Wheatley's betrayal in Portal 2 was pretty surprising. He spends the whole first half of the game trying to help you escape, only to turn on you when getting a taste of GLaDOS's power. He does, however, put GLaDOS in a potato battery, which is funny enough that I'd say it about evens out.
Well... fun? Yes. Surprising? Well the first thing Wheatley does at the very beginning of the game, when he finds out he's accidentally killed basically all of the humans in the Aperture lab, is to advise the player: "If anybody asks, it wasn't me." Let's just say that I wasn't totally on board with him as a good guy from the start...
Dutch’s betrayal in red dead 2 hurt my soul honestly. But it didn’t “suck” in the same way some of these on this list sucked, but when I think of video game betrayals that’s the biggest one that sticks out like a knife in my heart.

Kotor 1 - The Sith and Jedi betrayal: Revan learning that he/she was brainwashed by the Jedi, after Malak's betrayal which under normal circumstances would leave anyone feeling betrayed and not knowing who to trust. To me this was one of the most powerful plots ever made.
The betrayal at the end of Little Nightmares 2, when Six drops Mono into the chasm to save herself surprised me. When I got to that part, I actually said out loud "WHAT THE FUCK?"
I always thought she dropped you to save you from HER. I was honestly expecting her to eat you at the end of the game and I feel like that's the route the devs would have taken if betrayal was all they intended.
Henry in Mafia 2 really threw me for a loop. You spend forever working with him, especially since he was your main go to when you first join the family. Then you just watch him get hacked up by the Chinese and found out afterwards that Henry was an informant. Real slap in the face
The Count's betrayal in Plague Tale Requiem hit especially hard because the game made you feel somewhat safe by setting everything up for you to expect another, more cliche kind of a horror twist that didn't happen. When arriving at that beautiful seemingly idyllic island and learning about their celebrations and that pagan folk cult around the "child of the embers", I fully expected some Midsommar kind of nasty stuff going on and horrible things to happen at the ceremony (child sacrifices or something). But no, you sneak into that ceremony and it's actually kinda nice and entirely harmless, the whole cult is just as benevolent and welcoming as it was made to appear from the start (well, except that it is a lot of BS and misinterpreting what actually happened in the past and the countess turns out to be a completely delusional lunatic,, but the cult stuff itself isn't evil and the countess actually means well). After going through this, you expect the count and the countess to be allies at least for now (I mean, there still was the issue of Amicia basically being a wanted killer who had slaughtered a few dozen of the count's men in another city, so I was still expecting this to eventually go sideways when the Count would finally find out who she is, but I wasn't prepared for the kind of scheme he had actually going on).
I had an immediate bad feeling about the count, and I just never let go. So when he did ultimately betray you, it wasn't too surprising to me, but it was still nice to see the hints throughout leading to the betrayal
Back in the day playing Tony Hawk's Underground, I hated Eric Sparrow for stealing your tape and making it look like he was the one who did the roof gap in Hawaii. Man did I love the alternate ending when you got the tape back.
You forgot about the ghost's betrayal at the end of the game that resurrected you since the first title, just to drop you off once you reached outside Sauron's fortress.

Shepard's "betrayal" on current Modern Warfare 2 is so soft. Back in the day they had some guts in Call of Duty games - the Shepard that shot us to the chest is in the same game as the mission "No Russians". Gotta miss those days.
You missed the real betrayal in Dying Light 2. Following that mission, the discovery that the guy who's been helping you along since your arrival, is not only the murderer you're looking for, but is also working for the main bad guy you're after...that's way more of a betrayal than what is really just confused survivors.
Played Bioshock like 10 years ago, that plot twist still rents free inside my head mainly because i didn't see it coming because all the clues are so subtle people hardly notice it, it was such a great gaming experience..

