In the Eighties, as a teenager, I ignored everything that smelled like Pop. I was more into Hard Rock, Blues Rock etc. And now, in my fifties, I discover what a fabulous, creative, influential band Talk Talk was. Wish I could have seen them live. Can't stop listening to "Life's what you make it" but especially to "Spirit of Eden". What a masterpiece!
Its always cool to be able to reassess what you may have previously not had a taste for. That seems like growth to me. We come to things in our own time. I certainly wouldn't judge someone based on what they did or didn't like as a teenager.
Hollis was a visionary artist, who flatly refused to play the record company game. After the massive success of TT's two previous albums, he put out the jazz, rock fusion masterpieces Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock. It showed extraordinary courage, but proof for future artists that came after Talk Talk to follow the muse wherever that led and not to cop out for commercial reasons and lose integrity. Ultimately integrity is all a true artist has in life. R.I.P. Mark you inspired so many of us to take chances.
Yes, to add to that, he gave up performing music and concentrated on being a father after that. Mainly because he didn't want to compromise their upbringing by focusing on touring. I have so much respect for him as an artist and a person.

I appreciate them now here in 2023, I'm truly sorry Mark that I've left it so late, and now you have moved cosmic address, but your musical legacy however remains with us here in sound and moving pictures. Ich habe Talk Talk es muss 1985 gewesen sein, in einer kleinen Halle live gesehen. Kannte die Gruppe gar nicht. Aus Langeweile kauften wir eine Karte. Don't wish to rub it in, I got to see them three times, not that great, they were fricking awesome. The first time was the Genesis reunion gig at Milton Keynes, not so good, but by 1985 and 86, out of this world.
Thanks for this nice gift. It is always a honour and a pleasure to hear the memorable Mark Hollis' voice and to see his humilty on the stage. Simply one of the greatest singer and musician ever seen in Britain, who rest in peace already.

I can see where many artists just tire of having to do their catalog year, after year, after year. But there are three bands that I would say that doung so never grew old, and were fresh and rewarding every single time they went on stage. Talking Heads, Porcupine Tree, and of course, Talk Talk. Magnificent band. Utterly magnificent.
The only opportunity I ever had to see them was in 1984 when they played the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater in S. California. At the time I wasn't that familiar with their music and don't remember even being aware that they were playing there. Now, given what I know and how much I love this band, I would pay obscene amounts of money to see them. So sad that Mark is no longer with us. His music touches my soul like none other.
I saw them perform in, if memory serves me well, ‘83 or ‘84… and since then, they have been a soundtrack to my life. Love this band! R.I.P. Mark Hollis
The most underrated band of all times, period. Fantastic and still up to date timeless production in combination of unique voice of Mark Hollis which nobody can copy. RiP Mark, your music and your voice lives forever
They are not underrated... they were privileged to start the third wave of English pop-invasion to the world in the 1980s... in Sweden, we listened to them a lot.

