If Respawn had waited a few months to release Titanfall 2, it quite possibly would have boomed. Being released between BF and CoD absolutely killed it, which is a huge shame. The campaign is one of my favorite in any FPS game, and the multiplayer is unbelievably fun.

      Bro... This was the point
I still remember, they launched Titanfall 2 on the same month of BF1.
The game that everyone was waiting and hoping to be the comeback of fun FPS (BF1), since Activision was on the crapy InfiniteWar "Halo style". This, in my opinion was the reason Titanfall 2 failed... And almost nobody remembers it.

Brutal legend had so much potential, it could’ve easily made a second game that was a prequel to the first game featuring Jack Black’s character’s dad.

Brutal Legend feel like it failed more because of the split in it's gameplay mechanics. Like the single player should have been completely a action platformer and the multiplayer could have been a RTS. Sadly the game throws a curveball that missed people could not hit with the RTS just almost randomly being in the single player gameplay. More people remember and see the game for the action platforming and metal. The nostalgia glasses hide the RTS part. It's the mechanic that keeps me away from playing it.
If they did create a sequel/prequel they need to separate the two. RTS fans would have something and the majority casual audience will get a fun mature metal action platformer.

I worked at EB Games during the 2003 holiday season and I can tell you pretty confidently why Beyond Good and Evil did so poorly: it launched *THE DAY AFTER SANDS OF TIME*.
Two amazing games came out at once: one that everyone had heard of, because of a huge amount of marketing and hype, and one that no one had heard of.
Worth noting that *both* games were published by Ubisoft, so Ubisoft decided to put its best game of the year (IMHO) up against its biggest game of the year, dooming it to obscurity.
    I’m still mad.

I've always been curious as to what effect Sony paying for about three months PS2 exclusivity on both of those games in Europe/UK/AU had. It caused the GameCube and Xbox versions to miss out on potential sales at Christmas, so I can't imagine it helped with overall units sold. Probably wouldn't have been enough for BG&E to see the success it deserved, but still.

Mercenaries is one of my favorite games of all time. I feel lucky that I played it when I was younger so everything about the game blew my mind. The air strikes and factions were amazing, as well as the card values attached to the people you had to take out. Also it was the first game I ever played that had the surprising, "Oh my god there's a whole other half of the map!" feeling that I've only gotten since in Red Dead when Mexico becomes available to travel to. So glad to see it and I'm holding out the tiniest amount of hope that we'll get a remaster or a new game in the series.

I never played it (Playstation guy) but I watched Jackfrags go through it and it looked really fun. Agreed super repetitive, but it had promise. Thinking aloud, the sequel could have riffed on the theme of it (repairing a broken/corrupt system) and taken that into another kingdom, since that Rome storyline was pretty complete when the game was done. And just doing part 2 of screwed up Rome might have been even more repetitive. Or, would have been interesting if they flipped it and the Gauls (believe they were) that you fought in the first game, you now controlled while you replayed the same story from that POV.

Really, read to yourself. How can you say being the game that short so it avoids you from having to keep playing it's repetitive gameplay is a positive? That exactly shows how badly it fails as a game.
"great combat"? Do yourself a favor a play some hack&slash. Anything you can find. Even the mediocre Golden Axe Beast Rider, one of the worst I can think of, is a masterpiece compared to Ryse.

It was so good, but unfortunately lots of old-fashioned reviewers at the time slammed it for not having a story solo mode, nowadays that's completely normal for a game such as this. Those early reviews plus the shadowrun community not liking that it had no rpg elements made sure the game didn't succeed, but the actual gameplay was fantastic

Before I even watch the video I want to throw my hat in.
A game that I played and a small very, very dedicated amount of people played was a musical game called fuser. It was a solid concept and actually taught people about digital music making in the lightest sense but the things that people were able to create for the span of about 2 to 3 years without any game support before the online functionality shutdown was amazing and there were little underground America's got talent style competitions teams were made that would compete against each other but sadly the game didn't see really great numbers in any sense. To this day you can even find people adding content to the game after opening up the files similar to how people in guitar hero add content. Unfortunately the game was pulled from all marketplaces and you can't even buy it anymore unless you somehow manage to find a physical copy which wasn't well circulated.
The main problem seem to be related to marketing advertising and it releasing during the dark ages.

As much as I like diamond-in-the-rough stories, So many people have hyped up Kingdoms of Amalur over the years and after playing it, I just don't get it. What is there to this game that make people so attached ? I want to like but, well... it's just bland to me, on every single aspect.
The world is boring typical fantasy fae, winter court vs summer court, it's nothing special and nothing else is developed. Not helped by some very inconsistent voice acting quality. The level and world design is probably the worst aspect of the game, it feels like a single player MMO in all the bad ways. The combat is reasonably dynamic and responsive, but not very deep and the enemy variety is abysmal, so it gets very repetitive very quickly. The graphics are your typical cartoony fantasy that you've seen billions of times since WoW and Fable.
This game came out after Dark Souls and Skyrim, it was already years behind when it came out. Someone please make it make sense...

I think Splinter Cell sort of lost it's way. For me the game series went downhill after the (absolutely incredible) Chaos Theory which had all the plot/shenanigans/political intrigue I've come to expect and love from the series established from the first game, and built up over Pandora Tomorrow to Chaos Theory - to some sort of gritty detective noir game from Double Agent onwards (can't remember if Double Agent or Conviction came first, pretty sure it was Double Agent) and the whole story of his daughter been killed/not killed, Third Echelon being corrupted (because of course it would be in a horribly predictable story beat) and then Fourth Echelon etc, etc.
It kinda seems backwards when I think about it, but when the game became more about Sam Fisher's story and life and less about political machinations of the elite, that's when to me it stopped being Splinter Cell.