You should have included Skizzo's betrayal of Deacon St. John! You know in your heart he's a bad guy, but just before he betrays you he makes you think there might just be a chance he'll become a decent character!
What he did to everyone hurt but what he did to Iron Mike, that hurt even more! Like fr, that man put faith in you that you could become a better person than you had been and Mike paid the same to Deek and for that you killed him! How is Pavel Morozov from Metro Last Light not in this list? It literally devastated me after all he and I had been through to survive. The emotions I ran through as I chose to let him live, shooting my gun at the sky in frustration.
I love these videos and especially love Falcon, BUT it saddens me to think that Falcon might not have actually played A Plague Tale: Requiem considering how bad he butchered Amicia’s name. 😢
I have thought for a while Falcon doesn't actually play a lot of these games, and is just an employee to read scripts. My man pronounced Tenchu as "Tenku" for one example.
He probably reads a script or just watch the parts he needs to . I mean all the games he talks about probably impossible for him to play all of them especially if he's got lots of other stuff going on. I wouldn't blame him for not playing games he doesn't really enjoy noone wants to do that. He does mention ones he does play in some videos if he's talking about a part it had a problem with a hard part or something like that.
Worst betrayal to me was in Nier by Popola and Devola. They literally help direct you throughout the entire game, and have some of the most chill atmospheres when interacting with them, sit listening to them sing or whatever else, and then you get to the Shadow Lord's castle and... Well you're met with a boss fight with them. It really set the tone for that entire ending segment just hammering in emotional moments, and the betrayal of those 2 started it off. If any genuinely fit that title and "broke me", it'd be them.

There's a somewhat obvious twist in the canon version of the game, and then there's a twist made especially for the AU game, Off the Record, which replaces new character Chuck with DR1 protagonist Frank

Man Bioshock is so good. I hope part 4 is amazing and comes soon. I’ve loved every entry. I’ll never forget the first one though. That story is so good and that twist.
Alone is my favorite mission in MW2. I absolutely adore stealth gameplay so it’s obviously right up my alley. But having to sneak around collecting household resources to make weapons while avoiding them while they do their rounds searching for you is so intense and awesome
Out of the games I've played, the betrayal that definitely stayed with me was Matt Engarde from Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Justice for All. I had my suspicions about the guy, but at the same time I was like "oh but he's my client, there's no way the game will do something as ballsy as making him the bad guy!" And then it's revealed he was actually the killer the entire time and I just let out a big "WHAT?!" at the epic reveal. Kinda sad I missed out on the OG MW2, bc I bet Shepherd's betrayal would've destroyed me if I played it when it came out. Amazing video!! Looking back it's an obvious betrayal coming but on my first playthrough of Persona 5, I was broke by Akechi betraying the group. Once he joined the party he quickly became my favorite P5 character. Thankfully Persona 5 Royal exists to play as the true Akechi.
for BioShock's final boss i have zero complaints. not every final, or any other boss, needs to be challenging or stress-inducing. sometimes a final boss will serve the story the game is telling and the ending will fit perfectly to serve both as karma to the antagonist and emotional sendoff for the protagonist, which BioShock does beautifully. as for Assassin's Creed 3's Connor he's far from boring. not every protagonist needs to be cool, collected, funny, charming etc. i love Connor for his naiveté, charm, innocence, sense of justice and kindness. he stands out from the rest of the AC protagonists for all the right reasons.
Fantastic watch as usual- I always enjoy your videos Falcon, keep up the good work yourself!! : ) Honestly I’m well and surprised that Red Dead Redemption II didn’t make the cut here, at least at number 10 that is. Like, when I think of games with a heartbreaking betrayal, RDR2 is the first thing that comes to mind so it is! I mean, after a point I suppose even without spoilers one could likely figure on who the traitor might be, and [spoilers!] Micah is never truly likeable- he ranges from obnoxious at best to despicable at times. But the depths of the betrayal and Dutch’s role once things start to unravel, that is, that Dutch ends up being in some ways an even bigger betrayer than Micah when the shit hits the fan and it all really starts coming apart, combined with the serious consequences of Micah’s betrayal and the gut wrenching outcome make it one for the books for sure. Certainly no wonder that the game is so well known and loved for its powerful story, proper good one so it is, really profound and hard hitting.
I agree with most of this, except for your analysis of Snake in Number 6. Snake has learned to rely on his support team, so he's not remotely thinking that Miller might be fake. Miller's been vouched for by Campbell, after all.
About #10: Two problems. 1: The liquid isn't what's flammable, it's the fumes that gasoline give off that are highly flammable. 2: His cigar wouldn't have lit it, otherwise it would've lit it when he walked up.
Always been kind of surprised this many people were caught offguard with Bioshock. The dude commanded you around the entire time and gave you little good reason to trust him. I suspected pretty early on he wasn't exactly trustworthy.
and the twist was basically a copy of the twist in System Shock 2, the game that inspired Bioshock. But not as many people played System Shock 2 since it was a PC only game, so many Bioshock players are not aware of the twist being derivative and unoriginal.