From the moment I heard them In the 80s I was hooked. My favourite all time band.. They were so good live, This film is brilliant. Mark's haunting vocals, the complex rythymns and touching melodies. ❤❤❤. Never a band to live off their past glories. It's My lLfe still sends chivers down my spine. Thanks for sharing
Without a doubt, the single greatest criminally underrated band in history. They were more than a band, they were a soundtrack for life. They didn't just play music, they provided an experience. After you watch this, watch Talk Talk: Live at Montreux 1986. If you were fortunate enough to have been there, God really has blessed you.
I grew up with Talk Talk in the 80s. 'Mark Hollis' who could mistake that voice, must have been a great loss to his band mates when he passed, but i'm sure he's up there in musical heaven jamming with the best of them.R.I.P Mark Hollis.🙏
I recorded this on VHS when it was on t.v many years ago. Fortunately a friend converted it to DVD for me, so I’ve seen it a few times, but awesome that it’s now been uploaded for everyone to watch. I’m 57 now, I only really regret not seeing two bands in my time, Talk Talk are one of them. Mark Hollis was undoubtedly not only a vocal genius but a fantastic performer.
i was 15 that time, and God Thanks TALK TALK had been invented, with my young age i had figured that listening them on my SONY SPORT/ VOL 10 side A side B, the exceptional time i was living , almost 40 years passed and i discover this live.
What a sensitive, and sensual, singer Mark David Hollis was! For the last time performing in his home town, and he probably knew. His closest loved ones must have been there, and who knows even Caroline and Renée, somewhere in that ecstatic crowd. Awesome. Thank you very much for "sharing this film with the world" and with coming generations, indeed!
I was there. It was THE best concert I'd been to....and it remains so to this day! Absolute perfection. Thanks for uploading, and bringing back the brilliance of the music and Mark's vocals.
I was there as well ,May 8th 1986 ,37 years ago and still one of the best live acts I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot , Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Paul Rodgers and Phil Lynott to name a few.
The one band I followed before they even made it. I can still hear them singing Talk Talk in 1981 at the same venue. They simply captured my musical and emotional senses.
Brilliant , see them support Duran Duran Hammersmith London about 1981-82 I was only 17-18 now approaching 60 years of age this year they still sound fantastic RIP mark you was fantastic sadly missed mate but your music lives on 👏👏👏👏👏
Saw them at Oxford Apollo same tour. Then again at Leicester Uni ‘84. Supreme. I too hit 60 in 2024 and I find them as relevant today as I did back then...
Talk Talk were not in my listening radar when they started, but when Gary Davis played a track from Spirit of Eden on Radio 1 whilst I was at work, (my first job after college), I was mesmerised. Went and bought the album. Spirit of Eden, Laughing Stock and Mark's solo album are three masterpieces that I never tire of listening to. I've since completed my back catalogue of their albums and have a dvd of Live at Montreaux, so I've caught up! It's such a shame that Mark died so young. I know he had departed from the music business, but he may have come back. That we will never know. I've also purchased some solo Tim Friese Green albums, which are interesting.
unbelievable...how I miss this...how I miss a such great band and music. It belongs to a great generation os 80's where you can find great artists and real music players. Talk Talk, Mark Hollis, were part of my youth, my playlist songs and still are. My parties at the attic...they still are amazing, because their sound and music will stay with us while we can hear them. thank you Mark for so much. you were a genius. And we are simply lucky to listen, dance and profit such a great sounds from TT band. Cheers to all fans, from Porto, Portugal! Obrigado!
If Talk Talk doesn't deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE DOES !!!!! THEY WERE BETTER THAN MOST IF NOT ALL THE PEOPLE THAT ARE!
I was a wee 16-year-old kiddo in '86 and hadn't even heard of them yet. It wouldn't be for another year or two that I would learn of this amazing band. I could listen to them all day long. I'm so grateful to have their music to listen to.
You really missed something.... How was it possible??? My life was full of them and am still in love with Mark, much more than with 16 those days...🥰 The most beautiful soul love of my life
I was lucky enough to see them on this tour in 1986 at Redcar Coatham Bowl, of all places. To this day, the greatest gig I ever went to. They were just very special!

RIP Mark Hollis, gone but never ever forgotten. LEGEND!
They were miles ahead of the competition back then and the material still holds up unlike most of the dross that filled the charts in 86.
Never ever have I been so gutted in not seeing a band live , they were incredible R.I.P Mark ❤️
SAME
I only lived up the road in Shepherds Bush so could easily have gone but didn't, also gutted. Then again I think I'd appreciate it more now.
Don't wish to rub it in, I got to see them three times, not that great, they were fricking awesome. The first time was the Genesis reunion gig at Milton Keynes, not so good, but by 1985 and 86, out of this world.
Talk talk and the smiths😢
Всё заканчивается 😢. Уходят люди, молодость, таланты. Марк останется на этих кадрах таким талантливым и молодым.
Thanks for this nice gift. It is always a honour and a pleasure to hear the memorable Mark Hollis' voice and to see his humilty on the stage. Simply one of the greatest singer and musician ever seen in Britain, who rest in peace already.
Absolutely a rare gem! Favorite live last gig was so special! Love & miss Mark so still always will!........🙏rip Mark u did music the best! No one else compares to Mark!........ 👍

