Personally, the crack in the stone at the top of the stairs doesn't bother me, seeing as stone often has cracks in it. It could also be giving the effect that the lighthouse is very old.
It totally is a design choice and one I think that really makes the thing look less sterile. Just the right size of a crack, something the tight lego tolerances don't usually allow for.
With the unique lens piece, lighting, motors, and size along with inflation and rising costs the price is reluctantly fair. Lower would be preferable but this is such a unique set in an expensive time that the high cost is not out of the question.

I live in the rural coast of the UK and this whole set feels very familiar, from the small narrow tower, the old timey nautical style, the smugglers cave. Only thing it needs is at least 3 more seagulls and some washed up fishing nets.
Not worth $300, especially when they’ve relaxed so much on quality control. I’ve heard, and personally experienced cases of sets missing pieces, coming with the wrong colored pieces, misprints, mismolds, crumbled/creased paper/stickers, or a number of the above. I’ll invest my money in other sets and pieces, though.
I’m not planning on buying it but I’d say it’s close to worth it considering all it took to make the lighthouse work the way it does. $250 would be a better price but all costs are skyrocketing so Lego has to offset that even if I don’t like it.

It feels like this set contains a lot of good parts for the Lego city builders out there and the fact that it comes with the electronic parts means the price of the set increases too much for them to possibly get a lot of them and part them out. So for future sets Lego should possibly consider having the electronics in an "expansion" set. This means that people can use that expansion set for multiple builds if they don't feel like buying a new motor and battery every time the get a similar set to this.

It looks great, nice functions even when the light doesn't exactly seem very bright, and only a few things (mostly usual suspects like stickers) to nitpick on. The one thing I don't like is the price, €300 just seems way too much for what you get, even with the motor stuff included. But still not on a level that a nice discount can't solve, so there's still hope...
had not the electronics parts being included, the set would've costed 150€. definitely overpriced. there's no licensing on this one so the price isn't justified
WTF $300, no way. With sticker as a mirror, the barely visible light and only 2000 parts? Shocking! Lego does not compensate for inflation, Lego causes inflation.
I’m halfway through the build, and my only complaint is that the single clear plastic lego pieces tend to easily fall off the baseplate, especially when moving the model around.
Okay, but what does it look like next to a wall? Is the light bright enough to create a moving circle of light on a surface. I'm also curious how it would look surrounded by fog.
Can i ask? Is it possible swich on usb cable to feed motor and lights? Instead of AA batteries...Need some mod? This could be a really intresting video!
I liked the red on the original better. However, it would not be hard at all to change out some white pieces and make it a striped lighthouse, or modify it to look like any lighthouse you wanted. I think that is a big plus in the way they designed the panels.
"...rock formation.......very boring thing to build and look at...." I must be the only fella who actually still admires rock formations in lego (and is often swayed to buy a set just because of that feature). Maybe it helps that I am a geographer in real life. 😂
This set looks soooo good but I just can’t do $300. At $250 maybe i’d start to consider it. Shame. Hopefully it goes on sale when I have the extra cash for it.
It reminds me of Lego creator set 5770 which was also a lighthouse with a rotating mechanism and light reflected with a mirror sticker. I used to have this one as a kid and it was amazing
My guess on the boat is that it can't handle much weight before capsizing. It was fine with what was included, but if a custom build added more to it, it may sink. It's probably more of a case that it doesn't have enough buoyancy to pass Lego's quality control to make it an advertised feature, even though it technically can float in still waters.
The Old Fishing Store (21310) had 2049 bricks and costed € 160,-. This set has only 16 bricks more and sells for a whopping € 300,-. So with inflation taken into account, it’s fair to say that a few simple LEDs, a plastic battery box and and a cheap electro motor add about € 125,- to the price of this set. Wow.
I wish there was a non-motorized version for like 200€, because this is just way too much for me. It's a very beautiful Ideas set though, I'd put it in my top 3 for sure. I'd even go as far as to consider it a slight upgrade from the original concept, when usually, I find, it's the other way around.
I lucked out and found a pre-owned set listed by a seller 15 minutes from my house. Priced at $230, it included the box, instructions, no missing pieces and all extra pieces. I told myself that if I found a set listed close to what the MSRP should have been, I'd grab it.
The price of $300 is pretty crazy. Last year a set with this many pieces would be $200 max; add $50 for the power functions and 10% inflation and you would get $275.
It’s like they are inflating the price just to allow for retail sales and markdowns. But it’s also probably inflated because of the narrower distribution reach for a big Ideas set.
This sounds like a good idea for a MOC. Lighthouses come in a lot of sizes but if you want to make it taller maybe it wouldn't be too hard to duplicate the two center pieces of the tower. Use red slopes instead of white ones on those to get a white/red mixed colour scheme. You'd also have to extend the axle and the cable, which would be the only real problem here. Is soldering an illegal Lego building technique? :-)
hey, just telling you, the cat on the boat is perfectly logical since cats in army boats were used to fight of mouses and rodent, it is now a mascot thing that, for sailors, make them feel more lucky against wave and ocean, and is just a tradition within sailing boats
This is cool! I like the baseplate, peer, Rocky edges, the cave, the water effect is neat too! I like the anchor same with the house and of course the lighthouse
I mean with rising costs, inflation, the dedicated mirror piece, electronics inside, and the large size I’d say the price tag is justified even if I wish it were cheaper. People just keep wishing it were cheaper and that’s fair, just not our reality.
Great review! It is a very clever and cool build! I believe the exposed stone work on the corner of buildings like you see on the house is called Quoins (pronounced coins in english).
The dark blue baseplate is amazing. I hope that Lego will release it but know that they have tried to keep their baseplates to a limited range of colors. Tan and Dark Blue baseplates would be amazing, I don't mind paying extra if the plastic is more expensive for those colors. This set from the leaks looked strange to me but after seeing it reviewed here I think it is tied with the Castle for my favorite set of the year. So clean.
But like TC says in the review, when he filmed this he didn't know the price and estimated 250-300. With the electric elements 250 is fair, and it likely went up to 300 with the August price increases.