Yoshimo from Baldur's Gate 2. A very capable thief and one of the first one's that joins your group. That one hurt since he had no choice. Ever since that betrayal I had trust issues with companion NPCs in all games that I play.
Bro Bode was such a great villain and really picked up the story for Survivor in my opinion. Rayvis and Degan were honestly really mid for the first three quarters of the game and Bode was so well executed, honestly felt like a better version of what Second Sister was trying to be thematically

Another big clue for the Metal Gear twist is that there's a whole infuriating section before this where maybe some of us tried multiple times to get Miller on the Comm Link and he was just unreachable. Like some snarky middle finger to the player.....
Yes, and so many unblockable follow-ups to combos you thought were over. He only glows red for a half second before attacking and your dodge window is super brief, if you even see you're supposed to dodge at all. I sailed through Vader. Bode almost made me break my TV.
Angels betrayal in Borderlands 2 is what I thought of immediately. All of the first game, she was just a navigating voice in your head, so it was a return to form in BL2. But then she turns against you, it had me. She helps you again later, but still.

I think you should've specified which games were going to be spoiled. Just saying, "Oh hey, incoming spoilers." Doesn't really mean much. Could've been for like Gotham Knights or something I didn't give a crap about... I would've preferred not getting spoilers for those games (even though I'll probably never play FF16)... but I had no idea which games were about to be spoiled.
Commander Shepard betrayal of Wrex and Mordin in ME3 easily tops this list. Quite literally two of the most important events in the last game if you fail to turn on them that could change the outcome of the game. Not only that but it's heartbreaking (at least Mordin, Wrex not so much so).
that game is the reason you don't connect a game with a TV serie. game plays and looks great even in 2023, but the tv show got cancelled or something so no sequel for us.

I didn’t even know it had a tv series till recently and I haven’t been able to play the game yet but am still interested to even with the bad reviews I’ve heard of it. The thing I’ve mainly heard to why it tanked is that it tried to do too much and didn’t follow itself/ the science properly apparently 🤷🏽♀️

Man Bioshock is so good. I hope part 4 is amazing and comes soon. I’ve loved every entry. I’ll never forget the first one though. That story is so good and that twist.
Alone is my favorite mission in MW2. I absolutely adore stealth gameplay so it’s obviously right up my alley. But having to sneak around collecting household resources to make weapons while avoiding them while they do their rounds searching for you is so intense and awesome

Bode betraying you was kind of predictable, I kinda seen it coming from the beginning. The shocking part is that he was a Jedi, that was a good twist.

Out of the games I've played, the betrayal that definitely stayed with me was Matt Engarde from Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Justice for All. I had my suspicions about the guy, but at the same time I was like "oh but he's my client, there's no way the game will do something as ballsy as making him the bad guy!" And then it's revealed he was actually the killer the entire time and I just let out a big "WHAT?!" at the epic reveal.
Kinda sad I missed out on the OG MW2, bc I bet Shepherd's betrayal would've destroyed me if I played it when it came out.

Chance’s betrayal in syphon filter really got me as a kid. Maybe it was obvious to some, but I was young when I played it and I didn’t see that shit coming at all.

So many of them, Lance from Vice city, Mafia and Mafia 3, Michael popping up to clap Trevor, Lucy from AC and worst of all your online friends when they realize the game has friendly fire.
Looking back it's an obvious betrayal coming but on my first playthrough of Persona 5, I was broke by Akechi betraying the group. Once he joined the party he quickly became my favorite P5 character. Thankfully Persona 5 Royal exists to play as the true Akechi.

for BioShock's final boss i have zero complaints. not every final, or any other boss, needs to be challenging or stress-inducing. sometimes a final boss will serve the story the game is telling and the ending will fit perfectly to serve both as karma to the antagonist and emotional sendoff for the protagonist, which BioShock does beautifully.
as for Assassin's Creed 3's Connor he's far from boring. not every protagonist needs to be cool, collected, funny, charming etc. i love Connor for his naiveté, charm, innocence, sense of justice and kindness. he stands out from the rest of the AC protagonists for all the right reasons.
I felt the same with Connor, like he’s not my favourite but I love the native representation, if a little problematic.

