEGO, probably much less to LEGO internally, so they don't quite explain the price, especially since these are basic, off-the-shelf standard items: the cheapest hub there is, the cheapest motor there is and a $10 LED.

    • @AHYL88
      @AHYL88 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Sariel's Bricks & Pets oh totally, I agree, this set is massively overpriced, even with the motors taken into account like you said. Which is a shame cos it does look great. It's just that we've had better valued and larger sets in the past, like those I brought up, and even some which were also a lot less costly like Pirates of Barracuda Bay.

  • @Saruzeufel
    @Saruzeufel ปีที่แล้ว +6

    That assembly with the motor on rubber connectors is really interesting and a clever solution for such a big hollow set. I actually went back during the speed build several times to check if I saw it right. Glad you pointed it out at the end of the review.
    Also "dumb hub" made me laugh, great review!

    Maybe it's just me, but the camera view at 1:08-1:12 is probably one of the best backdrops you can have in a stream when you are currently out of the room. It's so peaceful and amazing to see the Lighthouse work the way it does.
    Besides that point, I really like how Lego designed this Lighthouse, though the pricetag is more than it should be as I expected around $250 at most for this set. Maybe I'll pick it up in the future since I missed out on the Old Fishing Store which was one of Lego Ideas best sets in my opinion. Great video analysis, I look forward to seeing more reviews from you again in the future.

    "Dumb hub"...I would have to agree. Overkill when a simple battery box would suffice and also cut down on costs.

    16:20 I don't see why Fresnel lenses wouldn't work with a directional light source as long as it's pointlike (which most LEDs are). Based on the light cast on the backdrop, it does seem to actually produce a relatively collimated beam of light just like the real thing, so I wonder what this comparison would look like from a greater distance.

    I like lighthouse in childhood and I want this set. But I am disappointed with the soaring price of Lego. I saw two people bought this lighthouse in Christmas but I only got a 40573🎄. It was astonishing to see someone has 21335 as a gift.

    Looking at the instructions closer, they did actually mark where the new pieces go, but they highlight them in lime-green which is barely visible at all. I could barely see it. Other than that, I loved this set.

    Awesome review, maybe better than usual :D The attention to detail was sublime, and the ways you pointed out various things we wouldn't see otherwise were great. I disagree with the Playability rating, there's at least two stars there. Especially if someone has extra minifigs, there's some things to be done, more than in the average City set, definitely, I feel. A few typos here and there, wonder if you could have someone look over your script once it's done.
    I'm going to upgrade my GPU in November. I have a GTX 1080 Ti right now, and if you're still on your old GPU, it'll be a massive upgrade. here is my two bits: so I think Lego marketed this as a mantle piece for the adult high end market, Its very refined, ( and of course lighthouse nuts like me) emotional detailing ,very well chosen color pallet,, it has nostalgic nautilus vibe, a bit sad but still in a joyfull way, I love it. . I believe later on there will be a second cheaper light house around the 200 with a bit less detail and a bit more cheery. that is more aimed for the mass market.
    this set is interesting for collectors, general price might get up for its rarity. we will see. I think lego really tried to sell a mood this time.
    well.. I like to get some more of those blue plates Will add a shipwreck somewhere with some rocks and crabs sea weed.

    you highlighted my biggest complaints: why no highlighting of new pieces in each step? ... how hard do you need to make this, lego?!, and why make it so hard to replace the batteries? (also how about mentioning somewhere that 6AA batteries are required.. if not including them in a $300 set?!).
    i do like the set, and just accepted i was being overcharged for it ($225 or $250 would have been more reasonable - high, but acceptable).

    @Bear1313 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the set and even though I'm not disappointed with it on my shelf, I agree on your two downsides. 1. The price is painfully high. 2. There really needs to be a AC/DC converter to avoid the batteries. Does anyone make a 3rd party adapter for the "dumb" hub?

    I would feel bad about how critical you are of this set, if it wasn't for the price. I understand that the price of Lego is naturally increasing, but for what you get, the cost for this set is a joke. It feels like, if it was made 5 years ago in the advanced model modular creator buildings sub-theme, it would either be 30%-40% cheaper, or be much bigger with maybe a larger cabin or lighthouse itself. In fact, im going to start looking up lighthouse mocs to make myself feel better.

    Why do you think it is a sub-mediocre, bellow average building experience?

    • @searme
      @searme  ปีที่แล้ว

      I explain it in the review several times. You need to search where the new parts go in the instructions because LEGO doesn't mark them. It's tedious and completely unnecessary.

    • @pocketsoarers6927
      @pocketsoarers6927 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@searme Your conclusion under "building experience" has a subtitle: "how interesting is the building process?" So, when I read sub-midiocre building experience I read that the building process is not interesting.
      You are saying that the building process is difficult and tedious due to the building instructions not having outlines around bricks. Perhaps your subtitle for "building experience" should be something like "how clear are the building instructions?" instead of what you have now.
      For me, building experience can be bad, even though building instructions are perfect. And vice versa.

    $200 would actually be questionable, assuming 10 cents per part and 60 Dollars for the power functions... And maybe the set should remain on the market for five years without a price increase, then something between $260 and $300 would be appropriate. Yes, it's still expensive, but if you really like the set, then a few Dollars won't make a big difference. Also it doesn't really matter, because a few years after EOL you get at least what you paid in used condition.
