    never hit a seal with a hammer folks, always put your seal in by hand until it sticks then tap it in with a flat piece of metal or wood.

      also lube the outside and inside edge with grease so it doesn't fold or crimp.

    A very user-friendly video, shows people that this type of work is within their ability. I do wish you would use a torque wrench to tighten the critical fasteners as that is too important to leave to guessing

    Will this seal pop a check engine light or possibly leak trans fluid cause I replaced my transmission and there's a transfluid(all but a drip) on the back rear where the transmission meets the motor..?

    My 1995 Honda Accord EX, Automatic is a little different than your manual transmission.
    1) I have no half-shaft on the driver-side. The CV axle is long enough to go all the way into the transmission.
    2,) I have a transmission dipstick that you you pour oil in from the top like engine oil.

    Great video. I had new CV axles put on my same car that I bought from Advanced Auto, they were Tough One brand. The main shaft is already covered in rust. I wonder why the old CV axles you're taking off have no rust. They look painted black or something?

    That's for the much needed info! There's no way I can do this myself. I just bought a 2000 Honda Passport that needs this done. My son wants me to take it to ha mechanic, I'm thinking to a Honda dealer. Either way, is the draining of the ATF routine for this job? Will they do it?

    The black 17mm socket in the video is a Stanley set from Walmart.

    Does the car have to be in neutral or can it be in gear when putting in the replacement cv axle or does it not matter ?

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't have to be a neutral. But having it in a neutral will make it easier to turn and shimmy the axle in and out.

    Do you have any suggestions of how to separate the driver side driveshaft axel from the intermediate shaft? I have spent countless hours prying at it with a pry bar and knocking it with a rubber mallet both on and off the car with no luck.

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can take a lot of patience and sometimes if you don't know a few tricks of the trade it may take an entire day. I'm going to save you from all of that. Get some thin rope, wrap it around the front of the drive axle hub right before it goes into the intermittent shaft. Pull the rope back out from under the wheel well. Take a 5 - 10 lb dumbbell and tie it on the other end then swing your arm backwards with the dumbbell just like you would do if you were working out your tricep muscle. Do it quickly and it'll jolt the drive axle out. If it's really stuck spray some PB blaster inside the drive axle and give it another shot. Make sure you don't get springy rope, a cast net rope works good. Hope this helps!

      @@Nthefastlane Thanks for the insight! Before I could attempt your method, I ended up using a 2x4 wedged in the gap between the CV joint and intermediate shaft. A couple good wacks with a 2lb mini sledge on the opposite end of the 2x4 while rotating the axel and it seperated in a few minutes!

    What happens if you put driver Axle on passenger side? If you get them mixed up?

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can't mix them up. One axle goes into a intermittent shaft which has a different spline diameter than the other axle.

    Thanks for the video. Two questions if you still check the comments :
    1) Do I need to remove the brake assembly (calipers, rotors...) if I just want to replace the axle seals only (not the axles) ?
    2) If my axles aren't in perfect shape (there's a slight movement up and down when you push on them from below, but they don't make the common CV joint clicking noise), would that affect the new axle seals (cause them to start leaking again) ?
    Thanks.

    Hi man, I am Jorge from Brazil, well about fill up transmission fluid by the bolt that you showed us but my question is, can we fill up by the dipstick? Is it the same process? I hope you understand my question. Thank you.

      You're right. But the manual transmission doesn't have a tranny dipstick. Atleast my 95 doesn't.

  • @meathead585
    @meathead585 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Never let a brake caliper hang, as in video, stretching it's brake hose. Find a way to wire it up above to something while working on things.
    Use the correct tool for any job. A socket extension is easily ruined when using it as a chisel.

    I know it wasn't necessary but some times they can fall out while removing the axle and break when hitting the ground so I just take them out.Thanks "youmaster21"

    Is it safe sitting with your legs under the chassis like that?!

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I had a jack and two jack stands supporting the vehicle. Also a piece of wood on the back tire and the e-brake up. In this case yes. If it was just the Jack supporting it,no e-brake or wood, No.

    You should tap in the seal with a socket.