From what I've watched about Twisted Metal 2012 is that it boiled down to a few things. It having the infamous online code that prevented people who bought a used copy from playing the online unless they purchase access, the janky racing segments(it was literally something that they kept in so that the guy who made it didn't get his feelings hurt), certain vehicles being needed to fight the bosses, and the biggest one of all being that you were limited to 3 characters to a campaign instead of a bunch of individual drivers with there motives with seeing how the wish they make gets twisted like all the other games. The one big thing it had was the maps and how they could be cut down for more action to have at anytime as well as the vehicles(but again no unique drivers for each with it being one of 4 factions).

@@infernaldaedra , I wouldn't go that far since there are enough entries in the RE and SH franchises that could contend with The Evil Within. However, I do agree that there's a whole lot of things I'd say I personally prefer with TEW games over RE and SH. For one, if we ever get a third entry, I'd love to see a full-blown return to the grindhouse vibe of the first game while retaining a lot of the mechanical improvements from 2. And I really dig the hybrid between the psychological and pseudo-supernatural elements in the two games. And there's even an observable connection with how RE4 influenced TEW and how a lot of things from TEW ended up being integrated in RE4make. Sadly, it seems like TEW came out before people were, once more, interested in tackling survival horror, again. If I recall, it was still back in the era when walking-simulator-type horror was the big thing.

Couple of missing ones for me:
Prototype - I still havent played the second one even though I own it. I replayed the first one recently, but near the end, my save corrupted and I lost my progress of the entire game and that sort of killed my inertia to play the second one (which apparently does carry over your save file).
Resistance - I dont think these flopped, but Insomniac just decided to put them on infinite hiatus. R3 was a bit of a let down and they really kinda messed up with the story, but I still loved the world/lore they created, and the online Coop was the best I've ever played and one of my favorite FPSs.
Demons Souls - Didnt die since they went on to create a massively successful franchise and genre, but I would have loved to have seen a Demon Souls 2 and more lore for that specific world.
Gauntlet: Dark Legacy - still hoping for a remaster or some sequel that follows this path. Couple of recent Gauntlet games were just top down stuff (more akin to the original), but I loved the OTS gameplay for Dark Legacy.
    Honorable Mention:
Anthem - It's not that it didnt deserve its poor sales and criticism, but it didnt deserve for Bioware to simply give up. It's still one of my favorite games and gave me an enjoyment that no other game has replicated. The flying and that gorgeous world are unmatched. I enjoyed the combat and there was a lot of lore even if the story itself was poor. It was a world that deserved to have been respected by EA and Bioware management. I still circle back and play it from time to time with a new Pilot. If they or anyone ever attempts this game again, instead of being a looter though, it should be similar to Armored Core, where you take on missions, get money, and buy and upgrade your Javelins that way and have a system to upgrade those parts further so that theres still something to chase after purchase. but i digress.

Was thinking about Mercenaries the other day. The first one was so good, loved the playing cards format for hunting down the High value targets and all the weaponry on it. Ryse Rome was a quality game, needs to be more ancient warrior style games!

Good list. I gave Brutal Legend a try. I was stuck early unable to control my buggy but I’ll try again…
Mercenaries was awesome. I loved the NK setting but most of all the faction and the “for a fistful of dollars” vibe mechanically implemented by accomplishing missions for 3 opposing sides. I have not seen anyone else do that, to this day!

Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time trying Brutal Legend again. Even if you learn to accept the wonky mechanics, the game just gets more disappointing the further you go.

I played world in flames and I liked it but it was not as good as playground of destruction. It was too glitchy. Also there weren't as many interesting missions and weapons. The map wasn't that big either. If I could I would go back and play the game again just bc it's been so long but i would rather play the first one instead.

Modnation Racers is really good example. It was a game (created by new grounds) that was a Mario Cart type game. I wouldn't call it a clone, because it changed a lot about the pure foundation and customization.
It is a fun and entertaining game that actually is really funny sometimes too.

GOD HAND is still to this day one my all time favourite games. The gameplay was incredible once you got used to the controls, you had countless combos, dozens of minigames that were genuinely funny, you could smack people on their butt hundreds of times as a combo finisher, dozens of special moves like ball buster, dragon kick (the enemy would be kicked outside of the earth), the music was dope, the enemies were funny, quirky and varied, the game didnt hold your hand (it was genuinely difficult, you had to git gud or you wouldnt advance), the story and characters were memorable as hell and hilarious. Overall just an unforgetable game that was incredibly fun to play. I truly wish they would make a remake or a sequel, i know if i was a multi millionaire thats one of the games id fund for certain 😂

Rogue Galaxy for the Ps2. I loved it but I wish it was made in to a series. It had unique take on Rpg leveling/Power-up. Using items to learn new abilities and increase stats. It had a decent story with memorable characters. You could fusion weapons to make them stronger or change them. Plus, It had little to no load loading screens. Most loading screens were hidden and if you seen them it was when landing or leaving a planet. Which for the Ps2 was a feat.

I think the issue with twisted metal is it came out during teen days of couch cooping here the fun was more in hanging out with your friends drinking Pepsi and eating pizza while just blasting each other in split screen coop.
However, we don’t really do that much anymore so it just doesn’t hold the same appeal