Honestly I’m well and surprised that Red Dead Redemption II didn’t make the cut here, at least at number 10 that is. Like, when I think of games with a heartbreaking betrayal, RDR2 is the first thing that comes to mind so it is!
I mean, after a point I suppose even without spoilers one could likely figure on who the traitor might be, and [spoilers!] Micah is never truly likeable- he ranges from obnoxious at best to despicable at times. But the depths of the betrayal and Dutch’s role once things start to unravel, that is, that Dutch ends up being in some ways an even bigger betrayer than Micah when the shit hits the fan and it all really starts coming apart, combined with the serious consequences of Micah’s betrayal and the gut wrenching outcome make it one for the books for sure. Certainly no wonder that the game is so well known and loved for its powerful story, proper good one so it is, really profound and hard hitting.
I agree with most of this, except for your analysis of Snake in Number 6. Snake has learned to rely on his support team, so he's not remotely thinking that Miller might be fake. Miller's been vouched for by Campbell, after all.
About #10: Two problems. 1: The liquid isn't what's flammable, it's the fumes that gasoline give off that are highly flammable. 2: His cigar wouldn't have lit it, otherwise it would've lit it when he walked up.
Always been kind of surprised this many people were caught offguard with Bioshock. The dude commanded you around the entire time and gave you little good reason to trust him. I suspected pretty early on he wasn't exactly trustworthy.
and the twist was basically a copy of the twist in System Shock 2, the game that inspired Bioshock. But not as many people played System Shock 2 since it was a PC only game, so many Bioshock players are not aware of the twist being derivative and unoriginal.

@@davidstewart673 i completely disagree. They changed everything in bioshock infinite, mechanics, graphics, story etc and i found it unnecessary, jarring and confusing, especially the ending. To me, Infinite didn't fit into what the first 2 masterpieces created

Yoshimo from Baldur's Gate 2. A very capable thief and one of the first one's that joins your group. That one hurt since he had no choice. Ever since that betrayal I had trust issues with companion NPCs in all games that I play.
Bro Bode was such a great villain and really picked up the story for Survivor in my opinion. Rayvis and Degan were honestly really mid for the first three quarters of the game and Bode was so well executed, honestly felt like a better version of what Second Sister was trying to be thematically

Another big clue for the Metal Gear twist is that there's a whole infuriating section before this where maybe some of us tried multiple times to get Miller on the Comm Link and he was just unreachable. Like some snarky middle finger to the player.....
Vader was hard but the last boss I think was waaay harder, had so much trouble dodging those air blade things he shoots at you in phase 3.
Yes, and so many unblockable follow-ups to combos you thought were over. He only glows red for a half second before attacking and your dodge window is super brief, if you even see you're supposed to dodge at all.
I sailed through Vader. Bode almost made me break my TV.
Angels betrayal in Borderlands 2 is what I thought of immediately. All of the first game, she was just a navigating voice in your head, so it was a return to form in BL2. But then she turns against you, it had me. She helps you again later, but still.
Doesn’t she actually end up helping you though? It’s been so long since I played it but I thought she actually betrayed her “father” who was Handsome Jack.

I think you should've specified which games were going to be spoiled. Just saying, "Oh hey, incoming spoilers." Doesn't really mean much. Could've been for like Gotham Knights or something I didn't give a crap about... I would've preferred not getting spoilers for those games (even though I'll probably never play FF16)... but I had no idea which games were about to be spoiled.
Commander Shepard betrayal of Wrex and Mordin in ME3 easily tops this list. Quite literally two of the most important events in the last game if you fail to turn on them that could change the outcome of the game. Not only that but it's heartbreaking (at least Mordin, Wrex not so much so).
Quantum Break had a betrayal if I remember correctly. Speaking of which, what ever happened to that game?! I thought it was awesome!
that game is the reason you don't connect a game with a TV serie. game plays and looks great even in 2023, but the tv show got cancelled or something so no sequel for us.
@@Ali-Sensei I heard from another video that the tv series did great and the game tanked, so I guess it’s dependent on your views and which you liked more. I didn’t even know it had a tv series till recently and I haven’t been able to play the game yet but am still interested to even with the bad reviews I’ve heard of it. The thing I’ve mainly heard to why it tanked is that it tried to do too much and didn’t follow itself/ the science properly apparently 🤷🏽♀️