But still not on a level that a nice discount can't solve, so there's still hope...
had not the electronics parts being included, the set would've costed 150€. definitely overpriced. there's no licensing on this one so the price isn't justified
I am looking forward to getting this set. It looks amazing. You did a splendid job of reviewing it.
I would love to buy this as an unofficial The Lighthouse (2019) set, with a little customization!
WTF $300, no way. With sticker as a mirror, the barely visible light and only 2000 parts? Shocking!
Lego does not compensate for inflation, Lego causes inflation.
Taking inflation and the motor and lights into account, € 239,99 would have been a fair price.
some bioshock vibes going on; im sure someone will MOC this into a bioshock-esque lighthouse soon enough
I’m halfway through the build, and my only complaint is that the single clear plastic lego pieces tend to easily fall off the baseplate, especially when moving the model around.
Superb set and review! I am SOOO happy they made it in minifig scale! Though I wish it would cost around 200-250, frankly
Agreed! 250 would have been a fairer price
Amazing design how everything is hidden away so well and accessed. Thanks Tiago for the great review.
Great review all the way! And I enjoyed your humorous aside about the boat floating. Thank you, it really made me giggle.
"...rock formation.......very boring thing to build and look at...."
I must be the only fella who actually still admires rock formations in lego (and is often swayed to buy a set just because of that feature). Maybe it helps that I am a geographer in real life. 😂
Is the light from the lighthouse top like a real lighthouse, in the sense that it is a horizontal cone stream of light?
Great addition - if you already own the fishing store. But the price is quite high
It would be super cool to see a time lapse of you building these sets
Tiago, great review as always... but why don't you add LEGO SHOP in Italian too?
Normally i dont really like when interiors are super cramped but it honestly fits with this set
I desperately need those sand green triangle tiles for my Rebels Ghost moc!
This is a very good set with a lot of cool details, but its a little overpriced. It should have been $250 at most
This reminds me of playing with the old light house Lego set. Thanks for the very informative video
I'd even go as far as to consider it a slight upgrade from the original concept, when usually, I find, it's the other way around.
why'd ya spill yer beans
I lucked out and found a pre-owned set listed by a seller 15 minutes from my house.
Priced at $230, it included the box, instructions, no missing pieces and all extra pieces.
I told myself that if I found a set listed close to what the MSRP should have been, I'd grab it.
I will probably get this. Thanks for the review
This is probably my new favorite Lego set but for that price I hope it would come with more
The price of $300 is pretty crazy. Last year a set with this many pieces would be $200 max; add $50 for the power functions and 10% inflation and you would get $275.
Their greed is on full display at this point...
It’s like they are inflating the price just to allow for retail sales and markdowns. But it’s also probably inflated because of the narrower distribution reach for a big Ideas set.
I’would have liked it more if the lighthouse was a little bit taller and had that white and red color scheme.
hey, just telling you, the cat on the boat is perfectly logical since cats in army boats were used to fight of mouses and rodent, it is now a mascot thing that, for sailors, make them feel more lucky against wave and ocean, and is just a tradition within sailing boats
sigh, this falls into the realm of "I'd love to get it, its most likely worth the cost, but that's too much money".
I'm going to stop motion play Bioshock intro with this set.. 😳
love the boat float test lmao,, things like that rlly bug me so glad u disproved
This is cool! I like the baseplate, peer, Rocky edges, the cave, the water effect is neat too! I like the anchor same with the house and of course the lighthouse
This video has convinced me to make room for this set in the near future, not that I have room, but I will make room. It looks beautiful
Not many think that the price of this set is more than fair.
I mean with rising costs, inflation, the dedicated mirror piece, electronics inside, and the large size I’d say the price tag is justified even if I wish it were cheaper. People just keep wishing it were cheaper and that’s fair, just not our reality.
I've never seen people more upset over a set's price than now. Yeah, I'd say they got this one wrong. Beautiful set though.
0:33 some strange flickering :)
The old fishing store will go great with this set!
Yes yes yes!!!!! I've been waiting for this one ever since I heard about it!!! Looks beautiful, can't wait to add it to my collection.
Ok. That set is going onto my "must buy" list for sure.
This set looks incredible!
i love it! definitely goin to buy this set for sure! :D
So clean.
These minifigure scale things are so neat
Really nice display set - definitely on my list of purchases next time they do double VIP points.
300$ it's not a fait price for this set... It's easy to say that when you got it for free..
But like TC says in the review, when he filmed this he didn't know the price and estimated 250-300. With the electric elements 250 is fair, and it likely went up to 300 with the August price increases.
@@Gzilla313 You cannot increase price of something which is not even released..
@@MrMatejulc they definitely could have designed it with a 250 budget and raised the price 20% to match the company wide price increases before release
@@Gzilla313 ya, 250 would be good, but this set just don't look at 300!!! You put another 100 and can get the Castle with 4k pieces and 20 minifigures
@@adrianprepelita8683 or for around the same money, you can get the Ninjago City Gardens....
This will deff be my first big lego set
I believe that the legs of the sailor girl were previously from another Lego Ideas set, Dinosaur Fossils.
I love your reviews!
A beautiful lighthouse. I was wondering what exactly is motorized in this set? Thanks for showing it from the start!
