    I am very impressed with the oven cleaner; great find! It's actually a strong BASE and not acid. Those oven cleaners are solutions of sodium hydroxide and are actually pretty safe. Much safer in the long run than all of the degreasers!

    mineral spirits with a round cleaning brush for the auto store works like brake cleaner only it doesn't evaporate nearly as fast. it worked well on the top layer of gunk inside the bell housing, and 90+% on the outside grime is gone. oven cleaner does work really well. if you don't like the look of the aluminum afterward hit ti with some high heat cast aluminum paint.

    I have some constructive criticism- I appreciate people contributing to public knowledge but there's a lot of unhelpful stuff here.
    Big thing is don't put the main shaft down like that. Space it up off the ground with some boards or bunch of cardboard at least so you don't cause damage.
    Those cleaners don't really work as you found out so it's not helpful to suggest them. You got it clean by plain scrubbing it out which is what pretty much anyone will do by default.
    Easiest most effective way to get these clean is with a power washer. It will take thick layers of crud right off with minimal effort. It's a good investment for cleaning engines and parts and has many other household uses. It's also easier on the environment and your health as you don't use any cleaning products. You're not putting scratches into the trans with wire brushes etc.
    You did a good job of showing how to plug up the axle holes. You have a careful approach, pretty good pacing and explanation but I would re-do the video using a pressure washer.

      If the bag is in there between the throwout bearing and the pressure plate it's going to start melting and smoking if you drive it. I wouldn't want any plastic residue on my clutch. If the bag isn't between the throwout bearing in the pressure plate you might be able to take off the transmission dust shield underneath and sneak the bag out. There's not much clearance between the flywheel teeth and the transmission housing. Another solution might be to pull the "dust boot" off the clutch fork and put some long needle nose pliers in there to pull the bag out.

    Logically speaking. No matter how hard you try to keep any kind of sealant material from going into your engine or transmission, it will still make its way inside! When you bolt any 2 pieces and sandwich them together, the sealant material gets squeezed in and out of both sides. I don’t know where the hell these DIYs or certified mechanics get the idea that if any gasket material gets into your engine or transmission, it’s gonna 😱“blow up!”😱 Any soft debris inside gets burned up or ground to hell into tiny dust. Unless it’s a piece of metal, then that’s a different story. That’s why the Engine Oil Filter and the Transmission Filter Exists, to filter out any debris. *Your engine will not explode because of pieces of RTV*

    I have a d16z6 manual trans without grinds but the input shaft has play. Any tips?

    • @2xMUCHxBASS
      @2xMUCHxBASS 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably needs a new main shaft bearing(input shaft bearing). There are tutorials on forums but open trans like he does, pull main shaft and its the bearing in the case, on a b series anyway.

    Gasoline will cut through that grease very quickly and not leave oily residue.

    @nthefastlane I have a 97 honda del sol Vtec with 86k miles. It has the b16a2 engine. Some times when I'm at a stop/red light i have trouble getting it into 1st. None of the other gears are a problem except for 1st & reverse, but mainly it's 1st that's the issue - could be because I just notice 1st more since I use it more often than reverse. The clutch grabs high and seems fine and has fluid in the reservoir, however it is a tad bit dirty but nothing crazy I guess. I just recently changed the transmission fluid with honda mtf about 1k miles ago but still notice this problem. Any ideas what this could be? Its kind of been a pain in the butt because some times I'll get honked at if I'm not moving right away when the light turns green trying to get it into first. I also notice that 1st and 2nd don't seem to glide into gear as easily as 3rd, 4th, and 5th. 2nd,3rd,4th, and 5th always go into gear but it just seems that 1st and 2nd some times seem like they need a bit more effort and don't pop into gear as smoothly. This is not my main issue but I figured I'd give as much info as possible. The trans makes no strange noises and aside from 1st occasionally not going into gear it works fine. Any ideas on what could be the issue?