Thank you.
GRAZIE FANTASTICO ❤❤❤❤❤
😊😊😊😊
Thanks. 👍
The Greatest band of the 80's by a million miles
Uhhhhh, NOOOO WAY.
@m118lr2 who would you say made better music than Talk Talk..?? Obviously it's all about opinions
I would say of all time
I have to agree, amazing band.
Im not arguing with that ! Talk Talk & XTC released great albums in the 80s.
Surprisingly good after all this time. Their music has a timeless quality. Great vocalist.
Good God! That's incredible! I've heard and seen various live video of Talk Talk performances, this is my favorite one. Very hard to find.
This is wonderful. So glad it popped up on my feed this evening. Love to all who read this and those who haven't.
Great music, ageless, and wonderful musicians! I loved this music then, and today I love and appreciate it even more ❤❤❤❤❤
Excellent concert. Wish I could go back in time and be there.
Mark Hollis made by God to get through the stress of this life .A unique and soothing voice with profound music and lyrics
Talk Talk had such a influence on so many musicians and groups. Still one of my favourite groups after all these years.
Absolutely stunning that you shared this one- Mark Hollis creative spirit and so remembered and he wrote a song for my birth day April 5🤣🤣
Wow - such a beautiful comment. Merci.
Touchée par votre joli message ! Émouvant et un peu nostalgique.
Tout pareil. Merci. Il y a des voix qui manquent... Mark, Alain, Jeff... ça fait du bien de les retrouver :)
Wow! This guy was a great singer! If you sound great live before auto tuners then you were the real deal!
It's not underrated
Not underrated. Such a naff thing to say about a band signed to two major labels. EMI and Parlophone
If God could grant me one wish, it would be to be able to sing like you Mr Hollis. You will always be missed. God bless you Mark.
@@_wilfulness4386 Alright Dad, you ain't been the same since, the head injury.
I am always there for you.
Meals on wheels are around soon. Your fav Liver with onions..
Brings me back when i was young...timeless,Epic,so far ahead...makes me cry ....of joy and sadness ..rip
Just utterly superb. Talk Talk are one of the finest live acts I've heard 😮
Completely agree! I was able to see some of the bands from that time, it would have been another highlight in my life to have seen them.
thanks for the upload! 🙏🏼
What a band. Nothing more to say. Brilliant.
i was 15 that time, and God Thanks TALK TALK had been invented, with my young age i had figured that listening them on my SONY SPORT/ VOL 10 side A side B, the exceptional time i was living , almost 40 years passed and i discover this live.
You are sooooooo lucky..... can you remember the exact date?
I was there as well ,May 8th 1986 ,37 years ago and still one of the best live acts I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot , Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Paul Rodgers and Phil Lynott to name a few.
Did you have goosebumps?😮
The sheer energy coursing through Mark as he’s singing. Amazing musicians the whole band. They were a combined creative force.
The one band I followed before they even made it. I can still hear them singing Talk Talk in 1981 at the same venue. They simply captured my musical and emotional senses.
Vc sabe o que é bom ❤
Paul Webb is one of my favorite bassist all-time ... and I have very high standards.
Obrigado!
Damn, how did I not know this band was so much more than its my life
Enjoy 😊
No doubt in my mind Mark Hollis is a musical genius.. All backed by great musicians of course.
Mark Hollis was pure genius shame the music industry ridiculed and underrated shame on them, they missed a master of his trade 😢😢❤❤ r i p Mark Hollis
En vivo eran espectaculares.
If Talk Talk doesn't deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE DOES !!!!! THEY WERE BETTER THAN MOST IF NOT ALL THE PEOPLE THAT ARE!
Spirit of Eden is my number one album of all time. Thanks for sharing this gem! You made the world a little better.
Pure art! Sensible and touching all the heart and soul chords. Mark come back!!! 😢
I was very fortunate to see this tour at Birmingham odeon best live performances of any live band I’ve ever seen so grateful for seeing them.
I was a wee 16-year-old kiddo in '86 and hadn't even heard of them yet. It wouldn't be for another year or two that I would learn of this amazing band. I could listen to them all day long. I'm so grateful to have their music to listen to.
You really missed something.... How was it possible??? My life was full of them and am still in love with Mark, much more than with 16 those days...🥰 The most beautiful soul love of my life
I was 6, but luckily for me my parents loved them, so I got to love them too 😊
I was lucky enough to see them on this tour in 1986 at Redcar Coatham Bowl, of all places. To this day, the greatest gig I ever went to. They were just very special!
